06/11/2017: Sitio elegante y romántico. Cena más que correcta. Servicio llevado a cabo por españoles. Luz baja
30/10/2017: Attended for a wedding, nice venue. But bathrooms are only on the bottom floor down 3/4 flights of stairs. Which is a little strange for a big venue. But aside from that, great venue/ service.

Aizle

Southside / Newington, Edinburgh, City of, >100£
14/08/2017: a.i.z.l.e or aizle … not sure which way it is, but in either case this restaurant is fabulous. On a recent trip to Scotland, we made 2 restaurant reservations; aizle and Andrew Farlie’s Restaurant in Gleneagles. We came to aizle for the food and we were not disappointed. Visually the plates were stunning … the colors and detail were truly a work of art. You were excited just looking at it! The beetroot, mackerel and gooseberry dish in particular was beautiful to behold and the blend of flavors was perfect. The lamb plating had 2 different lamb offerings … one was was a piece of lamb on a bed of peas while the second serving as kind of a “lamb confit” (I am not sure what it is called) … but, whatever it is called it was second only to the French Laundry in lamb flavor!Dessert was this magical concoction of raspberry, while chocolate, goats milk and anise hyssop. But the real magic came from the goats milk … if was frozen into fluffy light crystals which had a wonderful subtle tone complimenting the other ingredients but as they melted the whole flavor scheme changed in your mouth. The waitstaff were a pleasure to interact with … very knowledgable and to us they seemed to be just nice people, someone you would want to sit down and have a beer with to get to know a bit more. Was it better than Andrew Farlie’s Restaurant? You really cannot compare the “Farlie experience” with aizle, mainly because you can not separate the Farlie experience from the Farlie food. But, the next time we are in Edinburgh, we will be going to aizle and I can not say that for Andrew Farlie’s. aizle is exceptional and I highly recommend it. I hope that they get recognized for their food mastery but part of me hopes that they stay off the Michelin starred list as the prices go too high and it becomes too difficult to book. However, I think they are in the 2-3 star range … please keep that quiet.

Purslane Restaurant

Inverleith, Edinburgh, City of
19/08/2017: I book a table to celebrate my fiance birthday. Once we arrived the attention was fantastic, we ordered Matching Wines and they perfect with the food. Our dinner was perfect, every dish was a new experience in texture and flavour. So far our favourite restaurant in Edinburgh, and of course we are planning to go back.

Number One at The Balmoral

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of, 60-100£
20/08/2017: Tucked away in the basement of The Balmoral, this Michelin-starred restaurant is a must if you're foodie looking for something magical. Unlike other Michelin restaurants where you question whether the money and food made sense, this restaurant is reasonable in expense for the creations the chef creates. And the sommelier has a talent for making your evening sparkle. Just let him do his "thing"--give him whatever information you'd like (budget, wines you like, regions, etc.) and watch him work. You won't be disappointed.
18/08/2017: Staff here are superb, very friendly and accommodating. My son had the first grouse of the season, which he said was delicious! For me, the highlights were the delicious breads on offer and the petit four trolley - it was a feast for the eyes and the tummy - like something out of Willy Wonka! A delightful meal, could not fault it.

Locanda De Gusti

Sighthill / Gorgie, Edinburgh, City of, 20-30£
20/08/2017: My other half booked this restaurant based on TripAdvisor reviews as a treat for my 51th birthday on our weekend in Edinburgh The restaurant is small but that just adds to the overall friendliness. In fact, it was like having a meal with family that you hadn't seen for years. Nothing was too much to ask. The food was fantastic, I had the orecchiette which delicious and my better half had the pork belly which was cooked to perfection. Good choice of desserts with tiramisu and the lemon sponge served in glass jars which were our pick. Both of us had a Latte to finish which was far superior to those you get in more mainstream coffee shopsAnd the whole restaurant sang 'Happy Birthday' to me at the end which was a lovely touch! If you find yourself in Edinburgh, this is a fantastic restaurant with fantastic people and I would recommend without reservation (but be sure to book in advance)
20/08/2017: This is one of our favourite restaurants in Edinburgh, not just for the delicious food but also for the super friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. The food seems to get better and better: the stuffed ravioli with butter and sage is divine! Best I have ever had, including in Italy!

Rhubarb - The Restaurant at Prestonfield

Southside / Newington, Edinburgh, City of, >100£
19/08/2017: On our last night in Edinburgh we treated ourselves to dinner at Rhubarb. You drive up to a stately manor with beautiful grounds and welcoming staff. The Rhubarb restaurant is elegantly furnished and has views of the lawns. The servers were professional and attentive. The food was excellent - well prepared and presented. A perfect dinner in a perfect place.
18/08/2017: "Why call a restaurant describing the venue as an opulent setting 'Rhubarb?'" I asked myself while planning out Friday night out. Turns out that one of the owners was an avid horticulturalist and introduced rhubarb to Scotland. It's in the history notes provided on request as you leave.Prestonfield House is actually an hotel; the cost to stay there is from £300-ish to just under £600 a night depending on which room you're in and the time of year. They throw in champagne and a goodies basket, I'm told. The house itself is reminiscent of Holyrood Palace, which should not surprise you considering that the architect of the former worked on the latter. The courteous, friendly staff actually encourage you to explore the house to see its wealth of historical artefacts and there's a lot to see.We chose from the table d'hote menu; the options on the main menu are a bit pricy. Richard had the guinea fowl terrine, blade of beef, and crumble. I had the pickled red snapper, hake, and chocolate. The terrine was firm, flavourful, and nicely presented. The beef was melt-in-the-mouth and the crumble came with Apple sorbet. My snapper came with mussels and scallops. The flavours were subtle and delicate. The hake was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and say on a bed of spring greens and samphire. My chocolate brownie was warm and runny in the middle, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice cream.Service was unhurried, as is befitting of such a magnificent place. One does not rush off to a show after dining here, one sits back with a wee dram to complete the meal. The bucolic setting reminded me of my childhood home in Ireland. At one point I saw a black bull amble past a tree in the field adjoining the grounds, eat some grass, then wander off. A sight like that makes you forget you're but a few minutes from the bustle of the city.I dressed up for the occasion but you don't have to, smart casual is acceptable here. I still found myself wishing I had a tiara just so I could wear it there - it's that kind of place. The final bill for both of us nudged £100 but then we both had wine and I had a glass of Glenmorangie. If you're planning a posh night out, Rhubarb should be top of your list of places to go.

Bramble Bar & Lounge

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
16/08/2017: Bramble is one of those places you love from the first moment you get in. Its so small, and hidden, a truly speakeasy, if u ever have the chance to visit Edimburgo, Bramble is a must, this cocktail menu is amazing, not better then the cocktails itself of course. Really nice place!!! Will come back for another mint 500.
14/08/2017: My wife and I sought out Bramble when we visited Edinburgh for my birthday in July. It's a bugger to find (downstairs under the dry cleaner) but worth it. We turned up shortly after opening on a Sunday and were the only customers there. We loved the ramshackle decor. Our heavily bearded barman was just great, couldn't place the accent but he was very welcoming and made us want to stay for a second round of really, really good cocktails. Places like Bramble can often suffer from pretentious, snobby bar staff so this guy was a credit to the place, not least because he could knock up a mean cocktail. Recommended.

Pickles

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
Klare Empfehlung.
17/08/2017: The food is simply amazing, so tasty. The staff are so friendly & very helpful. There were 3 of us who visited and we asked for two mixed boards and the waitress straight away said that will probably be too much & advised us to get the 1 and we could add on if we wanted. We really appreciated her honesty. You can even take your un-eaten chutney & pate jars home. The waitress even offered to wrap our ham & cheese up to take home. The restaurant had such a nice atmosphere. I can't recommend pickles enough. We will most definitely be returning.

The Kitchin

Leith, Edinburgh, City of, >100£
21/08/2017: We ate here on a recent trip to Edinburgh for the Fringe. The whole night was a wonderful culinary experience. All the food was sublime . They asked us if we had any particular dislikes/allergies before the meal. We ordered the taster menu with matching wine package which consisted of about 9 courses . Each one was described to us by a menu of staff (i.e. were it was sourced and the wine match) The food was amazing and the staff very attentive without being over bearing. We have eaten at similar standard restaurants before but this was the first time the name on the door was actually there.(i.e. Mr Tom Kitchin). So hats off to the man and thanks to all involved for making it a great night.
21/08/2017: The whole experience of eating here is of a very high quality. Service is attentive and warm, and the set three course dinner is excellent. Wines however are highly priced.

THE CAFFEINE DRIP

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of

Nonna's Kitchen

Meadows / Morningside, Edinburgh, City of, 45-60£

Roseleaf

Leith, Edinburgh, City of, <20£
18/08/2017: Out of the way a bit but always full of folk.Eccentric describes the decor!Warm hearted hospitality describes the vibe.Strong on beers, but cocktails in teapots can't be bad.Our medium portions of Cullen skink (the best fish soup) were very good. The Kedgeree was a shade ordinary but generous and my MAC & chips very comforting.Service with a smile excellent.

Bia Bistrot

Meadows / Morningside, Edinburgh, City of
Consiglio l'agnello(Lamb)
05/08/2017: We had a lovely meal here with friends. Kasha our waitress gave exceptional service, really friendly and a good laugh. Menu is understated but food is excellent- cooked well, good presentation and not an unreasonable price. We went for the recommended wine which bumped up the cost of the meal - it was very nice wine though! We'd come back here again in a heartbeat and intend to very soon. Great place.

Castle Terrace Restaurant

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
20/08/2017: Booked lunch as a surprise for my husband's 40th birthday and was not disappointed. Everything from the service to the food was excellent. We've eaten at a few different Michelin starred restaurants around the world and I can definitely say that this place deserves a star. Also would like to add they were kindly accommodating to my dietary requirements. Highly recommend the wine paring as the sommelier was very knowledgeable and the wines matched perfectly.
19/08/2017: We had the set lunch with matching wine package and it was excellent. The food is a delight for the senses - beautiful to look at and the taste explodes in your mouth. The wine is matched to your food choice and expertly explained by the sommelier. The front of house team were friendly but not intrusive. You really don't want the experience to end and if you are looking for a gift for a foodie then visit the website and buy a gift voucher. The recipient will appreciate it!

Dubh Prais

City Centre, Edinburgh, City of
20/08/2017: We have been visiting this restaurant for a long number of years. We have sung lyrically about James's attention to detail, great cooking and use of local ingredients. When we arrived, it was a great disappointment to learn that he had retired and sold the restaurant. We were initially heartened to learn that the Menu looked very similar. However, the attention is in the detail. Where before you could be sure the best of beef, vegetables and sauces, would be excellently prepared, we soon realised that this was now not the case. We had ordered, and consumed our starter and main course within 35 minutes. Starters obviously "ready to go". If we had wished fast food, we would have went for a Pizza. The evening was highlighted by a fellow diner, who chewed and chewed his "collop of beef" before giving up, declaring it inedible. Previously, the "collop" had been a fillet of best scotch beef, now it was a braised shin of beef, at best. Staff were welcoming. What used to be a "destination" restaurant, has been transformed into a "run of the mill" restaurant, where good Scottish fayre is not available. The photographs displayed on TP are not indicative of the current Menu and need to be replaced.
18/08/2017: We called into this restaurant even though it looked small and was down flight of stairs. The food was very nice and the price quite reasonable
