My sister and I were looking for a Korean BBQ but serendipity brought us to Oba. The staff we're so kind and helpful that we decided to try Oba instead. The food was delicious, the service was great, and they serve cocktails too. Highly recommend this restaurant!

We visited on a Friday night after seeing the restaurant on OpenTable and fancying something different, and we were blown away with the quality of the food. We had chicken dumplings and the Korean fried chicken. Both were excellent, and the fried chicken had a real kick to it. Our mains were gyudon and chicken teriyaki and again both were superb. The draft beers were cobra and asahi and there was a good selection of wine, including a fabulous Japanese plum wine which was a first for us - a little like a sweet dessert wine and lovely. The service was quick and efficient and we spent a long while talking to the owner which gave a good insight into how the restaurant runs. The restaurant was unusually quiet but we went quite early in the evening so that might be the reason. The food definitely wouldn't be the reason! Overall, highly recommended and we will be going back.

Amazing tasty food, really friendly capable staff, would definately like to visit again. We had the OBA sharing platter then I had the bimipbap and my husband had the pork belly with kimchi. Then i had the mixed ice cream for desert. It was all really good and they brought boxes for us to take our uneaten food home on request.

Honestly I would not recommend this place, so we got honey mustard chicken and it was chicken thigh, I hate chicken thigh it’s gross. The soft crab shell starter was a let down. The mains were terrible, the kimchi rice was flavourless and dry and the egg on top was snotty. The Katsu chicken had no sauce so was very dry. We both felt sick afterwards and both had diarrhoea straight after, would not recommend.

Stopped by as a foodie friend had recommended the place. The Topokki with fish cake was so spicy and I loved it as a spice lover, though the texture of the rice cakes themselves was a little chewy. Would highly recommend the cocktails, I had the Lie-cheat and it was great. The lychee flavour really came through. The servers were very patient in explaining the extensive range of cocktails and making recommendations. Good ambience too. Have to give it to my mate, solid recommendation, would visit again to try more of the cocktails and mains.

Thank you. I immensely enjoyed myself thank you. Clear signposting upon entry in turn signposted 2WDs what would quickly clearly become my excellent culinary journey of GR8 food and company here at OBA Leeds. The latter directly in the form of my superb waiter and indirectly in my fellow equally appreciative diners. The former started with my said wonderful waiter guiding me through some of his at my request personal recommendations such was my relatively limited Japanese culinary cultural knowledge and to my great shame otherwise absolutely non existent Korean culinary cultural knowledge. So wishing to uphold the raison d'être of the restaurant - that of supportive cultural exchange between the two otherwise occasionally at odds great nations of Korea and Japan I went for a Japanese sashimi starter and a Korean Japchae main. The sashimi starter came with a noodle [ as opposed to rice ] base and its dry feel and perfectly firm texture superbly offset the relatively wet and juicy fish. The latter of which included the waiter recommended 3 varieties of salmon [ also available on its own ] tuna and sea bass. I had a go @ chopsticks and I did OK. I had the back up of a fork and spoon pair but I was really proud of myself that I could do it [ notwithstanding slow starting as my fingers otherwise organised themselves around the gorgeous black implements with which I would end up eating my entire meal - victory sweet victory ]. I chose to request a drink that was new 2 me ; a Korean soju as opposed to a Japanese sake - a brew I knew [ pls see photo below taken back @ home coz I was allowed to doggy bag it back there thank you ] and my waiter instantly selected my flavour - grape ! The drink like the sauce accompanying the sashimi was served in a traditional receptacle from which to respectively sip and dip. It was just SO MUCH FUN ! I was afforded every attention by the quintuple [ 5 ] lingual lovely waiter. For example as I sipped from my traditional thimble like glass and I drew down the soju spirit level it was refilled as I drank along. The restaurant is beautiful. The bathroom is spotless and my invisible disability [ bipolar disorder and historical sexual violence ] was easily accommodated in a large space easy to secure from the inside fully stocked and serviced pristine accessible toilet. Elsewhere in the bathroom space there were 2 [ two ] other cubicles so that's three to go @ once ! Signs of encouragement included ' Time 2 Wine Down ' and ' Mum = Mumster after counting 1 2 3 ' . After my delicious Japanese starter the excellent waiter recommended the Korean desired for dish of Japchae from which I chose the chicken variety. Again OMG WOW !!! This time the noodle base was wet and seriously filling yet also light enough to allow the rest of the flavoursome dish to shine forth. For example the perfectly prepared chicken and the devoutly divine vegetables. As an omnivore [ both plant and meat eater ] I prioritise culture first and in this case my wished for share of the spoils came from the superb restaurant's meat based dishes but of course there are plenty of vegetarian options. 4 Example dedicated vegetarian starters and mains and with a little precision detection the likes of Veggie Bibimbap within eg the main body of the mains [ just check the small print when it comes to ordering ]. Likewise a pre order able gluten free menu is also a highlighted element of the marvellous menu. My soju glass remained never less than half full as part of a non stop attention topping up ' just refill the glass ' approach to life's glass half empty moments apparent throughout this prime real estate located diamond venue. And all for a snip! I happened to be there @ a time of 30% reduction when ordering from the main menu summat I would have done anyway [ Bento and Ramen/Udon menus also naturally come with the menu territory but I fancied exploring beyond my already known 2 me taste sensation borders ]. Payment was simple and secure. I laid out my debit card on my perfectly proportioned table and the clever waiter simply held his contactless card reader above it and the payment processed without the need for me to affect anything else. I wished to leave a cash tip but the modest waiter demurred with a smile explaining that the service charge is included in the bill. 2 reciprocate his humble modesty in return I doubled down on my already committed to commitment of writing a 5 * review of my Oba Leeds experience here on Tripadvisor and reassured my compère without compare that whether he liked it or not he [ & his colleagues ] would be receiving the credit they deserved to the best of my literate ability thank you very much! As I hope I have herein both made good upon and crystal clear. Thank you. Food with a purpose. Food with an ideological dream. Food in support of peace in our time.

I came back to Oba this evening for my 3rd visit in the last few months. Me and my partner were celebrating our anniversary and the restaurant made it a magical evening they offered us a free glass of Prosecco each and gave us the best service. The food is incredible I have ordered something new every time I have visited and each time I have been blown away. Make sure you are hungry when you go as you will want to order starters too, I recommend the sous vie duck and gyozas. The drinks are also incredible and for both food and drink the staff are happy to answer all questions and give their recommendations. I'm already planning my next visit to Oba so I can try more of the menu and I will continue to return again and again.

My fiancé and I visited last night after having a not so great day. We decided to try Oba for the first time. I can honestly say that everything was faultless. The service was amazing and the staff couldn’t do more for you. Approximately 45 seconds after my partner got his drink, he managed to knock it over and it went everywhere. How embarrassing! We apologised several times but they wouldn’t hear it and helped us move to the next table over, wouldn’t let me help them clean up and made my partner a new drink very quickly. Bless them, such angels about it all while I sat there hoping the ground would swallow me up haha! We had some sushi that consisted of some of the best salmon sashimi that I’ve had in a long time, crispy yet chewy chicken dumplings and, as a person who does not typically like duck, one of the best duck dishes I have ever tasted which was recommended by our lovely waiter. I had chicken japchae and my fiancé opted for the pork shoulder katsu. We loved them both - everything was fresh and it was clear the chefs in the kitchen care about they put on a plate. My only disappointment was that I had gone out with the intention of having ramen for dinner and I must have missed on their menu that they stop serving their ramen at 5! Regardless, we were happy with every bit of food we ordered throughout the evening! I definitely recommend this restaurant with fantastic food and wonderful staff - we’ll be back for the bibimbap soon because that looked out of this world!

We went to Oba before seeing The National at the arena on what was a very busy Saturday evening. It transpired quickly that my husband had somehow booked our table for the Sunday night instead of the Saturday. The staff were amazing though and managed to fit us in that evening, which we were so unbelievably grateful for. Especially once we got the food, which was absolutely delicious. My husband had the tofu katsu curry which looked wonderful, and the sauce was incredible. The best we’ve had anywhere. I had a chicken bibimbap and, wow. I’m not normally ever a fan of mushrooms yet somehow I ate every single one in that bowl. Everything just tasted amazing. And of course, the service was brilliant. We’re really sad that we’re not local to Leeds but we’re genuinely considering coming back purely to visit Oba again!

We (my husband and I) visited Sunday with our two boys and have to say, it was a fantastic experience. A small yet perfectly formed restaurant, it was already staring to get busy at just gone 4pm. We hadn’t booked however we were made to feel extremely welcome and were swiftly found a table for four. We all opted for their lunchtime special (served until 5pm) - a Bento box filled with the most delicious food. This was perfect for our two boys who are sushi mad (absolutely love the stuff!) and whom we wanted to try other Japanese food. There was so much yummy food- we all agreed it was super tasty and well worth the price. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. We had a lovely experience here and will definitely return. Highly recommended.

Food was very tasty, the chef we were seated with was good and I enjoyed the interactive experience. Only downside was it was so crowded. Personally I think there was 2 seats too many at each table which meant you had to keep your arms pinned to your sides so you didn't elbow the stranger next to you. Also the seating area is tight so people had to keep moving if you wanted to get past. Would recommend as an experience, but it is expensive so not something for a casual meal.
