Great choice for a family meal as part of a Dales mini-break. Superb welcome from Paul, fabulous food prepared by pam - all in a wonderfully designed restaurant. If you are staying in or near Hawes, this is a definitely a restaurant to experience...

Every so often you stumble upon a place so special that you wonder why you've never visited it before. The Old Dairy Farm is such a place, tucked back from the main road down a short drive, you think it is a farmer's cottage when it is momentarily glimpsed from a passing vehicle. Upon entering this hidden gem you are amazed by the decor, coziness and warm welcome from Paul. The menu is small but perfectly formed, offering a selection to suit all tastes with a wine list of similar quality and a well stocked bar for after dinner drinks. What about the service and food ? Drinks are offered whilst a selection from the menu is made and after an appropriate length of time you are shown to your table. The cauliflower and spicy lentil soup my wife and I had was superb and a foretaste of what was to come. This is not a fast food restaurant and Paul informed us that his wife cooked everything herself and the wait was well worth it. It was understandable that Paul would be gushing about his wife's prowess in the kitchen but this was well deserved and possibly even understated. Amazing main courses and a small selection of fresh vegetables. The desserts were equally impressive and the whole evening; it was Valentines Day, exceeded all my expectations. The presentation and the quality of the food was amazing. I just cannot believe, after visiting the Dales annually for about 25 years, that I've never eaten there before. It certainly will not be the last time and I cannot praise Paul, and his wife, Pam, enough. You should be very proud of what you have achieved and I will not hesitate to recommend your establishment at every opportunity. Thank you for making the evening extra special.

Enjoyed a 2 night break at this beautifully converted farm building, with a most friendly host Paul. Only 3 bedrooms but everything has been developed to a high standard and the restaurant offers an excellent choice of food, very well cooked and presented, together with a good choice of drinks. Breakfast offers guests a very wide choice and sets you up for a good start for your exploration of Wensleydale. An excellent place to stay with plenty to see in this beautiful part of Yorkshire.

While scanning listings for Hawes during a recent stay, we came across one that we had not noticed previously. Most commentary on The Old Dairy Farm relates to its status as a high-end B&B. That's a shame, because it also serves dinner to non-residents, and the meals served to my wife and I and a visiting friend last week were fantastic. The setting is charming and intimate, the host gregarious and attentive, and the food even better than the presentation. The broccoli cheddar soup, prawn cocktail, lamb shank, sea bass, profiteroles and posset were uniformly excellent. When we return, it will be a difficult decision whether to order the same again, or something else from the varied menu.

Just a 5 minute drive out of Hawes on the Ingleton Rd Paul and Pam have made this little gem a sanctuary of 5 star quality cuisine in a warm luxurious environment coupled with fantastic service. Paul was attentive and had superb knowledge of the area and it's history. The food was simply amazing. A compact menu but with plenty of variation at a surprisingly good price. 5 star food but not 5 star prices. Starters, main course and for those of our party of 5 who could handle dessert were all cooked and presented with style and dedication. The steaks were cooked to perfection. As was the duck, chicken and sea bass we all selected. 5 star place and 6 stars to Pam who we never got to see as she was busy in the galley but we will most definitely be back again.

We arrived an hour early that was no problem, Paul was doing his paperwork but dropped that to offer us tea or coffee and home made cake, brilliant start and it got better. Paul stayed in the lounge with us and we had a really good conversation, it was like being in a friends house that you were visiting. We were then showed to our room which was a very good size with a huge spa bath, we paid extra for this room but that was made clear when we booked. The rooms are well decorated and spotless, the communal rooms are inviting the furniture is lovely, you can see Paul and Pam take a great deal of pride in the property. We decided to eat at about 7 and Paul took our orders from the menu, we were on a break for 2 nights which included dinner on the first night. The food was superb, I had stroganoff and my wife asked for really well done pork belly, that is exactly what she got, she said it’s the best she had tasted. We decided to eat in again on the second night and the food was even better. Breakfast on both days was very good all cooked to order, with a choice of several cereals, fresh fruit salad yogurt and toast. Paul and Pam were perfect hosts, very friendly without being over the top but very knowledgeable about the local area. This is without doubt one of the best stays we have ever had and will without doubt be going back. Thank you Paul and Pam.

For mains hub had the trio of pork and I the lamb shank, superbly cooked and served with fresh vegetables, perfectly presented. Both to full to have pudWe had a lovely bottle of red, not over priced, or rather I had most, hub had a glass as driving.Overall everything we like in a restaurant, our bill was around £90 but we did take a 2nd bottle of wine home with us. We tried to go back again in June for my birthday but was closed as Paul and Pam were on holiday.Definitely worth a visit and we will definitely go back.

I attended a private birthday party held at the Old Dairy Farm. Paul & Pam turned on the most magnificant evening which started with lots of bubbles and canapes to die for. This was followed by the tastiest beef dish, scrummy puddings & a cheese board. The drinks and food flowed seamlessly all evening and the service spot on - didn't have to ask for thing, and most times didn't even notice when new bottles of wine appeared. The fire and setting gave an easy cosy intimate ambience - was just perfect.Highly recommend for any party or function. Although that said I'm going back to try the restaurant.

We stayed here for one night on our cycling holiday. The Old Dairy Farm menu tempted us to cycle an additional 4-miles off our route between Hawes and Swaledale: our cycling routes are always dictated by food. On arrival, we received a warm welcome and excellent cup of tea. However, we were then informed that the restaurant would not be open that evening. Very disappointing. Instead, Paul drove us to (and from) the nearby Simonstone Hall Country House Hotel (on our cycling route!). We had a very nice meal there, but it did rather defeat the object of this leg of our trip.A final note: we understand some businesses make additional charges for credit and debit cards. This one did, but this detail was not mentioned on the Old Dairy Farm web site or at the time of booking.

The most brilliant venue for a private party. I arranged a surprise birthday party for approx 30 people at the Old Dairy Farm. Paul & Pam were Wonderful to work with arranging the menu, suppliers for balloons, cake, etc, all delivered to the venue in readiness as well as helping with the taxi's & accommodation. They are also linked in to help provide singers or a magician if wanted, but I elected to use their cleverly non obvious Big Screen TV to display a digital photo board & play messages from friends & family who could not make it on the day. Nothing was any trouble during the organising nor on the actual day. Paul & Pam's careful attentiveness to the evening's proceedings meant they had things ready exactly when we needed them, such as the bubbly for the toasts, the cheese board & coffees after the speeches (which were quite ongoing!), which in turn ensured everyone had a wonderful time and myself a stressfree evening. The food was excellent - all freshly prepared by Pam - the canapes were just amazing, and the choices of menu selections great. A good variety of wines & spirits to suit all tastes & budgets rounded it all off perfectly.I totally 100% Recommend the Old Dairy Farm for a private function or party. The restuarant has loads of character, atmosphere, ambience, Paul & Pam are warm, friendly, completely helpful with ideas, suppliers, working to your budget and the food is wonderful. Everyone one of my party guests (without exception) commented positively about the Old Dairy Farm and used words to the effect " a brilliant, super evening that will always remember". Could not want for more.

We booked in here for dinner over May Spring Bank weekend as we'd seen a good review and the website looked lovely. The place itself is a bit in the middle of nowhere and you would have to drive or get a taxi if you wanted to drink. Pam was very welcoming, though the service was a little slow and disjointed. They weren't very busy for a Saturday night and my assumption was that most of the diners were staying there. When the food arrived it was amazing, I cannot fault the food at all. All home cooked, fresh food and a lot of care had gone into making it.Although it was quiet and lacking atmosphere we had a lovely relaxed evening and it was very resaonably priced.Would definitely go back there.

We happened on the Old Dairy Farm on thew way home from the Lake District in 2009 and returned in 2010 because it was so nice despite i9t being 50 miles out of our way. The owners are really nice people - "Geordies" with another restaurant in Washington (Tyne & Wear). Nothing is too much trouble. The food and drink are excellent and great value. This year we stopped for a cup of coffee (refills offered until you van drink no more) and stayed for soup and a roll. Last year we had a full meal. Both times we have visited we regretted that we live 100 miles away. Well worth going out of your way, but check opening times as they can be a bit sporadic. And the scenery is great too, with the Ribblehead Viaduct about 5 miles south and the Three Peaks on the doorstep. Highly recommended. Check out their website

I had a wonderful spa experience at Forest Spa and a decent stay at the lodge yesterday. I really wish I could give the estate a 5 star rating, but there were a handful of things that just didn’t quite meet the mark. For starters, it was very confusing how to get to the spa - signage definitely needs to be increased. Once in the spa, the lockers are located in the waiting/dining room which was odd in my opinion (I’ve been to a ton of spas and never seen this before). The staff were extremely friendly and my massage/scrub/facial session was amazing, which is why I wish I could give them 5 stars. For those that come for a spa day, you preselect your lunch choices at check in. It was clear the snacks were a separate charge, but the form made it appear as though the dessert was part of the package. At checkout, I was surprised that I was being charged 9 quid for a small scoop (seemed like half a scoop honestly) of sorbet with a little bit of granola. Pretty absurd. As for the lodge itself, check in was extremely confusing as it was hard to find the reception desk in the dark (since it gets dark around 4pm now) and then once checked in, they give you a map and leave you to find your room on the massive property (not just one central building). After lugging my bags to the reception desk (most of the way was gravel so had to carry my suitcase), I had to lug my bags back to where I started and ended up going in circles trying to find my room in the dark since there was little signage or help available. I ended up having to go back to reception and confirm where I needed to go and eventually found my way. This definitely put a damper on my spa day and completely reversed the relaxation I experienced earlier. Once in my room, the shower looked like an accessible room type shower (even though it was definitely not an accessible room since on the second floor with no elevator) with no door or barrier dividing the shower floor from the rest of the floor and I knew that was going to be interesting - I was in fact right once taking a shower. The bathroom floor was soaking wet after my shower, but thankfully it was only me staying in the room so I was able to use the extra towels provided for a second guest to mop up the water. The room was spacious and cute and the bed comfy, however, the pillows had a weird smell to them that almost made me think they weren’t clean. Dinner at the Coach House was nice, however, I paid 50 quid for a drink, water (that I didn’t ask for) and a main dish - seemed excessive, but I guess that’s what you get when staying at a place like this. Overall, the staff and service I received at the spa, lodge and restaurant were all fantastic. Just really wish the estate was able to meet the mark on all other areas.
