Coffee not as good as previous visits - not as strong and too much milk. Fancy milk design on flat whites failed. Lasagna was good. Fish in nice batter with tasty tartar sauce and mushy peas. Chips were pretty really poor - to the point of burnt and soggy.

The bacon was salty the sausages were small but nice there were very few mushrooms, hash browns were nice and the beans and tomatoes were hot. As for the staff they were very miserable and ignorant.. I won't be bk

The Latte was just like hot milk, I couldn’t taste the coffee at all. I asked for another shot, which I was charged for, but it was still too weak. I drink a lot of latte in coffee shops but I’ve never had one this weak.

Went to this lovely little pub on Friday night for a couple of pints the staff were lovely the atmosphere was fun apart from one old cantankerous man who thought he new all the answers to the chase and was getting very upset with himself because he didn't know any of the questions apart from that lovely

The pub itself is an old fashioned building with many original features. The people are welcoming and can't do enough for you the toilets are very unique and modern especially the gents! There is 3 smoking areas to choose from and a large car park. Plenty of outdoor space.

Excellent Sunday lunch in here. I had pork belly with plenty of veg, roasties etc. Attentive staff and plenty of parking

Volunteer Arms is under new management and is coming back to how it was when I was younger. The boss has some good ideas to improve the arms in the future. If you like a quiet beer with friends then the arms is it.

Great pub with Live bands every week!!! Great atmosphere & lovely bubbly staff!!

All ok but it's like going back in time.

Lovely cafe. Stopped here for tea and cake after a walk. Staff were friendly, food and drinks were excellent. Definitely recommend if you are in the area.

Called in this place whilst visiting the area with my family. It was very clean and looked like it had just had a decor overhaul as It had a very pleasant on the eye. I ordered a breakfast, a chicken salad and a wrap for my son. All was very fresh and the servings were very generous. We would definitely visit this tasty establishment again😋

Second stay here. Lovely place. Very good quality room at a very good price. Staff obviously busy, it being Christmas period, but helpful. Room large and warm. Clean and tidy. Great looking location, outside courtyard is soooo Dickensian! Very photogenic. If you're looking for something different and quaint this is the place. Was easy to get to Yorkshire Wildlife park from there, also not far to York city, Sheffield centre etc. Well worth it.

Location is very attractive. Pub is a typical country-style, think 'The Woolpack'. I had the lasagne and tbh it LOOKED like it had been heated in a microwave before being placed in a pub dish. Chips? Looked like i had been given the dregs from the bottom of the pan - all very tiny probably about 2" long and less than 1" wide and I'm sorry to say, they were also dry. Garlic bread was nice(!). Saw the fish that others were eating and they looked amazing but i hate to say, I only ate about 1/2 of mine - sorry, it was not nice.

Two years ago we had a fantastic Christmas Day lunch at The Sutton Arms so we were keen to book again for Christmas Day 2024. What a difference and very disappointing. The canapés on the table looked as if they had been there for a fortnight and tasted the same. I ordered vodka and tomato juice. Ten minutes later we were told no tomato juice so I ordered a sherry. 15 minutes later we asked if our drinks were coming….and waited another 15 before they eventually arrived. The staff were unsmiling and the atmosphere generally was unfestive. My husband’s meal was good enough but I ordered beef and the meat was tough and cut in really thick slices. I was not asked if I needed any horseradish sauce. In fact our table was in the corner and not one staff member came to ask if we needed anything or were happy with our meals, though there were plenty of staff. I would describe the food as ordinary and that’s being kind. For the cost of £170 for two people a very overpriced and unpleasant experience. We won’t be booking next year.
