We went for a meal with friends who had eaten here several times previously and rated it highly. The menu is quite small and no vegetarian options shown, although when asked there were two options available, veggie curry and cauliflower steak unfortunately neither of which appealed to me personally. I opted for the potato skins starter as a mains instead which was quite tasty but nothing I could wholeheartedly recommend. My meat eating companions chose off the chalkboard menu but were all left feeling slightly underwhelmed, cassoulet, gammon and chicken, none of which they raved about, in fact they were disappointed too as it wasn’t up to previous standards. The concept behind the pub was apparently to recapture the original Victorian feel but it just looked as if it badly needed updating. Staff were very helpful and friendly but without great food I couldn’t rate it any higher.

That was the most amazing breakfast this morning....didn't eat another thing until 7pm this evening! Thank you so much...the beans were sensational! Can't rate this place highly enough! So sorry I live so far away and can't visit all the time!

Tom's street crepes are absolutely fantastic! I had the fully loaded one and it was incredible. Definitely the best crepe I've ever had. As a loyal customer, I even got extra toppings. What a delightful experience. Thank you, Tom!

A nice little find, good service and very knowledgeable about the area. Great coffee and some very nice crepes to boot. Shout out to Lois who was very helpful when I visited

This is truly delicious, inventive, homemade, inexpensive food. I'm usually fairly underwhelmed by chicken, but this pop-up inside Ty Cwru is excellent. Makes me homesick for the US, but even better than most of the chicken you'd find there. Poutine was like a lovely chicken dinner in a bowl, but with a delicious Canadian twist. Our visiting friends loved it. Lots of different flavours to suit every palate. Go support this excellent local gem and have a beer at Ty Cwru while your at it!

Very nice dessert. They were closing so couldn't enjoy a waffle but ice creams were nice. Thanks ...

We recently rediscovered the Paysanne, after several years away. The host, Cai, is just as welcoming and ebullient as ever, and the food every bit as good as we remember. Menus in some places are so pretentious these days, but not here. Mouth-wateringly descriptive, but when the plates arrive, you'd probably think understated. We had a family visit to a " fish special" event and were absolutely wowed by what was on offer. Flavour combinations to wake even the most jaded palate just kept coming. A comprehensive wine list is another bonus, and the convivial atmosphere just made the gathering very special.

Fabulous hidden gem. Lovely range of home made food. We had a quick lunch break at work and enjoyed a toasted sandwich and Welsh rarebit. Delicious! They are licensed too, so have a glass of wine...

Visited Cefn Hafod as a last minute meal out. Really nice to see a village pub still going. Good parking. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The food was fantastic, partner and I agreed the steak was the best we've ever had! Even the little one cleared his plate. Pudding was also delicious. A real hidden gem. Thank you, we will be back soon and will be telling all our family and friends!

The tasting dinner was excellent and imaginative; delicious food with a lot of thought given to presentation and colour. Restaurant tables are generously spaced so there is no sense of being crammed in, and the decor in blues, greys and white is cool and elegant. We found the background music in the seating area around the woodburner rather too loud and intrusive, but in fairness it was less noticeable once we were seated. Rachel and her small team were friendly and welcoming and we were pleased to see Andrew do his stuff at the tables after the meal. A really good experience for a special celebration. We spent two nights in one of their comfortable rooms; a good bed, with a pleasant view up towards the castle. Slight problem with stiff shower controls, which led to a minor flood, but no doubt that will have been sorted. Our only gripe was that after our first night the used tea-things in the bedroom were not taken away, the sodden bath-towels not replaced and the bed not made up. However Rachel prepared an excellent Sunday morning breakfast, and we left in good spirits.

Simply the best restaurant we know A unique old rectory with original features. Serving a taster menu full of eclectic goodies many of which are home produced or locally sourced. A fixed menu that changes monthly, but always features a heaven sent Cheese soufflés. Couple this with a friendly atmosphere…….it’s simply the best!!!
