Senbon sakura in Leeds

Went once in February and it was so nice we went again. Wide range of sushi and sashimi options. Tried the chicken katsu this time- the chicken was crispy and the curry flavourful. Chicken gyoza was delicious too. The wine wasn't much to marvel at but overall it was a great meal.

The food is always awesome and it was the same on this visit, but I kinda felt as though I may have been inconveniencing the server. Will go back regardless and highly recommend it as the food is good.

Stumbled on this place last night and i was pleasantly surprised. It has a nice, cosy atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and attentive. I ordered a mix of sushi and everything was delicious! Great sized portions, i left full and satisfied! Highly recommend!

The food was delicious and the selection was great. The staff welcomed you through dotes with a smile. The food arrived quickly and let me tell you - it was so delicious and freshly made. The gyozas were crispy and the filling was 5 star.

A really nice setting and vibe. The food was ok, not great. The service is fairly poor, though we went within an hour of closing, so I think the staff were tired. My main gripe was that they didn't serve dishes at the same time as the others you are with. They actually forgot my main dish and served it when my partner had almost finished hers. It could be a great place with a bit more organisation and effort in the kitchen.

Popped in on the way home to pick up a take away. Staff were very attentive, helped my daughters with the menu, and had the order ready in good time. The food was absolutely delicious! Will definitely be going back!

Booked a table, got there five mins early. They literally gave our table away to someone as we got there. Their only solution was to wait for at least half an hour for a table to be free. I cannot stand around as I am disabled. Lost a regular customer now.

The Kaarage, chicken gyoza, teriyaki chicken roll and chicken Katsu are good. But don’t go for Ramen. They use instant noodles instead of the proper soba noodle. Their “tonkatsu” ramen is bland and didn’t taste of pork at all and more of a fishy taste. Their cha su is dry and the wrong cut of pork The egg was hard boiled to the point of rubber You can do better with the instant ramen packets from a Asian supermarket and when I provided some feedback the response from the wait staff from the feedback was “sorry this is Japanese ramen”. This was without a doubt the worst ramen I’ve ever had.

Experience: Disappointing 😔 We love Senbon Sakura, but this time they let us down. We ordered their Beef Gyudon, but what we got tasted and looked like Beef Teriyaki. When we complained, the staff insisted it was Gyudon. We expected better from this supposedly authentic Japanese restaurant. 😕🇯🇵 We love the sushi tho but the gyudon, meh. that’s definitely not a gyudon. We’ve been to Japan and other restos around asia, Gyudon tastes different from what senbon is serving. Visited this cute little gem of a restaurant with our 10 yo daughter who is obsessed with Japan and all things Japanese. It’s close to her dads work place so we thought we would give it a try (we could also smell the delicious aromas from outside). The place is small but perfectly adequate and beautifully decorated with cherry blossoms and a large hand painted mural on the back wall. The large tv screens behind the counter were playing K-pop music videos much to our daughters delight, which was a nice touch. There were lots of staff, all of whom were extremely attentive. The menu is extensive, I mean, you need 20 minutes just to read through it! So much to choose from, including authentic bento box meals which were very good value. The sushi list was also amazing and there were lots of traditional and unusual ones to choose from. Our daughter chose the ‘golden salmon rolls’ which was salmon and avocado wrapped in rice, covered in seaweed and cooked in a light tempura with Japanese mayo- these were out of this world delicious! My husband chose the sirloin steak bento box meal which came with chicken gyoza, jasmine rice, teriyaki steak and Japanese vegetables with edamame beans. I had the vegetable gyoza and king prawn noodles. We also ordered a teriyaki salmon steak which I think was one of the nicest pieces of salmon I’ve ever eaten- crispy and salty outer and soft and sweet inner. All was cooked to perfection, fresh, and completely delicious. We really loved our visit here and are looking forward to returning & working our way through the menu!

Lovely spot, little cozy place tucked away from the busy area. Nice food and good value for money. Only tried sushi sets so far, but will be back to try other dishes for sure 😊

There are many sushi spots in leeds but this is definitely one of the best. Would highly recommend if you’re in city centre or near the universities

After Maxin our favorite restaurant disappeared this will our replacement.Good food,decent choice,good value...... only .The music tv background is very monotonous,overbearing and loud.If they could play<other>japanese music and there is some very nice one it would be great.

Absolutely disgusting, my food arrived with a FLY in it and this terrible place took no responsibility for it at all. I will never be returning again and i advise everyone to stay clear of this abysmal takeaway with ZERO food hygiene standards.

Seriously one of those hidden gems! Love the interior decor it’s so colourful and inviting. The food is amazing, I had the best miso soup and salmon sushi. It is fresh. The bottomless green tea is also amazing. I’ve been there twice and I’ll keep on going there it’s just great every time. Also for dessert try the mochi! Absolutely Devine!

Lunch bowl specials are cheap at £6 but I have to say I found mine kind of disgusting: bones in the globs of chicken, served with Korean kimchi sauce over fried rice. Even the edamame had a weird flavor.

Be wary ordering takeaway!!! I usually get takeaway from here and thought it was good food. Today proved otherwise. The food I received was not what was advertised. This was something that was not updated in the app so it would have been excusable. Their treatment of me afterwards was not, only after I requested a refund did they offer to send me what I ordered. When it did arrive I called thinking my soup base was wrong. It wasn’t, I just thought it was a different soup base as it looked different. I tried to call up to enquire about it, was told to wait so I did for 3-5 minutes and then they hung up on me. I called again but no one picked up. I had to call the delivery driver just to get in contact with the restaurant. When I apologised for my mistake with the soup base, they cut me off. In the end, the food was still incorrect and tasted like dish soap. It contained fish that was not advertised which can also pose a problem for people allergic to certain seafood. They completely disregard any notes you add to delivery, in this case they did not removed vegetables from one of the dishes I ordered. Please be aware of this before you order. I will not be ordering again which is a shame as some of the food is really good.

One of the tastiest Japanese restaurants in Leeds if not west Yorkshire. Hidden away almost and very much away from the hustle and bustle of the very centre of town. Incredibly authentic and freshly made food. Fantastic selection and wonderful atmosphere.

DO NOT ORDER ON SENBON SAKURA APP Sushi poor quality and not very nice to be honest. Ordered a prawn tempura dragon roll and they put dorritos on top! Terrible customer service, sent me the wrong roll and charged me the wrong amount and refused to change it to the roll I ordered despite the roll I ordered was a £1 cheaper so they would be making money!! Customer service is terrible, lie to the customers and food average.

Good little Japanese hideaway...good decor...friendly staff...ordered selection of the lunchtime menu with my son, avocado and salmon sushi, presented well, tasted fresh ..good. two bowls of cha- shu ramen one with pork broth the other with miso broth..again presented well..meat cooked well..noodles ok...pork broth tasted good , miso broth maybe needs more miso as could hardly taste but overall was good.. Katy chicken curry ...crisp chicken with steamed rice and katsu curry sauce..good chicken sweet tangy sauce rice cooked well....japenese chicken curry...again with steamed rice both currys tasted good ...brown rice tea was nice....service fast , most things on lunch menu 6 pound...very good value for good quality food....

Perfection!!!! Why are there not many more places like this in Leeds??? The food was amazing (especially for the price) atmosphere was amazing, service was great, location was great and the bento box was so neatly laid out...I cannot fault this place at all!!!! Thoroughly enjoyed this place.

I ordered the food at 7:30 on ubereat and the system showed the food will be arrived before 8:10pm, but when I called the shop at 8:33, they said the food just sent out at 8:30, how come the shop can’t make ubereat promise, finally I got the food at 9:15pm, the staff in that shop hanged up my call, they said their shop is busy today but why they didn’t adjust the delivery from 15-20 mins to over one hour??? it is very impolite behaviour! I would suggest all of you don’t go this shop, the food become colder and the sushi is not good quality!

I ordered the food through Ubereat at 7:32pm tonight and Ubereat showed that the food can be delivered by 8:10pm. Before 8:00pm, I called your company and confirmed your staff my order is received and is preparing. At 8:30pm, I called your staff and told them my order still not yet received and she just gave me the driver's number but didn't make any update on Ubereat. I called the driver and his behaviour is very rude and told me he needs to deliver five orders!!! How come??? I ordered on Ubereats and believe this platform can provide good quality service to me!!I am very disappointed for the driver's response and I called your staff again and I asked her to find a staff who can talk in Cantonese with me, I told the cantonese woman what's wrong, the woman just told me tonight is busy for your shop, then I want to ask your shop is busy is not related to me, I checked and found the delivery time on Ubereats is I want to get the food at expected time, it's none of my business for your busy company! The most behaviour made me angry is the cantonese woman hanged up my call and I called again, she hanged up again!!! What kind of service for your company? After ten minutes, I call again and ask for talking with the manager, but the staff Cici said no manager and supervisor here? How to operate for your shop, she told me she doesn't know who can say Cantonese, I ask for her name and Cici is not willing to tell me!! When the food arrived at 9:15, the quality of sushi are very bad and the rice is also not hot/warm. I don't understand any wrong for me in this order but getting this kind of bad behaviour from your staff and so bad food quality. Now, I felt stomach pain too!!!

Ordered from Senbon and the food took over 2 hours. Staff didn’t seemed to care and food was cold when arrived. Food looked really good and some of it tasted nice just a shame it was cold.

Had dinner on the excellent set meal deal- at 2 courses and a drink for £16, I was very happy! Portions were just right, service was incredibly fast. Sushi was tasty and not stingy with the salmon, and the wasabi wasn't overpowering as it can be in some places

Well I have written a review 4 years ago and unfortunately I had come back and change it. 6 years ago when I started getting food from this place it was the best in Leeds, the owners cared about their business and look after their customers. Fast forward 6 years later, I can categorically say that this place has gone down the bin. Food is now not even 4 out of 10, customer service is the worse we have ever witnessed and unfortunately I had to change my review and beg you not go to this place anymore as you will waste every penny of your money. It’s a great shame that a good quality restaurant can go to absolute bin in such a short space of time and I have no doubt that this small business will shut very soon because of lack of quality and care.

Dear Senbon Sakura Cafe, please read this review and feel free to reply. We placed an order through Uber. Your restaurant uses your own drivers for delivery. There was no updates on our order progress through you via Uber. Our order was delivered late and cold. It was impossible to contact you for an order update via the app or calling your restaurant. I spoke to your driver about the service and quality of food. To our surprise, your driver put their hand into our food to check the temperature, which immediately made our food inedible. The driver said that "I'm just a delivery driver in an £80k sports car delivering a £30 meal". Why he felt compelled to say this is ridiculous. He said he would action a refund from the restaurant for us, and I witnessed him messaging you. You didn't action the refund. We had to go through Uber support. This order was terrible. We have the conversation and actions of your driver on CCTV, and I am happy to come into your restaurant to share this with you. Update from response: Thank you for the reply. On reflection, It would have been reasonable of you to have updated us during our order. We don't agree that you authorised the refund. No push notification from the Uber app came through. We spoke to Uber support this morning, they stated they had no acknowledgement or authorisation from you. Please don't lie and you should review your "third party driver".

Particularly good senbon tonight. I always rate it , but tonight was exceptional, congratulations to the chef. Extremely enjoyable meal. Totally recommend.

I had this as lunch. Katsu was good. But indeed not the best. I think the good side is they have variety of price choices. Almost everything on the menu was around £6! I also ordered miso ramen and honestly the soup was too bland and had weak flavour. My friend who had tonkotsu asked for salt and chilli powder. P.S. #1 the chashu (pork) is more like Chinese char siu style (harder and nm fat) #2 ramen comes with bean sprout The restaurant was semi self-service style. Do not expect much. Not bad but not excellent either

Small Japanese cafe with interesting menu at great prices. I had a bento box with teriyaki salmon. It arrived quickly and was piping hot as well as delicious. Perfect if you are on your own or have company.

This is a l lovely little cafe, Japanese lanterns and art decorate the place and there was k pop playing on a tv above the bar. The food was very good. I had the miso karaage bento set. The chicken was tender & juicy with a tasty coating. 美味しい!

Excellent food!! Miso karrage and spicy salmon roll were out faves! Service was fair - had to get up from my table a couple of times to get the attention of staff. It did feel like there's more attention paid to deliveroo drivers than those dining in.

I have been here a few times now with friends, colleagues and even for a business lunch and every time i have been very impressed. The food quality is excellent and it is quiet enough that you can have a proper conversation unlike a lot of restaurants in Leeds. The prices are also great, great portion sizes too.

Easily worst experience iv had. Flys cheap food ect. I'm a qualified chef and noticed everything straight away. This restaurant has great potential to be a amazing restaurant but currently is not the one. Hope they improve

Everything was Delicious, would come back and just have the sushi as it was super delicious and affordable. I was least impressed by the ramen but I think that’s just cause I didn’t order right not because it wasn’t good. Gyozas and katsu were delicious

I ordered a munch box which took almost 3 hours to arrive when I live under 2kms away. I called over 14 times to see where my food was but I got no answer so I ordered something else. 20 minutes later the food arrived, it was freezing, soggy and the chicken was pink. I called straight away to complain and get a refund. I just kept getting told to complain through Uber/JustEat even though I ordered through their website which I told them multiple times. There was no way to get my money back! I usually really like this place but was extremely disappointed and am unlikely to order again.

Excellent food, fast and friendly service, reasonable prices.

We both had the chicken katsu for lunch and it was really nice. We had the chicken gyoza to start which were also really good. The staff are always really friendly and we normally go here if we have an appointment at Leeds General Infirmary.

Service was very good, got my food and order taken quickly, food was good too ordered the chicken kaarage and tonkatsu ramen, personally the kaarage stole the show

An Izakaya is a Japanese beer house serving snacks such as yakitory and okonomiyaki pancakes Here looks the part and serves a huge selection of delicious small plates, sushi (and even better - sashimi) along with some larger Japanese and Korean dishes. I love this place. In my 6 nights in Leeds recently I have been here thrice (and Leeds has plenty of excellent restaurants). Give it a go. It’s on the west of the main area but only a 10 minute walk from The Light. Friendly, quick service and very reasonably priced

Lovely service and the food is amazing. Its been a long time since ive had grilled Eel and Senbon did not disappoint. They are generous with their portion size. Paid parking is available near the store. Forgot to take pictures and we were busy digging in. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Me and my friends are here yesterday and had a great time. The restaurant decor is beautiful, the food was amazing! The service was also very good. Could not fault this place at all and would 100% be coming back.

Always a pleasure coming here, feels just like being in Japan. The fried rice with eel is my favorite, such deep flavor and the eel is super tender and the seasoning in the rice doesn't take away from it either. The takoyaki is simply amazing, better than many places I had it in Japan (Lived there 6 years)! The sushi is also very good for the Japanese/American sushi (you don't find many 'rolls' in Japan) which I like to try different ones. The Nigiri (more traditional) is also really good quality, you can tell they take extra care in selecting their fish. So far, this is my favorite Japanese restaurant in the UK (I drive 40mins just come here). For those who have spent time in Japan, this is what you are looking for!

On the hottest night of the year, we wanted a cool meal to take out so ordered from this restaurant on Uber Eats. The meal came after 1 hour and 40 minutes, an hour later than we were led to expect and no attempt appeared to have been made to keep the fish cool in our sushi platters. A very poor experience and not one that I would repeat

Leeds University fried rice is good value and packs a flavour punch in a big portion. Sashimi is decently fresh.

Ordered from Senbon Sakura for the first time as we wanted to try something new. We won't be doing it again. Firstly the website is just not friendly and offers 15% off your first order. This wasn't applied. Secondly the food took over 2 hours to arrive with no update or apology for the terribly slow service. Then I get a phone call off the driver who can't find the house (it's one of two houses on the street and has a big number on the front door). You couldn't find it because you were over the road in an empty dark car park where there is clearly no house. You also went the wrong way down a one way street. Third when we eventually got the food it was luke warm. The food was edible and I would describe it as ok but was bland in flavour. It was like something you'd throw together from the freezer and worth no where near what we paid. All in all will be avoiding in future.
