Passing through Groomsport I gave this a try. Highly impressed with the quality of food. The decor is that of your average local cafe but the food is on a much higher level. Surprisingly good. Definitely be back.

Cottage Kitchen has reopened with a great takeaway and delivery service. The food is the usual fantastic standard and the menu contains all the usual standards. The breakfast is supplied as takeaway and is well served and piping hot even when you carry it home. The delivery service is exemplary and all that you need to do is pop it into the microwave. If you live in the catchment area then phone your order in and enjoy good food.

We called in here for coffee and scones and apart from not serving real butter, we were not disappointed. Two Americanos and 2 fruit scones cost £7.70 which we thought was good value. It was just a traditional cafe rather than a coffee shop but it was interesting because it had original art work by local artists on the walls and this was for sale. We probably would go back but we would like real butter for our scones.

We stopped off for a late lunch today. The food was good and the waitress who served us was lovely. There were only 3 tables occupied at the time. Having finished I went up and paid the bill and we walked out of the restaurant onto Groomsport Main Street. Seconds later the waitress I had just paid (not the lovely one) came out and shouted down the street "STOP, YOU HAVENT PAID YOUR BILL! I couldn't believe this as I had handed this girl my money not 30 seconds earlier, and thanked her for the lovely meal. She insisted I return into the restaurant, so I did, feeling like a criminal and surely looking like one to the folks coming in and out of the Spar next door and the other covers who witnessed this apparent citizen's arrest. I was led back up to the counter where the girl looked at the paid and unpaid covers before grudgingly admitting "you've paid the wrong bill" - she had given me the bill for one of the other 2 covers. I was expecting an apology from her or at least from the manager who was sitting next to the counter, but none was forthcoming. I was still shaking from the trauma of having been publicly accused of theft and demanded that an apology be made, at least so that the other patrons within earshot would know that I hadn't done a runner. I then received a petulant and insincere excuse for an apology from the waitress but, astonishingly, none from the manager - just a grunt to the effect that she had made a mistake! The waitress then informed me that I had underpaid my bill and demanded that I pay the difference. At this point I assumed that the manager, if he had had any interest in maintaining his businesses reputation, would have waived the collection of the deficit as some small token towards the hurt and embarrassment caused - but he didn't. Finally - a bit of advice to the manager. If you are going to put up posters in red letters warning your staff that the business is on a final warning with regard to waste disposal, do not put it where it can be clearly viewed by your customers as they go to and from the bathroom - it does nothing for client confidence I can assure you!

The staff took our orders promptly and they were very friendly. I ordered the triple club sandwich and when it came out I was amazed at the portion size! My parents and my friend ordered the all day fry up and there was soup and children's meals orders. There were empty plates all round and the food was absolutely delicious. This was a second visit. The first visit was enjoyable. The owner was there, the food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. This time 'WILL DEFINITELY BE THE LAST'...!!!When we went in, the owner wasn't there, the tables were not cleared, the staff, apart from one, couldn't be bothered. One in particular was grumpy and just stood and talked to someone, ignoring us as we tried to get her attention as the salt shaker was empty. In the end, the young girl who was doing all the work, changed it for us.The food was very poor and my friend had her plate lifted by the grumpy one before she had time to say that she wasn't finished. THEN ... to finish it all off, we sat and listened to the grumpy one vomiting for five to ten minutes whilst the other waitress was bringing food out to customers from the kitchen which appears to be opposite the toilet. I could smell the vomit and had to leave my friend to pay as it was making me feel sick. As I stood up to leave, the waitress who had been sick came out from the right hand side, kitchen on the left, with her face bright red, shook her hair and went straight back in behind the serving counter. According to my friend, the girl said to her, 'is she not paying for hers', then because it is 'cash only' in a world that is trying to go contactless payment, she got confused about the money.
