The best restaurants serving Italian food in Isle of Wight South East

I was luck enough to get 2 seat at the ‘pay what you want’ evening. I can honestly say it did not disappoint! 8 individuals sat round a table, enjoying wonderful food. A brilliant concept! Each dish was carefully thought out and tasted insane. Alex and Laurel were easily able to cater for my gf needs along with the normal secret menu! I will be ordering take out soon so I can share their amazing food with my Husand. Checkout their website and get your name in the hat for one of these brilliant evenings!! A very pleasant return to this firm favourite of a restaurant and again not disappointed at all, the food was absolutely top notch, the service was equally on par, a must for any foodie whilst in Ventnor.

We ordered a Napoli pizza and a Greek salad. The salad was a good-sized portion and absolutely delicious. Toppings were generous on the pizza and we enjoyed our meal very much.

Shanklin's best! Staff are amazing, food is fantastic and it always has a nice buzz. This former gentleman's taylor shop has turned into an excellent resturant filled with great people!

The welcome was first rate. I’m guessing that there was a little problem with staff communication. The young lady who served our drinks was struggling, as some of our party had to wait some time. The food came out at roughly the same time. We were a party of 21. Food. The mixed grill. You couldn’t fault the amount of mixed meats. Lamb and beef, I asked for rare and was told that it couldn’t be done as the meats were cooked in a “package”. The meats came out universally “well done. It seemed to me that they were fairly new to the business and training new staff at the same time. My wife and I, intending returning as a couple next year. Given the amount of effort they’re putting in, I hope they succeed.

As others have observed similarly, I thought I had time-warped back into the 1980s. Pine furniture and piped saxophone. That aside, the food was generally fine, the service efficient. It tries to be authentically Italian: the minestrone soup and penne con funghi were excellent (and piping hot) but the penne with vegetables - including sautéed potatoes - is redolent of 'meat and 2 veg' of days long gone. Quite reasonably priced though. I got the impression that the core clientele are local retired who appreciate what it has to offer and evidently bring in sufficient business. I was in the area for work and needed somewhere to eat; this was acceptable but if there's another time I would probably try somewhere else.

We come to Ventnor on a regular basis, and the first evening out is always this place, never disappoints, ever changing specials to compliment the standard but superb tried and tested main menu, we had starters from the regular menu, and the chicken specials, absolutly perfect in all ways. The waiting staff are fantastic, professional and ultra friendly, see you next month when Emily and I return.

Excellent pizzas at Freshwater Bay, eaten by the Travelling Tavern on a sunny evening. Difficult to beat! Great price too. Highly recommended.

What a great night! We went there to celebrate my nieces birthday and we had a wonderful evening. Four of us sorted steak and there was one spaghetti Bolognese. The steaks were excellent. Mine was medium rare. It was cooked to a tea and the pepper sauce and fries with a perfect accompaniment. Will be coming back again.

The worst and soggiest calamari fritti I have ever had served, with overlarge salad and no dressing. Large dog carpeted the floor. Italian version of Mrs Overall waited on, in character. Huge rectangular comedy plate dwarfed the already tiny tables. My Italian relatives will not be coming here.

Brilliant pizzas & service. We had a pizza each, including a spicy pizza off the specials board that was recommended by the waitress. They even fulfilled my request for one of the pizza’s to be extra crisp! The pizzas were the best I have ever had. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough.
