The best restaurants in England

We had booked in back in September when Steve and Sandie owned the restaurant who were great hosts bu as since had new owners, they decided to call two days prior to the evening to take a deposit. Upon arrival we seated immediately and ordered drinks, we then ordered food and the waitress wrote everything down as we requested then when the food was bought to the table there was parts of the order missing or were different to what we ordered, the waitress made a stroppy comment when I said they had missed something on my food order. Waiters looked like they had just come from making take away deliveries. Nobody ever to table to make sure that everything was OK. We were never asked whether we wished to extras after the meal, they just cleared the table and then bought the bill although we didn't request and then a few minutes later the card machine was bought aand were asked to pay. They obviously wanted us gone although it was only 10.15. Food was OK but the dining experience for 9 people was very disappointing, so we won't be dining there as regular as we did when Steve and Sandie owned the restaurant.

I can’t even explain how awful my experience was. Like someone else previously leaving a review, if I could give 0 I would. Let’s start with timings, it took 2 hours for my food to arrive despite ordering before 6pm on a Saturday. I’m vegetarian and my mixed veg curry basically consisted of peas and sauce - not to mention it was the blandest thing I’ve ever tried. The naan bread was about an inch thick and was too doughy. Would never order from here again.

Looking for non pretentious eatery in Leeds on a weekend break. Walked past this restaurant on way into town from our hotel. Was early evening so quiet. No booking required. Very friendly front of house man. Food was so nice here , would definetly recommend this place to anyone looking for an Italian meal.

Endroit très simple et très beau. Ce n'est pas très grand, le restaurant peut une vingtaine de personnes maximum. C'est très cocooning, on s'y sent très bien. Accueil plus que parfait, toujours souriant et les serveuses se débrouillent dans toutes les langues, et alors la cuisine, juste excellente, vraiment à tomber par terre. Nous avons pris des grillades, ribs et mix grill, tout était délicieux sachant que je suis très difficile pour manger.Je recommande ce restaurant à 1000% pour un prix très très correct.

i’m so so sad this place has closed, me and my boyfriend had such a good meal here, everyone was friendly and the girl who made my sangria knew what she was doing having lived in portugal previously.

Honestly the best night ever last night there was a singer that kept the atmosphere up and the staff were amazing it was packed out but honestly one of the best nights out not if your looking for a quiet night but defo the atmosphere has fantastic Very much recommend this place and the waiter didn’t get his name so so good Food was great and staff on point ☺️

Excellent Christmas eve meal. The staff were so attentive, the food was delicious for all 9 of us. Brilliant experience, we will certainly go again. Thank you to all the Ruan Orchid ladies.

Friendly, popular local pub in Hayfield village. Well kept ales in the pub and good walking nearby.

The food was excellent and very good value for money.The staff are first class

A party of 12 of us went to the C&P for our usual Christmas Lunch. On arrival we were given a warm welcome by Barbara and enjoyed some pre-lunch drinks by the fire in a very Christmasy atmosphere; I can thoroughly recommend the mulled wine to warm you up which was most ably dispensed by Ellie. We then went through into the restaurant and had a most enjoyable lunch. I can especially recommend the salmon starter which was delicious, and at the other end of the meal, the succulent Xmas Pud was delightful. If you want to have a very good meal during the festive season or indeed any other time, I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending the Crown and Punchbowl. We will certainly return soon and have already booked our Christmas Lunch for next year. Many thanks.

We booked this venue for our allotment annul dinner. Sixteen of us sat down to a meal that was faultless, served at the time agreed, the quality of each dish was excellent. The meats served in the main dishes was cooked to perfection, being allotmentiers we are a picky bunch about our vegetables, but again all served to perfection. The waiting staff were on the ball making sure we all had what we pre-ordered along with Martin, the landlord, checking that we were all happy. A first rate evening Martin from the food, to your staff, and the surroundings. Thank you from us all!!

What a fantastic atmosphere. Always wary of places to go when dining solo. A warm and friendly welcome. Ordered hot chocolate and toast. Hot chocolate was gorgeous. The toast was fab lightly toasted and thick slices. Much better than other places medium slice. I will be visiting here again while hubby and dog are on a walk.

As usual great food, tasty and delicious. They even helped amend a dish for my daughter who has a severe dairy allergy first time she has been able to try an Indian of her own! Would recommend to anyone, thanks guys for the wonderful meal
