Excellent food cooked by a very nice & friendly chef/owner who really knows what he is doing. The wine list is very limited, though.

Wow, what can I say…. Just had the most amazing meal. The food is cooked to order by an amazing chef Jack. Service was excellent, thank you Christian. The ambiance of the restaurant is just so lovely, it felt like you were eating in your own private dining room with your own private chef. If you visit Richmond then seek out this restaurant, a real treasure of a find. Thank you, Jack and the team.

An amazing experience. The chef was nothing but kind, and accommodating beyond all expectations. Nothing threw them - fast service, menu amendments, the dog ….(even the ketchup addict got a small pot of homemade arrabbiata). Thank you for making a family lunch so special in a simple way.

Fantastic food, with great service and perfect Sunday afternoon atmosphere. We all thought the roast was one of the best we had all had, and the deserts weren’t far off either. Would highly recommend if you are visiting Richmond!

Everything about this place is top notch. Jack cooked us up a storm. The food was awesome. As was the service and the wine. This was our favourite place in Richmond to dine.

Really well cooked food. We were told menu changes regularly to suit available ingredients. Had excellent value sliced steak and sort of Dauphinoise potatoes with a gorgeous Arrabiata sauce. Couldn't fault it

We’ve been in the UK for almost a full month and without a doubt Wilfred has been the best dining experience of our trip by a good length. From food to service to atmosphere, this gem ticks all the boxes. So grateful to have spent time with friends enjoying incredible cuisine cooked by Head Chef Jack.

Special. A beautiful setting with some of the best food you will find on the entire island. Prepared with soul and served with a smile. If you’re in Richmond for any reason, you have to drop in on Wilfred’s Canteen.

This little gem is just perfect! I had breakfast here at the weekend (pancakes, bacon and a beautiful honey & maple syrup). I now have a new breakfast addiction thanks to Jack, but it’s one I’m very much okay with. As always with Wilfred’s (including their deli location), the service, atmosphere, warm and welcoming environment plus their tasty food is just superb. Thank you again Chris & Team!

This is the best sunday dinner I've ever had the meat was cooked to perfection what a delightful place.

We've been meaning to try the Canteen for a while but haven't until today. The poached eggs with chorizo and avocado was delicious as was the French toast and accompanied by a very fine coffee. Regretting not visiting before but we will be back!

A lovely casual dining experience hidden away in Richmond town centre. A good range of dishes on offer for a small place and a more limited but decent wine offer too. A musical trio provided background music which was unobtrusive and added to the atmosphere. A spin off from Wildred Deli and obviously well supported by local people with some table sharing . Very friendly and welcoming staff.

What a fabulous find! The best meal I’ve had in The Dales by far. We were there for Sunday lunch as a group of eight. Beautiful food, attentive service and a wonderful atmosphere. The roast pots were a particular highlight. We left completely stuffed and very happy.

Perhaps we picked a bad day. The service was extremely slow. Which you could expect when the food is cooked from scratch. The staff very friendly and welcoming. The waitress got our order wrong and only ordered one meal when we ordered two. They were very apologetic. We didnt get any napkins and I noticed other customers didnt get one.

Went for Sunday lunch. It's an amazing place. The food was delicious with a choice of great wines . Staff are brilliant and helpful. Couldn't ask for more.

Jack the host was absolutely excellent from start to finish. The restaurant is in a lovely building where the kitchen can be seen so you can see what is being cooked fresh for you. The food was also excellent. The shin of beef ragu absolutely gorgeous

Best meal of our trip so far. We had the salmon and Ragu with freshly made pappardelle. Both meals were amazingly prepared. Jack was welcoming and attentive, all while preparing a phenomenal locally sourced meal. The atmosphere was inviting and in a beautifully restored portion of a centuries old church. We would highly recommend this restaurant. It was a highlight of our trip.

What a hidden gem! We have been walking the Coast to Coast and stumbled upon this beautiful location with a fantastic seasonal menu. The delicious ragu with perfectly braised beef is second to none. Jack is a gifted young chef- stop in and you will not be disappointed.

Wilfred's Canteen is such a wonderful addition to Richmond. We went there for lunch and had a fantastic meal. The menu was small, but had plenty of choice. Fresh, seasonal ingredients and everything was skilfully cooked and beautifully presented. The service was excellent and there was a very good wine list too. It's on Newbiggin which is a bit off the main square, but well worth the 5-minute walk.

Absolutely perfect. Delicious food in a beautiful, simple and peaceful setting. I'll definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Richmond.

Just been to pie and crumble night at Wilfred Canteen. Wow wow! The food was amazing, the hand made pastry on the pie was divine. The Canteen was beautifully decorated and the atmosphere relaxed but very special. The attentive staff were amazing, there when you needed them but not hovering over you. I highly recommend this venue.

Wilfred Canteen is a gem and our favourite place to eat in Richmond. We had a fantastic Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. Fabulous food, wonderful wine, delightful decor and superlative service. We will definitely be going back!
