We stayed at the rooms and enjoyed the 8 course tasting menu. The food was prepared with great skill and attention to detail. Everything was very tasty and the wine matches were interesting. The staff and chef were very knowledgeable and passionate about the food and service. No liquid nitrogen or gimmicks just well cooked and presented food.

We had no booking but were made welcome for an early lunch of soup. Crab soup tasted nice but had shell in it. The bread was supposed to be sourdough but was an unusual white bread with caraway seed in it. This is an acquired tasted which I haven't acquired so the waitrose exchanged it for some French bread. I was surprised to be charged £4.50 extra for this. I had not been told I would be charged and was lead to believe it was a straight exchange. The lady at the till was not to be budged so I paid, but it left, together with the 'sourdough', a rather bitter taste. A shame as I had heard good things but came away underwhelmed and vaguely annoyed. But a nice setting etc.

After numerous trial and errors we decided to try here as Stroud WAS CLOSED ON A MONDAY . Many places seemed to be just vegan or one place at 1300 hrs had no bacon for a sarnie . The very large undercover food hall was only partially open , no customers and bizarre selections. The only pub we found The Retreat was empty and only did burger and chips. So we decided to leave. Our last resort was 15. Very little choice. Service very good ,but that's it .

While the decor is quirky and rustic, the service remains really bad, a wait of 25 minutes for the food plus the drinks, despite arriving 10 minutes after opening and ordering promptly. The staff seem to be unconcerned and unapologetic, as always, and we were hopeful things had improved but sadly not so.

As well as the tempting cakes, bread and delicious mince pies in the shop downstairs, the cafe upstairs is a lovely place for brunch. Some really delicious items on the menu and very friendly, efficient service. There’s often an art exhibition on too, currently amazing artworks by local artist, Andy Walker.

I arranged to meet a friend in the cafe for coffee and a catch up we arrived at around 10.30 only to find a handful of tables available as all the others were reserved. We ordered our drinks and a tea cake each took a seat waited 20 mins for 2 coffees and 2 tea cakes to then be told the table we were sitting at was needed at 11:30 for someone else. Had we realised you needed to book to have a coffee we would have gone elsewhere, several other people were annoyed as they had shopped in the garden centre then decided on having a coffee but left due to table having reserved on them. Quite a lot of lost revenue for you company Safe to say we won’t be using them again
