4 friends for lunch and always found The Ava great. We spent over £200 ....hd lunch laughs and tears, as my Sister is ill and we all needed a chat. We were told to be quiet, by a young guy behind the bar... Really.... the place was dead very quiet Then told our table was reserved.... can we leave. Unbelievable....they took our booking for 14th December, but we will not be BACK. WHERE are all the old staff. Place is a joke Ps I've laughed at The Ritz , The Shard The Merchant..... The Ava pmsl

Stopped for a light lunch and was greeted by quite an unfriendly lady at the counter. The soup was veg but was mostly barley with the odd carrot, (I like barley but not the amount that’s in this) The girl who brought the lunch out was very friendly but I wouldn’t really be in a rush to go back.

A grand wee place but probably not for the young and trendy. It might be described as 'a safe pair of hands' with very pleasant staff a solid if unspectacular menu and well cooked, tasty food. I guess it's pet friendly, at least in the covered outdoor seating.

My friend and I were here today for lunch. Service was fantastic, quick and prompt. Our waiter was pleasant and even moved us to a window seat when it become available. Thank you:-) I had the smoked Haddock as pictures show, my friend had mini mixed grill, he said it was delicious. We shared a desert of toffee sponge- it was ok. We both had coffee to finish- mine was baileys coffee, very good! Can’t wait to come again. Thank you :-)

This is a place I went to for many years growing up and am keen to take my young family in turn when we visit the area. The food remains a very high standard and the cinnamon scones are as good as ever. Sadly we were disappointed to find no menu or options specifically for kids. Equally, the menu had a range of options for breakfast/brunch and lunch but it did not specify which were available. The waiter had to list the items that I could choose and which were only available for lunch (we went at 1030). I would visit again but perhaps not with young children.

Have been to Wolseys for dinner a few times and food is always great, however booked for a Sunday Lunch and upon arrival noticed the stairs to go the restaurant weren't there, asked at the bar and was told upstairs is closed on a Sunday. This was very much a surprise given it was a Sunday I would have expected the restaurant to be open. We ended being seated by 3 hungover young ladies, one of which looked like she was sleeping on the seat, we then had football fans on our other side who were watching the match and using bad language. This really put a dampener on our visit with our 2 year old, not ideal by any means. Even if a section was closed off for people eating that would make it a bit better. Although I would much rather have been told we were going to be sitting in the bar for a family lunch and I would've cancelled the booking as it was a special occasion that was impacted by this whole scenario. However, food was nice and would return if it was in the restaurant.

Anyone who had this gem of a restaurant near them would consider themselves very lucky. It ticks ALL the boxes - great food, great (very friendly) service and an excellent location. And I love that it sells vegan options without screaming the word vegan - (some people find it off putting yet many will order a meat free dish and thoroughly enjoy it). Great food. Fantastic home made soups (a choice of 2), salads that I crave (big and substantial), amazing meat free ‘sausage’ rolls (made with sweet potato filling, bruschetta - flat breads. I could go on and on! But meat eaters worry not - plenty of that on offer. The staff are always lovely even though the place is very busy. Sitting inside or out or in the conservatory - it’s always good. Please please don’t change the menu too much! It’s perfect as it is!! Light and airy in the summer and cosy in the winter. Go there alone with a book or meet friends - it works either way. Oh I haven’t mentioned the delicious coffee and tray bakes! Just perfect
