You'll find By The Quayside on Blakeney Quay (on the right hand side of the car park as you go in). This is a must visit. You can eat outside at the tables or get your food to take away. Whilst we were staying at Blakeney, we enjoyed a variety of their delicious food. Sandwiches - Tuna; smoked salmon and dill and horseradish dressing; fresh crab - all served on really fresh bread and generously filled. We also tried the salt and pepper squid, which came with a dip; their own fish finger sandwich (lovely toasted ciabatta roll with just the right amount of dressing; dressed crab; and half a lobster tail. Everything, including the dressed crab and lobster, are made to order. No pre-packaged food here, all served up with a smile and a chat. So, so friendly. One day we were late home and they were packing up, but it wasn't any trouble for them to make up our order. I can't stress how generous the portions were - but even more important was the price. For the quality and freshness, other fish stalls/huts were almost twice the price. Which was the reason we kept returning and urge you to go too. My husband actually heard the owner speaking to another local business person, who was suggesting she should put her prices up (Blakeney is an expensive place); but she was firm in her belief that she wanted it to be affordable for the many visitors that came to the town and was happy with what she was charging. To the lovely ladies that run the stall, thank you so much for being so friendly and accommodating, we're just sorry that we didn't get your names so we could credit you. We wish you continued success.

We visited as a family of four plus our dog and I have to say-for the first time in a long while I truly enjoyed fish this much! The fish and chips were incredibly tasty and freshly cooked to perfection. The place is dog friendly, which was a big plus for us-our pup even got a bowl of water, which was such a thoughtful touch. The whole family had a great time, and we left full and happy. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for quality food and a welcoming atmosphere!

The centric hub for this establishment is “Colin”. Owner, chef, raconteur and all round eccentric English Gentleman. His food is simple, fresh and cooked with flare and Colin’s twist. It was simply superb. My oysters all suffered from clinical obese syndrome and were the plumpest tastiest oysters I’ve ever eaten, not to mention they retained all their liquor in the shells. I had several courses including enormous juicy scallops, monkfish with scallops in lobster bisque and much more not to mention the outstanding home made prune and Armagnac bread and butter pudding with cream….. OMG….heavenly!! This 75 year boy can cook!! The experience of Colin’s company, his food and the overall experience will stay with me and my secretary for ever. Colin is a hugely funny bloke and doesn’t even realize it. Absolutely loved the whole experience and brilliant value for money if you appreciate the best food available In Norfolk!! We laughed all the way on our 3 hour journey home at every thing that happened and the calamities. Hilarious. Our new friend and our new go to restaurant “best restaurant experience “ in Norfolk. If you don’t have a sense of humour, I recommend you stay elsewhere. Colin…. You’re a legend. Thanks Pal. Rule Britannia on this May Day 🏴🏴

We ordered a take away from here on our last night in Swanton Novers - which was about a five minute drive away. The food was hot when we got it home, had good portion sizes and the Penang curry was delicious. The pad Thai was nice, but could have done with some fresh lemon, peanuts and chilli flakes either in the side or over the top. The sizzling beef was lovely, as were the ribs. However, the prawns in blankets were a bit underwhelming and we couldn't find any traces of spicy pork stuffed within. However, we will return next time we're up that way.

The dressed crab was absolutely fresh and mind-blowing. It completely restored my faith in what dressed crab should be. A true seafood gem. I will definitely be returning the next time I am in Cromer.

Been going to the Clifton for over ten years, not staying but dining, drinks etc, spent an absolute fortune, always been friendly and great place, since it’s been took over what a change, we were here last year, only managed to get in once, place was dead, but staff say they only serving residents, now we we spend a few hingmdred pound a time and the place is dead, what’s going on, staff rude , I hope the new owners see this review as we normally here in cromer 6 weeks or more a year, used to eat every day in here but never again will I return, been turned away, rudely too many times, good luck but I bet this place has lost a fortune, keep clear of the place head into cromer, much friendlier now

I have eaten at Upstairs No. 1 quite a few times and the food is very good and reasonably priced. But I have one big gripe. The restaurant acoustics mean that it is very noisy. Small children chattering (and worse) loudly; the sound is amplified. Kitchen noises; amplified; even any quiet background; music; amplified. For me it meant I couldn’t enjoy the meal. it’s not a place to have a conversation. Maybe it’s the bare floor, I don’t know. I would imagine that anyone with a hearing aid or hearing impairment might find it uncomfortable. .

Great little find. If you’re passing by or out for the day. Always very good until this recent visit, items are cooked to order, not a problem but having to wait over 30 mins for fish and chips that were dark & over cooked, not enjoyable. Shame we shall have to find a shop closer to home.
