Bure River Cottage Restaurant in North Norfolk

This was our 3rd visit and every time I have come away thinking how great it is. Very lovely staff front of house who do the owners credit. Menu was seasonal, varied and tasty. Food and drink reasonably priced for the standard. Chefs always on point here.

We had an outstanding meal here and loved it.It’s not cheap but you get what you pay for and everything was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour. The home made bread was delicious.We had baked crab and scallops followed by swordfish steaks.The flavours were incredible and it was the nicest meal we have had in a long time. The waiting staff were also lovely and friendly. Would highly recommend this place just at the start of the village in Horning. Go and treat yourself.

This is a very unpretentious restaurant. It sells only fish. Though small, they sensibly book the tables so that the chef can cope with all the meals and the meal is unhurried yet not waiting for too long. The place is spotless. The staff are very friendly and efficient. They have fish and shellfish to suit all tastes. Every dish we had was excellent. Fish cooked to perfection. The vegetables were also delicious. The only non fish on the menu were the desserts. Equally good. We enjoyed ourselves so much on our first visit we managed to squeeze in a second. The scallops were divine and they left on the corals. Very few restaurants do that. Be warned, portions are large so go hungry.

An exceptional fish restaurant in pretty village of Horning, Norfolk. The whole evening was delightful and the food was delicious. Beautifully cooked fish served tastefully. Thank you for a really great meal. We will be back soon. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Very nice restaurant on entering, so whilst perusing the menu we were given one very small piece of bread with a triangle of butter between us? Really ? I would have expected artesian bread or rolls for a restaurant of this quality. Starters was delicious, I had scallops which were cooked to perfection, My main was cod with crab , the cod was superb, but think it ate the crab, to accompany this we were served 5 new potatoes and a small amount of vegetables and most disappointing frozen chips! Really , to share between 3 of us. It was so confusing it’s like high end fish dishes meet low end veg and so disappointing. Dessert again was delicious, I had the chocolate pot and couldn’t fault it. On reflection I left very disappointed and confused as we were so looking forward to eating here.

3 of us went for a meal today at 5.30pm. Very excited and looking forward as we had heard good reviews. The food was delicious but disappointingly we had 3 pieces of fried bread nothing special and the smallest triangle of butter between 3. I was shocked as I thought there might have been a selection of breads or rolls or olives etc. We had our mains Lobster, whole seabass and cod and crab. All very nice but the veg was abit woeful, two tiny pots between 3 and a tiny pot of new potatoes and a tiny pot of what seemed frozen chips , I hope I’m wrong on that!!!. Desserts had the cheesecake, chic pot and brownie very nice. 2 glasses of Merlot, 1 Prosecco and a cider and a jug of water £184. Sorry not worth the money I’m afraid. Would I go again not at that price but glad I went for a meal to see what it was like. Meals in general were lovely but need to improve on the bread and veg portions and quality.

We were very excited by the menu and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The baked crab starter was exquisite and the sea bass was amazing. We all enjoyed our dishes and couldn’t fault a thing. The staff were delightful. Make sure you go!

Booked based on recommendation’s and it didn’t disappoint . The food was well presented and the taste lived up to expectations. Some may say it’s pricey but that’s how it is when you want quality sustainable fish that is cooked to perfection. The tables are very nicely spaced so you’re not on top of your neighbours which is becoming a rarity these days. Don’t expect to book a few days in advance as you’re very likely not to get in so give it a good 3/4 weeks advance booking. We look forward to returning again and thank you for a very enjoyable evening.

What a gem. Let the quality of the produce shine. The quality and freshness of the seafood is exceptional. I was raised in Norfolk and to see such a great, intimate and unpretentious restaurant find success here makes me very happy. The dishes don’t try and mess too much with the produce and simply complement. Perfectly cooked sides. Fantastic service. All female team. Just brilliant Chapeau. 🎩

My wife and I visited for the first time on August 6th 2024 and were not disappointed. First of all, the service from the young staff was superb. They were all very polite and attentive and are a credit to the business. Our starter of garlic prawns was superb and of course very messy! I had a main course of halibut with shrimps and samphire which was exactly how a fish meal should be, exquisite! My wife had lemon sole and likewise was so impressed with the cooking and taste. We could not fault the meal at all. A couple of points which I think would be worth thinking about : Firstly, I wanted to give the staff a 10%tip which they thoroughly deserved but was told that they can only accept cash tips. We rarely carry cash in the cashless society and quite frankly it's ridiculous in this day and age not to be able to add a tip to the card payment. I'm sure these young people will be missing out and the owners should consider a change of policy. Secondly, we loved the restaurant and ambience but did feel that some "soft" music in the background would add to the atmosphere. But overall a tremendous meal with great service and we will definitely return. Mike and Julie Ward

Absolutely delicious meal. The baked coconut and chilli Cromer crab starter was soooo good! Definitely recommend that one! Main meals were excellent and the vegetable sides accompanying were really really lovely too! We ate here for our tenth-anniversary meal with our two small children while camping locally for the weekend. There is no children's menu, but they can do fish goujons with chips, or various other options adapted from the adults' menu. The quality of the kids meals was great, although my two are going through a fussy stage so didn't eat much unfortunately. There was no good reason for this though, because my husband and I tried their meals and it was very good. We'd definitely return next time we're in the area!

We visited twice in the week we stayed in Horning and were not disappointed Grace, our waitress was amazing and looked after us so well The food is the best fish we have had in a long time and very well cooked and presented A MUST if you like fish We loved the anchovies, the cod, the baked crab, the halibut, the skate and the Sole! Small menu but would have liked to try everything Great chef!

Another fabulous meal! Have been here for my birthday three years running and every experience has been top-notch. Tonight I had the scallops followed by halibut with brown shrimp, perfectly cooked and with the usual vegetables/potatoes to share. Husband had tiger prawns followed by sea bass, and we shared the white chocolate cheesecake. Amazing food at reasonable prices. Oh and service from a young staff was delightful! Hopefully will go back later in the summer for our anniversary 😄

Pretty well perfect in every respect. Outstanding menu for fish - almost everything you could wish for. Prices are not cheap but it does represent value for money considering the taste and presentation consistently produced. Every course was excellent. Not been for several years, but the standard is still sky high. Why are there not more places like this!?!

Fantastic atmosphere and a very warm welcome. We were shown the blackboard with the menu. We ordered a 1/2 bottle of white wine, which was served at the perfect temperature . Our order was taken swiftly and with a smile. Our starters arrived quickly and looked amazing from under the branch of PARSLEY and lemon wedge!! The chefs' food presentation and amazing flavours speak for themselves. It really shouldn't be covered, so you can't see it .. it's beautiful 😍 We had scallops and pate for our starters. Cod with crab and samphire with crispy skin and Monkfish for my husband. Beautiful vegetables and a dessert off the most decedant brownie and caramel ice cream . We can not recommend it highly enough. We made friends while having our meal too!! Thank you all for a beautiful evening and Chef ENOUGH WITH THE PARSLEY AND LEMON WEDGES!!!😆😆😅 your food is just amazing 👏

This was our first visit for a family celebration. We will return, as we enjoyed the experience very much. Norfolk has a lot of good restaurants, and we rated Bure Cottage as one of the best. If you like fish then visit. Highly recommended.

Love Love Love!! The food is just incredible and the staff were very attentive. We had mussels, crab, sea bream and halibut for starters and mains and just about squeezed in a panna cotta and brownie for dessert, each was delicious. We’ll be back again that is for certain.

Another beautiful meal. We've been coming to Bure River Cottage since our children were born and our eldest is about to turn 13. Everything from the homemade bread to the chocolate pot was mouthwatering. Smoked mackerel pate, cod goujons, anchovies and grilled seabass and vegetables were just delicious Very attentive and polite waiting staff also. Thank you. My sister and I brought our Mums for an Easter treat and I couldn't recommend this restaurant more highly. Superb fresh mussels, Cromer crabs, skate, halibut and deserts to die for. Friendly, helpful service made this a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thank you!

Really good, excellent food. My only criticism is the wine list which should have more old world wines on it, why a chenin blanc from SA for example when there are much better ones from the Loire eg Savennieres, Anjou and Saumur. Also from a sustainability point of view it's got to be better getting wine from closer by. More English wine would be great too, eg Kits Coty Chardonnay or Kits coty Bacchus, something from Danbury Ridge.

Excellent seafood restaurant. Small and popular so do book ahead even out of season. The menu is on a large blackboard that gets carted around the restaurant and presented to each table as they order. I went for local seafood, dressed Cromer Crab (with proper mayonnaise) followed by lobster, both excellent, but there were a wide range of fish and seafood choices to keep all of our group happy. Cozy atmosphere and very good service, so would highly recommend.

Lovely restaurant serving a range of fish dishes. I had swordfish whilst my wife had sea bream. Both were excellent. We liked the idea of sharing bowls for the chips, potatoes (yes you can have both) and veg. Service was very friendly and efficient.

We were here on holiday and spotted this restaurant, and decided to book, so glad we did, the food was spectacular, along with great service, we will be back next time we are here.

Enjoyed a couple of fantastic meals here while staying in Horning. The quality of the food was exceptional and it was good value for money for the quality provided. All staff were pleasant and service was not rushed, which we appreciated. Would highly recommend. Be sure to book in advance, especially during peak season, to avoid disappointment. I was very excited to take my seafood-fan of a father-in-law here based on the great reviews. I have found Google ratings for restaurants good for predicting places that I like, scores of 4.5+ stars (with sufficient numbers of reviews) rarely fail me. We must have caught the kitchen on a bad day as the lobsters were dried, likely to have been cooked & held. The simple preparation of ‘garlic butter’ shouldn’t need anything other than split open, apply the butter & salamander? The intention to treat a dear relative to a dish they love, but oftentimes unwilling to choose due to the sense that they feel it is too extravagant makes the disappointment all the more keenly felt. The service was attentive and efficient and starters were good. Extensive menu.

Exceptional sea food restaurant.

Found this beautiful little gem of a restaurant whilst venturing around the broads and what a wonderful place to eat. The food was delicious and very nice interior with wonderful staff. Would recommend if you love your seafood.

Met up for dinner here with some long-standing friends while boating on the Broads in March 2023. It is a lovely small restaurant serving superb food. We'll be back next time we're on the Broads.

Excellent. There aren't many places that are busy before 6pm but this one was. So determined are people to sample the food, that dinner can really be early evening. Staff helpful and efficient.

Beautifully cooked food, I had scallops to start followed by halibut both were well cooked and delicious. The restaurant is fairly noisy when busy, making it a bit hard to hear the table conversion. But overall well work a visit for a special treat!

Staff were excellent, food was average, prices were rather steep. Based on the reviews seen on the web we were expecting an excellent meal which turned out to be reasonable and rather expensive.

We booked this as a family for a birthday treat. The staff working there were all super friendly and the menu was delightful. Specialising in seafood and fish, the baked crab and tuna was exceptional. The restaurant whilst small was nicely presented and clean and tidy, including the toilets. Would highly recommend.

My family visited Bure River Cottage for a Father's Day treat after walking past it multiple times. We had three courses, all delicious. Everything was cooked very well and with excellent flavours. On the last day of our holiday we had a fantastic meal at the Bure River Restaurant. Probably the best restaurant meal we have ever had. The the staff were lovely and could not do enough for us and the fish served was excellent. Highly recommended. My Wife would like cooking lessons from the brilliant lady Chef.

I called them to reserve a table which they were fully booked.
