This is a place I went to for many years growing up and am keen to take my young family in turn when we visit the area. The food remains a very high standard and the cinnamon scones are as good as ever. Sadly we were disappointed to find no menu or options specifically for kids. Equally, the menu had a range of options for breakfast/brunch and lunch but it did not specify which were available. The waiter had to list the items that I could choose and which were only available for lunch (we went at 1030). I would visit again but perhaps not with young children.

I always try to be fair in my reviews and I accept The Bay Tree is very popular but I probably wouldn't return. We were there for lunch and were sitting quite close to the door. I found it quite cold and kept my coat on. The staff were very pleasant but they seemed quite distracted and kept forgetting things. Consequently the service could have been better. I chose a red pepper tart which was served with salad. The tart was nice but the salad consisted primarily of salad leaves with a little tomato - I felt it could have been more varied. I think I would hesitate before returning for lunch.

I wish I'd taken a photograph to show the appalling lack of food on my plate today in The Bay Tree. Two poached eggs (with added bonus of egg shell) and two miserly pieces of sourdough toast which were cold and slightly burnt so that the butter wouldn't spread. It's a busy, popular place but unfortunately I don't see the attraction. I won't be back.

I find the staff very pleasant and efficient and the food very tasty. Yesterday, we both had the beef with champ, it was absolutely delicious, the beef just melted in your mouth. Fantastic lunch, really enjoyed it and great value for money. Cinnamon scones are always a must here too as they really are the best I've ever tasted. I visited The Bay Tree today after travelling quite a long distance I don't live locally, it's is one of my favourite spots to eat it has great food, a relaxed atmosphere and good friendly service. Unfortunately today was a solo diners nightmare, I arrived right behind a group of four people who were seated immediately and offered menus immediately. I was left to stand a while and then I asked if it was alright to be seated. After waiting around ten minutes I popped up the main counter and asked if I could take a menu. There was my mistake "politeness" and being a solo female diner, the guy looked at me and asked if someone was joining me then asked if he could move me to another table to accommodate the next diners that arrived in. I wasn't greeted I certainly did not feel welcome and walked out feeling quite angry and annoyed. I've eaten solo at the Bay Tree over the years many times and sat at practically all the different tables which no bother always felt welcome and nothing was a problem. This has only happened to me once before in all of the years that I've ate out, it was a male server who did the exact same thing when I was younger. I should have stood my ground and kept my table! If this happens again please contact management and stand your ground. Keep your table! I won't be back after my experience I walked down the main Holywood street to their competitor was warmly welcomed and had a lovely lunch there instead.

We haven’t been to the Baytree for dinner in years. It didn’t disappoint. There was plenty of room between tables so you didn’t feel squished. The choice of small and large plates was fantastic. We struggled to choose so selected a different one each and then swapped. The flavours were amazing. William and staff were attentive but not so much that we felt uncomfortable. I’ll be back again soon with friends to try all the small plates.

What a disappointment to say the least!!! The venue was very chilly ( as was our previous time). When asked for carrot cake, it was unavailable. Because I showed my disappointment, I was told did I get out of bed the wrong side!!! How dare he.! When I asked for a replacement, he told me it was not delivered yet! His(the server) attitude was SO condescending, as it was on our last visit too, that we walked out. We will NOT be back, and I would advise all to stay away, and NOT support this venue. A much more warm and welcoming just down the road.

The results have invariably been pleasing and I have come to enjoy this place very much. Not only is the food good but the staff are friendly. Because of the floor plan it is difficult for a few staff members to keep track of everything that is going on, but to my delight they always managed it and we never had any problems getting their attention when we needed them, even at busy times. One of our party had let the staff know he had a garlic/onion intolerance at least 2 weeks prior to event. The room was very crowded with packed long tables and benches - and very noisy people next to us. Not the problem of the staff of course but if they had reduced their numbers attending it would have been a more pleasant experience. However no doubt they wanted to make as much money as possible! Five of us thought the meal was ok but nothing special as we had hoped for. The smoked mackerel served as a starter was over cooked and tough.

Cinnamon scones are to die for and it's worth coming in just for those. On other days I'd score it high for casual lunch with friends especially the salads and healthy options. Today I hoped the the beetroot and apple soup at early lunch time today would combine the best of the butternut and apple soup or the borsch in this cafe's recipe book- both are excellent. Sadly the beetroot and apple soup was inedible. Purple coloured pulp but no earthy beetroot flavour. Monotonous texture and taste of apple purée was far too sweet for soup. Perhaps apples are sweeter this year after the hot summer? "Telling the chef" may have improved seasoning for later diners but when a full bowl goes back to kitchen offering a take-away cup doesn't address the problem. Been coming her for decades, will stick to the scone in future.

I have been visiting the Bay Tree for years and always thoroughly enjoy it. Today I had an iced coffee and the usual cinnamon scone which were both absolutely lovely. However, my friend and I were served by an older lady and we were both shocked by how rude she was. Very unfriendly and grumpy towards us, perhaps because we are a bit younger but that is no excuse. As a part-time waitress myself, I would never interact with customers in such a rude way. I cannot usually fault the Bay Tree but today I was not as pleased as usual. However, it won’t stop me going back.

Called in here based on their famous cinnamon scones,so got one on route home from Bangor to take away. Off the main street and very popular spot as was busy, but pleasent service. Scone was £2, and although tasty was more like a Danish. It was yummy though.

Really good taste food and a viticulture view of the sea. They had cute little duck paintings on the wall and the toilets were really well kept which I know a lot places don’t so very happy about that

Usually queued out the door it's so popular. Food excellent, staff friendly and helpful and a place with real character and old world style.

Went here as the cafe has a lovely setting but it is let down badly as it is extremely overpriced. One of us had soup and half a sandwich - small bowl of soup which tasted just OK and a sandwich which has to be the smallest I have ever seen with very little filling! Total rip off for the price. There is also no choice for gluten free customers. Such a pity as the cafe is pleasant to sit in.
