The best restaurants serving Default food in Dartmouth and Kingswear South Hams South West

We were attracted to this market stall by the queue. Apart from the fresh cook-your-own options, they also serve a very limited (!) takeaway lunch menu. We opted for seafood chowder, and were not disappointed; in fact it brightened a rainy day.

A super burger restaurant just off the main road in Dartmouth. A relatively small number of covers...so book....but well worth it. The smash burgers and chicken burger are delicious (family x4 eating), the drinks menu excellent and lovely service from the Yarn team.

We arrived in Dartmouth for a weeks holiday and after reading the reviews thought Bushell’s Upper Deck sounded great so we walked down to give it a go. It’s a pop up restaurant and it was its last night of the summer. They welcomed us, explained as it was their last night there was a limited menu. We had a super meal, starters of squid and garlic flatbread, followed by seafood risotto and American pizza, finished off with tiramisu and ice cream. Fabulous food, great service, very friendly and welcoming and fabulous views. We certainly struck lucky! Thank you!

Perfect! Owners lovely. So welcoming, friendly and helpful. Room beautiful and well equipped. Breakfast amazing too. Nothing bad to say. Just great!!

Friday lunch visiting BFF and we were delighted to get a table - somewhere we’ve both wanted to go for a while. From start to finish it was a brilliant, life enriching experience. We went for the tasting menu, one wine pairing (one driver…) and sat in the window. I don’t want to painstakingly describe each dish - but there were all hits and no misses. Food and service executed with aplomb and totally delightful. We are still discussing how to make a celeriac velouté. A special note to Michael the sommelier who delivered the wine pairings with verve, knowledge and charm. I’m already looking at sourcing some of the superb wines he paired with our food. The whole experience was a delight and I’m hoping to get back in the not too distant future and highly recommended.

I can honestly say the meal I had last night was amazing. I had not booked and was solo dining but that was no problem (normally I am certain booking would be essential). The restaurant is a lovely experience and has a very relaxed atmosphere with a great selection of music at just the right volume. Food is small plates and the recommended 2-3 plates was perfect, I added a side and dessert and small appetiser. Dishes are served in order as they appear on the menu. Each was absolutely delicious and were complemented by a delicious Italian red. Service was friendly and came with great explanations of the dishes.

This place is a hidden gem. Jenny runs a fantastic little cafe. The food is top quality, always freshly made. Highly recommended.

Fabulous sea food treat with excellent service - always a pleasure coming to this restaurant - and they are very welcoming to the woofers.

Waiting staff need further training. Our bottle of Chablis (£42) was brought to the table, already opened and then left in the cooler on the table! Children were given adult menus with no mention of any alternative. Upon asking, there were some options. No prices given though. I had the Sea Bream. It was filleted, but skin was unfortunately soft and inedible. Otherwise this dish was decent. My husband opted for the whole Sole. That was ok if you’re prepared to put the work in taking it off the bone yourself (they refused to do it). My daughter had the ribs and regretted it. Huge portion, but overcooked and dry. Desserts were just as average. Soft pastry on my lemon tart. We would have skipped desserts, but it was a “Regatta set menu” so would have been paying for a minimum of 2 courses anyway at £35 per head. Bill arrived with service already included, but stating service not included! So be aware. Bad enough paying for service when you have to pour your own wine, let alone paying twice! Overall, an expensive meal, with poor service and very average food. We wouldn’t return.

We popped over from Dartmouth for a walk and a drink. Decided to go into the Packet for a drink and sat up at the decked/roof area, which has a fantastic view over the river, train station, and is lovely and cosy. We had wine and beer and found the staff to be very friendly and a warm atmosphere. Beer selection was great, and my wife enjoyed her wine. Can't say if the food is good as we just had a drink. Might pop in again, if for nothing else but to enjoy the view.

We shared the seafood grazer with some buttered new potatoes, it was fantastic and also brilliant value for money. Our waitress was so friendly and took the time to chat to us. It really was the highlight of our visit to Dartmouth, we will be back!

Great location with views over the river. We were seated outside under a canopy on a bench table with no back, so not too comfortable. The food was fresh and delicious and service friendly and efficient.
