Thank you everyone for a fantastic experience on Sunday. What a wonderful place with great staff and fantastic fresh produce. Nice to see a traditional Sunday Lunch still being served in a fabulous village surroundings. Don’t ever change we will be back definitely!!

Booked for Sunday lunch today and feel quite disappointed. Two roast beef and two roast turkey. Can't believe that the beef served today came from freshly roasted joint in the Sutton arms kitchen or the turkey from a freshly roasted bird from the Sutton arms kitchen. The shared veg came from a frozen catering pack, other stuff Yorkshire puds, mash and roast potatoes might, I say might have been freshly made however I wouldn't bet on it.A roast Sunday lunch in a country pub needs to be properly made not put together from various catering packages and mass catering suppliers. If I'm wrong please invite me into your kitchen on a future Sunday so I can see how the Sunday roast is created and I'll retract my review. Anyway this isn't a good value decent quality Sunday lunch, it's at best ok any five star reviewers clearly don't eat out much. Staff excellent though.

We called in for lunch on Saturday. Busy with only 2 staff (very pleasant young man and young lady) who did exceptionally well to keep the job going professionally under pressure. We had a bit of a wait but worth it. When we commented that they seemed short staffed they cheerfully replied “no, it’s normal!”. Well done, but another time the wait might be cause for a complaint which would be the fault of management, not the staff? Food up to standard.

We visit this place very regularly, making a 36 mile round trip. And it it worth every mile we travel! We have had lunch , Sunday lunch , evening meal, and attended a party here. Never been disappointed. The food is always freshly prepared, and certainly plenty. I don’t eat potatoes, and I am always offered an alternative should I wish. My husband …. Mostly has the Him steak pie, and it is amazing! So much tender steak under a lovely light and crispy pie topping. I tend to try different dishes, and I have never been disappointed, but if I was I would feel comfortable approaching the staff, who are helpful, very pleasant and efficient. And they always look tidy. Nicola, one of the staff always remembers my husband’s order when we arrive 😂 The dining area is large with a choice of different types of tables. There is also a large covered outdoor area , which appears to get a lot of use with functions, ie christenings. We have booked for Christmas Day and we know we won’t be disappointed. This pub is a gem, five minutes from the M180, and you would do well to break your journey to enjoy the fare on offer.

Dropped in for some dinner with the grand kids, service was quick friendly and efficient food was absolutely amazing, as my 7 year old grandson went to see the chef to tell him his food was banging 😊, well worth a visit we will be back as I need to eat the whole menu

We used to visit the Sutton Arms on a regular basis up to a few years ago but due to family bereavements we have not attended for approx 6 years but we thought we would give it a try for old times sake. Unfortunately we will not be returning………. There were 3 adults and one child (4 years old) We ordered garlic bread @ £2.95 and a selection of vegetables £2.95 for our child and the adults ordered 1) Mrs pie 2) gammon 3) fish and chips. We received ‘one’ small piece of garlic bread and the vegetables turned out to be salad (cucumber, tomato and peppers). The pie was decent but the veg was very hard and the fish batter was soft and very greasy………the gammon however was good. This was no better than you get at a ‘chain’ pub and the price including two halves of lemonade and a pint of lager was over £70. On top of that we were never asked if everything was OK during our visit. Sorry but it will be ‘Bird in the Barley’ from now on (unfortunately closed on a Monday)

Scawby is pretty near to our hotel and we thought a nice Sunday pub lunch today. My wife loves Sunday Roast. We squeezed in - just - and I got the impression it was pretty much fully booked. My wife doesnt manage big portions and they kindly gave her a smaller Sunday Roast and this is what she got but it was enormous. My homemade tomato soup was excellent and my cauliflower wings nicely spicy and beautifully presented. Definitely one for coming back to

Chaos, very overpriced, poor service, raw veg, awful flat beer. Won't be going back. Really disappointed with what used to be my good local pub with decent home cooked food

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to all the staff at Sutton Arms last night for hosting 19 of us for a retirement do. I was a bit nervous during the week as I hadn't heard back from them after sending through our pre order but when I spoke to them early on the day they reassured me and we're even happy to add an extra person last minute. The staff were super friendly and very efficient. The food all came out together and was all correct, and it was delicious too! They were attentive with sorting desserts for everyone too and making sure everyone had what they needed. We had an excellent evening. Thank you to everyone.

Visited this venue a couple months ago and the food was okay. The waitress took our order and didn’t write it down. When the food came out my order was wrong so I had to wait for mine whilst everyone ate. Not ideal. We visited again for Sunday lunch recently. I was really disappointed with the food, it was bland and vegetables were hard. The service was also disappointing. We were left with our finished meals for nearly an hour without plates being removed or offered pudding. In the end we walked to the bar to pay which also required a wait as the lady was unable to work the machine. I won’t be returning to this restaurant again.

The first pub meal we’ve had for a very long time, family ages range from 4 to over 70 and we all enjoyed the food. Curry, beef, fish and lasagne, we all had something different and we all enjoyed it very much. The atmosphere was great and just as we remembered. It was busy but not too crowded, it felt very safe and comfortable. The service was excellent & so was the Malteser dessert

Last meal out before lockdown again. I ordered pasta arabiatta with chorizo and chicken. Unfortunately it contained no chorizo, the chicken was over done and chewy and the sauce was mild with no arrabbiata kick. Disappointing really

Been a few times now. Always good. 3 decent hand pulls on. Great menu choice. Food came in good time. Had 3 courses all great. Bit cold in the bar. Normally well toasty with the fire lit. Well worth a visit.

I have not been in this pub for a a number of years and I was pleasantly surprised. Food menu was a bit more a la carte than the usual pub grub and tasted delicious. All covid measures were in place and met. Staff were very friendly and I was made to feel very comfortable. Looking forward to returning! Thank you for a lovely lunch.

Went out for a catch up meal with partners son and girlfriend. All Covid measures in place. Very friendly and helpful staff. Was given honest advice and opinion when asked about dishes. I had the belly pork, this came out in good time, presentation very good and full of flavour. We also had gammon, lasagne and carbonara. Compliment to the chef on 4 fine dishes. Tempted by the puddings, we had, homemade bake well tart, lemon roulade & sticky toffee pudding. Price was very good. Food excellent. Highly recommended

Leanne and colleagues work hard to ensure that a welcome, the service and food are of a constant high standard and well run in difficult circumstances complying with Covid regulations.

We needed a charge to continue our journey overnight, and this pub showed up as an option on the Polar network (you do have to pay for charging). So we stopped, parked up, set off the charging and decided to look at the menu. The pub was very Covid safe in terms of distancing, and one way systems alongside lots of sanister in use (and they cleaned tables between guests).The food was excellent -> particularly the Pie "his" pie. The ale was also fresh, very well kept, and the staff helpfully reccomended a ale that I had never tried before.I would highly reccomend anyone charging their car to try the home-made Pie selection and to allow enough time to go. My wifes steak was excellent, but she regretted not having the Pie. Next time we will also try the dessert having seen others going, but we had to leave to get to our overnight stop at the nearby Hilton.

We went here for an evening meal with all the family and I have a large family with lots of children with individual needs. I must say the food was fantastic, great portion sizes and extremely yummy. I also need to add that the customer service from the staff was excellent, nothing was too much trouble, they made smaller portions of dishes for the children which were on the adults menu, brought out little finger bowls for the kids and were very tentative always checking on us and seeing if we needed anything else. it was a relaxing atmosphere and very clean and tidy.This was our first visit but definitely wont be our last. Thankyou x

Absolutely fantastic food, home cooked good atmosphere. The pies are huge, don’t eat in the day if you’re visiting for dinner save your appetite 😂.

Nice afternoon tea with good selection of sandwich fillings. Just the right combination of sweet and savoury. Good to have other options of drinks apart from tea or coffee. Attentive and friendly staff. Good COVID precautions in place. Would definitely recommend.

Firstly the layout for the current COVID restrictions were easy to follow and we were swiftly seated with plenty of space around us for social distancing, The four of us all enjoyed our lovely meals from starters to puddings there was clean plates all round, all the staff were great especially in these different times and a special thanks you to Nicola as anything we asked was never any trouble for her to help. Thanks again, we will certainly be back

Who are these people writing these great reviews. Sunday lunch today. Roast turkey/Chicken Ceasar salad. Turkey ok, veg and roasties(tasted like frozen ?) Chicken Ceasar salad. Very small portion. ELEVEN £s per plate! You are paying post Covid-19 prices. Your choice.

We had the Fish and Chips and the Vegetarian Lasagne. The meals were hot; the chips were thick as described and the batter on the fish was just right. The goat's cheese in the lasagne created a good flavour and the tomato sauce was rich and tasty. Service was efficient and friendly.

We were staying in a nearby hotel but didn't want to eat there so looked on TripAdvisor for good places to eat locally and this place popped up.It was a pretty jam packed saturday night and I think we were lucky to get a table.The atmosphere was nice and the food was very good and filling. I had the veg lasagne which was delicious and the chips were yummy too (tasted like proper chip shop chips!),

Really nice food with great service and friendly staff, we arrived just after they had finished serving food, but the assistant manager (nicola) still squeezed us in :)

Minor hiccup with the booking when we got there but didn't put the staff off their stride. We were soon accommodated and as always the food was excellent. The two young waiters tonight went out of their way to attend to our party and nothing was too much for them. Absolutely fabulous service and this is now our go-to restaurant for all of our family outings. We will definitely be back

We have been here a few timeline as our children are vegetarian and the Sutton arms offers a great choice for them. Our meal tonight was excellent as always. My husband had a steak as normal. He was very happy with the cooking of it. Never had a bad meal here. We will be back soon

Staffed by ignorant bar staff. Our table was booked, we stood at the bar waiting to be acknowledged, I could see the bar staff were busy, but not looking up and acknowledging us was rude and certainly not good training. We along with two other gentlemen just stood there until somebody condescend to finally speak to us !Surely your customers are an important, as without them you do not have a job.Food okay but what a bad experience.

Good wholesome pub food. We both had the steak pie and chips. It arrived quickly and was piping hot. Sat at a table that was set....only to be asked to move as it was reserved. A little ‘reserved’ sign on the table would have prevented this! Only a minor negative and would recommend it for good beer and good food.

Visited for the first time for the new years eve 3 course meal and entertainment with friends in a packed pub and restaurant. The staff were all welcoming upon arrival and helpful which carried on throughout the evening. As to the meal itself my starter basically consisted of small pieces of cold chicken with a small amount of garnish and sauce, quite poor really, although the other three starters of tiger prawns looked and apparently tasted very nice. My fault for picking the wrong starter. I had lamb for my main which was excellent although the vegetables showed a complete imbalance with lots of cauliflower and little else. The sweet consisted of a very tasty egg custard, but again only a very small portion for the cost of the meal. The food was well cooked and with a little more care and attention over the starter, sweet and vegetables could have been very good. The entertainment was good and the atmosphere very good.So all in all a mixed review which summed up the meal.

Day 2 of the Christmas holidays and much better experience than the first (not at The Sutton Arms). We pre-ordered our meals and they came together and were well presented and hot. One niggle might be that my lamb came with gravy already in place but I blame myself as I could have specified when we sent in our choices.The portion size was perfect and vegetables or salad (dependent on meal choice) were great.Puddings arrive promptly after the plates from our mains had been cleared. Again portions and presentation splendid. It was busy enough that there could have been slip ups but the staff were marshalled by an excellent manager.Would certainly recommend this place if you are ever in the vicinity of North Lincolnshire. Bravo!

Group of 20 booked in for Christmas meal. The pub itself is pleasant. We were in the conservatory and it was a little tight for space. I had traditional turkey dinner. Turkey was ok but stuffing sloppy and pig in blanket tiny and tasteless. Main disappointment was the mixed veg which were warm but not hot and consisted of 90% sprouts. So if you don’t like sprouts don’t go.

Excellent service, excellent food, they go above and beyond to ensure everything is satisfactory, I didn’t fancy anything off the dessert menu so the landlady made me a fantastic cheeseboard ❤️🙏 GORGEOUS ❤️ Thank you can definitely recommend ❤️

20 plus of us arrived to see plenty of other diners there - no problem Sutton Arms is spacious yet has a warm homely feel. We were all seated together, bought drinks with hardly a wait.

Very well looked after prior to event. Lynn was very good at working through the details and did have flexibility with regards food and numbers. Food itself was excellent and I would like to thank all involved for making what was a very sad day in to a comfortable one at the end.

Period premises that are very attractive externally and internally. Black pudding and apple scotch egg to start with was full of flavour- never had apple with any scotch egg before. Bobs steak pies are apparently entering legendary status in the local area ?? - available in 2 sizes- It was excellent. The accompanying triple cooked chunky chips were an indulgence for sure. Extensive menu for a pub with some different dishes . More gastro pub than regular pub food. Vegetarian and vegan dishes on the menu. Efficent and friendly service.

Popped in for a meal on Sunday. I ordered the 'Pork Chop with Goose Fat Roast Potatoes'. When the pork chop turned up I asked when the roast potatoes were coming out and was informed that they were under my pork chop. Indeed they were, all 3 of them. Well, 2.5 as one was so small it didn't really qualify as a whole one.

Love this pub. Such a warm friendly atmosphere. Nothing too much trouble, the staff go out of their way. The food is amazing too and plenty of Gluten Free options which are clearly marked on the menu.

Called here for a lunch break while travelling to Hull.

We have used the Sutton arms many time before and we enjoy eating there. We had friends visiting and we booked a table at in the evening and we were not disappoint. The meal and service were first class. We will be going again soon

We have visited The Sutton Arms many times over the years but I have never written a review. After an excellent meal there last week I felt I ought to put finger to iPad especially after reading some of the negative comments from other contributors. We have eaten at The Sutton Arms on several occasions since it as been in the hands of the current owner and every meal has been of the highest quality, better than the average pub grub

Ordered the rack of ribs, big mistake; they was chewy, gristly and could not eat. didn't offer me an alternative or a refund although the staff was very friendly.

I use to love the Sutton arms for its food and it was just a lovely place to go so I decided to celebrate our engagement meal there as it was one of my fave places.

Over the years, I’ve visited The Sutton Arms with family, work, my boyfriend and friends several times. It’s my go to place for some quick, tasty home cooked food and I have always enjoyed the chicken curry in particular.

Once again the good and service were excellent. Went on a Monday night and it wAs surprisingly busy - chose halibut in a prawn sauce and new potatoes it was lovely and finished off with a chocolate brownie and ice cream.

Came for a good steak and I must say it was cooked just how I like it ! Rare and came rare , tender and juicy , not one fault with it ! Would recommend this place , staff are lovely and hats off too the chefs , great job , walked away a happy customer.

This pub was very busy (it was Friday evening) so probably best to book. The service and the prices were fine. The atmosphere was congenial. Perhaps I was unlucky with my choice of food (a chicken special) as it was tasteless, as were the vegetables. My partner was very pleased with his food. The cheese board I had afterwards was excellent.

First time visiting this pub, after reading good reviews of the place we thought we would give it a go. My husband has coeliac so gluten free is a must they had a few gluten free dishes and desserts on their menu . Staff were very welcoming and the pub had a nice atmosphere and well decorated with comfy seating, my husband had the gluten free chicken curry with half rice and gluten free chips , I had the steak and ale pie both dishes were well presented and had lovely flavours the beef in the pie was so tender it fell apart compliments to the chef best pie I have tasted in a long time. I must say my husband was pleased with his curry also. Onto desserts bit pricey compared to other places I have eat in I ordered the bake well slice with ice cream and my husband had the banana split ,only criticism we had was the presentation of the banana split it was basically banana cut in half on a plate not in a banana boat as expected with 1 scoop of ice cream and chocolate sauce drizzled over it not how a banana split should look like disappointing for the price paid. We definitely will be visiting again and would recommend others to try.

Been a few times for a drink on a date. Not to happy this last time been with same person on a date and the bar staff eyeing my date up and asking if he was with me with me. Bit Embarrassing to say the least. Don't expect to go for a drink n bar staff trying to steal your date off you not very professional at all, and a way to loose trade very fast too. Makes me very uneasy for me to go back in for a drink again.

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at the Sutton Arms on a Sunday lunchtime.

I have just eaten here with my parents. I had the fish and chips with were very tasty. They were also happy to skin the fish which is great.

Called in as passing nearby. Good welcome & we were seated immediately quickly followed by menus & offer to get drinks. which we enjoyed whilst waiting for food to be prepared. Presentation of meals was attractive & the home cooked food was very tasty indeed we finished with four clean plates. Could not resist the home cooked deserts which were also well presented & delicious too. This eatery is well worth a visit if you like good food with generous portions & pleasant service.

Four of us ate here on a Monday lunch, we all had different meals and they were all great. Really tasty, looked good on the plate and prompt service. The pub has a really nice atmosphere. It's good to find a country pub open on a Monday lunch with a good few people in too. We will definitely be back.

Nice food and good service. We had the Lincolnshire sausage and Grimsby haddock and chips and they were both tasty. Pretty quiet pub when we were there but I’m sure it does get busy as there isn’t much competition very close by.

This place is a bit of a family favourite. You can always be assured of a warm welcome and good food and this visit was no exception. Also a varied and fairly priced wine and drinks list. Great pub.

Came to the Sutton arms in middle of January for a goodbye meal, despite being a large group of us and all ordering off the full menu. The food was cooked to perfection all round, portions generous and all in all a good experience, I can never fault the Sutton arms

We held my husband's 50th Birthday Party here for 35 people The function room is lovely. We had homemade steak pie, homemade chips and peas. The food is lovely. Leann and all her staff were great and very helpful. The party was excellent and a huge success. I would highly recommend the Sutton Arms. Thank you Leann.

Thank you to everyone at The Sutton Arms. We attended a company farewell meal, table of 21. Food and Service was exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. Eight of us came here for a family get together the friday after xmas. Havent been here in over 6 years and it is still a lovely pub...more of an old fashioned type pub..a proper pub as i would call it!! We had a lovely table by the fire ..which was lit..always makes a nice atmosphere. the menu was a more restricted one to normal which we expected with it been xmas but we could all find something we wanted...plus they also had a specials board. The black pudding bon bon starter is a great choice and nice for two to share as me and my husband did. My brothers girlfiend had the whitebait starter special which she said was lovely. When it came to mains 3 people had the lasagne which i have to say didnt get a great review ...looked like it had been made a while ago and nothing to special. However on the positive side two of us had the blade of beef which just melted in your mouth!! Delicious!! Also the belly pork was given a huge thumbs up we didnt all have a dessert but they were good but nothing outstanding. The service was excellent and for the price you really cant go wrong. Would like to mention that a couple of plates and dishes were chipped which isnt that great presentation wise and really needs addressing. But all it all a good night.

Great service for a party of 10, the food was all served together and was all hot. The traditional Christmas turkey dinner was a bit bland and although there were plenty of veggies they were very bland, boiled/ steamed cauliflower, carrots, swede, parsnips. The starters and desserts were ok but nothing special. The Hers Steak Pie got good reviews and the chips looked nice.

Homely atmosphere, very helpful staff. Great food. Will highly recommend due to having eaten there several times and always been very good, hot and didn't have to wait long for food despite it being cooked fresh. Looking forward to the next visit.

Having booked San Pietro for Monday Birthday lunch, arriving at San Pietro to be told it's closed on a Monday (how had we managed to book it on Open Table?) then realising we had booked San Pietro in New York not Scunthorpe; where could we go to eat?

Substantial mans, more gentile ladies steak pie. Beautiful chunky pieces of meat with a very tasty gravy in nice surroundings with pleasant helpful staff.

Food cooked to order - fresh quality ingredients. Presented well on plate. Staff were delightful. All very reasonably priced. Dog friendly in bar area.

I recently visited The Sutton Arms with other members of my family,including a toddler. We were looked after really well, and did not have long to wait for our food. We had a selection of tasty starters, followed by delicious main courses, which even the toddler enjoyed.He had a pasta meal and garlic bread which seemed to make a nice change from the fish fingers on offer at other places, though there was fish goujons on the toddler menu too. The main meals we chose included pies served with very fresh vegetables, gammon, and salad.All were enjoyable, and the home made onion rings.It was difficult to decide what to chose as the menu is extensive. Not many of us could manage dessert but the couple that were eaten by our party looked good.

Superb village pub that serves super food in a lovely atmosphere. Very varied menu with the addition of an extensive specials board. Generous portions are served by friendly staff and a good selection of beers etc is available.

Myself and a friend were visiting from Birmingham and found this pub on TripAdvisor. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the food was great! I would definitely go back if I was ever in the area again.

We’ve been coming for occasional meals for the past 5 years and the food quality has never failed us.. The menu is extensive and varied, and the prices are very reasonable. The food is excellent and quickly served with generous portions. It is always a delightful experience, it seems an extremely well run business and is friendly with a professional touch. Visited as a party of 5 for dads birthday. Travelled 50 miles round trip on recommendation! Enjoyed every minute of it and the food was brilliant. Well done team, just what the hospitality industry needs!

Recent family meal out for 6, table booked for 6.00pm. Menu catered for all tastes within our group and 5 out of the 6 meals were excellent however the pork cooked 3 ways (ordered after being told no duck left) was dry and my brother couldn't eat it. The waitress said she'd inform the kitchen but nothing came from it. We asked for the dessert menu however, after waiting for 20 / 25 minutes we gave up and asked for the bill. Shame really because on the whole, it was all pretty good; nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Unclear why there were delays as it wasn't full and didn't appear particularly busy. We will go again, the pie is pretty amazing, we just won't order the pork!

Beautiful meal tonight! Both stakes cooked to perfection! The set out of the food was perfect and the service was perfect! Definitely will be coming back!! Pudding was perfect! No issues! The food tasted so fresh and perfect! Absolutely fantastic 😌

Steak & ale pie is one of the best I've eaten. Large so go for the 'Hers' if you are not a guzzler. The peppered pork steak was tender & taste and comes with all the trimmings. Onion rings amazing. Wine good. All reasonably priced, service pleasant though they were not busy. Looks small from outside but it has plenty of dining space. Large car park.

What a good find. The food was delicious, I had the pub's pie and I didn't regret it! I found the portions large and had no room for a dessert. Nice atmosphere too, friendly and relaxed. I recommend it.

Just called in without booking and were quickly seated, they have lots of staff who are all friendly and attentive. The menu was varied, we chose the roast, which was lovely and hot, then had dessert, again lots of choice. The service was fast and efficient, overall very pleased and will definitely go again

we've been here 3 times all with big gaps between as our first visit was awful so took us a while to come back.. Next visit was OK nothing special.. Been again today and meal was really nice.. We will visit again

We took our two grand daughters for an evening meal and thoroughly enjoyed our food. Youngest eat from the kids menu and the adults from the specials board. Great food and service.

This is a great little place that can get busy at time's so it is worth phoning up to make sure they can cater for you.

We have dined several times in the last few years and had pretty ( not exceptional} service in the past but not bad as we kept going until this time. We arrived about 7pm on a Friday night and asked for a table for two. We was shown to one away from the main diners next to the door. The table was old no table cloth or place mats and had seen better days. I ordered the £12 pie which when all well and done is a pie.Taste was good but too salty but a ok pie for a not a ok price.

Ancholme Rowing Club would like to thank the Sutton Arms for providing a delicious, plentiful buffet, well stocked bar and friendly efficient service at our 150th Anniversary Celebration party last Saturday. We can definitely recommend the Sutton Arms if you're looking for party catering and good service. Thank you.

Staying nearby on business, Lovely Country Pub, Reasonably busy for a Tuesday Evening, Easy to find, huge car park, outdoor seating area, all areas look well cared for and clean. Inside the pub very tastefully decorated and once again exceptionally clean. We were immediately made to feel welcome, and drinks soon ordered and menus in our hand. We both chose steak, not the best steak i have ever had, just slightly on the chewy side, however it was quality you could tell, the chips were stunning and so were the onion rings, mushrooms proper large button and well cooked, superb peas, overall a very pleasant meal, service was good, just maybe could have done with topping our drinks up a little more often, however as soon as we were at the bar they refilled immediately. Would visit again maybe not have a steak unless they had a wow steak on the menu, think i would try a pie, i have heard they are excellent upon talking to regulars in the outside garden area.

Visited as a foursome to celebrate a birthday. Importantly one coeliac/gluten free diet and one fat or low fat diet so flexibility and care are as important as the food and location.

Was passing through and had a nice meal in here, friendly and helpful staff. Relaxed atmosphere and the food was tasty, if I was passing I would definitely eat there again. Highly recommended
