The market cafe in Richmondshire

Unbelievably rude and unwelcoming. I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled after such a disappointing and frankly upsetting visit to this cafe. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like an inconvenience rather than customers. The worst part? One of the staff members was openly rude to my child — simply for needing the toilet. Instead of offering help or basic courtesy, they responded with attitude and made us feel like a burden. It was humiliating and completely uncalled for. To top it all off, they dragged my pram across the floor without even asking — like it was in their way. No excuse me, no communication — just grabbed it and moved it like we didn’t matter. There was zero warmth, zero professionalism, and certainly no sense of hospitality. I left feeling angry and upset. If you have children or just expect to be treated with a bit of respect, I suggest avoiding this place entirely. Liz the lady who works behind the counter, you need a new job love because clearly you dont like it.

Now called The Bread Bowl, this cafe in Richmond Market Hall is a nice example of the genre. It is clean and tidy and has a decent menu of hot and cold meals and snacks as well as hot drinks. Interestingly, it also serves a range of German food, such as Bratwurst. Service is very good and prices most reasonable.

The worst Full English I've ever had. The bacon was like cardboard, the sausages, although just about cooked, looked raw, the mushrooms tasted as though they'd been soaking in bleach, the tomatoes were tinned pulp which seemed to have had tomato pureee mixed in, and even the toast was disgusting - soggy and smeared with some sort of rancid spread. The egg was the only decent thing on the plate. The service was appalling. Not particularly cheap. You live and learn.

Two of us called in here today for lunch. We often visit this market hall and think the food looks nice so were happy when there were a few tables empty. However we didnt get the chance to stay because I was horrified at the hygiene of one of the staff! She blew her nose in full view of us then went on to have a look at what had come out of her nose, she then disposed of the tissue and went on to wipe the residue of snot off her nose with her hand then turned and asked if she could help us. She didn't even try to be discreet which left us both disgusted with her. A younger member of staff was watching her and said nothing! Its no wonder we end up with stomach problems with this sort of disgusting behavior from staff who should no better. I hope the owner sees this and gets to the bottom of it. The one star is for this member of staff and not the food that we did not try.

Lovely traditional cafe. Even though they were run off their feet I was still made to feel welcome. Nice tea and cake and some of the meals coming out looked great, I wish I'd ordered something more substantial. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in Richmond.

Omfg had pork and stuffing bun roasted potatoes and gravy was the most tender pork I've ever had and so much flavor the gravy was devine so much so I didn't want the meal to end and as always the service was second to none thumbs up

Hubby had researched before we came on holiday, he wanted a full English, he was not disappointed! I really enjoyed the poached eggs on brown toast too. Great value.

Sometimes get takeout Sunday dinner always beautiful, I have never had anything to complain about, I like this better than local carverys

The service of beverage is inadequate and disappointed there advertise can's of drinks but you actually can't have the can this is something just implemented and hence my drink went flat quickly which spoilt my dinning experience however the food as always was beautiful

Our usual place for Sunday lunch was fully booked. So we chose to have a drive to Richmond. As we parked in the Market Place it was raining so we made a retreat to the Market hall. To our surprise the cafe inside the Hall was serving Sunday carvery . We found a table ordered and WOW!!! excellent great plate of food good choice of veg plus generous cuts of Meat. Reasonable priced too. Lovely friendly staff. Thank you

Great cup of tea service good and food excellent but we only had take away quiche which we would recommend. Sunday lunch looked amazing but we were going to travel over the moors so did not have the time to taste it.

Had the most amazing poached eggs we have ever eaten, cooked perfectly with quality wholemeal toast. A great cafe within the Victorian Indoor Market, well worth a visit !

Following a visit to Richmond Castle we popped into the market cafe for a bite to eat. I enjoyed an all day breakfast while my wife and daughter had a panini with a huge plate of chips / salad. Food was excellent and very well priced. Would highly recommend. We will be back next time we visit Richmond.

Needed a disc for parking, so asked for this as we arrived. Unfortunately there were none where we were directed to. Having pointed this out, were snapped at and told to ask elsewhere in the market and the lady disappeared out the back. Despite calling out that we wanted to order breakfast, she didn't return. A very disappointing first experience in trying to eat out in Richmond. Thankfully the welcome in the Cross View Tearooms was much nicer and helpful.

Excellent breakfast, highly recommendeded, great service and fantastic price. Situated inside the local market hall. Very helpful friendly staff, happy to accommodate.

Our holiday was cancelled so we decided to go to richmond to have a lok a round found this loverly cafe in market hall which houses a few stalls what a loverly set of girls everythink was spotless hand sanitising showed us to our seat we orded cheese toasty when it came they was salad coleslaw and loverly chips that we orded it was beautiful and made a sad day in to a nice day which we trav ve d from washington tynewear thank you for a loverly lunch and big smiles well worth the travel 10 out of 10 these girls and the cook they desive a pat on the back see you again soon

The ladies who worked there were extremely pleasant and the food was of a very high standard far exceeding what we would have thought for a market cafe. Excellent

If you are in Richmond North Yorkshire and looking for somewhere to have a good breakfast - have a little tour of the indoor market and then have your breakfast at the cafe.

This little cafe hidden away does the best all day breakfast around town. I’d gladly go every day if funds allowed it.

Called in for a light snack during our Richmond stop-off on our way to Wensleydale. We were looking round the market hall and it looked very inviting. Wish we had been more hungry as the meals being served looked excellent in both quality and quantity.....

When in Richmond, this little cafe within the market hall is a regular dinner time visiting place for us. Lovely staff, friendly and approachable, always looking out for their elderly regulars. Very clean kitchen and dining areas. Dog friendly. The food is so well priced...

Only called for a coffee historically but took friends for all day breakfast today, Food well cooked, large portions and served quickly with a smile. One of the local papers did a blind visit and also gave excellent reports on all fronts.

Best Sunday dinner we have eaten out for a long time ,all fresh produce ,nothing frozen and really tasty gravy, the roast beef melted in your mouth ,so tender and we had bread pudding to follow ,delicious and not a bit stodgy served with nice...

It's an amazing little place to have breakfast and lunch, the owners and staff are always smiling and friendly. Food of course it's delicious! So do not hesitate and go there you will not regret! Great food & great prices

Lovely little cafe situated in the middle of Richmond market place. We popped in for a Sunday lunch and were highly delighted with the gorgeous homemade cooked food, everything was made with local fresh produce and was delicious, very friendly staff and cleanliness is second...

Had the Sunday roast beef dinner, served with fresh vegetables. None of that frozen rubbish here. Everything on their menu was home made, using local produce. I would highly recommend the Market Cafe.

We had a lovely elevenses meal here. We only ordered sandwiches, and was well impressed with the size of the fillings. Very good value for money and great food.

Thought we'd support a local venture ..so glad we did .Situated in the indoor market a little cafe that serves wonderful home cooked food, beautifully served. The staff are really friendly nd helpful make you feel at home. Will definitely go again and recommendation it...

Great service from the owners, and really quick & friendly. Myself and a friend came for lunch on our lunch break and it didn't disappoint. Will definitely be coming back!
