We had a really good evening together celebrating an 80th birthday. all of us want to come back to Old Hall for another experience. Some ideas that would make the evening even better.... a menu without the prices so that we could identify each of the delicacies..... something to deal with the flies..{a minor irritation}... a method of attracting someone to attend the bar when we needed it. These did not spoil our evening but would have made it even better. Grazing

FABULOUS! We were visiting Ely for the first time and getting a bit peckish! Walked through the market and stumbled across this place. Outside seating was full so we asked for takeaway. The young man serving was polite and welcoming. We ordered two bagels - Nordic and The pastrami one (whose name I’ve forgotten). They came beautifully presented in Eco friendly boxes with compostable cutlery etc, fresh and delicious garnish of salad plus a few crisps. I work in hospitality, often judging chefs, and these guys are awesome. The ingredients were of high quality and a simple Bagel was delivered with perfection! THANK YOU 🙏

I had a bit of time to kill before my train left so I decided to get a drink whilst I waited. On platform 1 of Ely station is Locoespresso so I ordered a green tea which is something I drink regularly. The young lady who served me was very polite and friendly and was quick to serve me. I get the impression she does not drink green tea herself as she asked me if I would like milk or sugar in my tea. Does anyone else have these in their green tea? I may be in a minority?!?

Arriving at the location and having the cathedral insight makes you hopeful for a lovely experience, however entering the tavern you instantly notice a lack in atmosphere. Once seated the smell of urine starts to become noticeable however at this point you already feel as if you're past the point of leaving so begin to decide what to eat, with the menu looking promising. Due to having poor network within the location I had to order at the bar as the online ordering wouldn't work for me, this though wasn't too bad as the staff were friendly and helpful. As a collective my table order 3 x mix grills and one sauce and mash with a large Yorkshire putting along with a side of cheesy garlic break and some onion ring after a night of drinking leaving us rather hunger and wanting any food simply edible which most would think is a easy task. Once the food arrived though disappoint didn't take long to set in as the food was some of the worst food I have had the please of eating. The chicken was clearly frozen and dryer than the cardboard box it probably arrived in, all steaks where over cooked bland and clearly a cheap cut of meat even the simple things couldn't be done properly as the peas where undercooked. At this point you'd like to think all of that was the worse part however it's now time to talk about the sausage like seriously how can you call it a Cumberland sausage as you can properly find more pork within the veggie menu honestly disappointed would never go back as it a shame to go to such a lovely village and be let down by the simple things. We visited 3 Nov. Good Coffe & lovely service from 2 young ladies , but spoilt by rude & sarcastic service from a middle aged bleach blonde lady who thought my daughters allergies & concerns were irrelevant. My daughter had a reaction & queried the contents of the product with the lady who was rude & dismissed her concern & sarcastically asked if she wanted an ambulance! A simple query that was appallingly dealt with. Not good enough, do better.

I go here for lunch quite often, and always find the staff friendly and helpful, and the food is typical Greene King fayre, which suits me fine! But I went for Christmas Eve turkey, trimmings and Christmas pudding, and it wildly exceeded my expectations! Piping hot, turkey fell to pieces, absolutely lovely! I couldn't quite manage it all, as I had to leave a bit of room for the Christmas pudding, but I did my best! I felt I had to leave this review as I was so impressed. The staff also looked after me like I was family! So thanks a lot, and I'll be back very soon!

Tables and floor littered. Staff talking amongst themselves. Made to wait to have order taken. Emily was a professional manager, this lot are loud and unprofessional. Some of their friends came in, they were served before us, talking the whole time and didn’t pay. We walked out and went to Costa.

Decided to visit Sainsburys cafe for lunch as we were having some time in Ely. We were 3rd in the queue and gave our order after just a few minutes wait. The young man took our order for 2 meals and a child's meal very efficiently. He made 2 coffees and we sat down. Our food was delivered within 10 minutes. I enjoyed the All Day Breakfast, it was very good and the others cleared their plates! I consider that we had good value for money and would happily return.
