I took some clients to the Mill for lunch. They run an Auberge in France and have always been in the catering business. When they returned home at the end of their week long trip they told me the most enjoyable meal/visit was at the meal. They loved the service, the food and the place. High praise.

You say you can seat 50 but the back room we were in only had two tables spare, which in the end were not even used by others. Considering our family paid about £500 in total it was a poor management decision.

The Mill House is in a genuine Cotswold Mill on the river at Kingham, between Stow on the Wold and Chipping Norton. This area has much to choose from with a lot of newcomers to the restaurant scene in this village alone, but you will not be disappointed with the very warm welcome in this beautiful hotel and most definitely the most idyllic setting in the village. The Hotel, Restaurant and Bar have recently been fully restored by the young family who own the Mill and who are also locals themselves, so they know the area very well and as a result cater for a wider range of customers. They have roaring log fires or a fire pit on the river terrace, lots of space for kids to run around, But still with plenty of quiet corners if that's what you prefer. Food & service are consistently outstanding and wine list and beers well chosen. The Mill has been through a number of changes over the years. At last it seems to be in the care of people with real flare, good taste and a strong sense of service. We have been with friends, with family, to a wedding, and just on our own as a couple. Every-time we we have had a great time. Thanks all at The Mill House.

Stopped by for lunch over the holidays and enjoyed the place. Food was very good with a varied menu. It does a brisk business but the service was excellent with no waiting around for food. Very nice, clean atmosphere for a restaurant in the country. I would easily go again. One of three great restaurants in Kingham.

Family lunches at the Mill House Hotel are always very pleasant, particularly in the bar with its big picture windows overlooking the garden seating and the brook. It is a favourite with locals, as the other two pub/restaurants in the village regularly receive a star billing in the national newspapers and attract a certain clientele. The resulting competition ensures high standards in all three establishments. The Mill House provides good food from an interesting menu which is served by friendly but professional staff. The dining room is more "formal" than the bar, but you are made to feel welcome and comfortable wherever you are. The larger tables in the bar are great for families, and the atmosphere is light and airy. In the summer, the south facing outside seating is perfect, and the expansive grounds allow children space to play. Others have noted that the Mill House is popular with retired couples, but this is an excellent spot for people of all ages

Booked a table here in advance as part of a romantic break in the Cotswolds. Had read reviews and also popped in during the day and had high hopes for a special evening, unfortunately didn't quite meet expectations. On arrival at 7.45pm (table booked for 8pm) we had drinks outside as it was a pleasant evening , I was surprised that our order was requested whilst we were still outside. We had booked in the a la carte restaurant and I would of preferred to have been shown to our table to order. Once seated in restaurant our starters arrived immediately with no chance to relax or talk. Starters very nice but nothing out of this world. I had crayfish and crab and it was literally just that really not a lot of imagination there. Partners soup very tasty and a good colour. Starters cleared and again the main arrived almost straight away, obviously as a result of our early order request, it felt totally rushed. I'd ordered lamb which was very nice however lacked vegetables , now I know its served as a 'complete meal' and I wasn't expecting a side dish of veg but I'd hardly call a few finely chopped leeks as the vegetable portion of the dish, as a result it was very rich as there was nothing to balance the lamb. I couldn't finish it and couldn't eat a dessert as I was feeling a bit sick! Partner ate my dessert as we were having 3 course, he enjoyed both! Just so you can gauge how rushed it was we sat down at 8pm and by 8.45pm our mains had been cleared! We vacated our table at 9pm and went into the bar for a drink but booked a taxi back to our lodge as we hadn't felt relaxed all evening. I don't know why we were rushed as they weren't particularly busy and the restaurant was not full and tables didn't appear to be needing to be turned over for later arriving diners so I can only assume staff wanted to get off home?? Was a little disappointed and despite the general good quality of the food probably wouldn't return again, if we did it wouldn't be in the restaurant would probably be for a bar meal where we could order at our leisure and take our time!

I have been to the mill house on a number of occasions. Having arrived at lunchtime on a Saturday, we were told that there would be no food served due to their hosting a wedding reception. No food at all, not even a sandwich! I am afraid that their attitude very much seems to be that if they are catering for large parties, then either locals or visitors who wish to call in for lunch or dinner are not welcome. I have been there before and experienced a similar reception and frankly it is not good enough. I also overheard a couple who walked out of the place having booked a room, but not told that there was a wedding reception being held at the place. The beer is good, and the only reason I have not rated this place 'terrible'. In future, please put a large sign up stating that there is a wedding and therefore there will be no service to 'ordinary' customers!!

We had a terrific Sunday lunch here in March 2014 - the food was absolutely perfectly cooked - spot on roast beef and yorkshire pud - and the service was friendly and efficient. The Mill has been taken over and re-furbed beautifully and is a family run establishment which shows in the care taken over every detail. MUCH better value and actually better food than other somewhat more hyped establishments in the village - also hasn't been hijacked by London trendies, a definite plus - there are more local cars in the carpark, without Kensington and Chelsea parking permits! Always a good sign! We live locally and will definitely be back - and I haven't heard anything but high praise from other locals too - first rate.

The setting is ideal for a leisurely midweek lunch either in the bar or on the terrace (if the sun is shining). The bar tables were full when we arrived (always a good sign) with pensioners lunching. The 3 course menu with 3 choices for each was £16. The starters included a very smooth tomato and red pepper soup, pate and smoked mackeral and mains included cod and old spot pork chop. Portions were not large but the 3 courses were well balanced and extremely tasty. There is also a carte menu where the portions were larger. Drinks were not expensive and serving wine by the glass (2 sizes) was ideal for a lunchtime light tipple. The restaurant here looked "classy" and the menu is different to that in the bar. Although part of the hotel the bar retained a good "village pub" attitute as walkers came in to eat, boots and all. Dogs could be accomodated on the terrace. This hotel deserves to thrive as it gives tourists good value well cooked flavoursome food and is competition for some of its pricier neighbours.

We visited The Mill for the first time with friends last night and had a fantastic evening. I understand that it has recently been refurbished and in doing so the owners have given it a contemporary feel but at the same time making it welcoming and friendly. The outside is picturesque, with a huge expanse of green, green lawn leading down to a small river and the outside patio area has lots of seating and is well lit for sitting eating and drinking as the evening begins to darken. Most importantly, the food is excellent; good quality and perfectly adequate portions. I had rib eye steak and asked for medium rare - it was perfectly cooked! The homemade petit fours are to die for........

Popped in here for a quick lunch recently - despite living just up the road I had never been here before. Everything looks clean & new - I understand that this hotel has recently changed hands. We were too late for the lunchtime menu which ends at 2pm, but were quickly offered the sandwich menu. An interesting choice, on a variety of breads, seved with rocket & some chunky chips. The food came quickly & service was professional & friendly. My sandwich in a sourdough roll was well filled & tasty - the sourdough was very crunchy- making it a bit messy to eat, but delicious nonetheless. The only downside was the chunky chips, which seemed to be a cross between chips & roast potatoes & were saturated in fat & a bit too rich for my taste. They didn't detract from what was overall a good lunch, in nice comfortable surroundings of the bar. The hotel is set in lovely rural grounds which will be spectacular in summer. The outside tables were taken by smokers when we were there, but hopefully there will be some "non-smoking" tables somewhere in the grounds when summer arrives, to allow others to enjoy the beautiful setting. I won't hesitate to come here for lunch again, & look forward to retuning soon.

Visited on 4th May with husband and daughter. As my surname is Kingham I have always wanted to visit the village. Found the staff to be extremely welcoming and friendly. They seemed to appreciate that we would be more comfortable eating in the bar than the restaurant but were not at all patronising. Service and meal excellent although I must confess the steak was tasty but rather fatty around the edge. Much preferred the attitude of the owners of The Mill to those of the other renowned pub/restaurant in the village.

Disappointing visit and disappointing food sad to say. There was a nice vibe from the chatty locals but the pie pastry was hard as hell, when I got through that, I made it to the chewy meat. No gin, other than flavoured gin and to top it off, no till roll so no itemised bill, strange! Would I return no!

We called ahead to the pub as we needed a camper stopover close Brize Norton. The landlord Dave was incredibly helpful and we were able to make use of the ample flat car park at the back of the pub for the night we needed. The facilities in the pub are first class and service was excellent - Dave went above and beyond to make our stay an absolute pleasure. Staff and locals were all friendly and welcoming to us. We were lucky it was ‘vinyls night’ so were treated to some great music while we were having drinks in the bar. Highly recommended, I’m sure we will be back soon
