where to start! What a welcoming, warm establishment. I have drunk and eaten here on multiple occasions and can only say that the staff, the food, the atmosphere and the events that The Hog hold are the best in the area. This is a must visit location. Thanks Team Hog

Had quite few visits this year visiting my mum in nursing home who used live just down the road in next village. What a superb pub. So friendly. Love the Saturday nights with food trucks and great music. Good atmosphere. Used to occasionally visit over the last 30 years or so but current owner have got it spot on! Well worth 200 mile drive from Lancaster!

We recently went for the first time since having our baby for one of the pop up nights. We asked for a high chair and they said we could find one outside. They were honestly awful - clearly left outside to the elements, they were filthy and old and none of them matched so they were clearly an after thought. Ikea high chairs are so cheap - how difficult is it to have a few on hand and kept inside for guests with young children? We had to leave, I wouldn’t put my baby in one of those. Such a shame, especially as they have a kids menu so clearly market themselves as being family friendly.

Came in for dinner whilst camping up the road and having this place recommended to us. It didn't disappoint. It's a proper local as local pubs used to be. The staff are lovely. Food was delicious (particularly the fresh pizzas) and came out quickly. Prices were quite cheap for fresh food in a pub (two mains with drinks came to £30). Although we didn't use them, there were a selection of board games up on the shelf which was a nice touch. Toilets were clean. The pub is also handily situated next to a small free car park. If I were a local I'd be in here all the time.

Having completed a circular walk that started and ended in Horsley, we thought we would pop into the local hostelry as a reward at the end of our travails. And what a joy it was! The welcome was friendly, the Moretti was cold, and the (assumed) regulars seemed to be chatty and sociable. We started in the garden but then rain threatened (wrongly, as it turned out) so we took our second drink inside: a lovely choice of places to sit, some very "loungey"; we picked a table by the window where we found a huge array of box games to select and play! We will most definitely be returning to this place, not least because we now have four stamps on our loyalty card towards a free pizza or pint!

I don’t often write reviews but The Hog is such a fantastic pub, it had to be done! We went in yesterday evening (our first visit) and were well impressed. I’m into my beers and there was great selection of well kept real ales and craft beer (only 3 stamps to go on my loyalty card so will be back soon for the free pizza 😋), the staff were all really friendly and a nice atmosphere too. Affordable food (a rare thing in pubs now) and what we had was spot on (chips topped with chilli and humous with flatbread). Lots of outdoor seating to enjoy the sun (or shade) and we also enjoyed the tunes inside as it was vinyl night. It’s a really nice walk to/from Nailsworth (via Ruskin Mill area) which was another bonus. In summary, it’s a must visit pub and we will be back!

In my final weeks living in the Cirencester area, my girlfriend and I decided to travel around to places that we had never been locally as well as re-visiting areas we knew well but had not properly exploded. The village of Horsley in the Stroud area was a new exploration (although we had been in and around Stroud many times before). Given that the village and my girlfriend share the same surname it was a must. During our travels around the Cotswolds, we have visited plenty of pubs, cafes, and eateries. Many of these are perhaps best left for those who frequent and enjoy them so much - the locals. Indeed many are somewhat unfriendly to a stranger’s face we have found; while we find this most amusing knowing that our meer fresh-faced company is a curse, it does not inspire one to return. The Hog at Horsley is not one of these establishments. Indeed, it is the friendliest place of hospitality that we visited along our jaunts, being cheerfully welcomed and not stared down by suspicious locals, although many locals were in on this rainy Sunday afternoon, as we could tell by the fact the barman seemingly knew them all by name - a delight in today’s society of strangers. We drank cider and ate from what, although somewhat limited, is a very modern, well presented, refreshingly simple, hearty, and filling menu. We would have left wanting for me if we weren’t so full from sharing a pizza and some vegetarian chilli chips (sadly the meat option wasn’t available, as we were kindly informed before ordering - but were told there was plenty of the vegetarian option. It suited us fine). I have rated the Hog at Horsley four stars, only for the reason that I personally find it a shame not to get a proper Sunday lunch in an English pub on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Although the Hog offers meaty rolls as a substitute for their inability (or perhaps unashamed unwillingness) there were none left by the time we arrived and ordered food. Despite this, the food we had was first class and filling, without much waste. It was flavourful and well cooked, and you felt that you received value for money. The cider we drank was refreshing after our day walking around the Cotswolds in the rain and we could have easily drank a lot more of it. We look forward to returning to the Hog at Horsley again one day, where we hope we will not be too late to grab ourselves a meaty Sunday roll. The pub is vibrant, modern, family friendly, and there was a real sense of community atmosphere when we visited. We highly recommend, and have few doubts that had we been able to have a proper Sunday lunch (or meaty roll - they advertise quite clearly they do not serve a full roast dinner) that we would have rated it five stars.

What an amazing village pub, as people not from the area as visiting for the horse racing we were made to feel very welcome. During our week in the area we visited three times and just love the environment of the pub featuring great background music. The food was great the small menu allows for the food to be cooked fresh and taste great. The hog pizza was my person favourite. The quiz night held once a month was so fun with the owner taking up the mic and being our jolly quiz master. The pub is just a short walk from the air BnB / house we had rented and I recommend anyone who visits the area to come to this great pub. Thank you to all the staff for making our week so lovely.

We were staying at an Air BNB down in Washpool, literally down the hill. On arrival we thought we'd check out the local pubs, on arrival Luke and Christian made us feel so welcome. A great locals pub, but they make holidayers feel local, and very welcome too. We were in the area for 3 days and visited the pub each day. It's warm and welcoming, reasonably priced and the food is what you need when you're in for a couple or spending the day watching rugby. They had a great set up for the 6 nations (but if sport isn't your thing it didn't dominate either), family friendly, dog friendly and just the kindest guys. We'll be back (if you'll have us...)!

Small ambient pub in the lovely village of Horsley. Really cosy, well kept and something for everyone (books for children, 6 nations on etc). Sizeable beer garden for when the weather improves. Small snack type menu but it’s what we were expecting as per website. Everything was tasty and cooked well, I had the ham, brie and chilli jam pizza. Really friendly staff. Impeccably clean toilets (odd thing to note but always reassuring to see !). They do pop up nights for different foods, I believe their kitchen is very small so it’s lovely to see them offer some variety etc given constraints.

We decided to go out for a meal on my wife's birthday and invited our teenage granddaughter. This seemed like a good idea for a social occasion so we then invited two of our children and partners plus two grandsons. Our other daughter has been in Australia for twenty odd years so we took her photograph along to adorn the table! We rang the Hog several times gradually increasing the numbers from two initially, then three, then five and eventually nine. Each time we rang we were greeted by a cheerful member of staff who assured us that it was no trouble. A few hours before we left, they rang to say that due to a hitch over the August Bank Holiday, they could not serve alcohol on that evening as their licence had not come through in time but we could bring our own and corkage would cost nothing. When we got there, the atmosphere was buzzing as always and everyone there was enjoying their meals. We had a selection of dishes from the always excellent menu and everyone was very happy. You always feel happy in the Hog because of the friendly service and welcome. The various excellent dishes on the menu and specials board are always beautifully presented and extremely tasty. Our choices ranged from fish dishes, pork belly, burgers and chicken all of which were very good, We had a wonderful birthday party..

It was one of those occasions when we were too tired to cook for ourselves and wanted a simple, wholesome meal out. We both ordered hake and it was delicious. The beer was good too. Not much more to say really

We had a family lunch on Sunday sitting in the sunshine outside. The pub was full of walkers and locals and the new menu worked well for us: fish pie with a runny poached egg on the side was best choice. Decent selection of beer

Great lunch had by all. Homemade chicken Kiev was delicious, fish pie with lots of varieties of fish and s perfect poached egg and the haloumi salad didn’t skimp. Garden was a sun trap and all the staff were lovely. Definitely recommend this pub.

Went with my partner and 2 children, some time ago now, but it seems that they haven’t got any better. My daughter, who is vegetarian, found bacon in her vegetable soup, and they didn’t believe us until they took it away and looked at it themselves. They then said we could have free coffee and a liqueur! Not surprisingly my daughter refused liqueur! And were very worried about our comments on trip advisor!! But no real apology. Very poor attitude.

I stayed 2 nights in one of The Hog's' 2 B&B; rooms. My room was larger than expected with a clean, modern look and a spacious en-suite. The room opened onto a Juliet balcony that overlooked the neighbouring churchyard that made eating the supplied continental breakfasts a morning treat as I eased into the day. I only had one meal in the restaurant below, the Hog Burger, which was very good. The local craft brews were also very well received.

A friendly evening with good food. We enjoyed the breadth of vegetarian options. Halloumi starter was delicious, and the fish pie was very good if the side greens could be served hotter. The fish and chips good as ever with homemade tartare sauce. Friendly management gave us a warm welcome.

We were directed here by our origional booking as their chef had gone off sick, wish we had made our own decision. It was fairly busy on arrival but not so much that a well run establishment could cope with. The staff are young and felt they were new to their job, they did not know the table numbers so our bill at the end had to be examined and items taken off that we did not order. They had run out of one type of beer which took then 20mins to let us know, the bottle of wine we ordered took half an hour to arrive at our table and was warm and not come from a chilled cabinet and we had to ask for ice to chill it. After taking our order it took a while for the waitress to come back to us to say one of the starters was not available. When the food did arrive it was ok but served on a plate in a way that it was not ie: poached egg with the fish pie and the belly pork was served with "Raita" which was a strange combination and pimping the plates to make it something it was not. My sister in-law had the Greek salad and felt it was a bit gritty and the lettuce had not been washed properly. The menu was photocopied which is ok but a bit crumpled and marks on it from too many looking at it and did not feel very hygienic. Not much to choose from on the menu so what you order should be available. The Manager needs to get a grip on running the pub in many aspects or the village could loose this facility.

Nice enough interior if they'd tidied it a bit. Service friendly. Smell of fat from kitchen area quite noticeable. Forty minute wait was acceptable as food freshly cooked... unfortunately standard of meal wasn't that great. Good tastes but way too greasy, although to be fair it was a chicken Kiev, but the butter filling was all over fries and beans. Neither of us finished it and now feel a bit sick. A real shame because it could be so good.

Again given this place the benefit of the doubt, but it disappoints. One of our locals and used to be so good, but sadly last 2 trips have been pretty poor with poor menu selection and really awful food. Never eat the cous cous as its like wallpaper paste, the chips are from a plastic bag, and the service is surly. I am giving up on this place and recommend others do too until it bucks its ideas up. Expensive for what is is... And that's not great!

Well the cafe has some marvellous cakes - the flapjack was absolutely delicious1 You can also take them away. Be aware that they close promptly by 4pm so dont leave ordering too late. There are some nice gifts in the shop - I bought incense for presents. If you want to see the monastery chapel be aware that it is nowhere near to the car park and cafe - if you like a walk that is fine, if your mobility is limited there is space to park up near the monastery itself. The walled garden looked rather sad!

Poor value. Mash was flattened butter, no garden peas left, offered left over mushy peas. Avoid.

Delightful and charming cafe and tea room at the southern end of Frampton village green. The homemade cakes were delicious . Light lunch, lots to choose from All items are reasonably priced, well presented, good quality food and love the atmosphere and traditional ambience of this cafe. Staff we found friendly and helpful when ordering our food. We had jacket potatoes, prawns & coronation chicken, both came with salad. We would recommend visiting. Also even more grateful as I left my handbag behind when we left,They kindly put it behind the counter, they remembered us and as soon as we walked back into the cafe they handed it to us without us even having to ask. Thank you xxx
