The best restaurants serving Japanese food in City and Hunslet Leeds Yorkshire and The Humber

This was my first time in Leeds and I was hungry after getting off the coach so thought I’d find somewhere near the station to eat. I found this stall inside Kirkgate market and the food was amazing. I had the chicken yakisoba and they were some of the freshest tasting noodles I’ve ever had. The owner was so friendly and welcoming and prepared the food so quickly even though everything is made fresh (even the noodles aren’t cooked before ordering and the vegetables aren’t pre-chopped either). The portions sizes were spot on and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely return to this place if I am ever in Leeds again :)

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Waitress, Margarett, was really helpful when we arrived, explained the menu really well and recommended the bento boxes which meant we got to try loads of different dishes. Food was amazing, so delicious and really good value. I had mentioned in the booking that it was my girlfriend's birthday and they surprised us with a huge slice of cake for dessert, which was a lovely surprise. Would 100% recommend and can't wait to go again and try some of the other dishes.

The food is great but we weren’t even finished eating and they were shoving the bull down our throats. They said we had 1 hour and 30 mins for the table and they were telling us we need to get ready to leave 45 mins into being sat down.

Sad to see Issho has closed. This place was a gem in Leeds, blending modern with traditional Japanese cuisine. Each visit was a culinary adventure, from sushi to unique dishes. Although sometimes service could be hit or miss, the overall experience was memorable. It'll be missed for its innovation and atmosphere.

We came here last night for my partners birthday and I booked ahead and let them know it was her birthday and they went above and beyond! They had put balloons up at our table and a lovely gentleman came over and asked her what kind of drinks she likes as he'll create her a birthday cocktail on the house! Really made us smile! The food was absolutely delicious 10/10 as well as the service from everyone at the restaurant. Cannot fault this place! We will definitely be returning when we're next in Leeds! Thanks guys 😍

I visited Itsu for the first time today and had a wonderful experience. Saya provided exceptional service—she greeted me with a warm smile and went above and beyond to assist me, even helping me carry my bags. Her kindness and attentiveness made my visit even more enjoyable. Great customer service like this truly makes a difference. I’ll definitely be returning!

I recently visited Wagamama, and honestly, it wasn’t the best experience. The food was cold when it arrived, which was a letdown. Our bao buns seemed to have taken a little detour around the restaurant and ended up being handed to the table next to us, even though they had just sat down. It was fine in the end, but not exactly what we were hoping for. If you’re looking for a quick, casual bite, it’s okay, but don’t expect anything too special.

Really enjoyed our dinner here tonight! I had the chicken curry, which was absolutely delicious, and the raspberry still lemonade which was also amazing! Staff were very friendly and good service. Would definitely recommend!
