Arrived here for the night on a business trip. Lovely friendly welcome, very helpful. Beautiful village. Room was quiet which was surprising, super comfy beds, really good water pressure so good shower and bath. The food was homecooked, you have to have the chicken pie and chips!!! Unbeatable in taste and value. New family have just taken over and are really making it their own. Real fire too! A lovely stay. We will be back!!

We attended a family wedding and booked our accommodation for the night of the wedding. The bed and pillows were so comfortable, we didn't want to get up in the morning, however an amazing breakfast was waiting. There was a good selection of cereals, fresh fruit and yogurts, plus fruit juices. Then came a full English breakfast. Wow, it was so tasty, the sausages were local butcher sausages. The portions were very generous only our son in law managed to eat everything on this plate. Alison and Rachel had only gotten the keys a few days before our stay. They were so friendly and helpful. We would recommend this pub if you are looking for a village location in a beautiful village.

Absolutely brilliant. Me and my nearly 4 year old grandson stayed here as a pit stop for his little pre birthday adventure. Emma welcomed us and showed us to our room which was perfect for our needs. We were knackered after a day on a farm and ready for a freshen up and food. Although the Dante weren't doing food that evening we were welcomed to bring our chippy tea into the pub and happily given plates, cuttlery and sauces. More importantly to me, I was able to get a large wine to go with it. The peeps that came in for drinks that evening were also awesome and welcomed us with open arms. Made us feel part of the family. A beautful place with beautiful people. Way more than we expected and will certainly be back. Thank you all so much. We will be back xx

We stayed here for one night while walking the Yoredale Way. Whilst the hosts were very friendly and accommodating, the place definitely needs some attention. The room was very small, and the window blinds were far too thin to exclude the light. The room directly overlooked the beer garden, which was quite noisy. We could hear the people next door, too, and the fan in our shower room made a grinding noise when it was operating. The television was very small, and didn't work properly. We were told that it was due to the poor signal, but the television in the bar downstairs worked perfectly. On the positive side, however, there was fresh milk in a little fridge in the room, and the breakfast was lovely. The staff were very friendly too. I understand that the owners took over the Dante Arms just before Covid hit, so I appreciate that there have been difficulties there, and I wish them well in the future

We understand that this place was taken over at the start of Covid and this has made things difficult for the owners. They made us feel very welcome, however the rooms are small and in need of updating. There were nice little touches such as a mini fridge with fresh milk and bottled water and there were jars of coffee and hot chocolate, however everything just felt crammed, dark and well worn. The walls were paper thin and the room next door had a problem with their fan that we could hear in our room whenever they switched on their bathroom light. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful and that couldn’t be faulted. I’m sure that in time the owners will build up this business and we wish them the best of luck!

On a rather cold November evening, the large open fire in the Dante Arms was as welcoming as you can get. And the style of the pub follows suit, with old ceiling beams and lots of traditional, dark wood furnishings. And even though the pub was understandably quiet on a midweek evening, the landlady and the customers in the pub were instantly welcoming and chatty. The beer and service were spot on and this is a really nice pub.

Saturday 21 August 2021, after first of all walking round this quaint village and taking photographs of its old world charm. My husband and I went to ‘The Dante Arms Tavern’, which was a lovely coaching inn in the quaint old world village of Middleham. We entered within this oak beamed establishment and found ourselves a table in the window. We looked at small but interesting lunch menu and made our choices. My husband had a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich which came served with coleslaw and chips and a pint of ‘Busty Blonde’ ale. I had a toasted ham and cheese sandwich which also came with coleslaw and chips (too many for me, but my husband helped me out) and a latte coffee. We spent a pleasant hour here in this village tavern. If you want a nice friendly pub with good food then this is the place to visit if you are in the area.

Stayed here as we were going to a wedding up the road at the saddle room. We had a wonderful stay here. The welcome was wonderful and the hosts so friendly they allowed us to drop our bags early so we could go straight to the wedding, when we arrived our rooms were actually ready and were given the keys for our rooms there and then. The room was spotless with nice little touches such as leaving fresh milk at our door when we got back so we could make ourselves a cuppa when getting back from the wedding. The breakfast the following morning was delicious and fresh. Would definitely stay here again if we are in the area, we throughly enjoyed it. The only downside was that we only stayed for one night would like to stay much longer next time as Middleham was lovely and the stay at The Dante Arms was great.

I visited this pub in December just before Christmas with a group of friends and family as we were spending Christmas in the dales. I had asked the locals the best local pub and we were recommended the Dante. Unfortunately what we experienced that night was disgusting behaviour. The girl behind the bar was swearing and drinking with her friends on her shift. Health and safety reasons employees should not be consuming alcohol on the job. She looked more bothered about drinking shots with her friends rather than focusing on customer service. I then watched her poor a drink over some girls head and they both started fighting. It got brought to our attention this girl then was glassed and the owners didn’t seem to be bothered. It’s also been brought to my attention the girl behind the bar is still working here where in my eyes should have been sacked straight away. Her language, behaviour and mannerisms are very poor!!! Such a shameFor a pub In a beautiful area! We will not be returning to the Dante anytime soon. In my eyes it needs a change of staff as it could potentially be a nice pub! I hope the poor girl has reported them to the council!!!

We stayed here along with our family in which we occupied all the rooms - stayed the weekend for a wedding. The hotel was nice and clean, very comfortable beds, great location. However, do not take your dog here - I'm not sure whether it's the owners or a member of staff. But our dog is beyond placid minding his own business when their dog attacked ours, IT was completely hanging off his face whilst my boy sat there crying. He now has two scars on his nose. With the response of the dog owner being 'oh he just has a weird thing about big dogs' - NOT ACCEPTABLE. Do not have this dog within a dog friendly establishment, when its not a friendly dog. Even after this occurred, we were heading out from our room the following day and the people cleaning had this dog with them, fully aware we were staying there, in which it attempted to do the same again, why on earth would anyone think that's a good idea? Our dog is now terrified of small dogs - so thank you for that!! Its a shame, if this hadn't of happened, we'd have had a pleasant stay. So please do not take your dog unless you want it to be attacked.

We stayed overnight after visiting the races. We've previously stayed in Middleham so we were looking forward to visiting again. We booked a few months before knowing it would be a busy weekend for establishments.A couple of weeks before we visited, the owner informed us that the Dante was closed as new owners were expected to take over soon. This was fine as she arranged for us to check in and have breakfast at their other property. What we weren't told until arrival is that there had been severe flooding in the area and the Dante arms had been flooded although the bedrooms had not been affected. The entrance was down a ginnel, through an unsecured outside door and the building definately smelt damp. Whilst mainly clean, there were a few things such as broken glass on the floor from a picture, poor intermittent wifi and extremely thin walls(strange for a period property) through which we could hear EVERYTHING... and I mean everything, from snoring to more active activities!!! Breakfast was very average, and although the girls serving were very pleasant there was no communication between them. I would have happily discussed our issues , but we were not asked either if we had slept well or if we had enjoyed our stay. We were asked though if we had already paid!!!Hopefully the new owners will be able really bring the Dante back to life

We were looking for a pint after our castle visit. The Dante Arms did not disappoint. It is a traditional pub with some cozy areas, a small bar, and a selection of cask ales on tap. The mood is pretty mellow. They were playing Bon Jovi and the like when we were there, but not too loud, thankfully. There is also a beer garden, although it was empty on a Monday afternoon. The ale I ordered was a local brew (I think) called Black Sheep. Service was friendly and we enjoyed our visit.

A girl from the bar came up and agreed how noisy it was and said others had complained and that the room needed some insulation. We asked to move but there were no rooms available. The room overlooked the road and at 0715 hours daily there was a procession of 50 or so racehorses trotting passed the bedroom window en route to their early training session at the gallops, this added to the experience. The new name reflects a new commitment to a better pub. (It used to be the Black Swan). Dante was the Grand National winning horse from a Middleham Stables so is a good choice. The pub hosts a new pizza oven, and it is the pizzas etc that I would recommend. Pies are great too, with plenty of actual decent quality meat in! Steaks are actually cooked as the customer wants, not as the kitchen feels like. However, a solid team needs to be developed. Our last visit had a very inexperienced (but cheerful) person handling all food related front of house plus the bar. The kitchen was better served, but stability is needed in order to build on this pubs pluses. Good for a drink too, with a great fire in the main bar. There is a facility for this in the dining area but they avoid having two going, which results in people cramming down one end in winter.

We stayed for two nights and could not fault our stay. The staff (Brandon) made us feel very welcome from our checking in to leaving. The food was homemade and very reasonable. We would definitely return as Middleham had a lot to offer. Thank you

What a shame. Rarely have I witnessed such ignorance, lack of customer service or care from staff. The issue is very simple, placing juveniles behind a bar brings problem after problem if they are not trained.

We were staying in Middleham House a stones throw from the Dante Arms. Nice ambiance, excellent selection of Gins and various other alcoholic beverages. Well worth a little visit.

Stayed in Middleham for half term and decided to have a takeaway pizza from The Dante Arms. Excellent home cooked pizzas with plenty of toppings. Went down a treat with the whole family. Bit slow coming but didn’t bother my husband as he had a couple of pints of good beer whilst he waited so he was happy!

Stayed here on a weekend break. Right in the centre of Middleham. Good breakfast, rooms nicely decorated all named after horses as there are racing stables all around the village. Would recommend.

Very poor service. The meal for one of the five guests was served ten minutes before the others. After a first round of drinks we asked for a jug of water. When it did not arrive I had to go to bar to remind them, the waitress said she had been very busy yet when I arrived she was stood around talking. The pasta dish was tasteless and undercooked in lumps. We asked for parmasan cheese, we went to the bar to ask again, when it finally came the meal had gone cold. This is the first time ever that my wife has sent a meal back. Poor service, poor food, we will not be going back there again.

My husband & I stayed for one night for a wedding anniversary which should have been a lovely relaxing break albeit for hearing every sound from the room next door. Do not stay in the Frankel suite - not a suite, it's tiny! Heard every word of neighbour's conversation, throat clearing, light pull switching on! Complained and asked for a room change but man behind bar said would have to ask manager who was not around at the time. Never heard another word from anyone. Spoke to manager when checking out and she couldn't have cared less "I can't help thin walls". Shouldn't be letting rooms out with no noise insulation then. Would she have enjoyed staying in a room where she could hear the neighbour's every movement? Wrote an email to complain further and they haven't even bothered to reply - poor customer service!

I don't normally write reviews, but after our visit here yesterday I thought I must put pen to paper. We normally avoid tea rooms that are in pubs. It's not that we don't like pubs, but generally we prefer one or the other. This place definitely feels like a tea room with only a side door into the public bar. We went in thinking we would have tea and cake and the home made cakes did look amazing, but when we saw that there was fish finger sandwich on the menu, we had to have that instead. It consisted of several home made battered fish goujons in a large hot ciabatta bun with a nice salad and chips together with home made tartar sauce all freshly prepared. Was one of the best we have tasted! Despite being part of a pub, it had a proper tea room feel about it, our food was great and that on other tables looked good too. Definitely worth a visit.

Have visited The Dante Arms on a few occasions in the last few months and have always enjoyed the experience! It has real atmosphere and for those of the racing fraternity lots of memorabilia, pictures etc.. to add to the interest! The open fire is also a bonus but on a chilly day one needs to get there early to grab the best seats!!

Myself and my partner were looking for a nice quite place to have some food after a day at the Forbidden Corner and we were not let down. The food was absolutely incredible and made better by the fact it was only £12 for 2 pizzas due to the Sunday offer they have on.

Lovely homely pub. Beams, open fire, yes in August it was cold n wet. Welcoming and doggy friendly. seems to be the only place in Middleham. Super cake with our coffee. Generous portions. Only disappointment was the coffee was not actually hot.

I understand this pub had recently been taken over by the people who run the Richard III in the village. Whilst it's not quite there yet I'm sure it's going to be just as good. It's a cosy, old fashioned place. Looks to have a nice beer garden out the back. My partner enjoyed his pie but I didn't enjoy my pizza too much. Looking forward to returning and seeing how it improves.

Visited tonight with my girlfriend as we were passing through Middleham. Cosy little pub with a good traditional beer and food selection. We had a burger and pie(steak - definitely recommend), both really nice and good sized portions. It was quite busy but the service from staff was excellent all round.

We visited the Dante Arms this lunchtime with my two 9 and 7 year old grandchildren. It a very old and atmospheric pub, the type of pub you expect to see an old man sat on a stool smoking his pipe and drinking ale. Cleverly they have a room that is set out as a tea room, which is also welcoming and cosy.
