Oh Dear Oh Dear. you've gone down the automated route al la Leon etc. I went into the Margaret Street store this morning for a crispy bacon baguette. The 1st thing which struck me was that the shop looked closed! No activity except for three young people laughing and joking in a huddle sitting on the benches close to the counter. I stood at the counter for a few moments waiting to give my order and was again struck by the lack of activity. After a while one of the kids in the huddle pointed to the far wall and said "you order here". With a sunken heart I saw the 6 or so automated order screens. My experience of these things is a) its not a human and b) they rarely work. I had also recently gone into Leon on the Strand who have installed something similar and the whole soul of the experience had been ripped out. With heavy heart I approached the 1st screen and, as instructed, tapped to start. I tapped again. And again. and a few more times. I then moved on to another screen and another and another. No joy. none of them would load when I tapped. When I turned around for assistance the kids just carried on laughing and joking . So I went to Greggs on Great Titchfield Street, which is cheaper at any rate!

This restaurant based near the Old Bailey, looks (from the outside) like a basic unassuming café. Do not let this put you off. The service and food are above average. This is one of those restaurants that should not be judged by appearance. .

This would have probably got a 4 star but they let themselves down. The food was tasty and the service was ok except they made an error with my order and only brought it several minutes later after my friend was halfway through her meal. Sometimes when those things happen they will offer you a discount or free drink or something - they didn't but it didn't even cross my mind and when I received the £100 plus bill with the 12.5% service already included, I paid without question. However by that time I decided to have a coffee whilst my friend was finishing her drink and he (seemed to be a manager or something so not like it was a youngster without any choice) gave me a separate bill for it which I thought was very cheeky and disappointing and for such a silly amount, ruined my whole feeling about the place.

Briciole Ristorante in London is a gem of an Italian restaurant, and my recent visit left me thoroughly impressed. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The restaurant’s rustic yet elegant decor, combined with its cozy ambiance, made us feel like we were dining in the heart of Italy. The food was nothing short of spectacular. Briciole offers a delicious variety of authentic Italian dishes, each bursting with flavor and made from the freshest ingredients. We started with the antipasto platter, which was a delightful mix of cured meats, cheeses, and marinated vegetables. For the main course, I had the handmade pappardelle with wild boar ragu—it was rich, hearty, and absolutely divine. My companions enjoyed the seafood linguine and the veal Milanese, both of which were equally outstanding. The tiramisu for dessert was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. What truly elevated our experience was the exceptional service. The staff members were professional, attentive, and genuinely passionate about ensuring we had a wonderful time. We were fortunate to meet the managers, Mr. Angelo and Mr. Alex, who were incredibly welcoming and took the time to chat with us about the restaurant’s philosophy and menu. A special mention goes to Mr. Atar who hosted us with utmost professionalism and warmth. His proactive approach and attention to detail made us feel like valued guests throughout the evening. Briciole Ristorante is more than just a restaurant—it’s an experience. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply craving authentic Italian cuisine, this place is a must-visit. I can’t wait to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in London. Grazie, Briciole!
