The Golden Lion in Richmondshire

Would have been 5 if barmaid hadn't put a full bottle of tonic in our gin. You serve it so customer puts what they want in and had to ask fir a slice of lemon 🍋

Just arrived in Richmond and was looking for lunch as it was 11.40am. Went into the Golden Lion and asked if they did food as there were several men in drinking , was told no, so i asked if we could just use there toilet as been travelling for over 2 and a half hours. Young lady said yes thats fine. The next day we had been on a long walk with the dog and fancied a cold 1 so decided to go back to the Golden Lion to find a white piece of A4 paper on the door saying TOILETS FOR CUSTOMERS ONLY. lol. still went into the beer garden and got 2 drinks. When leaving 30 minutes later the A4 sign had gone. The geordie owners seamed very nice............REALLY... sweet FA customer service. my best friend is a geordie and when i told him he was disgusted... AVOID unless you like horse racing..............

Went in here after been to ripon races. Staff friendly. Music good. Drink reasonable priced

We arrived to a pub packed with all ages, music was fantastic provided by dj Keith. Such a friendly crowd and it was a karaoke night! Brilliant and entertaining evening

Landlord and landlady working the bar they remebered our round of drinks, the pub was rammed with customers and was a friendly environment, they put free food on in the beer garden was absolutely great will be going back again next time we visit

Had a blast here. Great atmosphere on a Saturday night with the karaoke. Quite a young crowd and pub was packed but if you want a sing a long and great atmosphere and don't mind plastic glasses then here in a Saturday night.

So dissatisfied more like a cheap cafe Sundaylunch than Christmas dinner no coffee offered no mince pies no hardley any vegetables. the desserts were disgusting what a disappointing experience won’t be going again

What better way to spend a Monday afternoon as tourists! Cheeky pint. Great pub, obviously loved by the locals. Friendly staff, horse racing on tv (few bets - one winner) just an all around great place. Would definitely be my local if I lived in the area

Did not eat just had drinks which were served by a friendly lady prices reasonable sat in the beer garden around the back .would return if in richmond again

Popped in for a drink although I would have liked to have tried the food but we had already ate. They allow dogs is most areas apart from the restaurant. The lady serving was really nice and the atmosphere was good.

Average pub. Lady that served us was borderline rude. Local smack addict sat near us shouting and singing to excess which became quite annoying after a while so we left.

Was staying in Richmond overnight at the Fleece but wanted somewhere to watch the England v France rugby (wished now I hadnt). Good lively Saturday afternoon atmosphere and watched the Man City match after, cheap prices good crack and a proper English boozer.

Cheap drink but interior had a strange aroma could do with updating also why would you want a hand dryer not a foot away from the toilet 🤔 good talking point tho. Also lack of staff but that is understandable when staff are hard to find but barmaid was amazing considering the volume of customers ascending all at once.

My wife & I were on holiday in Richmond for a week and we came to view this as our temporary local, mainly due to the fact that we were made to feel so comfortable & welcome by all the staff and regulars too. It’s just a really good pub. If you’re a live sports fan, as we are (footy for us), it’s a crackin’ pub to have as an option to watch your favourite sport / team – probably the best in the town, I’d say, and I think I went in all of ‘em that had live sport on when doing a reconnaissance prior to a live game a couple of days later. Two big TVs in the first room and two even-bigger TVs outside. It’s a really good outdoor space too with a permanent covered area and quite a few other tables with parasols. You can see Richmond Castle’s main tower close up from the outside area too. It's dog friendly. The prices are excellent too in comparison with most of the other pubs in the town and the beer (Coors for us) was consistently very good throughout the week. If we ever stay in Richmond again, we look forward to making this our temporary local once more.

Called for a drink, the lady behind the bar was friendly. Price was reasonable. Small beer garden out back.

Fantastic food good price lovely staff so helpful. I was amazed by how low priced the meal are. We had a Sunday dinner it was fantastic with lovely veg and meats . would go again.

A table for six, a lovely Sunday roast, the food plentiful and competitive, the drinks equally so, and the staff pleasant, this proved an excellent choise.

Well this WAS my local but not anymore. Stand up for staff yet get kicked out for backing whats kicked off n being honest. Think you need to look at the bigger picture. Will miss this place now as have ALOT OF FRIENDS who may decide to leave after tonight

Hubby likes Marstons pubs so when we were looking for somewhere near to the bus stops (and you can't get closer than this pub!) and spotted the Marstons sign we went straight in. Good Covid procedures and female bar staff were great. Had to use sanitiser immediately and provide details, which we did. She was very friendly. However, the pub itself is cosy, traditional and the drinks were cheap BUT there were a few customers who were obviously heavy smokers as they were in and out of the back, returning smelling even more of stale smoke. This meant the pub itself had a stale smoke smells. This put me off as we have never smoked and with my hayfever/sinus issues the smell of smoke can make me cough. It's a shame that this put us off as we would have had a second drink.

Great bar where you can always interact with the very friendly locals for some well humoured banter. Drinks prices are some of the cheapest anywhere and all are well kept and served. This is what real pubs are meant to be like - genuine and welcoming and I hope it never changes. Absolutely brill.

Hosts with the most I was in for a funeral and the hosts went above and beyond to make our day they were brilliant and a big thank you to them and the staff if you are in Richmond call in and see for yourself thanks again j

If I had to describe the archetypical ordinary British pub, I’d probably mention decent ale, friendly barmaid, real fire in the grate, football on the telly, music on the jukebox, friendly locals and a few lads playing darts. Welcome to the Golden Lion in Richmond!

First time in Richmond and first pub we called in one early Saturday afternoon and what a welcome! Set the tone for the rest of the day. Very warm, chatty and friendly barmaid (lady from Northamptonshire) who clearly loves her job. And...friendly, open locals. Small pub with a good atmosphere and cheapest Moretti in town! Will definitely be back.

i was in Richmond. i thought i would trace my parents past foot steps. bioy oh boy. yes it is a great pub. clean. such lovely staff. hey i had a pint and raised a glass to my past to my parents. they would have so smiled. go visit. go. you will not be let down xx

Choice of real ale was one, take it or leave it. Turned the music up for us when we hadn't asked for it, had to request she turned it down.

We stopped in for a pint after a visit to Richmond Castle. The pub is close by. This small pub has a good atmosphere and a friendly vibe. At the time we visited, there was only one cask ale available, but it was Hobgoblin, and that's a good one! Recommended as a respite from shopping, castle and abbey visits, etc., while in Richmond.

Nice friendly pub in a beautiful village

Went to the Golden Lion on The Saturday night of our 2 night stay while in Richmond. Our friend walked in with a birthday balloon and after getting drinks, and sitting down, the landlady came over and gave our friend a birthday gin and tonic, lovely touch. Karaoke was on, but not overly loud, and we had a pleasant chat with 3 locals. Very friendly place and well worth visiting when in Richmond.

What a wonderful warm welcome at the golden lion. Very clean and well presented. Food was delicious and well presented and very reasonably priced, and to top it all very dog friendly. Will certainly call again. Loved it.

This is a traditional pub that serves excellent beer.without the need for food

Had the dog so was looking for a beer garden. No grass but what a sun trap of a beer garden we found out the back. No food but well kept good beer at a reasonable price. Friendly locals made for a good day out. Thanks
