Duncans Tearoom

Richmond West, Richmondshire, >100£
07/03/2020: We were delighted with this tearoom. We went on a Saturday so needed to reserve a table for lunchtime. There was a very good range of dishes and cakes, including many gluten-free and vegan options and also more traditional choices. We took our dog as the manager had explained they could comfortably accommodate 2 dogs at a time. The food was delicious, waitresses friendly and best of all ( ...for me, a tea-fan ) they had real loose leaf tea. Will always go to this tearoom if I am visiting Richmond.
07/03/2020: We stumbled across this tea room on a recent visit to Richmond. The service from start to finish from the young lady and young lad was first class. I went for the bacon & egg sandwich was absolutely lovely & the full English for the Mrs was spot on. The tea for two was more like tea for 6 but again was really good. If you are in Richmond please visit this place. We didn’t get chance but the cakes looked fantastic. Next time perhaps.

Mocha

Richmond West, Richmondshire
13/06/2020: The coffee us delicious and the cakes and chocolates are to die for. If you are in Richmond North Yorkshire visit this place. Added bonus is it is dog friendly and the staff are lovely.
20/05/2020: We have infrequent visitors to Richmond, visiting the nearby Altberg factory for boots as required. Whenever visiting we try to make a day of it, go walking and always try to pop in to town and get a bite to eat. I had looaked at mocha previously but not being a big chocolate fan dismissed it (if its not dairy milk then its not for me) however i had my arm bent by the Mrs and we visited as a family of two adults and a toddler. Being late morning on a nippy spring day, just before lockdown 2020, the place was busy. However a lady, clearly a regular sat on her own made space for us and welcomed us. Ideally near to the window so our little boy could be amazed by the trainset in the window. The service was polite, efficient and welcoming and our drinks and cakes arrived without delay, but at the same time without indecent haste. The food was way above average and as someone indifferent to chocolate I was easily able to find something to my taste. Sometimes at these cafes it is the little things that count and it was lovely and thoughtful that they brought our little boy a cooled hot choc so he could get stuck in straight away and averted any kerfuffle. We also visited the loo which is hidden away in the cellar. I find you can often measure an establishment by the loos and on this occasion the loo did not disappoint, clean, smelled lovely and did the job.We will be back.

The Noted Pie Shop

Richmond West, Richmondshire
21/05/2020: I've seen this shop a few times when in Richmond, but never had the opportunity to go in. This time I am very glad I did. There is a large selection of quiche. I bought 4 different types cold and took them home. I loved all but one, but that was personal taste thing, the missues loved all four. They put the usual supermarket stuff to shame. They freeze well too.The scotch eggs were a delight too, we managed to get through them all on the way home - oops!Close to me there is a company selling scotch eggs for a fiver a piece, these are just as good and a range which the shop should consider expanding!
11/02/2020: If you love a great pie visit this shop in Richmond North Yorkshire - taste is important and you get the full taste in their pies. Highly recommended

Sip coffee

Richmond West, Richmondshire
16/03/2020: Visited whilst staying in Richmond. There are many coffee shops on the main Street but this one is a not to miss. The lady was SO friendly, tables clean and seems to be popular with the locals. When we called the lady, could be owner, was trying to get ingredients to batch Cook for her elderly regulars, how kind is that. There was a good choice of very reasonable priced cakes including a good range of gluten free
29/01/2020: A small welcoming cafe in the heart of Richmond. Very welcoming and obliging. Great coffee and breakfast.

Wilfred Deli and Pantry

Richmond West, Richmondshire
05/03/2020: Having tried this Deli when we last stayed in Richmond, we felt compelled to go back to see if their very high standards had been maintained.Well praise be...they had, and some.It was difficult to pick a favourite, from the various savoury rolls, wonderful cheeses, salads and so on.But for me the Lemon Meringue Pie stoke the show and I have to say that we tried something every day we were in Richmond. I am a savoury kind of person, but the meringue pie had a wonderful balance of citrus and sweetness and the pastry was divine, with a crunchy finish.I understand that one of the owners mother makes the lemon curd for the pies.I hope I haven’t judged too soon, as I am just about to have a slice of their carrot cake, which I managed to grab on our final day, as on all previous days they had sold out.Lovely friendly people serving in the shop and the owner and his mother gave us the time of day. BRAVO!
29/01/2020: Great find: light lunch of homemade soup, salmon en papillote with roasted squash. Delicious! Excellent bottle of rosé purchased too. Such a friendly, relaxed and personable welcome.

Rustique

Richmond West, Richmondshire, >100£
28/06/2020: Great restaurant food fab went has a family really helpful will be back had the lunch time menu great for the price
20/03/2020: Great atmostphere. Sandwiched between two buildings this covered courtyard with its mural of a Paris scene is great fun. Choose to sit outside 'a la Francais' or within the restaurant itself. Attention by the staff is first rate and they are very helpful.I enjoyed the confit duck leg with red cabbage and green beans and lovely Dauphinoise potations. Duck skin could have been more crispy thought.Husband chose the special of port belly. This turned out to be a joint of pork loin which could have served four as part of a roast dinner. Bit over-done too.Unfortunately my daughter's venison rump was for the most part tough, which is unusual for that cut of meat. This all sounds rather negative but please don't be put off, our starters of fish goujons and aoili were delicious and very moreish as were the scallops. The house wine also delicious. Portions are plentiful.Hop over to Paris for lunch or dejeurne - no passport required !

15/03/2020: very clean and nice food with cheap prices and a good choice, great layout with plenty going on in the centre of town, rooms are available but did not stay here will visit again when in Richmond
03/03/2020: We come to Richmond a few times a year as we stay in Flowery dell lodges . We have tried many places for food but this is definitely my favourite . Always fresh and piping hot and good choices . We had Sunday lunch and the meat was cooked perfectly . A dog friendly establishment with very friendly and helpful staff . Give this place a go , it might not look a great deal from the outside but the food is top notch and very reasonably priced .

Granny’s Kitchen

Richmond West, Richmondshire
09/03/2020: We have visited Richmond on many occasions but this is the first time we came across this wonderful cafe. Tucked away down a tiny passage it is a real hidden gem.The food we ordered was all freshly made, of excellent quality and reasonably priced. The staff were attentive and friendly. There is a really tempting selection of homemade bakes, bread and pies available to eat in or take away.Dogs are only welcome in the downstairs part of the cafe. Will definitely recommend to friends and return again.
15/02/2020: A little bit wild and woolly in Richmond today but it didn't spoil a lovely lunch at Granny's Kitchen. A chance to warm up and fill up. The wonderful food is home-made and the menu offers enough variety to satisfy the pickiest of eaters (including the little ones). The Team were attentive without being intrusive and the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. Beware if you have a fondness for scones, cakes and tarts.....the choice available made deciding which one to have challenging. We shall be back again

29/01/2020: Visited here twice for breakfast during our recent stay in Richmond. My husband rated the sausage and bacon sandwich that much he had it both times, it certainly kept him full all day. Cross View Tea Rooms and Restaurant

Richmond West, Richmondshire
20/02/2020: This has been a favourite of ours for years but our last visit was very disappointing. The vegetables were overcooked and portions meager. It appears to have recently changed ownership and the staff looked totally uninterested. Not sure we'll be gracing the doors again for sometime

The Golden Lion

Richmond West, Richmondshire
20/03/2020: Great bar where you can always interact with the very friendly locals for some well humoured banter. Drinks prices are some of the cheapest anywhere and all are well kept and served. This is what real pubs are meant to be like - genuine and welcoming and I hope it never changes. Absolutely brill.
29/01/2020: If I had to describe the archetypical ordinary British pub, I’d probably mention decent ale, friendly barmaid, real fire in the grate, football on the telly, music on the jukebox, friendly locals and a few lads playing darts. Welcome to the Golden Lion in Richmond!

Costa

Richmond West, Richmondshire
27/02/2020: Went in here while I was in Richmond. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. The store was clean . The drink was good and staff listened to what I told them.
22/11/2019: Ok branch. Staff not as friendly as some branches. Not as good selection of newspapers to read. Coffee cups decorations hanging from ceiling looked good. Reasonably busy considering there is a lot of competition locally in the Market Place. Food good. A good stopping place on way to Dales. Don’t forget your parking disc for the town. Prices good. Use reward card.

Jeffersons of Richmond

Richmond West, Richmondshire
04/03/2020: We were looking through the window of the cafe next door. The proprietor of Jeffersons ambushed us to go into his cafe instead .After showing us the menu and telling us his food was much better than the cafe next door we decided to leave.. When leaving he said to us"thank you for wasting my time". We then turned back and went back into the first cafe and he pulled faces and shaking his head at us. Does this person really want customers? So rude. Would not eat there are any cost.
02/03/2020: We came across Jeffersons by chance, just after visiting the Georgian Theatre Royal for a tour. By 4 p.m. on Monday 2nd March, we walked past a couple of other closed cafes and decided to avoid the ubiquitous Costa in favour of supporting a local business. Our tenacity paid off, as we discovered Jeffersons. Gary was lovely to chat to, and the food was great - proper home-made bread pudding and a tea cake which was enormous. Proper Darjeeling tea ( yes, loose leaf with a strainer just as we would have it at home ). Thanks Gary - the style and ambience is unique.

Castle Tavern

Richmond West, Richmondshire, <20£
27/03/2020: our room was a good size and had a sofa in. High standard of accommodation . our breakfast was lovely and high quality products was used. Staff was friendly and helpful
03/01/2020: Visited this establishment for New Years Eve and Day with our friends to celebrate. The break began fabulously. Great rooms, lovely relaxed atmosphere, good bar prices, only 10 of us staying in the pub taking all 5 rooms for two nights. Breakfast on NY Day awesome, plenty of choice although you do have to order night before it was local produce, freshly cooked and delicious. We went out to explore Richmond only to receive a message to say there had been a mix up and our friends staying in 3 of the rooms could not stay NY day night as their rooms were booked! Our friend had 3 emails confirming this but they were still told the 2 of the rooms were booked. On our return we were apologised to and told it was due to mix up by previous owners, we had all booked in February and we found out the new guests had only booked the rooms a couple of days previously. This put a dampener on the rest of our stay as our friends had no choice but to go home!. We stayed and made the best of it. Donna went out of her way to make us welcome, late lunch and breakfast the next morning were fabulous and again delicious! The landlady also apologised again the next day and we suggested she contact any other guests booked with them to make sure their bookings were correct before taking more. This would have been a lovely celebration and start to 2020 but was marred by a massive mistake made by the new owners. Such a shame as the rooms, food and bar are great value for money. The tavern is also in a great location to explore Richmond and surrounding areas.
