Amazing experience. It's clear Jake and his team are well drilled and very talented. I am by no means a food critic but I thought it was flawless. I ate food I would never normally choose on a menu and it was so good. The venue is beautifully presented with such a calm atmosphere. The front of house staff are very attentive, polite and professional. Your not just paying for food your paying for the experience, atmosphere and service. A true food pampering. Well done to you all.

This place absolutely blew me away, it definitely comes into my top 3 spa’s in the UK. The facilities are gorgeous, the layout central around the pool just feels right? The staff were super friendly & it’s set in such a serene location. Treatments were brilliant & it was gorgeous to have your own little hut. A little on the pricey side but if you go you’ll see exactly why that is. I’ll be back for sure.

I received a complimentary Xmas lunch on Christmas day. It was delivered to my home by smiling staff in sealed keep-hot containers. This was the best Xmas lunch I have ever had (barring my own mother`s cooking of course!). The presentation was very good and the portions were just right. Not too much and not too little. Focusing on quality not quantity. It was an excellent meal. All cooked to perfection. The separate generous container of flavoursome gravy was very welcome. The individual pudding and custard were extremely delicious! A big "thank you" to the chef and everyone concerned. Merry Christmas!

We visited for my husband’s birthday. He was greeted with a birthday card hand written by Jake Jones - such a lovely touch. We had the 6 course taster plus the phenomenal cheese course and my husband also received an additional chocolate cake with the petite fours. The presentation was excellent throughout, the flavours and combinations sublime! My husband had the wine pairing and the Sommelier explained every one so well. We couldn’t fault our evening! We will definitely return and highly recommend it.

I had a wonderful spa experience at Forest Spa and a decent stay at the lodge yesterday. I really wish I could give the estate a 5 star rating, but there were a handful of things that just didn’t quite meet the mark. For starters, it was very confusing how to get to the spa - signage definitely needs to be increased. Once in the spa, the lockers are located in the waiting/dining room which was odd in my opinion (I’ve been to a ton of spas and never seen this before). The staff were extremely friendly and my massage/scrub/facial session was amazing, which is why I wish I could give them 5 stars. For those that come for a spa day, you preselect your lunch choices at check in. It was clear the snacks were a separate charge, but the form made it appear as though the dessert was part of the package. At checkout, I was surprised that I was being charged 9 quid for a small scoop (seemed like half a scoop honestly) of sorbet with a little bit of granola. Pretty absurd. As for the lodge itself, check in was extremely confusing as it was hard to find the reception desk in the dark (since it gets dark around 4pm now) and then once checked in, they give you a map and leave you to find your room on the massive property (not just one central building). After lugging my bags to the reception desk (most of the way was gravel so had to carry my suitcase), I had to lug my bags back to where I started and ended up going in circles trying to find my room in the dark since there was little signage or help available. I ended up having to go back to reception and confirm where I needed to go and eventually found my way. This definitely put a damper on my spa day and completely reversed the relaxation I experienced earlier. Once in my room, the shower looked like an accessible room type shower (even though it was definitely not an accessible room since on the second floor with no elevator) with no door or barrier dividing the shower floor from the rest of the floor and I knew that was going to be interesting - I was in fact right once taking a shower. The bathroom floor was soaking wet after my shower, but thankfully it was only me staying in the room so I was able to use the extra towels provided for a second guest to mop up the water. The room was spacious and cute and the bed comfy, however, the pillows had a weird smell to them that almost made me think they weren’t clean. Dinner at the Coach House was nice, however, I paid 50 quid for a drink, water (that I didn’t ask for) and a main dish - seemed excessive, but I guess that’s what you get when staying at a place like this. Overall, the staff and service I received at the spa, lodge and restaurant were all fantastic. Just really wish the estate was able to meet the mark on all other areas.

We have visit Middleton lodge twice now and upon a few very small hiccups during our first stay the managers did everything they could to put things right on our second which was absolutely seamless. Staff were attentive and went above and beyond for my daughter who is a fussy eater. Our room was absolutely immaculate and the hot tub was a real treat. We was lucky enough to have mild weather during the stay so we took advantage of this in the evening. In the morning all you'll hear are birds singing. We even had a little visit from a Robin. Dairy room 1 offers a large bed, dressing table, wet room shower and a roll top bath and is situated right beside the spa and the forge restaurant. A short gravel walk lit by warm evening lights will take you to the coach house where you'll be met by friendly staff who will take you're coat before being seated. The food here is exceptional. There's a large selection of drink available, served in the correct glasses, cold and refreshing. Everywhere you look at Middleton Lodge there are beautiful touches, from decor, right down to the decorative flower toilet roll. The spa is fantastic. I highly recommend the Indian head massage. The pool area is beautiful at night. The tea and frozen grapes are a nice little touch and much needed afterwards. If you're in great need of some me time and relaxation then this place is for you. There's a reason they have won the best spa in the north. To Claire and Glenn Thank you :))

Our experience at Middleton Lodge was absolutely amazing. We rented the Main House for a farewell party, and everything was wonderful from start to finish. We’d absolutely work with her again. The event itself was managed by Antony (apologies for not knowing his last name), who was also excellent. He ensured everything ran smoothly and made us feel welcome throughout the evening. Special thanks as well to Caz behind the bar—she was outstanding! After getting engaged over two years ago, we began searching for our dream wedding venue. Living abroad meant we had a limited amount of time to find a venue during our visit to the UK. We discovered Middleton Lodge through Google searches, and our first visit to the estate was very welcoming. The team showed us the grounds, and communication with Kate was excellent. However, as our wedding day approached, we became increasingly disheartened with the service we received from the MLE team. While the venue and hotel are beautiful, and our guests had high praise for their rooms, the service left much to be desired. From our experience on the day of our wedding tasting to the communication regarding payments and the rudeness of the staff towards us and our guests, we encountered several issues. We were highly apprehensive as our wedding day approached and had to seek the support of our wedding planner to ensure a smooth experience for us and our guests—something that should not have been necessary. Although we had a memorable day, the level of service we received for the price we paid was disappointing.

Got married here in June. Such an incredible venue with incredible food! Couldn’t recommend this venue enough. Rhiannon who was our coordinator went above and beyond to make sure our day went as well as it could. We stayed in one of the dairy rooms the night after with the copper hot tub outside and it was incredible. The restaurant manager in the coach house can be a bit snobby though. My family who stayed here on the wedding night were asked to vacate their table at breakfast because they needed it for another table. Bearing in mind the money spent we didn’t particular appreciate this but nonetheless, we visit every couple of months to reminisce on what was an incredible day. 5/5!

We went to Middleton Lodge for a coffee and scone.(Both were delightful) What a lovely place, very well presented, clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a walk around the grounds which are so well kept, the only drawback is all paths are gravelled which made it quite difficult to be pushing a wheelchair and I'm sure pram/buggies would be the same. We will definitely be returning to access the spa and to sample from the menu as the food looked incredible

What a night! We've been to the Coach House on several occasions and Forge has been on our agenda for sometime. So when an opportunity came up to go we couldn't wait. We LOVE taster menus and from the moment we stepped out of the car, we had a feeling this was going to be a good night. The building has been tastefully renovated and is a credit to whoever created such a unique space. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. And the food!! Oh the food! It was simply delectable! We pretty much ate out of the walled garden - who knew what you can actually eat! So many elements to a dish to bring it together to taste well amazing!! Most taster menus have a stand out dish, we struggled to find just one because they were all incredible. The beer bread & Winchester custard was just out of this world but I'm looking at the menu now, some 8 hours after eating it and thinking 'well that was delicious'. .....in short they were all stand out dishes. A great touch that a chef comes out to deliver most courses. Their knowledge and complete unpretentiousness was lovely. My biggest regret - we live too close to stay in one of the cottages for a weekend. The big bonus - we live close enough that we would happily make this one of those places we can nip to and enjoy on a more regular basis than some of the other taster menus we've done. Until of course it gets its Michelin star and then we won't be able to get in 😉. In fact I don't know why I'm telling you how good it is!! Jake Jones (Head chef) You are amazing 💙

The Estate itself is awesome and is probably 10 / 10 due to its location and beautiful well manicured gardens. All staff we came into contact were fabulous, friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the "Dairy" (Hot tub) and this was awesome. The accommodation can not be faulted. The gardens are beatifically maintained but "Blue Badge" holders might find that accessibility is "wanting". There are "Blue Badge" spaces in the main car park but these are a long way from "reception". If you are staying in the "Dairy" (Hot Tub), parking is a few minutes hobble, if you have walking difficulties. Update June 24. We visited a few days ago and included use of the Spa. The heated outdoor pool was lovely but having no handrail to hold on entering was challenging. The hot tub was nice and warm but it could be deeper. The thermal suite was quite nice, didn’t try sauna but the steam room was hot although the lack steam was disappointing. Overall a lovely place to rest n unwind, if you’re young and fit. If you have walking difficulties, the gravel paths won’t help. If you are a wheelchair user, you should probably avoid this lovely place. Our offspring thought this would be a good treat for our 50th anniversary, they meant well

I really wanted to love this place but I came away with mixed feelings after our stay. We stayed in the Dairy Cottage which was absolutely stunning. I loved the room and the beautiful estate and couldn't wait for breakfast the following morning. What a disappointment. I really think Middleton Lodge Estate need to rethink their approach to breakfast and if not, make it clear what is on offer beforehand. One thing I look forward to is a hearty English breakfast. Whilst I could have had that, I was going to be charged £15 on top of the already significant room rate which was meant to include breakfast. Oh and if you don't want standard tea or coffee there is an extra charge. Breakfast items included in the room rate are a continental breakfast plus a couple of small warm options. However, the continental offering is far from a continental breakfast. No cheese or meats; just the cheaper elements on offer. We opted for one bacon and one sausage sandwich (strictly limited to one each) which were cold and very small. One sausage cut in half and cold streaky bacon. I left disappointed and hungry. It's such a shame that they feel the need to be so greedy not to offer a decent breakfast as part of a B&B room rate. I've never experienced anything like this before. Middleton Lodge, you really MUST change this. Couple of other observations: signage needs improving. We spent a while looking for reception even in the daylight. There was also a very strong smell of sewage walking around the site which was rather off-putting.

I was fortunate enough to eat here not long after Michelin awarded the Head Chef Jake Jones with Young Chef of the Year, and the establishment the Green Star for sustainability. Having chosen the 10 course tasting menu (which can also come with a wine pairing) things started off with Potato, Ewes Curd, Guanciale and Barbequed Kale. Crispy going into fluffy potato square with the fresh tang of the ewes curd and topped with the fabulous guanciale (Tuscan dry cured pork cheek). Served at room temperature, this opener had a great mouthfeel. Next came Smoked Cod’s Roe. Light and airy sourdough crisp with intensely smoky cod’s roe, tempered by the acidity of pineapple weed vinegar and dill. Inspired dish. English Mushroom Biscuit with Barncliffe Mascarpone and Black Winter Truffle was followed up by Raw Chalk Stream Trout, Noriko Kohlrabi, Cultured Buttermilk and Douglas Fir Dressing. I’m aware I can’t really describe every dish I had, as this is supposed to be a review and not chapter and verse….but these two courses were both absolutely exceptional, amazing flavour profiles, beautiful to eat. Up next, the star of the menu (in my opinion). Salt Brewery IPA Bread, Old Winchester Custard, Beer Vinegar and Shiitake. The bread was superb. Bubbly, chewy, super moreish. It came with a chicken butter and a fennel one. The Old Winchester custard….good grief. It’s like the best cheese spread in the world. If Carlsberg made cheese spreads, this would be it. This dish is enough to make a grown adult sink to their knees. Stunning. Once I’d recovered from the bread course, I moved on to Cornish Cod, XO, English Sparkling wine, Musselburgh Leeks in Bone Marrow, Mussel. Perhaps the simplest in presentation of all the dishes, but this just belied the flavour profile of this dish. Perfectly cooked cod, umami from the XO, creamy, light, beautiful. Next up, Hogget; Dry Aged Hogget, Celeriac and Toasted Yeast Cream, Last Years Ramson, Kombu. Hogget is a personal favourite and way underused. This did not disappoint. Crispy outer and super tender middle, the lamb belly was a delight. Smooth celeriac cream had a luxurious mouthfeel and the kombu ketchup was nothing short of a genius touch. Onward to a savoury course of Baron Bigod, Pickled Walnut, Medlar, Toasted Barley and Birch Syrup, tapped from the estates own Birch trees last year. Goats Yogurt, Preserved Blackcurrant, Sorrel and the Estates own Honey cleansed the palate ready for Tomlinsons Rhubarb, Custard and Cinnamon. Not the prettiest looking dish if I’m being completely honest but my word, the flavour. The perfect pinkness of the rhubarb had been maintained and not overly sweetened. Finally, three different petit fours accompanied my coffee to a tea (so to speak!). To sum up, this was spectacular. Very much looking forward to visiting again soon. I cannot recommend Forge highly enough. Lastly, keep an eye on Jake Jones. He’s only going to get better and better. Michelin stars on the horizon for sure.

We have been coming to middleton lodge for approximately 2 years and have always eaten in the coach house which is lovely. We decided to try the Forge for my sons birtday and we booked the spa and 6 course tasting menu. It is a lovely restaurant and the service was really good. Our first course was tasty although very small, just a mouthful. The second course was also tiny, just a mouthful and also the third. The next course was a bread course with a small amount of winchester custard. The waitress then gave us a knife and fork each, so we were really hoping we would get something a little more substantial for this course but dissappointingly the deer was a tiny piece of meat with a tiny leaf of salad and 2 dots of cream, we were absolutely starving by this time and we realised that we were not going to get any decent portions of food. The next course was a parsnip dessert which was lovely but we weren't ready for dessert as were really hungry. This restaurant is lovely and staff are great and if we had not left hungry we would have given it 5 stars but unfortunately we were absolutely starving when we left and this is not really good enough considering we paid approximately £200 for this meal which incuded only 2 glasses of red wine and a coke. We did not complain at the time as it was a birthday celebration and it would have embarrassed my son, we even gave a tip as it is not the fault of the waitress. One other tiny comment is that I asked if we could organise something for the birthday and would be happy to pay extra but was told not to worry as something would be sorted, I phoned a few days prior to our arrival to confirm our booking and mentioned it again but absolutely nothing was done.

Despite being local to the area, we weren’t aware of Forge but had been gifted a tasting meal by family. We went last night with absolutely no expectations and had not read any reviews. We were absolutely blown away by the menu and quality of food produced. As others have said, the food is worthy of any of the Michelin restaurants that we have visited and we have been to many. Highlights for us were the Cornish cod and the Old Winchester custard (which I could happily eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner!) with fresh bread and the apple tart. My old list was included Ransey at Claridges, Rick Stein and Social by Heinz Beck. The Forge surpassed them all and right on our doorstep. One after another visually stunning dishes with that magical blend of flavour fusing into each other seamlessly served by realxed professional staff. Not sure if the Forge will make a full come back (we attended a one of "Wine Dinner" but we certainly hope so.

My Wife & I are proud to say we got Married here. It was the best day of our lives so far. Special Thanks to Emma and the rest of the wedding and events team who were there for us every step of the way and completely took the stress out of the planning and the execution of the day.

The Room Dairy 9 was lovely really tasteful and spacious, given prosecco on arrival and a bottle for my wifes birthday. The pantry in the room didn't have everything , kind of thought this would have been done prior to arrival ,also the pillows were a little too soft and the sky movies pin didn't work. But that didn't spoil the stay. No fault in the rooms and the grounds. The woodland walk was nicely set out. The coach House restaurant wasn't the best for dinner, steak was a little rubbery ang boring. The chocolate brownie dessert stated pistachio ice cream we got dull vanilla. Breakfast the next day made up for the dinner and was really nice.

Great place, lovely setting. My only criticism is that the pathways are gravel. Not an issue for walkers but I saw so many wedding guests looking at their ruined heels. Ladies, take a pair of pumps or risk shredded heels. Beautiful place though.

Absolutely amazing location and what a fantastic estate. The owners have done an wonderful job in renovating the entire place, and it feels like you're staying in a very exclusive country manor, but that is also someone's home, so it doesn't feel old and stuffy. Would heartily recommend making a visit, just top drawer. 🥂

Great place for Sunday lunch, the best roast beef I've ever tasted, and nothing else disappointed either. It was reading so the outside terrace was closed, but when the weather is fine, outside is great, and dog friendly too!

I had my wedding here in October and it was absolutely perfect. The staff were smart, proactive, attentive and so kind. The venue was so stunning - the walled garden looked spectacular in the autumn and was completely immaculate, the bedrooms were generously sized and tastefully decorated and the products supplied were high quality and luxurious! Middleton lodge catered the wedding and provided a delicious breakfast for us and our guests the next day which was so yummy. I’d happily eat at the coach house restaurant daily! For the record, my family and I have very high standards and are very critical guests so it’s almost inconceivable that a venue could come away with such a glowing review and exceptionally high praise from every member of my family but Middleton lodge delivered in absolutely every way. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so heavenly and in particular Ashleigh who was attentive and communicative throughout.

This hotel has great potential. A beautiful building in beautiful grounds. But, it all felt a little bit lazy and tired to me. Every bedroom has scores of dead flies around the windows and while I appreciate that flies are a natural hazard, we felt someone should have swept them up on the day of arrival. There were quite a few maintenance issues and poorly thought out things like the room kettle having such a short cable it could only be on the floor to boil as it couldn't reach any tables. We were at a wedding and the main meal was OK although I don't think everyone got what they ordered and I expected better for the price. Breakfast was nice but communication about where and when it was was garbled with different information being given by different staff and varius bits of paper we were given. Check out was early (10:30)so we didn't really get a chance to explore. Overall, this was expensive for what we got, the staff varied in politeness and communication was poor.

More a wedding venue with rooms than a hotel. Food is really good and really well presented. Stayed for 3 nights and every night the place was full of wedding guests or people staying for a wedding the next day. The grounds as are ok but a bit tired, the woodland walk is around a sizeable working quarry.

What a beautiful little tea room! On a wet and cold day visiting the Falls, we were made to feel at home from the moment we walked in, muddy walking boots and all. Wonderful service, delicious soup and scone option and we took two of the must try tray bakes home with us as they were too good to miss. Staff very attentive and cafe very clean and well stocked. Would highly recommend.
