Celebrated our 6-year anniversary at The Boxing Hare – an unforgettable experience. Jurgn and the entire team made it special. Fantastic food too. Planning a return for sure!

My first time at the restaurant that my wife has visited before. Stacey and her team were so welcoming and warm treating me like an old friend. Absolutely faultless service and fantastic food, probably the best pub Sunday lunch I’ve had!! Really looking forward to going back and would highly recommend!

WOW what a fabulous place. We were recommended to the Boxing Hare and it did not disappoint. We ate the Cote de Bouef which was delicious and cooked exactly as we had requested. Lovely hot crispy triple cooked chips. Puddings were divine too. It was our anniversary and they made it very special for us. A table by the fire, complimentary glass of wine and excellent service. A special shout out to Rosie and Katie for looking after us so well.

We have been dining at the Boxing Hare for over 5 years now and have always had great service and food, the staff bring a great atmosphere and the food is delicious! No matter whether it’s a mid week lunch or a Saturday night dinner the quality is always good and the menu offers variety with their specialties always available. I recommend the Boxing Hare to all my friends & family and know they will have a wonderful meal which is a true testament!

Best gastropub in the area. Welcoming owners, fabulous food, great local beers. Amazing cote de boeuf and soufflé. We love it here. Also v dog friendly.

This used to be a lovely restaurant, but not any more. Today, I was served a collapsed soufflé and overdone lamb. Horrible food.

Eight of us had an excellent meal with great service in lovely surroundings on Thursday night, as part of a long weekend in Oxfordshire. Will definitely visit again when next in the area.

Last visited The Boxing Hare a couple of years ago and we have been meaning to go back for ages. As the winter closed in we started to revisit our list of places for Sunday lunch and books a table at the Hare. Very busy on arrival but the staff were on top of everything, very organised and a lovely warm welcome. We order two roast beef for lunch and the food was very good indeed. Didn't stop ever so long but the lunch we had and the way we were looked after by the staff was just as we excepted, top drawer. If you're in the area call up and book a table, you will not be disappointed.

Visiting the area for the first time and staying nearby, we booked the Boxing Hare for dinner for seven friends & family, celebrating a birthday. It was a great choice!! The menu was excellent and all the food ordered was enjoyed by everyone. Everything on the menu is prepped and cooked on site, and it showed - really delicious, especially the 70 day dry aged beef! The staff, Finn, Lily and Jurgen, we’re friendly and likeable and the service excellent. We had a great evening and if we lived nearer we would go there often!

Great venue, quirky, cosey and great staff. We both ordered the duo with lamb and beef. Everything was seasoned well, the sides were equally delicious. (The carrots were just delicious, cabbage yum). Attentive staff, food came quickly. Super satisfied - thank you.

Lovely night out once again. Having lived in London previously, with our favoured steak spot being Barbecoa (St Paul’s), we love going out and seeking a quality steak. This was our second trip to The Boxing Hare (the first being on Aug 23), and once again the Côte de Boeuf was excellent, and cooked perfectly to the rarer side of medium-rare (as is our preference). The Boxing Hare is very much the best steak we have found locally. Both our starters were delicious (Cheese soufflé, Scallops with Black Pudding) as were the desserts (Cantuccini with Vin Santo, Sticky Toffee Pudding). Nice range of wines on the menu also. The staff (Izzy and Finn) were delightfully friendly, all adding to the ambience of the evening, and we’re looking forward to our next opportunity to visit already! A very very minor suggestion - could a few extra crackers be added to the cheeseboards, the cheese portions are so very generous!

Wonderful greeting from staff who found us a table as we had not pre-booked which is really necessary on a Friday and weekends. Their staff knew the menu and wine. Fabulous meal, amazing steak which was cooked to perfection, wine and service. Not forgetting the pudding !!! We look forward to returning.

Food was ok. Service was poor. There were issues paying due to an issue with their Wi-Fi/card payment, however this was attributed to my ability to pay in the first, second, and third instances. Fourth attempt on a second machine, with my first payment method, was successful - no apology.

First impressions were extremely good, immaculate gardens, huge gravelled car park so no issues there. Upon entering we were warmly greeted by the staff and shown to a wonderful table in the corner as requested.We noticed immediately the warmth and character of the place that has been created here . It was our first visit but very quickly we felt very special by the attentiveness of the hostess. The place got busier and busier but they seemed to take it in their stride . We all ordered three courses, all arrived in excellent time and were delicious. Lovely to see sweetbreads on the menu, perfect cheese soufflé , wonderful prawn spaghetti. Onto the star of the day the roast dinners. The meat was superb, plenty of vegetables, huge Yorkshire puddings. As it was a birthday celebration we all opted for pudding,chocolate fondant, Etons mess with the addition of the juiciest blackberries and my husbands Peach Melba . All in all a pretty perfect meal along with the kindness from the lady of the house to help amuse our grandson we would not hesitate in highly recommending a trip to this perfectly run pub . Really good welcome, charming service, good food. We ate, variously, cheddar soufflé, smoked salmon, venison and herb crusted lamb. All enjoyable (not amazing but very good, although we wondered whether they’d accidentally printed £42 on the menu for 1 portion of lamb and then thought, let’s leave it on there, see who pays it - it was nice but not £42 worth of nice!) We then had peanut butter parfait which was awesome and chocolate fondant, which was very good. This is a sexy, charming and welcoming pub / restaurant and we’ll definitely be back. The bill was £180 for 2 including a bottle of Montepulciano and 1 cocktail so it’s not cheap but it was a good overall experience.

We visited The Boxing Hare today for Sunday lunch as we are visiting the area for a few days. We had our 2 dogs with us, and we were made to feel really welcome from the moment we arrived. Every member of the team was so friendly and provided water bowls and treats for the dogs. Now, where do I start on the meal?! The wine was perfect, chosen from a varied and extensive wine list. The starters were simply sublime. I thoroughly enjoyed the cured salmon, and my Wife wanted to stay there forever with the twice baked cheese souffle! My Mother-in-Law had a beautiful Dover Sole while my Wife and I had the Sunday roast. I opted for the trio of roasts because I couldn't choose between lamb, beef and pork. All were cooked perfectly for me (although the beef was a bit too rare for my Wife). Desserts were gorgeous, followed by liqueur coffees. It is just as well that we didn't have anything else, as I would have to start recycling my superlatives! It was not cheap, but I firmly believe that you get what you pay for, and this was a very high quality experience in every respect. I would heartily recommend The Boxing Hare and plan to book again when we are next in this area.

We had a great night. Rang at the last minute and they squeezed us in, very accommodating. Food was lovely, as were the drinks, and the free bottle of wine! Stacey was amazing, we asked if she could arrange a taxi, which she did but as it was going to be a like while she gave a bootleg of whine, on the house, to drink while we waited. She also took us around the bar and restaurant, a great set up. We had visited the Boxing Hare back in 2019 and had such a great experience that we decided to book a table for my husbands birthday in July this year. Unfortunately, the meal and experience didn’t live up to our previous trip. However it stared off well as we had the cheese soufflé as a starter which we must admit was delicious and we would recommend. But it went downhill from there as the burger was less than average and the other dishes we ordered were swimming in so much butter it was far too rich. The service was incredibly slow and no one came to ask us how our meal was and if we needed anything. We had to go up to the bar twice, once to ask for a spoon to eat the spaghetti with and lastly to ask for the bill after an hour of not being approached by the staff as it seemed we had been completely forgotten. We were then told as we were paying for the bill that we should have mentioned it was a birthday meal as we would have been given a free glass of Prosecco even though this was mentioned when booking a table via their website online. Unfortunately it was not a positive experience for us and it has put us off returning again.

A reasonably long trip to be informed (at 1.48 pm) that the restaurant “closed at 2pm. The website says 3 pm so it’s a waste of time. Please update your website.

We booked in for Sunday lunch for our anniversary . We were greeted and wished happy anniversary by the staff , then seated and given a complementary glass of bubbly ,which was a lovely surprise . We both had a starter and Sunday roast which was cooked to perfection. There was no room for dessert ( next time ) Fabulous food , fabulous staff . We will definitely be returning and would 100% recommend .

What an amazing place! I wanted to take my husband out for a nice meal for his birthday so we booked here after a recommendation. We are careful with money so only go to places like this for an occasion! We had a 6.30pm booking on a Friday. We were early, so when we were greeted we grabbed a drink to take outside to catch the view before going to our table! It’s so beautiful out there and our greeting was so friendly - everyone there was so friendly and treated us like we were special customers from the moment we arrived! Our table was in the garden room - absolutely gorgeous!! It wasn’t busy but was getting busier while we were eating. We had the prawn fritters and chorizo to start and shared then - they were both lovely! For our main we had the Cote De Boeuf - we’ve never had anything like that before and when it came, wow is all i can say! I like my beef blue and my husband likes his medium - they managed to please both of us which i was amazed by - compliments to the chef for sure - the taste and the texture was amazing! It was the most stunning main course we’ve ever had and i don’t say that lightly! So all in all, although the meal was more expensive than we would usually spend, my god was it worth it! That makes it great value because we were totally wowed by the service, the setting and the food! We will be back!!!!!
