The Good - the fish and chips were lovely, when you eventually get them (see The Bad). The Bad - their food is made on order, so not like a conventional fish and chip shop where the food is pretty much already made and the service is fast. I was in the queue for probably 3 quarters of an hour (no exaggeration). As soon as you’re inside the shop, you’re asked what you want, which gives you a false sense of optimism. It just means your food is made on order though. Meanwhile, all the customers in front of you, once they start being served at the till, take about 10 minutes each. There is only one person serving and two people cooking. I understand why they’re doing this - it’s to increase their margin and avoid wastage. But all that comes at a cost to the customer who suffers awful service. Maybe think about having two people on service and see your reviews regularly scoring 5.

Fish was greasy and the chips were limp,cold and also greasy and it had to be the most watery curry sauce ever,very poor and a really slow wait as well for what was really mediocre food.

I do wish you would update your Web site. 4 times now we have looked seen your open and come along for fish and chips. Really fed up. It only takes a minute to put your opening times on.

Well where do I start miserable old cow serving cod was square like a spam Fritter and black as soot underneath obviously using filthy oil the chips were vile reheated greasy rubber and cold couldn't eat it wouldn't give it to my dogs £35 in the bin disgusting!

This is my go to place for fish and chips being a coeliac not too many places this shop is worth the trip as Fish is lovely and the chips are great.

Ended up here as another chippy was closed. Was not disappointed, food is made to order, so had to wait a short while. We had, fish, chips, sausages, mushy peas and curry sauce. All of this was fresh and tasted amazing, will be returning next year when I visit.

Very very good chips! They reuse boxes instead of plastic bags which is a good thing for the environment. We thought it was funny when they ladeda box full of chips for the 10 of us. Price was reasonable.

My wife's gluten free and it can be tough to find good fish and chips. Most don't have it at all, some have it just on a certain day, and some do it every day but it's not that good. These guys have various gluten free options as a core part of their menu. We phoned up in advance and it was ready right on time, with everything clearly labelled. Chips were nice and crunchy with good portions, and the fish batter was superb. We all hoovered it up. They also made a fuss over our 5 year old who went back in to ask lots of 5 year old type questions. We will certainly be back

Probably the worst cod roe I have ever had. The batter was burnt and the cod roe really thin and as it was raining I couldn't be bothered taking it back, avoid this place like the plague and save your money. Maybe if the people who run the shop actually did the job rather than talk to people things wouldn't get burnt

We planned to get our F&C supper from here due to the Trip Advisor reviews and the food itself was very nice and cooked fresh but the queue was interminable! Admittedly they had several large family orders ahead of us but they were also accepting telephone orders to jump the queue, some of which weren’t picked up until 25 minutes after the requested time! However, given the short window of opening time (1700hrs to 2030hrs) on a Saturday evening and the fact it had been a gloriously sunny bank holiday Saturday should have been an indicator of a busy serving period, and the serving of one large cod and chips, one large haddock and chips and one cheese burger shouldn’t have required a wait of over an a hour. Also to add to the frustration, given the simplicity of the order, it is the writer’s humble opinion that the server shouldn’t have got the order she put through the till wrong even once but she actually got it wrong twice…because it had been a ‘long day’. At least it was hot and fresh…

Ordered two Large Cod and chips, thick pieces of cod that was over cooked and chips well more the scrapings left at bottom and over cooked. Cod was fried and then for some reason left on hot shelf for at least 5 mins cooking even more. Very disappointed as recommended this shop. Wouldn’t go back sorry.

Always visit when we come here ,and never lets us down.Fish fried to order so always fresh and hot.Very friendly lady serving and all at half of the price we pay back home. Best fish and chips ever.

A, so avoid friday evening, 6pm, small queue of 3 outside the shop - 45 minutes for 2 x chips. They cook your food when you order, and everyone has to wait for that order to be cooked & served before they move onto the next order. Absolutely crazy, so be warned. Chips were OK!

We come to Bacton regularly as a family and like nothing more than a fish and chips in the evening after a day on the beach. The fish and chips here are good, however the owner has been consistently rude. On our last visit, he barked at us repeatedly telling us we hadn’t ordered ‘correctly’, scared a number of visitors off as the queue was too big and he wanted to close early, and left a long queue of people bewildered and saying they would not be coming back due to his rude and obnoxious behaviour. He is fortunate that they own the only fish and chip shop in the village, so will always have custom purely for convenience of local visitors. That’s said, we have made the decision that we won’t be coming back and have found better fish and chips with lovely friendly customer service both in neighbouring Walcott and Mundesley - both very much worth the visit to avoid the rude behaviour of the owner in Bacton.

Food was great! We had fish chips sausage in batter and curry sauce. All cooked fresh and beautifully! Curry sauce one of the best I’ve had! Only downside was we waited exactly an hour for it so wouldn’t go back

Have visited here several times and never fail to impress. The fish is so fresh and the gluten free option in gluten free cooked in a separate fryer, not the fish fryer.

I never got to try the fare so cannot comment on it. I tried the door (Sunday midday in August) and was surprised to find it locked. After trying again I turned to go back to my partner who was waiting in the car park. suddenly I heard a tirade of abuse coming from inside. Then an elderly foreign man rushed out and kept calling me an idiot etc. Momentarily I thought it might be a good idea to bop him one but thought better of it. Went away to Bacton for the weekend and had to have our favourite treat .Fish and chips from the sea is second to none and the taste of the Bscton fish Shop is one to savour.If you are anywhere near you MUST go in.!!!

Great place for a lunchtime stop & traditional fish & chips. Very polite service from the lady owner. My order was freshly cooked & the chips were thick and a beautiful colour just like the old days & the best I’ve tasted in years. The shop is very Covid-19 safe with social distancing adhere too & a great use of a sweet tin so as to not to handle notes.. thank you.

Once everyone has finished work for the day, drive up to the coast and get gluten free fish and chips from these lovely people. Cooked to perfection and there was a lovely atmosphere outside as we waited a few minutes for our order to be prepared. Met another chap from Norwich who said he'd been coming here every week for years - winter and summer - so they must be doing something right! Afterwards went for a walk and a paddle down at the beach.

You can't beat fish and chips by the sea right? The cottage where we stayed recommended this little chippy (amongst other establisments) and we had decided to give it a try. We visited at lunchtime and used their car park which was very busy so I stayed in the car to move it when necessary while my wife went in to order.The food when we got it was delicious. As other reviewers have noted the batter is darker than I've seen before, but not to the taste detriment of the food. Chips were delicious and portions were more on the large than small side of normal.As we'd enjoyed the food so much we stopped again when walking later in our stay, in the evening this time. The queue was long but they asked along the line for orders while waiting (I guess around 6-8 in front of me when I was asked) so it was ready when you reached the front of the queue. Some people had telephoned orders ahead.The operator (owner?) was quite chatty with people that he appeared to know, presumably locals. When I asked for cod nothing more was said, but when locals asked for cod they were asked "middle or tail?". When I arrived near the head of the queue a local immediately behind me in the queue and who had telephoned his order was served before me, which was mildly annoying.Our cod was smaller (certainly a different shape) than we had been served previously, although in fairness it may possibly have been thicker. Others were served pieces in the 'traditional' shape we had been served previously. We were full when we'd finished, and if we hadn't visited before and got larger pieces of fish probably wouldn't have thought anything of it but it did make me wonder quite why they differentiate.Having returned a second time we felt the quality was good, and would return again if in the area.

The fish is cooked to order(and is good) their are so many chips its unbelievable.If the weather is good you can eat outside on picnic benches.One time the queue was outside the door and I was waiting for an hour.I told them it should be calles "The Royal Bactonion" but they would`nt have it.

The shop had an overwhelming smell of something that had gone off. Food tasted ok but was dark brown as a result of old cooking oil having been used. I noticed that I am not the first reviewer to mention that the oil could do with a change here. So with a good clean and oil change this would be 5*.

Recommended by the owner of the cottage we are renting. Over cooked is an understatement, I strongly suspect that the fish & chips were left over from lunchtime & had been re fried. Ended up in the bin.

I love my fish and chips but these were as bad as they come The fish had obviously been re-cooked to a stage where the bottom was burnt, never seen that before. The chips were much the same and dripping in fat. Had a couple of bites and put the whole lot in the bin. I only live in the next village and thought I would give this place a try, never again, absolutely diabolical.

Always come to this little fish and chip shop when we are in the area we had 2 large cod and one large portion of chips we had a little wait but worth it as they were beautifully cooked as usual I also asked for the skin to be taken off and noticed that they do gluten free fish and chips.We took them and sat by the side overlooking the beach wonderful

Our usual fish and chip stop being closed for holidays, we chanced upon the Bacton Fish Shop and were very glad that we did. The shop was busy and we had to queue for a while but the chips were freshly cooked and crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, just as we like them. The fish was cooked to order and perfect with crispy batter covering delicious cod within. What more can I say?
