The Station Cafe Bar in Richmondshire

Love the cinema, bakery, shopping and we go regularly. The food is also usually very nice, and was on our latest occasion. We all opted for various sandwiches which were served with a salad and chips (with soup optional). However, I have noticed on more than one occasion that some of the staff have real attitude problems. For example, turning up their noses if you haven’t pre-booked and being pedantic about where to form a queue when it is difficult for disabled or elderly people to form one in such a way as they would like. Looking at the other comments, it seems we are not the only ones to experience this. It’s a shame, as it ruins an otherwise nice experience.

Coffee with the ladies after our pilates class. A lovely setting in the old railway station, the staff are cheerful and helpful, the coffee is delicious. Lots of independent shops within the building and a lovely 3 screen cinema.

We have been coming here for years. It is a fantastic facility. The staff are always friendly and professional. It is often very busy but you won't find a harder working group of people. We can't praise them too highly. Thank you all very much.

A beautiful vintage-restored place, Includes a cinema, a large café, an open art gallery, independent art and gift shops, a very good (and expensive) bakery and a chocolate shop. There is a book corner and a few comfy chairs righr nextcto it and the atmosphere is relaxing and welcoming. Also, there are public toilets, a lot of parking and a famous ice cream shop. It's within a short walking distance to the town centre, so it's a good parking option (£3 for 4 hours!) on a visit to Richmond. You can take a walking trail some of them start here), enjoy the beautiful scenery of the river Swale, climb up to the town centre (300 meters away), have lunch and then climb down to the carpark, buy a beautiful piece of arr/craft made by a local artist (very reasonable prices) and return home. A perfect day!

Quiet when we arrived at about 3.40pm. We were shown to our table. We just wanted tea, coffee and scone and tray bake. All very nice. Lovely historic location. Nice gallery of artwork. Cinema in same building. Swimming pool adjacent and lovely walks. Maximum stay in car park is 4 hours, recent price increase. Internal photo and some of Easby Abbey which is a walk away.

Great place to meet and get refreshments. Table service works well and staff are friendly and efficient. Good outdoor space. Choice of cinemas, excellent artesan bakery , fudge, Ice cream etc. Improved further since management of restaurant and cinema taken in house. Brewery unit taken over by Yorkshire Dales Brewery.

Whilst I agree with preserving local buildings for future generations. I don't agree with over charging. We had a couple of bits of cake and drinks and it came to almost £30. Basically the same price as other local businesses that aren't charities, so not sure why the prices in the bar / restaurant ast so high. It's completely excluding people and simply catering for a lot of holiday home owners who visit the area. Whilst the service was excellent and the cakes were nice. I think the pricing really needs to be addressed, there is not even discount for permanent local residents.

Really disappointed with the unprofessional behaviour of the staff. Having travelled extensively and teach personal development, I’ve never come across a cafe with such miserable staff who speak to me as though I’m a stranger each time I come in. It’s deeply unpleasant. It’s a shame as the Station is a beautiful place to visit and dine at. If the staff are that unhappy, they should leave and not make it an unpleasant experience for those who are visiting. One manager particular today was incredibly rude to me. She left me waiting and forgot to serve me a week ago with every other member of staff passing me by without even so much as a hello. I decided to leave in the end. I never received an apology the next time I visited (today), instead she was incredibly rude to me. As a woman in my 50’s, I won’t tolerate this disrespect and won’t be visiting again. The place is beautiful, the staff in the restaurant are mostly unpleasant. Not one smile ever..apart from this particular manager very childishly jumping up and down at the counter in delight as she shared with the other member of staff about my upset.. Spiteful woman. Time for change.

First time eating at the station bistro and would definitely return and highly recommend a visit you won’t be disappointed. Shelly served us tonight and was lovely, friendly helpful and professional. Real chunky chips were amazing!! We had pizza a side, glass of wine & coffees. I look forward to returning soon.

Lovely place for a coffee, tea or snack as well as a full me. My wife and I had lunch there. We had two different meals and both were very good. The staff were all friendly and very efficient. Will eat there again.

Visited for lunch with a friend. Service was quick and all staff were friendly. We both ordered a sandwich and swapped out the harissa potatoes for chips. The sandwich was very disappointing - cheap sliced bread from a normal loaf. You have an artisan bakery next door! The bread really let the meal down.

Called in for an afternoon snack while staying in Richmond for a few days. Ordered some hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and a couple of scones. Great scones and delicious hot chocolate. We drink a lot of hot chocolate and this was certainly one of the best, if not THE best! Lovely atmosphere, good value and we will return next time we are in the area.

The station has a big restaurant and the food is excellent. 2 main cinemas and a shop selling gifts. A second hand book stall for charity.

Really great cafe bar with a variety of food for vegetarians too so yummy and reasonably priced. Cinema is very good.

What a lovely place! I am filled with admiration for the preservation trust and what they have done here....a great example for other towns and villages. Cafe, gallery, good l gift shop, cinema..... parking at £2.50 for 4 hours means that you can fit this in with a visit to the town centre.

Very happy with this cafe. It's a casual environment in the daytime. We were seen quickly and offered a table. Service was prompt but not intrusive. The toastie/flatbread offerings on menu were good and some veggie choices. Chips were very hot. My only niggle was that the brown bread that the Mediterranean veg and halloumi hot sandwich came on was nothing special and let the meal down. just a cheap soggy brown slice. A bit of quality bread would have made it perfect.

Last night we took advantage of the £5 a pizza offer which was to celebrate 5 years of the current team behind the Restaurant. We order three different flavoured Pizza's to share. All three were stunning, great flavours, well cooked. I just wish it was £5 everyday

I wasn’t impressed. My bruschetta arrived with a lot of tomatoes piled on one small thin round of bread. As well as being totally insufficient as a base for the bruschetta, it was quite burnt on the underside which wasn’t apparent until I took a biteful. No nice usher garlic and olive oil. I had to ask for another unburnt piece of bread. My tomato soup was fine though. But the bruschetta lacked oil, bread and garlic means a three star review.

There are so many good food options here. A very nice cafe, a bakery, and an ice cream shop! The cafe is open for lunch and dinner (not sure about breakfast). Their food is very good and they have great service. There are free public toilets inside that are very well maintained. The ice cream shop and bakery also make very high quality desserts! Oh and it’s also a cinema!

What a fab place! We visited for a few days and had coffee and breakfast there a couple of times. Enjoyed a circular walk from there to Easby. Some interesting art and jewellery on display and for sale, lovely ice cream shop. Cinema too. Bacon and sausage sandwich was amazing! 🙂

Had fish and chips here absolutely fantastic homemade chips fish was white and very tasty couldn’t fault it at all the wife had Moussaka gluten free she was also very impressed the place itself is very atmospheric love this place

What a beautiful place! Stopped twice at the café over the bank holiday weekend and we're bowled over, so much so that we stopped on our way home for lunch. Delicious coffee and scone one day and pizza and sweet potato fries the next time. It's a great building with a cinema, little shops and a gallery. Well worth a visit. Little tip: if you have time, visit the beautiful waterfall nearby. You will be glad you did. X

Great multi-use space - cafe/restaurant, cinema, gallery, bakery, brewery, craft area, dance studio and more. The food at the cafe is excellent and the cinema so much more enjoyable than a huge multiplex. Walkable from the town centre, and there's also a bus stop right outside. Good amount of parking (not free but negligible cost).

Took my mum & sister here at weekend , from the minute we arrived we were acknowledged & given a table . All the staff we’re really lovely & informative as to how we needed to order . We had pizza , fries , cake & wine , was really delicious . Would definitely recommend & will be making a stop off next time I’m in Richmond .

Excellent service from a pleasant and polite server. Breakfasts were hot and filling, coffee is best around. Always a relaxing ambience in the building.

Jane Ellis drawings there today were brilliant on mezzanine gallery (Artist from Reeth). Check out her work! We show there next year as The Art Crowd, Northallerton! Excited. Wonderful bakery, Goosewings jewellery is a lovely side studio, ice cream parlour, brewery, and lovely cinema! Not forgetting cafe and also gallery shop! There is a beautiful woodland walk too. A bit soggy today though

Great cosy little cinema at a beautiful location. We enjoyed a meal and a beer front the local brewery here after the movie, which was excellent as well. Friendly staff!

Jazz Night, 21st July. This special event was a 3 course meal accompanied by a 3 piece jazz ensemble with a female singer. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, interesting and filling. The easy listening jazz music made a wonderful ambiance and the singer complimented this beautifully. The table layout and unusual location in an old railway station with a high ceiling had a pleasant feeling of open space. The courses arrived at perfect intervals over the evening and every member of staff was efficient and friendly. We had a great night and will be looking out for similar events at The Station in future.

Great location,very good food and a lovely cinema also. A wonderful credit to the trust and the team of staff who work hard to make it an enjoyable experience 10 out 10, thank you.

Quirky and definitely a great place to visit. Cafes, bakery, micro brewery, gallery, shop, ice cream parlour and three screen cinema all housed in the converted Richmond Station, which closed to railway traffic in 1969. Swimming pool next door and walking along the disused railway track, as well as down to the river. Toilet facilities and pay and display parking available. Something for everyone!

Having been previously disappointed here we thought we’d give it another chance! The service was good, swift efficient and friendly. Food also much better than last time. The pizza was excellent and large too - good value. The burger was succulent and juicy and definitely a home made patty. On the strength of this visit we’d definitely return

Ive tried three times to give this place the benefit of the doubt , at lunch , at tea and dinner , each time ive been dissapointed by staff attitudes and behaviour towards customers . Lack of friendliness , its almost like they are doing us a favour by being there .

Our 'Go to' place whenever we visit Richmond. Easy parking, great staff and good snacks and drinks. The art gallery upstairs has changing exhibitions and is always worth a visit.

Ate here one evening and had an excellent pizza and salad followed by a cheesecake to die for! An excellent little shop also in the complex.

Couple days away. Cannot fault the venue, the vibe, ambiance, throughout the building, staff were delightful, concept and facilities top class. Food wonderful. Bar staff x 1 in pub bit (young lass on her own) friendly, informative and sweet. Toilets warm and clean.

Pleasant converted railway station. Now a community hub, with 3-screen cinema, artisan bakery, and microbrewery with 2 or 3 more specialist shops. There is also a restaurant and coffee shop with an art gallery with changing exhibitions above the restaurant.

We have eaten at the station many times and really love the friendly staff, cleanliness and really good quality food . They are always busy and it’s better if you can book as we have on occasions had to queue but I suppose that reflects...

H and I usually stop here for coffee and a bite on our way to Catterick Garrison. There's a fair bit to see here; galleries, micro-brewery, bakery, ice-cream parlour etc. The food is very tasty, there's a great atmosphere and the folks are so nice.

Firstly, Coke and Pepsi are not the same thing. If I order a Coke then I should receive a Coke. Not a Pepsi. It's listed on the menu as Coke. You're already rinsing people dry with the drink prices. At least serve the correct drinks....

Nice cafe, interesting location in old station. Decent black Americano didn’t try food. Only confusion is seating. Sign to say ‘wait here to be seated’ but you wait a long time. If you just sit at a free table you get served much quicker. Good...

What a fabulous way to re develop a beautiful old railway station. Superbly set up with cafe and local products as well as a cinema.

We had booked a table for 4 on the first evening their Christmas menu was served. We arrived and it was very quiet with just two tables eating. We waited at the sign stating wait here to be escorted to your table. After several minutes...

I have been to the station cafe on many occasions. Usually in the evening there is a more mature lady serving, she is so pleasant, smiles and appears happy in her work. I went on Saturday 26th November for breakfast with family. There were two women, I have been served by them in the past, one in particular is unfriendly, rude, never smiles and spoils the whole experience. Most of the other staff are reasonable but these two are spoiling what could be a professional friendly good quality meal. I agree with a previous review and name badges would be helpful. If they're so unhappy in their job, leave. My family couldn't understand why I go back as she was very rude to my daughter. It was busy but it's no excuse for her manner.

Lovely breakfast, as always. Some of the young serving staff need to improve their customer service, and learn to smile! Always the same there, great food, great surroundings, miserable young servers! I want to stress that there are some really good ones too, maybe name badges should be worn. A couple of staff are spoiling the whole place!

Been several times mid week and enjoyed the cafe. But Saturday morning. 10.15 am. Joined a queue of eight seeking a table. Seven tables available but had “reserved” signs on them. No one addressed the queue. After ten minutes wait, sought out a member of...

A fantastic night of entertainment! The food was amazing and the service was brilliant as always-nothing is too much trouble! Would highly recommend a visit.

Where to start?? We came as a table of 8 and there was only two tables of two of 4 which was fine. The two tables were apart so they said we could move a table if it came available. When one came available we moved so we had two tables next to each other and the waiting shook his hair and said we should have queued back up if we wanted to move and the waitress (shouted) that tables of stupid “full of idiots”. They then sent the manager up to shout at us to not move tables. Happy to never go back. Food looked nice from afar

Been twice in 2 weeks for brunch. One of the nicest breakfasts I've had. And well priced too. Bought some books from the book sellers that were on today and the bakery is lovely too.

The station is a great way to save something that no longer has its original use i.e. a railway station. A great structurer and a handy cafe in the centre surving a variety of eats and drinks.

My wife and I visited Saturday 20/08/22 with the dog,what a wonderful place,food was fresh,tasty and very reaonably priced,prawn sandwich and pulled beef flatbread to die for staff were so friendly,can't wait to go back

Finally, a cafe that stays open later.(7.45). Decent, varied menu, reasonable prices, pleasant staff. A cinema, gallery and shops.

I remember this when it was originally a railway station taking the last train to Darlington before it closed. I have watched it go through several different ideas in the interim years but still enjoy troops there on a regular basis I would highly recommend it as a part of any visit to the Richmond area.

Lovely friendly atmosphere, unfortunately spoilt by family with 3 children allowing them to climb over furniture, stairs and weaving in and out of customers and staff with hot drinks and food. Inconsiderate parents with children with tantrums.

Went into the station for lunch, 1st time going in to eat but pleasantly surprised by the quality of service and food. We ordered egg/mayo sandwich, and expected it to come on small plate but it came with side salad and crisps ,our coffee was a treat far better than any other coffee shops. Went for a walk along side river swale underneath the canopy of trees
