Outstanding quality, flavours and service. Real old school family cooking. A superb authentic restaurant that I shall return time and time again.

Nos quedamos un poco decepcionados, ya que nuestras expectativas eran bastante altas después de leer todas las críticas positivas. Para empezar pedimos pasta e fagioli, que por desgracia era un poco soso, pero aún así está bien. Vitello tonnato era decente, pero particularmente no disfruté de la cantidad de rucola que se escondió debajo del vitello y no se mencionó en el menú. En cuanto a nuestro plato principal pedimos piccata di vitello al limone, que estaba muy bien cocinado. Optamos por un plato de calabacín a la parrilla en el lado con parmesano en la parte superior, que no era impresionante ya que algunos calabacines estaban mal cocinados. Elegimos el tiramisú de postre, que era extraordinario, muy ligero y no demasiado dulce. Por otro lado, el servicio no estuvo a la altura de nuestras expectativas, ya que había algunas lagunas. Por ejemplo, no recibimos una cesta de pan con las aceitunas y el aceite. Como ya había algunos palitos de pan en la mesa a la llegada pensamos que eso era todo, así que no pedimos pan. Más tarde, cuando llegaron otros clientes, recibieron una cesta de pan con las aceitunas inmediatamente, por lo que nos sentimos un poco descuidados. También a otras mesas se les han ofrecido los especiales del día, pero de nuevo para nosotros eso no sucedió. Cuando llegaron nuestros entrantes tuvimos que pedir pan y recibimos 2 pequeñas rebanadas que se han puesto en la parrilla, pero aún así no era ni la mitad de la cantidad de lo que otros clientes recibieron. En conclusión, la comida estaba definitivamente por encima de la media, pero el servicio necesita mejorar.

Lovely restaurant tucked away off Pall Mall, delicious traditional Italian food served with care and attention. A reasonable price point given the combination of quality food and location in the city.

Comida encantadora, ambiente perfecto y servicio impecable. Paso por aquí la mayoría de los días y siempre está ocupado. Eso te dice algo.

A lovely restaurant with excellent food, a genuinely interesting wine list, and charming service

Mi primera visita a este restaurante italiano en el corazón de la calle James. Es propiedad y está administrado por las hijas del fundador. Bonita decoración moderna con una sensación cálida, personal amable y acogedor que descubrimos más tarde eran los propietarios. Servicio atento, sabrosa comida bien presentada y para la zona bien valorado, tenía una comida encantadora con un poco de buen Chianti. Un montón de platos clásicos italianos con un toque moderno, el entrante Bresaola era particularmente bueno. Terminaron siendo los últimos en irse (como de costumbre) y se les aplicó una gran cantidad de limoncello de cortesía. Todo alrededor de un lugar muy agradable para estar.

Pensé que conocía la calle James pero escondido en un pasillo cerca del club Carlton es una joya escondida. Gran bienvenida de 3 señoras 2 las hijas del antiguo propietario. Mesas muy espaciadas en una habitación limpia y luminosa donde se puede escuchar hablar. La comida era excelente. Muy sabroso y fresco. El verdadero limoni suficiente para 4 tiernos y en una gran salsa. Una lista de vinos a precios muy justos. Gran servicio por bianca federika y Barbara. Volveremos. No conocemos un italiano mejor en Londres.

Food first class in presentation and taste BUT One of our party had seafood linguine which was amazing but had to ask for finger bowl as prawns were in their shells. The table service was disappointing especially as an additional 13.5% added!

La segunda vez de visitar y este es un restaurante maravilloso. Gran ambiente, comida a un precio razonable con excelente cocina calabresa y un servicio encantador. Destacaron en esta ocasión los calamares fritti, la lingüina de marisco y la pasta con carne de embutido y costilla de cerdo (con pasta sin gluten). Postres muy sabrosos y café. ¡Volveremos!

I’ve never written a restaurant review before, but I had to this time because Il Vicolo has the best tiramisu I’ve ever tasted! Excellent service, too— it didn’t feel awkward to be eating alone. Absolutely worth a visit!

The most Italian experience i have ever had outside Italy. Absolutely superb food, great service, excellent wine and just the most perfect vibe for a relaxed, unhurried night out (if you are in a rush or on a tight schedule, go somewhere else).

Had a wonderful dinner here whilst travelling solo. The 3 lady waitresses were awesome and very welcoming. They were great with some young families also. Food and wine by the glass choices were spot on. Will be back when next in London.

A visit to Il Vicolo is always a pleasure, and last night was no exception: kitchen on fine form; quiet, unassuming but charming service; and a terrific ambience. The sisters and their team are doing their late father proud.

Located in the heart of St James, this charming restaurant is a true gem. The wine list is fantastic, and the two owners are incredibly helpful, even offering tastings to help you choose the perfect bottle. We opted for a delightful Barolo. For starters, we enjoyed Bresaola con Carciofi, Vitello Tonnato, and Calamari Fritti—each dish was delicious. Our main courses, Ravioli del Buongustaio, Ravioli alla Zucca, and Fileja alla Norma, were just as tasty and generously portioned. We left feeling very satisfied and can’t recommend this hidden gem enough for its wonderful food, good wine selection, and very helpful and welcoming service.

You cannot get better than this lovely family italian restaurant in the heart of St James. Frederica, Ariana and Chiara are the lovely Italian ladies who run this wonderful place and Antonio the chef's cooking is fantastic. As soon as you enter the atmosphere is lovely. Beautifully starched white table clothes amd tables spaced out in a delightful way to give all diners space and definitely not a feeling of being crammed in. These lovely ladies are great. The food is outstanding and the lovely wine from Italy gorgeous. If you haven't been yet get on your walking shoes and amble down. I highly recommend you book ahead. When we arrived for a meal people were being turned away at the door. Well done ladies and Antonio.

I love this restaurant and try and visit when in London but it’s not now open on Saturday or Sunday. I enjoy the simple food, always well cooked and delicious and being a family run establishment the service and ambiance is relaxed and comfortable. The specials are worth a try particularly the truffle pasta when in season. I’m visiting again in about three weeks time and can’t wait!

Tucked away in an alley just off Pall Mall,. Very subdued lighting and a bit dead in terms of atmosphere, but a superbly tender calves liver compensated. Quite swift service.

Monday lunch birthday treat for me at this wonderful Italian restaurant from my kind Spanish wife. High Quality and simplicity sum up the food we had at a very reasonable price for this posh part of town... plus lovely friendly service from family owners (sisters). What more can one ask? Perfect!

it’s wonderful that Il Vicolo has reopened in new premises, just up from the old site, (which is being redeveloped). After a refreshing pint in the red lion, a friend and I popped in for dinner last week. I always enjoy the specials and the ravioli with truffles rewarded my decision – it was splendid! The wine is of excellent quality and we enjoyed an excellent Fruili red. I’ve already booked to go again this month. The new restaurant is very well laid out to ann exceptionally high standard and has a most welcoming atmosphere. I can’t wait to go again!

We chose it almost by chance, but it was a great surprise: very cosy and elegant site, absolute warm and kind staff, very nice story of a family-managed business. Food is excellent, "ravioli del buongustaio" themselves are worth the visit...also good value for money, considering London's standard...highly recommended

Really enjoyed the food and service at this Italian Restaurant in London. Homemade pasta with lamb rague was my favorite entree. Excellent dessert choices.

I’ve been coming here for many years. The family has a done a great job after the Covid closure. Hosting a large party of international business colleagues for dinner went off easily and with many compliments on the quality of food and service. We will be back.

As a former cook myself, with a River Cafe chef in the family, I'm really picky. This is simply the next best thing to being in Italy. A small family run restaurant/trattoria in a little passage ('vicolo') just off St James's Street, the daughters of the original (late) chef are charming and very efficient. Usually there are more family in the kitchen to provide the delicious food - some of the best Italian anywhere. Prices are reasonable for what you get and where it is. Probably my favourite place to eat in London.

This restaurant is tucked away in an alley. We sat by the window, good space in-between tables. We ordered: Vitello Tonnato  Thin slices of veal on a bed of rocket, with a homemade cream, tuna, capers and black olive sauce topped with parsley. Fusilli Bonavita    Twisted shaped pasta with veal, spinach and a cherry tomato sauce. Linguine al Granchio     Flat spaghetti with fresh crab in a light tomato sauce with basil. Farfalle "il vicolo"     Butterfly shaped pasta with mixed wild mushrooms, prawns and cream. Tartufo Nero     Hazelnut & chocolate ice cream with vanilla centre, dusted with ground hazelnut and cocoa. All dishes were flavoursome and were well presented. The service by Ciara was exemplary. Highly recommended.

Had an enjoyable lunch. Great food and service. It gets a bit busy, so getting a table could be a challenge at times. Rather small, but I do recommend it.

Sfeerloos, wij zaten er na een kwartier alleen en dat op een zaterdagavond... met nogal uitdrukkelijk aanwezige moderne jazzmuziek die niet zou misstaan in een lift ergens... Service was matig, wijn werd maar niet gebracht, toen we ernaar vroegen , kwam het, maar werd er een flinke geut over het witte tafellaken gekiept. Toen het eten kwam, was ik stomverbaasd over de porties; zelfs de 12 jarige had zijn paparderdelle Bolognese in no time op, mijn tortellini heb ik maar in kleine stukjes opgegeten, want het was écht weinig. Wél zéér lekker! Wel leuke ruimte met mooie eenvoudige aankleding, maar niks sfeer, zeer moeizaam, al zou ik voor het eten in wat grotere porties voor dat geld, zeker terugkomen!

One dish the prawns and mushroom pasta looks like you could make it better at home. And for £15-£20 for pasta I will not be coming back. Bread and olives were really nice but if you do not want them make sure to say something otherwise you get an add on to the bill.

A great local Italian restaurant where you can eat simple Italian dishes at a reasonable price (for Mayfair)

This was a very overpriced meal. Small basket of bread for 4 people and they would not give more. $3.60 cover charge added to bill. When questioned they said it was for the bread. Would never go again.

I just had an "interesting" experience. I arrived for my reservation when only one other table was occupied. I was on my own....I was not given a choice of tables...I was given the one next to a serving area. I wasn't told there were specials; others, couples and groups had specials described at length. I noted each couple or group was asked which table they wanted. I managed to order food and wine, then I was completely ignored. Unless I signaled for service, nothing. When I ordered a second glass of wine it didn't come until I asked a second time. Yes, the restaurant was busy, but old lady, on her own, ignored....really. I won't be back.

Empty at lunchtime. Not worth the price. Good for wannabe aristocrats. The bill included items we did not order. And I got stomach problems after eating the spaghetti with meatballs. Also, I got sore throat from freezing water served.

Wonderful, authentic Italian - the real deal!

Very good southern Italian cuisine. Chance upon it in a lane (vicolo), didn't expect much but the food was excellent. Not a big menu but the food, presentation, service was very good. Wine recommended was great and the price was very surprising reasonable. Will definitely comeback and highly recommend to our friends.

Sono passato l' anno scorso e si trova l nel cuore della città. È molto accogliente anche se non molto grande. L'italianità è presente nello stile che nella cucina( consiglio i ravioli) e la lista vini merita. Giacomo è un proprietario simpaticissimo, così come tutti i ragazzi della cucina. About 4-6 minutes walk from the Ritz Hotel in London, this Italian family-run restaurant is highly recommended! Everything is fine really, but ask for their Burrata & the Tiramisu! Federica and her two sisters are very hospitable and add to the warmth of the place. We were a group of 17 and they took very good care of us. Thank you! Wil be back. PS On our way back from the restaurant around 10 pm we saw a little red fox crossing the road on St. James Street. Unbelievable

If you want fabulous Italian cuisine in an intimate setting then Il Vicolo is where you need to go. A small menu that provides the freshest, tastiest food and the owners/staff are just amazing.

The restaurant suggests very good italian dishes. The pastas were perfectly cooked.

I really wanted to give this place a great review because the food was delicious BUT they lost stars due to the tiny portion size. My ravioli looked like a starter with only a slither of squares on the plate. I left the restaurant still hungry even though I asked for extra bread! I've noticed some restaurants make the vegetarian portions far smaller when in fact, they should be the same size if not bigger than the meaty dishes as vegetarian food is lower in calories so naturally less filling. Please note: vegetarians are not all food phobics - we choose to eat this way for environmental/ethical/health reasons!

Absolutely superb. Delicious Italian food served in a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. We both had the squid and the veal in breadcrumbs. It was divine. Relaxed friendly service. This is somewhere to which we’ll definitely return. It was that good.

A nice and adequately priced restaurant

What a delightful discovery this restaurant proved to be! We arrived slightly early for our booking and the room was almost empty. It soon filled up and one got the impression there were a number of regulars and returning guests. The starters we chose were the Palma ham and melon and the Pasta e Fagioli   which my wife enthused over. The main courses were a special of the day mixed seafood linguine which was wonderful and the Ravioli del Buongustaio  which was, without doubt, the most intensely flavoured and delicious pasta dish I have ever tasted! The service was leisurely but completely efficient and helpful and we are delighted to make this one of our go-to restaurants in London. A hidden treasure that is well worth visiting if you enjoy top class Italian food in a family run restaurant.

But it's more than that. They take great care to ensure their customers have a good experience and enjoy the meal. Il Vicolo was by far the worst Italian food I have ever tasted out of Italy! More than the awful food it was the entitled attitude of Bianca. Three dry melon slices with prosciutto was our starters (coming in at c.£16) melons reminded me of my student days and Tesco value food or Lidl or Costco. This was followed by the most absurd concoction of so called authentic Italian pasta (special of the day!)… ‘linguine con frutti di mare’ ie Linguini with sea food … this came with (de-frosted) Mussels and SALMON! Yes Salmon which is found in abundance in Mediterranean (sarcasm!) as it’s been sold to London public. This was an absolute disaster! More than the horrific food it was Bianca’s atrocious entitled behaviour towards my partner (who is Italian from Tuscany) and I. She wanted to convince us that this particular dish had to have salmon in it! Not only did she humiliate us (which I understand from this generation comes easy), she insulted Italian cuisine and London public. Never going back! Recommend no one should.
