What a little gem of a hidden treasure this pub is. Had a room booked in a nearby b & b and thought as it's closed I'll give it a whirl. The menu choices were amazing and my meal was excellent. It was nice to have a chefs menu rather than a pubs chain menu!!! My meal was obviously freshly cooked and arrived on a hot plate. Another plus for this pub was the furniture. The chairs were extremely comfortable and you didn't keep sliding down in the chair. The table was also a credit to the pub due to it's quality. If I could give 10 ✨ I would.

Your fish dishes are delicious but choice limited. Ambience leaves much to be desired very tired and cheap furnishing, such a shame as food needs a much better venue.

A most enjoyable evening for myself and my wife. Particularly good value as we benefitted from the November promotion giving us the lowest priced main course for just a £1.00. A genuine offer with no corners cut. Sea Bass fish of the day was perfect. The Fishmongers is heading towards being a first class eatery coupled with the ambience of a homely English pub!

Honest Review Time. Never a negative but always fair feedback. The team: stellar customer service, so warm, welcoming and friendly. Made me feel comfortable, welcome and relaxed. Great service on the bar, a quiz night, Chef is accommodating, allergies/intolerances are no problems and they go above and beyond to help during your stay. Breakfast: Great choice, fresh ingredients, hot and good portions. Delicious. Room (room 1): Fantastic size, comfy beds and lovely tea tray, even biscuits! Lovely hot rain shower with regular shower too, heater/fan and TV. So why 1 star less? In my opinion, could do with a couple of chairs, maybe a small desk or dressing table, I felt there was room and when the sofa is made up in to a bed there is only the beds to sit on, but not a real issue. Carpet is very fluffy too. I would highly recommend a stay here, an amazing place. Short walk to bus stops, train station, Tesco, the high street and beach. Fabulous, cannot thank the team enough. Top Class service and superb stay. Thank you.

My wife and I used to live near Durban in South Africa. That is a Mecca for sea-food lovers! I decided to take her to the "Fishmongers" for a Birthday meal, as I had heard good things about them! We were NOT disappointed! We both had the Seafood Linguini and it was supurb! Cooked to perfection and, extremely tasty! The staff were friendly and competant, without being overbearing. Our seafood platter was delicious, showcasing the best products which are made in house with a beautiful addition of Rollmop herrings. The delightful front of house waitress relocated us to a larger table when we ordered on account of the size of the platter. Excellent value, beautiful red wine and it was very evident that feedback has been listened to with the improvements to the internal decor and ambience which is now much easier on the eye. I booked a table very last minute as we were in the area and were looking for somewhere to eat that was dog friendly. Both of our meals were delicious, I had the salmon which was perfect and my husband had the seafood platter, which gave a good variety of seafood, beautifully presented and, I’m assured, tasted fresh and was thoroughly enjoyed. The reason I wanted to write a review was the staff. They were so polite, asking if everything was ok without being intrusive and with a good knowledge about the food. We thought it was very reasonably priced. We will definitely come again if we’re in the area.

Booked a table in advance as was just around the corner from where we were staying. The table service was absolutely fine .. took order (without use of a pad etc very impressed there were 7 of us) and drinks were promptly bought to the table. We all ordered different things .. 2 had fish dishes .. which were amazing and 2 had chicken burgers, one had beef burger and myself and my sister had the cottage pie. Our pie was red hot temperature (I love my food really hot) and was absolutely delicious, the gravy was the best have had for a long time. In fact we went somewhere else for a sunday roast and both of us said wish we had of gone back and had the cottage pie again it was that good. We did have a dog with us but they are only allowed in one part of the place so if you don't want dogs about just ask to sit in non dog area. Can't vouch for the garden as we arrived as was getting dark. Only criticisms we had were .. the tables are a little sticky, if they just wiped over with a wet cloth instead of a spray that would solve the issue or place paper table clothes on the tables. The veg that came with the cottage pie could have been a little more interesting .. my preference would have been green beans, carrots (did come with) and some broccoli or cauliflower (cooked to a slight bite not hard) with peas. We were offered extra mash but as we didn't know how big the pie was going to be said yes and then another of our party had that with gravy on as we were full, we were offered extra gravy if we wanted it. All in all there was a nice relaxed feeling and the staff (young lady) that visited our table who explained all the food were very good indeed. The food is lovely and reasonably priced I would certainly recommend a visit to Fishmongers Tavern and will definitely be going back again when we next visit Sheringham.

Had a great stay. We wanted a couple of days at the seaside and chose Sheringham. Good parking outside at the front of the tavern. A lovely warm welcome from Ruby, who showed us to the room, when we went in alI I could say wow large room with bathroom and shower, king size bed which was very comfortable. Because we were tired from travelling we decided to have an evening meal there which was very nice a hearty plate of food. The young lad who served us was helpful and polite ( sorry didn’t take his name) Had a good nights sleep. The room came with a choice of different Breakfasts ,on the first day I had a full English and the wife had pancakes very filling and the next morning I had smoked kipper all were very nice. A big shout out to Ruby who is super helpful and enthusiastic in everything she does a big asset to the tavern. We would go back again.

Booked a table at The Fishmongers Tavern for my wife and I for a meal after the Forties Event on the North Norfolk Railway in Sheringham. There was a beer festival event going on at the rear but the restaurant was not too busy. Service was reasonable for drinks and taking the food order and the starter arrived in reasonable time. I ordered smoked prawns and lemon aoli but the prawns served were just plane fresh ones. My wife had an excellent pate, toast and pickled courgette. For main she had a lovely piece of salmon with prawn potato and crab mayonnaise on calabrese, good but a bit dry. I had a lamb hot pot from their specials board but it was quite disappointing as it was made from minced lamb with some baked beans, sliced potato and cheese. The fresh vegetables were late, soggy and limp having been bunged in a bowl on the pass. Didn't bother with a sweet and had to pay at the counter because all the portable machines were at the beer festival!

Service good and attention as required. Marked change from our last visit as it appears to have moved away from a good restaurant type venue more towards a pub food establishment. The menu is very similar to so many establishments in Sheringham. The sausage and mash just appeared to lack imagination, I know it sounds daft but that's how it felt. The fish pie seems still tasty but smaller. A small oval fish and a spoon cabbage £15.00 ??? Needs more fish less potatoes. Realise costs are horrendous but rather pay a little more as it was whan we first visited 😊

Food generally goid but paella was more of a chorizo soup, lots of fish but chorizo was to much and overpowered to fish also a soup texture. Didn't stop for dessert as there was nothing we wanted also wanted to get out as the noise was spoiling our supposedly quite meal we wanted. Restaurant wasn't very full but the table of 4 next to us were so loud and didn't stop talking loudly. Service was good fish and chips good. The menu has changed somewhat from our last visit and was a bit disappointing.

The one that got away… After hearing good things, we wanted to try out this local restaurant. Welcomed to our table by attentive and friendly waiting staff and not too busy at the tail end of the season. Seafood paella had lots of portions of big fish, but was overly soupy, with too much liquid, perhaps that’s why it was served in a large bowl, rather than a plate. The seafood platter consists of the seafood starters, with the addition of a good sized prepared crab. Whilst the crab, roll mops and mackerel pate were great. The rest of the dish consisted of deep fried prawns and squid rings, which were fine, but not as good as the fresh food. Hoisin duck made an appearance as a starter, but seemed to have been reheated from a packet, along with the gloopy sauce. But with the richness of seafood available, it seemed a strange item to have on the menu. As a pub restaurant it’s fine (and I’ve had some fantastic meals in pubs), but as a seafood restaurant, you have better choices along the coast.

Worst meal I’ve had for ages . My mum had a sea bass on rice but again very poor. The rice was not nice. Such a shame. Fish and chips (catch of the day), we asked for it to be well cooked but it still arrived too wet and there were far too many bones left in. Service was very slow, for example the tomato sauce we asked for, didn't arrive until we were half way through our meal (they weren’t particularly busy, only a few tables in). Finally the tartar sauce was tasteless, and just like lumpy mayonnaise. We really were disappointed in the quality of food! The bar staff were pleasant though.

What can I say about this fabulous eatery! We had booked a table and just as well as the place was busy. The staff were warm and welcoming and shown to a lovely table and ordered drinks while we decided what we wanted to eat from an extensive menu. The name of the restaurant makes you think that it only serves fish dishes but that is far from what is on offer here. I had pan fried cod loin with chorizo and smoked croquette, local greens with lemon cockle butter and my wife had Cromer crab salad, lemon aioli, roasted buttered new potatoes and chefs bread. The food was excellent, well presented and cooked to perfection, the sticky toffee pudding we had for dessert was the best we’d ever tasted—-and we’ve tasted plenty. The staff were friendly and helpful helping to make our evening a success. Next time we’re in North Norfolk we’ll definitely be heading for the Fishmongers Tavern!

A really lovely little place to stay. Very friendly and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble, and our room was spotless. The only thing I could say is that the bathrooms could do with a couple of hooks to hang damp towels and perhaps a small shelf in the shower itself to stand toiletries. These are only minor details. Other than that it was lovely. Would definitely recommend. Thanks for a nice weekend 😊

Just eaten at Fishmongers Tavern very disappointing experience, the waitress couldn’t have cared less , 2 fish dishes unavailable, several wines unavailable, beer unavailable etc etc…. the steak pie was a poor substitute for some sort of mince pie , all potatoes no gravy , the prawn salad was limp and gone over with no dressing and we weren’t offered the specials board, at no point was there any offer of an apology or compensation in the form of deserts or coffee …customer service seriously needs looking at , with so many good eating places in the area this place needs to significantly up its game.

We initially went for lunch during the week had a great experience, the food was good and the staff were great so we decided to book for Sunday lunch. Three of us had tempura prawns to start which were really very very good. Then two had roast dinner which was really good, good quality meats with a nice selection of vegetable and a small pot of extra gravy on the side which is a very nice touch. My wife opted for a Caesar salad but asked if she could have prawns instead of chicken which was readily agreed too. Desserts were FORCED down because its compulsory on a Sunday :) two sticky toffee puds which were awesome and a Baileys cheesecake. Again the serving staff were great and I think it was the landlady who came over and spoke to us a couple of times to check we were happy with our dining experience..........we were and we will return. No hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking for a friendly pub/restaurant ...........incidentally they have live music in the garden which supports the local air ambulance.

This place has now hit its stride after taking over the old Dunstable, and mixes best of being an ordinary pub (excellent beer), and a touch of the gastro experience too (decent prices, varied and quality menu). They're good with last minute bookings (a rarity these days on this coast) and the beer garden out back is superb, in good weather, for both adults and kids. Live music (classic nostalgia) on a Saturday evening. Handily located at the bottom of our road as local residents. But with easy nearby parking too, very highly recommended to anyone.

Firstly the beer, ordered hand pulled beer- first was so flat I questioned whether it was right, server agreed probably going (he should have know), so I chose a different one- not much different and noticed he pulled it by placing the glass on the drip tray and squirting it into the glass without holding the glass and no end sparkler on the pub. So that beer wasn’t much better but drank most of it before I gave up and ordered a Guinness! Food was quite basic really, I had the lemon sole special, tiny fillet so not much fish and quite greasy along with fried new potatoes. Most of the food seems to be fried. Wife had fish pie which was ok but over cooked. We ordered a cheese plate between the 2 of us, waitress brought it and said she’d get us some cutlery and game back with 2 spoons!! Think the very young staff need some training on the bar, and general service. Quite nice inside, better than looks from outside. But wouldn’t go back.

The background noise was so quiet in the separate restaurant room that the 5 of us could have a really good conversation together, which is so rare these days. The service was very good. I would really recommend this restaurant.

We managed to get a late booking for a group of 8. Lovely welcome, no rush as they asked if we’d like to watch the penalty shoot out for the England match, which we were very grateful for. Friendly service, good choice of food, which we all enjoyed. Our only problem was a table next to us which was very noisy with lots of children’s shouting going on, but that wasn’t the restaurant’s fault, and it quietened down when they left. Thoroughly recommend

The meal began hopefully with a decent prawn cocktail and tempura. Unfortunately the descent was steep and fast. The fish pie was underwhelming, the fried fish and chips was at once point tasty but had been placed on the sidelines to await a corrected wrong order, the linguine was wet, watery and bland. The most offensive item however was a mushy, soft, cheesecake made from synthetic cream which hadn’t sniffed a Baileys - the flavour it purported to resemble. Our jug of Pimms, albeit generous in volume, was weak enough to be served to toddlers. Overall disappointing with a few decent moments.

We booked again as we really wanted the seafood platter but were disappointed that it was a big day for the crab as it was sold out. However the menu including the special had enough option to choose a good alternative. Service was very good. As the restaurant had live music in the garden it was nice to extend our evening.

We had a fantastic lunch. The crab salad was delicious and the fish and chips (4 choices of fish) were amazing too

Our second lunch before the end of pier show matinee & once again it was great. Most of the tables have a sea view. The service was attentive & both our starters & mains were great With some wine, one dessert & coffees the bill came to around £100 which these days is good value. Better value & better quality cooking than the White Horse at Brancaster Staithe. Allow a couple of hours for lunch and it sets you up well for the 2:30 matinee performance on the pier.

Just paid for two dressed crabs and a sandwich and when I got home and opened the bag there was only the dressed crabs and no sandwich

The Good - the fish and chips were lovely, when you eventually get them (see The Bad). The Bad - their food is made on order, so not like a conventional fish and chip shop where the food is pretty much already made and the service is fast. I was in the queue for probably 3 quarters of an hour (no exaggeration). As soon as you’re inside the shop, you’re asked what you want, which gives you a false sense of optimism. It just means your food is made on order though. Meanwhile, all the customers in front of you, once they start being served at the till, take about 10 minutes each. There is only one person serving and two people cooking. I understand why they’re doing this - it’s to increase their margin and avoid wastage. But all that comes at a cost to the customer who suffers awful service. Maybe think about having two people on service and see your reviews regularly scoring 5.

This was our 3rd visit and every time I have come away thinking how great it is. Very lovely staff front of house who do the owners credit. Menu was seasonal, varied and tasty. Food and drink reasonably priced for the standard. Chefs always on point here.
