Mocha in Richmondshire

We’ve been meaning to visit Mocha for ages but it’s always full, good sign ! We weren’t disappointed, lovely coffee, staff, food & surroundings & you get a handmade chocolate with your drink, what more could you ask for. 😊

A revisit proved worthwhile. It was busy but service, coffee and complimentary chocolate (according to my wife) were all excellent. We will return. #callitasiexperienceit

What a marvelous place to stop for hot chocolate and cake. Very friendly staff and customers, Molly our puppy enjoyed her dog treats. Our first visit,but will not be out last. Thank you all

This is a little gem of a 'coffee' shop. It is so much more than just a coffee shop and I would like to keep it secret so only I would know it was there, but that would be greedy. You won't like it at all! I would like to try all of their chocolates and chocolate drinks and cakes and scones and...and....and...everything!! The hot chocolate is made with proper chocolate and you can have milk, 57% chocolate or 70% chocolate. One of the locals suggested trying the 57% with Baileys....it was glorious. It's just as well I don't live in Richmond....but they do mail order. Mmmmmm

Visited for breakfast. Lovely white toast from celebrated Richmond local bakery Angels Share which was just lovely with strawberry jam from Raydale Preserves in Hawes. Sounds simple but really delivered. Much better than rival cafes in the area.

Great place for a hot chocolate coffee or tea and cake .. we had the ginger cake with lemon icing wow!!! Hot chocolate in all sorts of varieties and good tea too .. great place!!

Lovely atmosphere and staff. Hot chocolate is amazing. The chocolates are just perfect with variety and good quality chocolate.

An excellent place to have lunch. It offered a variety of meals as well as their home made chocolates. Friendly staff and well worth a visit.

popped in for a quick coffee and bought some chocs to go. I've had the firey fred before but this batch was mega strong. Not for the faint hearted, or those with a heart powered by pace maker.

We turned up shortly before closing and between us had a mixture of coffes, cakes, bagels, beans on toast and waffles. All were absolutely delicious. Exactly what we needed! Really had a sense that the friendly staff are a team and enjoy working here. Will definitely return and may succumb to the amazing chocolates when we do!

Excellent coffee and hot chocolates, you can even choose what type of hot chocolate you want,white,milk or dark chocolate. Staff very friendly. Must recommend the toasted cheese scone!

Such a variety of delicious chocolates made on site, I can always find a reason to treat myself to some, they are so tasty. Very friendly informative staff.

Didn't expect too much when looking from the outside (I had not seen any reviews at this point). Popped in with family and our dog (thanks for being dog friendly) and considering i am very fussy about by coffee i awaited the drinks - prepared for disappointment (I am a grumpy old man ;-) - well i got the 2 coffees (latte) and they were spot on (just how we had requested them - extra hot) - and served with a lovely chocolate ;-) then one my kids got an ice cream .. again absolutely spot on - a very happy child and one happy parent (very impressive serving). Wife then ordered some food and again was presented nicely and not just thrown on the plate. The icing on the cake for me visiting this shop though (other than the chocolates that the family bought) was the service from all the staff - so polite and cheerful. whatever the boss is doing he/she/they are obviously doing it how i would do it - stay small, retain the high standards - and anyone reading this go there (p.s. i expect a 2nd free chocolate if i am ever in Richmond again ;-)

We enjoyed this so much that we spent 2 sessions on the same day - food and service both excellent whilst watching chocolate boxes being chosen was an excellent spectator sport.

I was visiting Richmond for the first time and came across this shop. I chose a box of nine chocolates from the vast array on offer and was not disappointed. If you prefer dark chocolate, I would recommend the Cherry in Kirsch, Bitter Orange and the Stem Ginger all absolutely gorgeous rich tasty chocolates. I have one a day with a good quality coffee and had the last one today. I will definitely be looking to order on line.

We visited Mocha as I am a big Chocolate fan and the reviews were so good. We sat outside at a cleared table. The staff took our order promptly and on their recommendation I ordered the Dark Chocolate drink with one of their Toasted Cheese Scones which was amazing that melted in your mouth. My husband ordered an American with one their also amazing Fruit Scones which also in turn melted in your mouth. With our drinks we were both also given a beautiful truffle,their scones were the best we have both ever had and are highly recommended. I bought some of their 70% drinking chocolate to take home.The staff were attentive, pleasant and couldn't be more helpful.

Excellent find for lunch before hike the Yorkshire rarebit was so tasty and the doorstop sandwich proved to be a challenge for my husband's healthy appetite again delicious. Even my little dog had a treat. We could not manage a cake however they looked so tempting that I bought two slices each of the jam sandwich cake and ginger which accompanied us on our hike and were delicious

On a day out with one Vegan, one Vegetarian and a carnivore all feeling just a tad peckish we found this fabulous place, catering for all of us. The service was exemplary, the ambience fabulous and the food simply divine. Even the coffee and the teas were definitely out of the ordinary. And the cake... oh, those cakes... naughty but nice doesn't do it justice, they were simply the best, better than all the rest... LOL (Thanks Tina...)Altogether a place to experience when visiting this gorgeous Yorkshire market town.

I’m almost lost for enough complimentary words to describe the excellence of this gem. Attentive. Excellent coffee. Very nice environment. Central location. And and and the truly extraordinary choice of cakes and the tour de force offerings of chocolates. A truly brilliant place. Thanks to all those who uphold the finest in the cafe plus experience. And when you leave no problem they have a web site to keep your happy memories alive.

My wife and I were last here in September 20 and it great to be back enjoying great coffees and scones . My wife had a feta cheese dish which she really enjoyed. Prices aok Staff very pleasant and efficient.👍👍👍😎

First I will say that the mocha here was so excellent! I would I recommend it and I would go back. I’m from NYC and have traveled a bunch and had a lot of great food and drink and I would say this was definitely the best mocha I’ve ever had. The cafe is cool and the ladies who helped us the first day were very friendly and helpful and inviting. We came back the next day, so excited to have the coffee again! But the service was really not as good the second time. First of all, I came in at a little after 4:10pm. The cafe closes at 4:30, but the woman at the counter clearly seemed disappointed to be taking more drink orders at that time. To me I think that is just very bad business and if I were the owner I wouldn’t be pleased. Customers should never be made to feel they are putting you out by spending money at your establishment. I ordered four coffees and I even tried to make pleasant conversation and she just seemed pretty flat and flustered. I got the feeling maybe she was new or something. After I ordered my drinks, I told her I wanted to choose some chocolates as well and she told me that chocolates come free with each coffee. i actually meant that i wanted to choose some chocolates to buy from the elaborate display full of chocolate that takes up the front of the store. Since she obviously wasnt in the mood to sell anything i just said ok and took the free chocolate. i honestly felt like she just wanted me out so they could close up. like i said, it was disappointing. but on the other hand, the mochas were good enough that i would go back. we just came down from scotland for a weekend holiday so dont know when we'll be back again but i would definitely be back for a third try just for the coffee and maybe the next time the counterperson would be interested in selling me some chocolates as well. it was good enough the first time that the treatment the second time definitely was a bubble burster. Maybe when you have such a great product you dont have to put as much effort into customer service but it would definitely be awesome to have both!!

Visited this place on Thursday. I received lovely friendly service and the coffee was nice. Also received a complimentary truffle which was very nice.

A specialist in chocolate they claim and this is certainly backed up by the delicious hot chocolate drinks on offer - a nice range too, as you’d imagine. I went for the salted caramel. Many shoppers coming to pick bespoke choc boxes for Christmas as the friendly staff served us with kindness. To improve they need to have a designated member of staff managing the queue as there were empty tables and we were queued outside behind people only popping in to buy choc boxes. Staff all seemed busy but customer flow neglected. Make yourself known if this happens to you - it’ll be worth it, enjoy!

Wandering around the market place, we noticed the excellent selection of chocolates in the window and decided to stop for a coffee and bite to eat. Definitely a good decision. The food and coffees were excellent, served by pleasant staff. The chocolate served with the coffee was delicious, and we had to buy some to take away with us! Will definitely go back next time we are in Richmond.

Called in here on way up to northern dales, on strength of tripadviser reviews. Well worth it. Only small, lucky to get a table mid am. Both had hot mochas and shared a waffle with chocolate sauce. Absolutely gorgeous. Difficult to come away without buying a few crocs for later. Look forward to returning.

Went here with a friend and 2 dogs which was catered for really well. They had vegan options for everything which is great! Our coffees were lovely and we both had deserts which were delicious too. The selection of chocolates they have is insane, I bought 3 boxes as gifts - very reasonably priced. Lovely wee cosy vibe inside and the staff were all so friendly and attentive. Would go back!

Great find, search out and enjoy. Very good door steps, savoury scones or scrabbled eggs. Hot chocolate a real hit. Nice touches of a chocolate with tea and a taster chocolate.

Great little find on our family walk from Brompton Lakes into Richmond. We were quickly welcomed including our dirty wellies and cockerpoo (dog)!We were seated, felt very COVID safe and ordered lunch which was amazing! My daughter used the full hour to decide on the chocolates to buy as we left - everything was delicious and bringing some of those amazing truffles home with us was a must!

It was time for a mid-afternoon snack and we were recommended by friends to try Mocha. For the first time in my life, I decided on a Mocha, made with the darkest chocolate. Wow, it was Heaven in a cup, especially as it came with a home made truffle! I also had a toasted cheese scone and the other half had an American bagel. Both were excellent, as were the lovely girls serving us. Can't wait to return when in the area!

Lovely food and coffee. Free truffle was to die for so bought a pack! Had bagel, millionaires and a tea cake for my husband.

Luckily this cafe is open later than some others on a Sundayso we came in for a cup of tea (served with a delicious chocolate) and one of their excellent small Bakewell tarts. Their homemade chocolates look amazing.

Lovely coffee and goodies! The chocolate truffle with your drink is a lovely touch...and delicious too. The toasted tea cakes are yummy as is the cheese scone. The scone has a bit of a hit to it ( mustard possibly) which makes it so delicious. Staff very friendly and efficient and on top of Covid regulations. Thank you

Just a friendly easy place to grab a bite to eat. A drawback (?) is that it is difficult to avoid the chocolates. Our regular Richmond stopping point. Being dog-friendly is a bonus.

Wonderful to be back in this gem of a coffee shop. Excellent service from friendly staff, delicious iced mocha and scones and our dog was given his own treat. The chocolates are the best. Fully Covid compliant and we felt very safe.

We always call at this venue for a coffee and scones. Today was no different and the service was good and flat whites were excellent as per usual.Atmosphere not quite as it was but less tables doesn’t help to create a buzz.Will be back when we are next in the area

Having stayed locally and after owners recommendation we ventured across the busy market place to Mocha. Small seating area but good covid procedures in place. Beautiful food and drink selection. We sampled alot - milkshakes, bagels, coffees, scones and everything was delicious. Vast amount of chocolates to choose from. Very enjoyable

We have family in the area so we're regulars and I always try to get to Mocha for one of their fabulous coffees and some amazing chocolates. The team are always super friendly and their home made cakes are hard to resist. It was great to see them ramp up their delivery service during lockdown although this will make it even harder to resist when we're not visiting!Keep doing what you're doing and I hope this lovely local business can keep going during these very difficult times.

We found this place by accident because we were drawn to the little Hornby railway going round in the front window, and then looked at what was inside.We only had a takeaway, as the shop was full, but my god it was delicious. The staff were lovely and extremely helpful, and the chocolates and cakes on display looked utterly heavenly.A nice touch was that the waiting area for takeaways is outside, so you’re not awkwardly standing around people eating while you wait.We’ll definitely be back again the next time we’re in Richmond.

Popped in here for quick lunch. Really impressed by fantastic customer service and extremely tasty food plus great coffees. Very dog friendly too. Lunch was followed by complimentary chocolate that had just been made - quite delicious 😋

We come here regularly, and absolutely love it. The staff are really cheerful and welcoming, and the food and drink are fab.

We are so glad to have found this wonderful little cafe!The bagels we ordered were delicious but there is no way to describe how amazing the hot chocolates were! I would highly recommend to anyone in the area- the service is very friendly and there is so much choice!During our visit we were comforted to find the staff were very thorough with making sure COVID procedures were followed- the Track and trace system and we witnessed thorough cleaning. We certainly felt safe during our visit and we enjoyed every minute we spent in this busy little place.

Called into Mocha over three days in August 2020 and purchased the Strawberry & Banana Smoothie with Strawberry & Cream Baileys Liquor. All three Smoothies were totally excellent...can't wait to visit Richmond again for "another go"

When planning a family trip to Richmond (4 of us) with the dog I came across Mocha online and it looked great. We made it our first stop when we arrived on a sunny day in August. I noticed an older couple sat outside at a little bistro table with their drinks. A family went in ahead of us, so we waited by the door. Noone acknowledged us but I assumed we were just the start of a queue so waited patiently at the door for a vacant table. A table became available after 5 or 10 minutes. It would easily have seated 6 people (big corner bench area). The old couple sat outside immediately jumped up, grabbed their drinks and went ahead of us, greeting the staff by name, and claiming the large seating area. They already had their table and it was very cheeky to ignore us waiting. We were shocked at their rudeness and the staff didn’t bat an eyelid. The impression I got is that Mocha is for local residents and if 2 of them want 6 seats leaving visitors with nothing so be it. I reluctantly bought ice creams so as not to disappoint the kids and tried to mention what had happened to a member of staff who just whispered ‘sorry’. Very disappointing experience.

This is clearly a very popular place serving nice food and drinks. My only disappointment is the very poor access for wheelchair provision. No ramp up over the large front door step. Dog friendly and chocs and ccffee to buy are again popular targets for visitors. Very nice staff!

Just go. They make most of the chocolates on site. The ice creams, bought in locally, are also stunning. They do a mean coffee...

Stopped for lunch here because of its central location and we were delighted with our luck. This is a little gem. We couldn't resist buying some chocolates to take home with us. They were fab too.

Had hot chocolates and lattes today. Both came with gorgeous salted toffee truffle which was so good as bought a box full as a present. Very pleased to be given a track and trace form to complete- first time this week!

The coffee us delicious and the cakes and chocolates are to die for. If you are in Richmond North Yorkshire visit this place. Added bonus is it is dog friendly and the staff are lovely.

We have infrequent visitors to Richmond, visiting the nearby Altberg factory for boots as required. Whenever visiting we try to make a day of it, go walking and always try to pop in to town and get a bite to eat. I had looaked at mocha previously but not being a big chocolate fan dismissed it (if its not dairy milk then its not for me) however i had my arm bent by the Mrs and we visited as a family of two adults and a toddler. Being late morning on a nippy spring day, just before lockdown 2020, the place was busy. However a lady, clearly a regular sat on her own made space for us and welcomed us. Ideally near to the window so our little boy could be amazed by the trainset in the window.The service was polite, efficient and welcoming and our drinks and cakes arrived without delay, but at the same time without indecent haste. The food was way above average and as someone indifferent to chocolate I was easily able to find something to my taste. Sometimes at these cafes it is the little things that count and it was lovely and thoughtful that they brought our little boy a cooled hot choc so he could get stuck in straight away and averted any kerfuffle.We also visited the loo which is hidden away in the cellar. I find you can often measure an establishment by the loos and on this occasion the loo did not disappoint, clean, smelled lovely and did the job.We will be back.

Visited for first time today and had the best hot chocolate I’ve had anywhere. You can have white, milk, dark or extra dark hot chocolate. My husband had the mocha which was also fabulous. Great cakes and a huge choice of chocolates as well. Extremely friendly staff make this a delightful place to visit. There’s also lots of tempting food choices as well as cakes. Will definitely visit again. Highly recommended.

This is a very welcoming and dog friendly cafe. The coffee is good and comes with a delicious homemade chocolate. Even the dog got a biscuit.

Brilliant they source their produce from local companies. Food is fresh, colourful, tasty, good value and great coffee - dogs welcome!

What a great cup of coffee, but take a back seat if you go in with a dog. The staff go head over heels to treat your pet and say hello. The most dog friendly coffee house on earth. The coffee and staff are great too!

We stumbled across this shop looking for a cafe to have a drink and couldn’t have chosen better. The service was friendly and excellent and the range of chocolates for sale is fabulous, best we have tasted for a long time. Went in for a drink only but wer3 given a chocolate with our drink and a chance to sample 2 new delicious chocolates, ginger and jam roly poly. Needless to say we also came out with a bag of chocolates. An excellent find

A great little find in Richmond, gave visited several times. Always a friendly welcome and great service. Fantastic selection of chocolates, the Rose Turkish Delight is delicious, and cakes. The Vegan Chocolate Cake was light with a rich, creamy icing. Well worth a visit.

Came here for afternoon tea with my sister (who had the lime and coconut cake), and the vegan chocolate cake was just beyond words. So creamy and with a vegan truffle on the top. Just amazing.

Delicious coffee and chocolates. The mocha coffee and hot chocolate are the best we’ve had in the U.K. There is a choice of milk, dark and extra dark. We both tried the dark (for a mocha and a hot chocolate with orange). The mocha was intense, with deep chocolate flavour but where the coffee flavour blended well. It wasn’t overly sweet (a problem with mocha in the U.K. but less a problem than in the USA). The hot chocolate was fantastic. The orange flavour didn’t fight to stand out and blended brilliantly with the dark deep not-too-sweet chocolate. Both were as good as what we get in Belgium and among the best chocolate based drinks we’ve had anywhere. We have been returning every day of our visit for hot drinks.

Stayed in Richmond for a week and visited Mocha a few times when we were in the town. Both times we had coffee and also ate there too. Have to say what a lovely shop. All the staff were very friendly and made us and our dog welcome (she enjoyed getting spoilt with biscuits). The coffee was great and all the food we had was equally of a high standard. Also purchased a fair few chocolates although the choice is huge and hard to decide which ones to buy hence buying quite a few. If you’re in Richmond then highly recommended visiting Mocha, you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent quality coffee with plenty of choice and equally high quality hot chocolate dunks, again with a good deal of choice. Their home made chocolates are very, very good and excellent value for money. Friendly service and welcome for dogs, all round a super shop very conveniently located in the middle of Richmond, Yorkshire.

The food is good, and the desserts (OK - chocolate) is exceptional. Its not always easy to get a seat as it is a popular destination, but if the projected wait is not long then i'd say it was worth it. Somehow, we always seem to leave with choccies. I don't know how that works!

Just great coffee and lovely service, nice touch getting a small chocolate to have with my fabulous decaf flat white.

It's in the title - but the quality and variety of coffees and cocoas, and mocha combinations - are amazing! Extra touch of a handmade salted caramel truffle on the side says it all - friendly, helpful staff - it can be hard to choose from these lovely products!

Had a great lunch there on Tuesday, can recommend it to all visitors or residents, will certainly visit again, a big thank you to all staff, and for helping my wife Barbara who has dementia, and for catering for her celiac disease. The Wrinklies

This cafe was a pleasant surprise as we walked through Richmond. They sell a nice selection of lunchtime dishes and homemade cakes, along with good value hot drinks. A substantial display of artisan handmade chocolates are on offer also. The staff were very friendly and offered a speedy service with a smile. We would highly recommend.

Nice place but fo me the quality was poor for my standards.I order drink and never drink it, it was very poor.

Just nipped in to get my daughter an ice cream and ended up getting myself a delicious dark Belgian chocolate hot chocolate to take away - they make drinks with a selection of dairy free milks and I don't think I was charged any extra for that. I was even given a free vegan truffle to go with it!

This place is central in Market square, not too big only 6 or 7 tables but definitely worth a visit, the coffee we has was very good and we both had a scone with jam and cream - delicious. If you want a big meal then this isn't the place for you, but for lite bites I don't think you'll get better in Richmond. They also sell individual chocolates, the range of flavours is huge, there are many flavours we haven't seen elsewhere so if you want to try, or buy something different, then this is the place for you. Our food was served quickly and the staff were very nice and efficient. We will definitely return next time we are in Richmond.

Popped in for a quick milkshake and a coffee as it was pouring down but couldn't resist buying a few of the 118 different flavoured individual chocolate selection they have. (they also do a range of kid friendly shaped chocolates)

A local lady pointed us in the direction of Mocca when we were desperately looking for a decent cup of coffee ..... what a wonderful place - the choice of hand made chocolates is so extensive you would have to visit many times and the coffees and hot chocolates are excellent - try the dark hot chocolate with orange...yummy.

We were roasting today (90f) and got an ice cream to cool off. The. Chocolate cone was rich and creamy, just delicious!

My wife and I traveled to Richmond for a day out.

Stopped with the dog for a drink while travelling and it was a lovely little place. Small menu and tables close together but made for a friendly atmosphere and food we had was lovely.

Firstly I would like to say this place serves the best hot chocolate, the best cake and the best ice-cream in Richmond!!

Visit Mocha whenever in Richmond and alway find a warm welcome awaiting. The variety of homemade cakes compliment the perfect coffee and if your into chocolates then this is the place with a huge variety of handmade goodies.

Excellent customer service, friendly staff and great food (and chocolate). An excellent small cafe, clean and tidy.

Found this gem when we stopped off for a quick coffee and leg stretch.

Called in for a brew and some chocolates. So glad we did. Great drink, cakes and chocolates. I left with a £20 box of 24 chocolates as a gift. The staff are so friendly and polite.

Great place, great coffee, great staff and GREAT chocolates........what else is there to say other than we will of course do a return visit.

This place is great, the service is brilliant and the drinks are truly scrumptious. Best hot chocolate we have had. The cakes are delicious and they have the biggest choice of chocolates I've ever seen. It is quite a small venue if you have a pram or wheelchair.

Nice pleasant walk by the waterfall in breezie conditions followed with a very pleasant latte and light lunch. I had the Porkie Ploughman, whilst my wife tried the 3 cheese special, very well presented and of ample quantity, would recommend and use again.

A great selection of hot chocolate. I opted for the Bailey's but could have had so many more. The tea cakes were big and tasty. The chocolates looked amazing.

Cannot speak highly enough of this establishment. The owner/manager and his staff provided friendly and efficient service. But of most was the quality of their product. Do yourself a favour and drop in for a coffee and chocolate!

We last visited Mocha in April of this year and when we returned to the same nearby lodges, we called in 3 times during our long weekend. Fabulous coffee, great cakes and so dog friendly! We were able to sample a range of the wonderful cakes and chocolates and will definitely be back when we next visit the area.

Oh wow! Just see all the fantastic chocolate treats on offer. We called in for coffee, and left with a bag of hand made chocolates.
