Delicious Sunday roast and a warm welcome in this very pleasant pub.

Superb food for 7 of us. Everything was spot on Will be back that's for sure

I went a while back with my partner as our local had an event on so we had to go somewhere else. I ordered what I thought was the G&T deal but paid full price. Turns out that the "house" gin is just Gordon's and we weren't told that it wasn't included in the deal because of this. We went back to the bar when we realised and the lady said that the person who served us was new so she didn't think to tell us. We asked if they would be able to do anything as we had asked for the deal and they refused to do anything or refund the difference. The pub itself was nice and tasteful and seems quite nice but I wouldn't go back there because of this experience and because there are many other pubs in town which are much the same but charge you less. Overall it is a nice place but they charge too much and don't seem to put these profits into training their staff.

The Monday night pub quiz is such fun and we would often go early to have dinner beforehand since the food was so delicious.

Well the first thing I have to say is that you get a very warm welcome upon arrival and the staff are top notch. The food is lovely and the breakfast included in the package was cooked fresh and to perfection. The only issue with our stay was the noise from the street and from an adjacent room. We stayed in room 4 which is located above the main road. The room was very clean and the bed super comfy.

First time for food...not disappointed! Outstanding Sunday roast cooked to perfection, dessert was divine and service just fabulous 👌 will be back most definitely 😋

We stayed here for two nights in May. The hotel is less than a minute walk to the Walmgate Bar of the York city wall, then about a 10-15 minute walk to the city center. Our room was very large and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and filling. While we were there they were renovating some of the hotel. It does need a little updating. However, it was very clean and comfortable. Our room was on the front of the hotel so during the evening the road was busy and loud in the room. By late evening it had quieted down. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. They have a car park with free parking which is a great added bonus if you are driving. We would definitely stay here again.

The pies here are amazing. The pub itself is a lovely traditional pub nicely decorated. Good selection of beers and a friendly service.

I was recommended to visit this pub with my mum while we was on holiday in York. I want to say that the staff are absolutely fantastic. They're very pleasant. They are knowledgeable about the area and the food as well is superb. We actually ate here twice because it was that good and everything is made fresh to order so you can expect to be waiting a little bit but if you want good food, you're happy to wait a bit longer for it, the pies are fantastic. If you do have an allergy this pub will cater to you and find something that you can eat. I had the shepherds pie and the chef topped it with a pie top rather than mashed potato because the mashed potato contained my allergy absolutely fantastic so yeah, do you look at the pies? I would say one issue is the drink prices two double vodka and lemonade for £23.90 so yes that's £11.95 each I think that is excessive. But overall, I highly recommend this pub I think you will have a fantastic meal here.

Not the best pub in York but definitely not bad either, decent pints at a fairly reasonable price point (not as much as tourist bars). Staff very helpful and friendly and beer garden is nice although slightly bare due to being in a carpark. Pub quiz is always fun as well.

" Best pies in York " Absolutely I can now add to that "Best Sunday roast in York" My family always call at the Rose & Crown when visiting York and are always impressed by the superb food , excellent selection of real ales/ drinks etc and brilliant staff. Today's visit was tremendous. Tender roast beef, well cooked veg and superb Yorkshire puddings. We couldn't fault it. Also, today's selection of ales included local examples aswell as some from other southern breweries. The friendly staff ensured that it was another memorable visit. Thank you.

Stayed here for a short break in York and absolutely can’t fault it. Room was lovely, breakfast was great, staff too, and location was an 15 minute walk from the city centre. Excellent pies and beers too, and the whisky selection was the cherry on top.

Had a fantastic Sunday Roast. Beef was tender and service amazing, Good food. Great atmosphere and value. Great place to eat out.

I loved it me and my family came for a night, the service is amazing it’s right next to the York wall and the museum’s are like 10 minutes away,I do recommend. Koby age 9

My husband and I had a two night break in York. We booked the Rose and Crown as we thought a 17th Century pub in York would be something different. It was wonderful - such a great welcome from staff when we arrived. Our bedroom and en-suite were spotless and tastefully furnished. Coffee, Teas, Hot Chocolate and biscuits were available in our room. The bathroom had really nice shower products. We booked a table for dinner for the first night. The dining room was so quaint and Welcoming. We had a corner table with plenty of room around, The staff and the food were amazing! The selection of pies on the menu were great - we had a vegetarian coconut and root veggie pie - so tasty!! We cancelled our reservation at an Italian for the next evening and had another wonderful meal at the Rose and Crown. Breakfast was great, with a wide variety of choices on the menu. Christopher the Manager was so friendly and helpful. I thoroughly recommend the Rose and Crown. It was also minutes away from the city walls to walk into York. We will definitely return for another wee break!!

Very nice food here. I had a ham, black pudding and leek pie, with chips and peas. Friendly service, just a wee bit slow serving the food - it was a Sunday so may just have been a bit busy. Otherwise, very nice and would recommend.

Booked a meal for the family. Four of us. I've been once before with some friends, second time like the first absolutely lovely. Just great pub food. Great service. Yum Yum all day long. I would of never thought about it, until someone said have you tried the Rose & Crown...glad we did.

Must've walked past this place loads of times went in for the first time. Beer was good, whisky choice was out of this world. Enjoyed myself.

Delicious Sunday Roast. Friendly & attentive staff.

I often think this place doesn't look much from the outside but inside it is lovely! Always beautifully clean and on a sunny day it is so bright and gorgeous and always feel so warm and welcoming. The food is second to none too. Wonderful roasts on Sunday AND you can supersize them to have extra meat and roasties too. Amazing! We also sometimes for lunch and the pies and sloppy Joe sandwich are a favourite of mine. Defintely recommend.

Would highly recommend for really tasty pies - they were delicious! A little off the beaten track but well worth the short walk. So good!

Requiring our tea before the concert at the Barbican, we chose the Rose & Crown, based upon location and its reputation for excellent pies. We were NOT disappointed!!! Having booked a table the evening before, we were given a lovely, large table in the bay window at the rear looking over the beer garden, with loads of space. The fact that they have an on-site car park was an unexpected bonus. The order of pies and their own GIANT "Rose & Crown" chips, with mushy peas was well presented and served by attentive staff. The pies were as good, if not better than expected and consumed with vigour, all washed down with fine hand pulled real ale. WHAT NOT TO LIKE. Would definitely recommend and will return in the future. Check it out!

Visited our son at university for the day and booked for Sunday lunch based on great reviews. The food was delicious, excellent quality and nicely presented. Staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. Between us we had roast chicken, steak pie and gammon and all were delicious and very reasonably priced. We will definitely return!

We enjoyed a fantastic Sunday roast dinner in this warm and cozy setting with excellent, very friendly staff. Wonderful Yorkshire puddings and good old fashioned, delicious, desserts. The only thing that could have been better was if they served roast leg of lamb, which is our favorite for Sunday dinners, but waa very hard to find in York.

Quite possibly the best pub food I have ever had. Home cooked and extremely tasty. Had the lunch offer of 2 courses for £9.95. The main was a smaller version of a main meal and admittedly it was a little smaller than I was expecting. But oh my it really didn't matter, it was a taste sensation and the pie was packed full of meat. We left feeling very satisfied and won't hesitate to return x

Had an amazing 3 nights at this great pub/hotel. Close to town centre. Breakfast are delicious and the meals we had were spot on. The £9.99 2 course meals before 4pm Tuesday to Saturday were a great value. Host Simon very helpful and informative. We'll be back soon!

We came on Tuesday and Wednesday night Both nights we were serve by the same girl . I can’t remember her name . Both girls who worked on the bar and waitressing was lovely and very charming . They made us so welcome . They was both very friendly and very professional. The food was great and very nice . Everything is freshly cooked to order . It takes about 25 min when we came in the Wednesday the girl who was waitressing told us we were more than welcome to sit down and told us the kitchen was busy so it will be a wait . All restaurant was full . She took our drink order and told us she will come back to take a food order On the second night we came we waited a bit longer because it was very busy which was perfectly fine as we were made aware before we gave our order Next time we will come back when we visit our daughter as we love this placeWell done to all your staff including to kitchen staff as I think when people leave reviews they will say thank you to bar staff and waiter and waitress but rarely to kitchen staff

We reserved dinner here for our group to experience pub/Yorkshire food. It is right outside wall. Had it not been for poor experience with overall service I may have rated higher. We entered and said we had reservations. We were pointed in general direction of table - no welcome or smile. Ok. Then as we are seated, our waitress was the most unfriendly person encountered on our trip. Spoiled the entire meal. She went on to spill a glass of red wine on one of our party - with little apology. It was very awkward. Sorry we spent our money here with so many options to choose from. The pie crusts were burnt too

We visited York and wanted something other than the usual chains had to offer. So we looked on TripAdvisor and found this little gem. It was a ten minute walk fro the centre of York. A lovely pub with a great beer garden at the rear. The weather was lovely so we sat outside. We ordered three different pies and a chicken burger. All were fabulous! The pies were very good and came with a pot of mushy peas, thick hand cut chips and lots of gravy. The burger was very tasty and came with fries and coleslaw. The staff were lovely and it was reasonably priced too. We will definitely visit again!!

The Rose and Crown is a lovely pub. Great selection of drinks (beers, ciders, gins etc). The interior is cozy and old fashioned in a lovely way. Nice garden in the back. We really enjoyed the food as well! Will be back!

No se pudo registrar en nuestro apartamento hasta las 3 pm, así que decidí ir a buscar un almuerzo tardío. Encontré este pub a la vuelta de la esquina de los apartamentos, así que fui a probar. Pedimos una butty de pescado y un lado de patatas fritas. Los dedos de pescado eran abultados abadejos en la masa, con mucha salsa tártara en un bonito bollo, las papas fritas eran las que morían, las papas fritas macizas salpicadas de sal marina. Absolutamente encantador, se sentó en el jardín de la cerveza en la parte de atrás para comer, como era un hermoso día caluroso. Definitivamente lo recomendaría.

Fabuloso almuerzo ayer en el Rose and Crown, no me decepcionó. Tuve el pastel de bistec / ale con patatas fritas cortadas a mano, guisantes blandos y salsa, mi compañero tenía el corvejón de jamón / pollo y pastel de queso. Somos visitantes regulares a este gran pub. La comida es siempre maravillosa, gracias a su magnífico chef, James. El pollo mediterráneo es mi plato favorito del momento. Solo desearía que este pub estuviera más cerca de nosotros ~ ¡Creo que no necesitaría cocinar! Gracias, Keira, Jonny y tu equipo por hacer que nos sintamos bienvenidos.

Esta fue una visita de regreso a la Rosa y la Corona para permitir a mi amigo la oportunidad de experimentar sus famosos pasteles. Nos detuvimos para tomar una copa de antemano y luego nos llevaron a nuestra mesa en el área de comida más tranquila. Hicimos nuestro pedido de un pastel de carne y un pastel de reparto y nos dijeron que toda la comida se hace fresca a pedido y que tendríamos una espera de 30 minutos; No hay problema. 30 minutos vinieron y se fueron y luego apareció la camarera que tomó nuestro pedido y preguntó si habíamos pedido un pastel de pollo y un pastel de pescado. Dijimos que no y ella se fue. Pasaron otros 15 minutos y aún no hay señales de nuestro pedido. Luego nos dijeron que sería de 5 minutos. Otros 15 minutos pasaron y la comida finalmente apareció. En general, fue tan delicioso como la última vez, pero me sentí decepcionado por el servicio. Entiendo que todo está recién hecho, pero creo que hubiera sido mejor que nos avisáramos sobre la confusión, ya que estábamos esperando más de una hora para nuestra comida.

Such a warm welcome with kind friendly service. The food was spectacular and we can highly recommend.

Called on a rainy Sunday, pub and dining room quite busy but found a table in the dining room. Both had the steak and Guinness pie with thick chips, absolute corker. Table next to us had fish and chips all looked good. Only thing to mention is can be busy and was warned 30min wait. Was with it and came out bang on 30minWill defo be calling back.

After staying here during the summer on a day trip to York to see tee ice carvings call in for ounce, The food was still as excellent as we remember and the staff equally first class. A true find in York

Lovely pub with lovely food, had the steak and Guinness pie on a Saturday evening and it was divine, the chips are huge !! Enjoyed so much we had our Sunday lunch here too which was also superb. The staff are pleasant and the service quick. We are back in york Christmas 2019 so will definitely be back.

Came with a friend and we had a starter each and i had a steak for mains which was perfectly cooked to my choice and the chips that came with it were amazing! My friend had the crown burger and he was not disappointed! Can not fault the food or service and the place itself. To make it extra special the chef himself (James) came and brought our starters over and also came and asked how our mains were. It was quiet and this was a nice touch to see that he actually has a passion in how the dishes were and if the customers enjoyed them. Thank you for a brilliant visit and i’m sure we will be returning !!

Lamentablemente cometió un error en la fecha de la reserva al Rose and Crown. Inmediatamente me puse en contacto con el hotel directamente para que me dijeran que se debía a Laterooms si pagaría una multa.¡No tan! Según Laterooms, la decisión de cobrar el importe total se redujo al hotel. Consultado esto como hotel lo negó, pero Laterooms son inflexibles! ¿Por qué querrías quedarte en un hotel cuya gerencia está? ¡Se trata de honestidad e integridad!

We visited this place after seeing it on tripadvisor, and very glad we did. Excellent food and service with good portions. The staff were all very attentive and we would recommend to anyone in the area for a great meal.

We ate here on a recent visit to York. The pub had a cosy atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. Food was cooked to order and was delicious- we had steak pie. I will definitely eat here again on our next trip.

Este pub situado en este pequeño pueblo es parte de la cadena, la cervecería Samuel Smiths y paramos aquí para el almuerzo. La bienvenida fue lo suficientemente amable y nos dieron un menú, que no era amplia, pero nos permitió seleccionar una opción bastante fácilmente.
