Beach Rock Fish and Chips in North Norfolk

The best freshly cooked fish and chips I have had for a very long time. Definitely worth a visit but be prepared to wait, it is so worth it though. Very well organised queuing system so you dont get missed. All the staff are really lovely and friendly, even “Little Miss Shouty” calling out the numbers. Please don’t change a thing, it’s just perfect for a traditional fish and chip supper. 10/10

Beach Rock Cafe just always makes my trips to Sea Palling even better! I go there for breakfast most days when I’m there! There is a great variety on the menu -I personally love the Beach Rock Breakfast or the American Pancakes served with delicious fresh fruit & maple syrup! Gail & her staff are so friendly, they welcome dogs & there is a new seating area outside which is lovey if you want to sit in the sun! As a break from the beach I also pop in for their delicious ice cream Sundays & thick milk shakes and they also have ice cream for dogs! They have also this summer taken over the Fish & Chip shop & again the fish & chips are amazing & fresh with lots of different options on the menu!

Me and my wife had the dressed Crab and chips it came with a wedge of lemon,sauce and a small salad it was absolutely lovely service was a bit hectic but we didn't have to wait too long and we ate it on the beach lovely memories are made of this

Thought we would try as last ownership was very poor. No improvement as not sure fish was cod as quite chewy, clearly not fresh and didn't have normal cod consistency. Chip portion very small and not really traditional fish and chip shop chips, more like chips from a greasy spoon cafe. Very disappointed.

Paid £6 for two measly portions of what tasted like last nights, reheated, lukewarm oven chips. Shame ... Sea Palling chips used to be some of the best ☹️

Think is has only just reopened. Had a great piece of fish, very meaty and locally sourced, and a very reasonable price. Staff were great, the young lady that served me treated me as if we'd known each other for years - very personable. Went back later for loaded chips - good portion size and really tasty and filling. Thoroughly recommended.

Very busy on a sunny Friday evening. Good quality food, fish had crispy batter and chips were excellent. Everything was cooked to order. We will be back 👍🏻

Graham, the owner of the chip shop and adjoining cafe, promised me the best cod that I have ever tasted. He was indeed correct ; the fish was absolutely excellent. Will be back!

Stopped here for fish, chips and mushy peas. Lovely bit of fish and the chips were fresh with really good crispy bits. Sat outside due to covid restrictions. They took orders at one door and served at another door. Really tasty. Would go back and would recommend.

Considering the social distancing measures (15/09/20) in place the employees of this take away excelled with fast service - freshly prepared food nice and hot with super crispy light batter ---------- the taste was absolutely perfect.Being keenly priced - what more could you ask for ?Looking forward to my next visit very soon.

No social distancing, nobody serving wearing a mask, long wait with little organisation outside in terms of where to order/collect. Sharing of ketchup and vinegar bottles and the food was not great, pale soggy tasteless chips and bland fish cakes.

I live 5 minutes from this shop & the food we had was really good. Tasted fresh, sausage batter was crispy, good chips, not at all greasy. Very happy. Will be going again. Lucky to have this on our doorstep!

Came in and ordered as 2 separate families. One order came out in reasonable time and the next on came out at least half an hour later. When we enquired we were met with a young very arrogant "chef" who wanted to know if we want our money back. When I told him my food is cold I was told to stick it in the microwave!! The ladies behind the till were friendly and helpful at least but they won't see us again!

Had 2 families order at the same time. 1 order was completed and waited 45 minutes for the other one. They very aggressively told us to put our cold food in the microwave. Chips was terrible and old, cooked in old oil. Fish wasn't great either. Sausages were soggy. Stay away! Find another take away. Don't waste your money or time with these guys

Only went in for a large chips - more like a small, pale, manky and gluey chips, came out as a lump.

Saturday 28th December and we had to queue and glad we did. We found a table and sat down with our dogs and waited for our Freshly cooked fish and chips both piping hot and with a cup of proper coffee.

We stopped here on the way back from Horsey Gap to Eccles, as there didn't seem to be much else nearby that was open, so we had low expectations. The place looked clean, with indoor and outdoor seating. We had medium fish and chips with mushy peas. The fish was a decent size, with very light, crisp, non-greasy batter that stayed attached to the fish. The chips were unusual, as they were a little thinner than the usual chippy type, but appeared to be hand-cut. They were light in colour, but crispy and properly cooked. Both the fish and chips were delicious and some of the best I've ever eaten. We tried other chippys around Norfolk that got rave reviews, but were less impressive. This place deserves some recognition.

My husband asked in the cafe if the chips were GF. There seemed to be some confusion and the young chap eventually said yes. My husband quizzed further and the cafe said the chips were cooked in a separate fryer. So my husband bought a bag and I tried 4-5 chips and let me put it this way, in a very short space of time I was ill. To say the chips were your stereotypical version of chips would be a joke. The chips were small & probably slightly thicker than french fries and very, very pale. Perhaps the chip shops decision to move to new potatoes had something to do with this.

This chippie is part of three shops in one - there's a café and a beach-surfing shop, all of which seem to be part of the same business. Dog-friendly, too. The chippie staff were friendly, the fish was good (lightly battered) and the chips were lightly done too, but there was nothing wrong with that. Friendly people behind the counter.

We visited today as a family. Looking forward to our chips on the beach, we joined an extremely lengthy queue. That’s not a problem, they must be good!! Well, no! They are far from good. The chips were dry, pale, cold, stuck together and tasted of chip fat, with some strange crunchy texture over them. I have never picked a chip up to find the rest of the portion come with it. I don’t feel that the chips are cooked fresh. They must be cooked in such big batches to handle the queue all day that it is lacking in quality in, flavour, presentation and fulfillingness. We won’t return to the chip shop. Such a shame

Just awful, chips were like frozen microwave chips but fried. Fish wasn’t great either. Smothered them in curry sauce which made them edible 😆

I’m a clean freak so won’t go anywhere unhygienic! The best part is the service, always laughing a joking and make anyone feel welcome. Recommended!! Cod is the best you’ll ever have!

Had a great day out, lovely beach and finished off with great fish and chips served by lovely friendly lady, nice place with cheery atmosphere, would recommend.

I am a big fan of fish and chips and despite it being a very busy season the staff dealt well with the pressure. I am shocked to see some of the other reviews on this page, as my chips were perfect and much cheaper than Kent, it was lovely.

Visit here regularly for fish and chips on the beach, lovely and fresh, helpful staff. Can get very busy in the summer holidays so you do have to wait but definitely worth it. If your visiting the area definitely worth a trip ☺️☺️

Visited here last week, very nice fresh fish and chips. Seating available inside and outside, they also have a cafe next door.

Sent my son in for two large chips 35mins later I went in to ask why he had not been served when many others had come and gone I was then abused by the owner who ranted at me whilst chugging a pint telling me I should have told him. When we finally got the chips they were under cooked and soggy they fat was dirty so tasted rank. Dirty premises . And to top it off they had drum and bass playing with swearing in it. Drunk man dirty restaurant and crap food will never go again don't bother stopping here

Absolutely disgusting behaviour the lads were drunk whilst serving/ swearing really not good when got children in there chips were undercooked and very oily waited over half hour for 2 large chips to be even more disappointed when in camp to eat them will not be visiting again. Very bad customer service disappointed ☹️

We decided to go for a last minute walk along the beach and headed to the wonderful sea palling having visited many times we know we love it . As it was last minute we decided that for a change we would have chips instead of picnic. The walk and the beach was great as always . All looking forward to nice fish and chips, my how we were disappointed. Firstly the place its self is a mess . Full bins everywhere rubbish on tables inside and out . We ordered our food . Cod and chips twice and sausage and chips . About as basic order as possible. Price seemed a little high but ok it's at the seaside. Given an order number 8 along from the one just called out again that's cool . It's a chip shop we will fly through right !? Wrong , my oh my were we wrong . 40 minutes later not 4 or 14 but 40 minutes !!! What a joke we actually had to buy more time in the car park. When the food came the chips were pale and anemic and the fish ? Well If you like batter you'll be fine . I've seen more cod on a fish finger .

We were very surprised as the restaurant/cafe did not look too inspiring, but very basic but the Fish and Chips were a revelation. Excellent comes to mind, perfect crispy batter, fresh fish (that smelled very good) and the chips are spot on. Don't be put off by the décor as F&C;'s is just the ticket and our children were suitably satisfied too. A bit more air con would help though in the heatwave.

Visited one evening for fish and chips, the place was dirty with trodden in chips all over the follow and dirty tables and chairs. The food was pretty terrible too and mostly ended up in the bin.

Just average considering it's right next to the sea ! Could do better with customer service .may even been frozen cod

We had a sandwich and cold drink instead of fish and chips. They were freshly made and filled well with each of our choices. Great little stop off whilst walking the coastal path.

The all day breakfast was not all day. We arrived in the afternoon to be told I could only have a sandwich or panini. I was made to feel a bit of a nuisance and then realised why when they started stacking the tables and chairs away as soon as i was served. However my husband had fish and chips from next door (same place it would seem) and enjoyed it. Average for cafe. Good for chippy.

Having visited beach rock for breakfast, after a wonderful walk on sea palling beach, my husband and I were disappointed from the moment we arrived!

Friendly service lovely freshly cooked food hence the wait as cooked to order which I prefer good value for money and sea palling beach is beautiful definitely recommend

Arrived a few minutes before they had planned to close and the staff obviously just wanted to go home. To say they were blunt would be an understatement and after years of visiting this establishment I will not be returning and will find somewhere else along the coast to take my ad-hoc drives for chips.

The cafe is next to the fish and chip shop and part of the same building. If you like the greasy spoon style then this is the place for you. I had a sausage and egg baguette with a side of chips, portion size folks, it was huge, very nice and extremely filling, can't speak for the fish and chip shop but the cafe was busy.

My Son found a hair in his tray of chips, when I took them back to tell the assistant who served us she took them off me and said do you want some more when I replied no my sons put off eating them now she replied oh well these things happen sometimes and walked away. I was discusted by her rudeness.

Having opened Tripadvisor to write my (unfavourable) review, I realised that my experience was very similar to Emily W of London (see below).

We placed an order and a whole 30 minutes later they were calling out order numbers but seemed to miss ours off. They had forgot our order.

Friendly people & the food was freshly cooked when we ordered. We did not eat in the premises as we took them back with us. Good size proportions but the batter on the fish was very soggy & stuck to the paper. Fishcakes were nice, chips were ok. We did go about 6.30pm one evening & it was already closed!

Had to wait 20 minutes for x4 sausage and chips... and when we got it, it was all luke warm. Fried food should be hot! Long wait for rubbish food.

We arrived not long before they were due to close. The couple were friendly and hospitable, they made all our food fresh to order, when we added to the order it still all arrived at the same time. Chips could a little but more chunky but was all gobbled up and even though they were closing they let us eat in. Advise!!

Was so looking forward to a chippy dinner but was left so disappointed by the food, a very small section to choose from, chips were very pale and the fish was soggy and I done to believe the cod was actually cod!!! and the open times are very strange as well for a seaside place the chippy is only open 3 nights a week and only for 3 hrs!!!! If you want something to eat go to the cafe next to the arcade you get a much better welcome and descent food!!!!

I would like to say i have no idea how good the food is in the restaurant as we planned on having Fish and chips for 5 on our last night Thursday the 21st. As the opening times on the door said 4-7pm on Thursdays, my wife and son walked up from our cottage to arrive at 5.45pm to be told by the young man serving sorry we are not open we closed at 6.00pm my mum made a mistake with the opening times. As it was not even 6.00pm how could he have closed at 6.00pm he just could not be bothered to serve us and wanted to leave early. This is one the worst customer service experiences i have ever had and will never be going there again.

Stopped here for lunch. Service was efficient, but not especially friendly. You can eat in or outside (more like a car park than a dining experience) or take-away. We both had fish (no haddock, they only seem to do cod) and chips (there was a sign apologising for new potatoes). Chips were soggy. Fish was cooked fresh and perfectly done (except the batter was extremely pale). Problem was the fish was extremely greasy and the fat tasted very stongly (not stale but different to any other fish & chip shop taste I've ever come across); fish itself was fairly tastelss. We did take away, and found there was no bin for rubbish near the shop or car park - eventually found across the road behing the bus stop.

Only went in for 4 portions of chips but they were very good and the shop very organized so fair on everybody x

Good great - traditional fish and chip fare, generous servings. Seating inside and out. Dogs also welcome on lead and bowls of water outside a nice touch when coming off the beach.

£2.50 for a glass of warm flavored milk claiming to be a milkshake, over priced and average food at best. Certainly won't be going back again.

Found this little gem while out on a day trip around Norfolk coast with friends. Had been looking out for somewhere to stop without much luck, Went down the coast road and found this little collection of shops.You have to pay for parking, but we'll worth it. The couple in fish and chip shop were very accommodating. Was cooked fresh to order, the best I have had in a long time. No skin, batter very light and the chips were lovely.Well worth a visit. Eat in or a very short stroll to a lovely beach.

Nice fish n chips... in fact, very nice fish..... and good selection of your usual chippy menu. All cooked to order so expect a short wait (may be longer if busy) but it's worth it as tastes so much better than if it is taken from the hot shelf. You can eat on the premises too (inside or out) which is handy.

I came here with my grandparents earlier on in the week with two dogs. A gentleman gave the dogs a jumbo sausage to share for free and my G'rents and I had a really good meal each. Only live down the road but had never been in, glad I did and will definitely go back.

While waiting patiently in line on Saturday near to but not at closing time(7pm)the owner came up to the people at the back of the line and rudely announced "i'am actually trying to close"we were almost pushed out of the shop,but to be honest the look of the chips coming out had the impression that they were rushing the final orders anyway as the chips didn't look like they had been in the fryer very long at all.all in all very poor.

Good fish nicely battered (a light and crispy batter) with a more than generous portion of chips (I ordered 'medium' size). Friendly service amidst basic decor. Good value for money.

Visited just after Christmas. Was really looking forward to chips by the sea. Very disappointed. Chips were white and very undercooked. Had a sausage in batter but batter was hardly cooked and just tasted of flour! Would not go back

A cold visit but hot food on a winters night in Sea Palling. Not bad at all, shame the coffee shop was closed next door, would have been good alongside our meal. Fairly quite but was a little early and there were plenty of people about. Curry sauce very good so all in all good fish and chops. Very young servers but friendly.

Height of the summer season and the close at 7:00pm, 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Don't let the closing time fool you though, as they stop taking orders 20 minutes before closing time. So second time in a week we missed out, last week due to not knowing they closed so early, this week because they don't take orders while they're still open. Can't comment on their food, as we weren't able to buy any despite being open. But all is not lost!Drive back to Stalham, there's a wonderful little family run, very friendly, very generous chippy that cooks fresh, chips were perfect, almost as good as my award winning local back home. Buy your chips there then head back to the beach or find a nice spot along the Norfolk Broads.

being a regular almost part time native to sea palling the beach rock chippy has had its fair share of owners over the years the current owners have "nailed"it the fish is literaly fresh from the sea cooked to perfection skin off boneless chunky flakes in a crisp batter ,the chips are always fresh fried tasty good portions all backed up by a friendly staff and certainly value for money.

I had fish and chips which was nice my children had sausage in batter, they we're OK by the sausages were not the best quality but I don't expect that at a fish and chip shop.What I would say is that the meals were all cooked fresh and we sat in and are them at the inside seating area, it is small but there's also seating outside. The queues can get long as there isn't much else around the small area. Nice for a quick bite to eat.

Grabbed some fish and chips here before heading to the beach although you can sit inside if the weather is not in your favour. It was not the crispest batter, indeed it was a bit soggy on the bottom, but the fish was nicely cooked inside and the chips were OK. £4 for fish, £1.80 for chips.

This chip shop was spotless inside. The staff were very helpful . The fish and chips were perfect. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff. Would definitely recommend a visit.

We arrived on a Saturday and decided to have a drink and then get fish and chips so the orders were taken from our families and two people asked for pies. Went to the Beach Fish and Chip Sop and was told we don't sell pies as we have cut down our menu. So it was decided that they would get fish and chips. Because the order was large it took some to so we went for a drink whilst our food was being prepared. Everything was cooked from scratch and everyone was over the moon with their food it was absolutely delicious. I would recommend this fish and chip shop any time.

We visited this fish and chip shop over the Easter weekend, the lady serving was so kind, we sat inside to eat, she arranged Coffee's from the coffee shop adjacent. nothing was too much trouble. The chips we are were very good. Will certainly visit again when we are next in Sea Palling.

I asked what kind of fish was being served to be told "it's just fish". This meant miniscule but pricey portions of rancid inedible greyness and cheap frozen chips cooked in stale oil. Having unwrapped our parcels of disappointment some way along the beach we were unable to complain as the place was closed on our return. Unforgivable!

Stopped off here for lunch. The fish was so fresh you could imagine it had been swimming around in the morning! Chips were lovely and the meal was very reasonably priced.

Plenty of seats in chip shop cafe But pricey and think they use frozen beef chips portions not very big either.... I would rather travel to stalham or Walcott for fish and chips than use the rock cafe ever again

I visited the place with my family today i asked for one an a half small portion of chips lady on the counter was surprised and look like she don't know what im about. But the food was good chips nice not oily and the scampi where delicious. The only down was i did see that staff eat behind the counter what is really not acceptable.

We visited here on a very hot Wednesday evening. Unfortunately this was the first time they had opened on a Wednesday and they had run out of fish. However, we did enjoy very well cooked scampi and chips. It's so nice that you can seat outside in the evening or even wander down to the beach to have your meal. Would certainly visit again, this time to have fish.

Well cooked and prepared chips. Fish is delicious but unclear as to what sort is it. Sausages aren't always battered so make sure you ask.However do not ask for Scampi. Man operating the fryers will do his nut. Some very unhappy staff too. Feel for them.Scampi when cooked is pretty good btw.Have fun asking for scampi when you pop in!

We went to this fish and chip shop last week. We were aiming to get a takeaway and head off to the beach to eat it. Unfortunately it was raining which gave us a dilemma as we had our dogs with us. We were just about to tie them up outside the shop and go inside to get our food when the lady running the shop came out and told us we could bring them inside! How good is that! So we were able to enjoy fabulous fish and chips in the dry and have our dogs safely with us. So many places in this part of the world are welcoming to dogs. It is so good to not feel like a second class citizen just because we have a furry companions with us.

A good sign of top fish and chips is if you feel good after you've eaten them, not greasy horrible and bloated. At the Beach Rock Fish and Chips the batter is light and crispy, and the cod fresh, light and tasty. The chips are pretty good too. I ate the lot and so did the rest of the clan. Not a scrap wasted. Nothing for the seagulls. Yum. We'd definitely come back.

Lovely fresh fish and chips eaten on the beach. What more can I say!! very nice and will be returning.
