Teenage son and I almost fell out on an unexpected 180 mile round trip as he wanted to eat and I wanted good coffee - at traffic lights I spotted the sign for TEA ROOM and pulled in. What a find! Lovely tables and chairs, pictures on the wall. Small menu, but everything freshly made / made to order - can't fault it all. Son had sausage sandwich and I had smoked salmon, fresh brown bread with salad garnish and crisps. Coffee came in a cafetiere (oh joy!) and we both had the coffee and walnut cake. Highly recommend this delightful little place. Sad that I live so far away -but I hope to be back coffee and cake!

Have just enjoyed one of the best restaurant Sunday roasts we’ve ever had. We are visiting the area as part of my mum-in-law’s 90th birthday celebrations, as she was born in the area, and we picked the Boxing Hare from its reviews on here. This is a lovely, cosy dining pub, which was absolutely perfect in every way! We had a lovely reception on arrival and the staff also went out of their way to make a wonderful fuss of the birthday girl, making it a memorable and special occasion which she enjoyed very much! All of this made it feel like we’d made a good choice and this was absolutely confirmed by the fantastic food we enjoyed. The Boxing Hare is wonderfully good, with brilliant staff and amazing food. We had a fantastic meal here and cannot recommend it highly enough. Thanks to everyone there for making it such a special occasion!

Proper old school pub with no fuss food options, great beers on tap and friendly staff. Had a lovely Sunday lunch with a group of 5 of us, the pub was packed but to be expected as it’s pretty tiny inside, we really loved that it hasn’t changed in years. It was quite cold out so they had the fire going inside which made it even cosier. The food is no nonsense, mostly classic pub grub, but not quite as good as expected. Sauces were a little sweet and portions were maybe a little mean. I’d say it’s actually a better pub for drinking and soaking up the atmosphere! The beer selection is the highlight for me, particularly the Wadsworth Swordfish ale, so good! (When booking, make sure you ask for a table in the room with the bar)

lovely food.. l should have asked for a spare plate and only one serving of sandwiches between me and mum - mum and l had cheese and fig chutney sandwiches - crisps and green salad. Dad had one of his favorite sandwiches. l had a juice and pot of tea for one.. my dad had a beer l think and mum had ginger beer. service was ok.. bit slow but totally understanding that there where a lot of people dining in on account of the rain. it was really nice to see a few of the same staff we saw on our last visit in February. l really liked the rooms and loved just sitting there looking around at the artwork etc while eating my lunch.
