It's a good job we had directions on how to find the Bistro as its around the back of what looks like the modern village hall. This makes it an odd place for a Bistro, but that added to its quirkiness. It has a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. The Bistro was full but there was only one waitress which led to fairly slow service (she didn't get flustered though and was very friendly) we weren't in a hurry and were quite happy to relax. There's a limited menu but the meals offered are obviously cooked to order and are of a very high quality.

Middleham has pub food. But this is different. We were staying at Waterford House which is also different. We don't like noise, we do like good service. And we can be critical when it comes to food. Nothing to criticise here, only good feedback, especially for the way that the one member of our party who needs gluten free food was valued and really enjoyed her meal. Good choice of dishes, excellent presentation, lovely, lovely lovely. See you in October!

Visited with 5 friends on a saturday evening. (The restaurant has very limited opening times) warm welcome from both the front of house staff. Table nicely presented and the room whilst small is relaxing. No real views out - just the tarmac car park. The food menu is extremely limited but quite interesting; four starters, four mains. Items are somewhat unusual and have their own 'personality.". Yorkshire pudding with a real twist was on the menu when we visited. However I was disappointed by this when it arrived. Mother made them much better! My steak was well cooked (medium / rare as requested) and tasted very good. My fellow eaters all enjoyed their meals and commented on how tasty they were.We finished the evening with a coffee (unfortunately without a chocolate - a great pity!)We all had an enjoyable evening. Prices are on the high side.

Fairhursts is situated rather unusually in the rear of a rural conference centre (Middleham Key Centre). Do NOT let that put you off; just park in the car park at the rear and you will be facing the entrance to Fairhursts. Once inside, it is extremely cosy in a French bistro style.Food is tasty and well-presented. Guy can excel himself if he puts his mind to it. I would give it 5 stars if a) he was always there, and b) he concentrates. There is a monthly 'theme' night which is usually excellent value for money, and is certainly always great fun. However, several times we have had 'ordinary' but nice cooking from others when the chef should have been there himself to do it. The menu is interesting, quirky at times. Wine etc is very reasonably priced. Others have mentioned a 'wow' factor. This is often present, and Fairhursts is the only restaurant in the area capable of that.

Living and working in London has made me spoiled in terms of culinary choices with a vast number of restaurants on my doorstep, so visiting friends in the Dales recently I was delighted to find Fairhursts Bistro (and as others have said it does take a wee bit of finding if you are not local) - and what a find it is! This is imaginative and modern cuisine at its best, which is all the more unexpected because of the slightly "odd" location. The front of house staff are wonderfully Northern in warmth and hospitality coupled with efficient but not OTT service. The menu list isn't long but each course is well-thought through. As we were a party of 4 we each ate a different dish - I love fish so opted for the fish starter (without smoked salmon) and main. The "KFC" chicken was declared a triumph, I tried unsuccessfully to try a mouthful but was told in a very "lamb bhuna - Gavin and Stacey way" that if I had wanted to have the "KFC" chicken I should have ordered the "KFC" chicken. My other friends were more generous: both delicious. Yorkshire pudding in Yorkshire rightfully claims its roots. The camembert with grapes, tomatoes and olives works. With regard to main course I had the Black Cod. It was beautiful. A fresh, meaty cod (which comes from Whitby I believe) cooked perfectly and balanced with the sesame, garlic and green veg. I remember puddings in a post-black cod delight. We had ours with coffee at the same time. Stunning value for the level of service, portions and exquisite presentation. I only wish I could move Guy and his team down to SW London.

We were in a large group of about 20 and the kitchen coped really well getting all meals out nice and hot and fairly quickly the menu has some very unusual choices and I particularly enjoyed the eggs and soldiers desert. As we were a large group our bill was a hefty one but there is a 2/3 course set menu that was very reasonable and if I were local I would return to eat there again for sure. Hard to find so do not leave your navigation to the last minute!!

As a previous reviewer mentioned not easy to find but once in Middleham follow the signs to the Key Centre. I arrived on spec to find that it was a specific menu ' Game night ' with only two people booked. The following night was fully booked so unable to book my daughter and son-in-law in for a treat. The couple were chatty which together with lovely serving staff made for a very relaxed and enjoyable evening. The food was very tasty and a change from all the pub type food available near by.Thought the price at £25 was exceptionally good value and the Christmas menu looked very invitingI have booked again for later in the week. Highly recommend a visit.

Recommended this place by our host at Middleham House. Apparently this is a pop-up bistro open on Friday and Saturday at this time of year.Great find. This restaurant is really tucked away and instructions were needed to find it. Excellent food from a small but well executed menu. Food cooked and presented beautifully. Wine list good.Very good value for money.Visited out of season so a little quiet - only one other table booked (but it is a small bistro which I think could fit 5 covers at most. Apparently Saturday was fully booked. Very chatty team who recommended a very good bike ride for Saturday. We ate at The Saddle Room on Saturday and to be honest the food was equally good in both restaurants.

Stayed for a week in Middleham and ate at Fairhursts twice. The first meal was a Greek meze theme night which included a large variety of dishes all of which were of excellent quality. The restaurant was full yet the service was calm and efficient. The second meal was on a non-themed night with excellent service and quality food. Nice selection of wines accompanied the food. It is obvious the chef is really trying to introduce Middleham to some finer dining rather than pub-grub and deserves to succeed. Will definitely return when we visit Middleham again.

I wish that I had not chosen a theme night for my first visit. The general consensus among my friends at the Greek Tapas night was that a menu, explaining what was going to be served, would have greatly enhanced and improved our enjoyment of the evening. The food was generally good although not many of us liked the lamb casserole and the texture of the baklava was hard. That said there was plenty to eat and certainly no one left feeling hungry. The ambiance was good and the waitress delightful and very helpful. Good value for money.

I can't rate this highly enough, would give 10 stars if I could. The menu is set at 2 courses for £20, starter and main, choice of 4 lovely sounding dishes for each course. It is excellent value, the food is out of this world, better than I've had in restaurants at twice this price. Very friendly relaxed service which you don't always get with such high end food. The food was beautifully presented, I wish I'd taken a photo, and the taste combinations were spot on. The trio of salmon starter was delightful, as was the rack and black (lamb + black pudding) served with possibly the best red wine sauce I've ever tasted. The restaurant is hidden away in the local community center, but I'd urge you to seek it out, and book ahead (its only open thurs/fri/sat). Sides are extra (£3 each) and the wine selection is excellent. The chef had a chat with us after our meal and all the diners told him the same thing: this is some of the best food we've ever had!

Where do I start... plagued by weeks of emails and phone calls from the hen and the bridesmaids, I would have forgiven Guy for giving up on us. But instead he gave us the restaurant to ourselves (wise move) and not only prepared us a fantastic meal but his team ensured we had an absolutely brilliant night out too. There were loads of comments from the hens about how lovely the food was, taste and presentation. Eat here, you won't be disappointed.Top marks also to Francesca for just being a brilliant sport in the face of 18 loud and slightly tipsy (ok, hammered) women in fancy dress. Letting Quartermaine get behind the bar and pour herself gin wasn't the smartest move, but we got her out again upright! You did such a good job, we might be back! Shot yourselves in the foot there, didn't you?! You've been warned! :) Thank you so much for not just putting up with us but delivering a meal worthy of the "once in a lifetime" experience a hen party should be. Despite all the raucous shenanigans, it was a very special weekend.

I had planned to have Guy cater for a small birthday party while staying in Middleham recently. He had no difficulty with us changing the arrangement at short notice to dinner at the Bistro, which turned out to be a themed evening for the Richard III weekend. The food was fresh, delicious and perfectly cooked and came with a complimentary glass of mead (also delicious). The ladies who waited on us for the evening were also charming and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. In overall terms, I would rate it one of the best meals that I had during my visit to the UK - which included dinner at a michelin starred and celebrity chef restaurant. Arrived at 16.35 on Bank Holiday Monday. I asked if they were still serving as a large section was not in use, they had cleared and moved chairs away from and area and were in the process of cleaning the coffee machine. A young girl said we close at 5pm, no smile, no hello. She was not happy when we ordered 2 coffees and sat down. At 16.55 she appeared over my shoulder and said "we close in 5 minutes" I replied yes I am aware of that and had not forgotten that we have been a great inconvenience to you!!! She then went outside to collect the A frame in puffing if her vape. Wrong person to work in a coffee house in a customer service job. Obviously didn't want to he there. Very rude no manners.
