Balti Mahal in Birmingham

I can’t even explain how awful my experience was. Like someone else previously leaving a review, if I could give 0 I would. Let’s start with timings, it took 2 hours for my food to arrive despite ordering before 6pm on a Saturday. I’m vegetarian and my mixed veg curry basically consisted of peas and sauce - not to mention it was the blandest thing I’ve ever tried. The naan bread was about an inch thick and was too doughy. Would never order from here again.

Been ordering the Lamb Shimla off and on for years - as good as ever and thoroughly recommended

I have only ever ordered from here twice. BOTH TIMES MY ORDER WAS OVER 30 MINUTES LETE. Offer of compensation £ 5.00. You can guess where that IMMEDIATELY WENT. And if you can't THE BIN. Suffice to say I WON'T BE GIVING THEM A THIRD CHANCE.

My new favourite Indian restaurant. Beautiful food. Fast delivery. Value for money.

Ordered food at 6pm. Estimated time was 7.20pm. Then had update to say it was in its way. Finally delivered at 8pm. Food quality was average at best. Wrong order as paid for and ordered more poppadoms than arrived. Then 2 battered ,broken stale ones arrived. Ordered samosas and onion bhaji and they came in paper bags so were cold. Naan bread was rushed as hardly cooked and tasted very doughy. Biriyani and Massala was good

Missed off the additional poppodoms I paid for as only two delivered

Normally always order from here and never have any complaints! We typically go for collection which is a very quick, but we went for delivery this time… big mistake. As it was Father’s Day, we expected a longer wait time than usual but not nearly 45 minutes over the already 1 hour and 30 minutes lead time! We called up to ask where it was and were told it would be another 15 mins and we would be given a voucher for the long wait. When it finally turned up, a very rude man handed it to me and left with no apology what so ever. No voucher in the bag either which is disappointing. The food was great at always but very disappointing that we had to wait so long (didn’t end up eating until around 9 o’clock)!

the starters, rice and nan were lovely my curry wasn’t spicy enough for me. i asked for medium hot and it was more like mild. i’m saying that, the meat on the curry was very tender.

Ordered a take away. Ordering process was easy and curry arrived in reasonable time. The food was very poor. Used to order from years ago and was very very disappointed. Just cubed of chucked in a spicy curry gravy. Cucumber raita was just sliced cucumber with yoghurt poured over. Won't be ordering from here again. Really disappointed with this food as there are far better takeaways in my locality, which I will use in future. Come on Balti Mahal, you need to do better than this.

Not only did we wait 1hour and 50 minutes for it to arrive, the curries were watery and oily...we ended up having to make our own food as we threw it in the bin!! Completely ruined our family meal and the rest of the food was tasteless. Avoid at all costs!

Lovely food and hot when it arrived.

Excellent, hot, and very tasty

All good but the chicken was slightly over cooked as it was a bit hard and dry.

FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE! Forgot the mint sauce and had it delivered straight away. My new favourite curry delivery after going somewhere else for 20 years. Ordered 4 times now and always the same great quality. Fast delivery. Definitely recommend.

Best Bangladeshi takeaway in north Birmingham. Have ordered from them dozens of times, always a 9/10 food quality at least.

Shame, we've been having a meal from them for way over 10 years. Now and again they let us down. Tonight was one of those. Food cold. Definitely not anywhere near 75°c.

Disappointed overall. Used this place forever but tonight the poppadoms were stale, onion Bahji overcooked and hard, naan bread really thin to normal and really doughy in the middle so not cooked through and had to warm up meal in microwave. Very unusual standard for this restaurant.

Food fine as always. Delivery took 2 hours and not even an apology offered. Not looking for any freebies just really dissapointed that you couldnt even extend the courtesy of an apology or even an explanation for delivering food ordered at 7pm at 9.10pm. Called to ask about the order and was at 8.30pm and was told it was on the way, took a further 40 minutes to arrive. Probably the last of many orders.

Very good food. Always end up getting extra onion salad and mint sauce when we order. Popadoms are very good too they are big and crunchy but not hard at all.

Always guaranteed cracking food from Balti Mahal. If you can collect your order, it’s much quicker and you get 10% off the bill. Only fault is home delivery times can be excessive.

Has this place changed ownership lately ? Used balti mahl for years but was dissapointed tonight. Not much meat in the mains and the bag of chips was no more than a quarter full. Hard to fing a quality take away these days.

Dry starters I would say yesterday’s warmed up and balti not nice with stale poppadom

On way home decided I didn't want to cook so ordered and paid on line. Food was ready when advise and fully enjoyed.

The food was nice, but I only had 6 small pieces of chicken and I mean small, in my chicken madras. Is their a chicken shortage or what? Please sort it out, as I wasn't happy, seeing that I paid so much for it. The rest of the food was nice, but seriously stop skimping on the chicken, it hasn't gone up that much in price.

Order often from here but yesterday was a bit disappointed. No egg in the Agra and only 4 small pieces of lamb tikka in the masala.

Chicken was rock hard half a bag of chips couldn't eat it I'm fuming £36 down the drain

Lamb cooked thoroughly. Make sure napkins are placed underneath food packaging as the turmeric stains your worktop.

Been using the Balti for many many years and even though the food was very tasty it was NOT hot at all. I have a food probe and it registered 37.5. Not good. Sorry guys but didnt really enjoy that tonight.

Been eating here since I lived at my parents. Been moved out 10 years. Always good. Never a bad meal or missing item. Spot on everytime. I live a good 4 mile away and they still deliver on time everytime. Only ever order curry from Balti Mahal.

Lovely hot food will order again

I ordered the food for a specific time, and it was accepted for that time by the restaurant, yet it turned up late. When I rang, after the delivery time, I was told it was on its way without any further comment and estimated delivery time.

We ordered a chicken balti and big pot of rice for 30 guests at a party. Food was delivered hot and everyone loved it. Will definitely use again for parties. There was so much food most people had seconds. Dave

Delivery took over 2 hours for 3 mains and 5 poppadoms. Food was nice though but wouldn’t order again as delivery time is too long.

We always have our curry from here. Staff friendly the curry amaizing and its always delivered on time.

Normally this restaurant is very good. But tonight it was awful. Took over a hour for delivery. Lamb starter was just pieces of fat, all 3 bags of chips looked and tasted like they had sat there for an hour waiting for everything else to be cooked. 3 poppadoms ordered - 1 out the 3 was full size, other 2 were about 2/3rds the size - without the smashed bits in the bag. Won't be ordering from here again, £45 spent, £10-£15 worth of food not edible.
