For a variety of reasons I had not been to the Royal Oak for some time and went there for a drink with friends.
I was horrified to see how the decor had deteriorated to such an extent it could only be described as shabby and well past the time that refurbishment should have taken place.
The covering fabric on the benches was so dilapidated that in places it had disappeared the supporting fabric underneath was wearing out.
The door to the ladies toilet, where it was being pushed to open it, had worn off to below the primer and looked grubby. I chose not to use the toilets for fear of what I might find.
Greene King should be ashamed to put their sign above the door and improve the environment that the staff, who were cheerful and polite, have to work in representing the Company.
Walked to the pub on Sunday and had roast beef dinner which was delicious, also had a cold pint of Thatchers Haze yum
Itwas a beautiful sunny dates I ate in the lovely garden and watched the world go by
Definatly love this local pub with its cheerful happy staff and lovely atmosphere
Thank you Chef, and staff
If you like sitting in a bright, stark cafe-type establishment with loud noise reverberating off the walls, and zero ambience, then this place is right up your street.
Unfortunately we hate all of these things when looking for a place to eat out in the evening. Just 1 of the waiters should any warmth or gave us any attention. The rest couldn't be bothered and pretty much threw things down on the table infront of us - almost with contempt? ....
The food? Bland & tasteless.
Never again.

before our food was delivered we had a call from the previous delivery to say they thought they had our order and we may get theirs. that was what happened and the deliveries were swapped over. once we started to dish up after getting our 'order' we discovered that we had received 2 chips, when we only ordered one and the large battered sausage was missing tried to ring the shop only for the phone to ring out, twice.
I am certainly not surprised they are having to close. Family & friends have frequented here on more occasions than I can recall, consequently spending a vast amount of money. As seen in other reviews, we too experienced Roger's totally unjustified anger issues, this was witnessed by many who, after he had reduced us to tears, shared how they too had seen standards drop, staff being treated poorly as well as several having been on the end of his temper. I definitely think retirement is the best thing for all as it will enable Roger time to seek help for his anger issues and maybe his wife will be able to find her smile that left years ago. As is clear from previous comments, he will never accept any responsibility
We were on a road trip and met family here for a lunch before continuing. None of us had been here before but I figured why not.
Portions are MASSIVE. Food is good. I had chicken parm sandwich, mother in law had the chicken parm pasta, father in law had the Chefs special a seafood linguini and my son decided the patty melt was good. We could not finish it all. The staff was attentive, the place was busy, clean, friendly, and everything went well. We all enjoyed our food.
Really friendly staff, very reasonably priced, decent sized portions, tasty cod and chips, and didn’t have to wait even at 6:30 on a Friday night. Excellent.
Good for a lunch stop when walking around town. Food is tasty and well cooked, staff are friendly. The only slight downside is the seating area is a bit crammed but overall seats are comfortable. Place is clean and tidy.
I just dropped in to buy bread & cakes, and noticed a tray of succulent looking lemon tarts.........On arriving home I was tempted to try the lemon tart with a cup of coffee. What a disaster. Virtually NO lemon in it at all. Just a sweetish gunge. It really was unpleasant to eat..................
