Both mains were different by a sprinkling of onions and green stuff on one but the same sauce and not as described on the menu. A very average takeaway and disappointed.

We have been here a few times, both dining in and also takeaway. We have always had a fantastic time, the gentleman serving are very welcoming and attentive. The food is wonderful, I'm baffled by the previous reviews as I can not stress enough how far from our experience it is. The food is flavourful, fresh and plentiful. Always warm plates and folded napkins, food is served in good time. In fact, the timing between drinks orders, poppadoms, starters to main is perfect. We will always choose Purbani Stockbridge, whether it's takeaway or eating in.

I visited this establishment 2 years ago after moving to Stockbridge and had a very unpleasant experience, the food was tasteless and cold (takeaway I might add and only a two minute drive) so I vowed never to go back however, I like to support local businesses and thought I would try again this evening and was yet again bitterly disappointed with the flavourless food and poor service. Nothing has changed since my last visit and will definitely not be going back again which is such a shame because they are local. I would not recommend them in any shape or form. Please do not waste your money.

We were greeted by a lovely young waiter, who allowed us to choose our table(they were empty). We ordered and the food was fine. Not amazing but nice enough (the onion bharjees were really nice). When the bill came, there was a 10% service charge added. I asked if this was discretionary and could it be removed please. The waiter (an older, tall guy-not the polite guy who served us through the meal), said we had to pay it, everyone does. I said that tipping in the UK is not obligatory and asked to speak to a manager. He said there wasn't one and repeated I had to pay this service charge. I pointed out that although the food had been OK it was expensive (I've just worked out that their take away menu online would have totaled £39.30 but actually cost £55.05 for the food, so although I expected it to be slightly more expensive than the take away menu - which is quite sneaky that that's the only menu online - I didn't expect £15. 95 more - you could argue that that covers the service charge) and so I'd only be paying the bill without the service charge. I should add I was polite the whole time, but his response as he took just the bill amount was "well don't ever come back here again!". Sorry, but as if I would. Overpriced, average food, with an ignorant and shocking rude waiter.

Fantastic Indian food. We went with some good friends for our annual catch up and were very, very impressed by the place. We were fairly loud, so were placed in an empty part of the restaurant which is fine, but the food and service were very good. Particular mention to the Chicken Dhansak and the Lamb Korai, which were superb, but everything was delicious. A little pricey, perhaps, but this is Stockbridge, but overall, a superb Indian restaurant. Try it.

Warm beer 👎 and a very average curry, not welcoming at all. Far too expensive for the standard, and an insulting 10% service charge added to the bill that they seemed unwilling to split into separate bills for our party of 3. Avoid, and spend your money somewhere else who would appreciate your custom.

Having seen good reviews from previous diners myself and a group of work colleagues decided to give it a go. Booking a table was straight forward and that was, sadly, the highlight of the experience. Ordering food and drinks for a table of four was an easy experience, however we were ill prepared for what was to follow. When the food arrived, despite one of the group advising the waiter she was intolerant of corriander, she was presented with a portion of rice laden with the stuff. One person ordered the keema rice and was given pilau rice instead, this was put right after the rest of us were at least five minutes into our meals. We decided to persist with the experience and continued with our meals with no further issues, that was untill it came to bill time. £5.50 each for 2 poppadoms and accompanying garnishes, of which only one was enough for four to share. Most expensive poppadoms I've encountered and I've had quite a few over the years. Billing for the mains and rice seemed normal but the wine was about £10 a glass and was not that good a tipple to justify the price, hey ho you live and learn, thankfully I stuck with the warm Kingfisher so didn't have that disappointment. The disparity between the bills at the end was mind boggling as two of the party had exactly the same apart from pilau and keema rice but had a £7 difference in the bill, go figure as the waiter sure couldn't explain it. Oh there is also a compulsory 10% service charge added onto your bill as well, not sure if that is hidden in the menu smallprint somewhere, but for the service we recieved 10% was pretty generous if you ask me. Would any of us return there? The answer is a resounding no, the quality does not reflect the price. There are better Indian, or other style, restaraunts available so think wisely before choosing to eat here.

Having dined at Purbani several years ago, I was keen to revisit as it was an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately this time around I was bitterly disappointed. I dined this evening with a group of work colleagues and the food quality was barely average. There were a few errors with our order but as it was reasonably busy, these things can be accepted and in fairness the errors were rectified. The surprise ultimately arrived at the billing point where we were each charged £5.50 for two poppadoms. When I queried this I was rudely told that I did not understand the bill and that we were each being charged £3.30 for the associated dips. A quick calculation amounts to £22.00 for 8 poppadoms! No, I believe the answer is that you are ripping us off, not that we don't understand the bill. Insultingly a 10% service charge was lumped onto our individual bills (which makes 2 poppadoms now £6.05). Again the query was met with disdain. We also requested the service charge to be removed as it is not covered under the expense policy. Again met with confusion and associated ignorance. I stated that the service and interaction was very disappointing. Also that they would lose any future business from our company based on this experience. The staff member could not have cared less and was more interested in taking payment. Avoid unless you enjoy sub standard food, service and an unjustified dent in your wallet. We won't be back! Shameful.

Food was good, and to be fair it all appeared fairly quickly. However unfortunately the service was just a little lost. There only seemed to be one person capable of doing anything whilst everyone else just drifted around aimlessly. If you ever asked a drifter for anything they just went to fetch the main guy. Also felt like it was very expensive for just a curry. £70 for two people with no booze. Owch.

Hm, this is tricky. Food excellent - & it was really busy despite us being there very early - but the service was bizarrely unfriendly. One waiter was nice but the others were all verging on rude & I genuinely don't think we did anything wrong as they were like this literally from the moment we walked in. So a tough one to review: the food was really good & I'd happily go back for that but we really weren't made to feel very welcome at all so that would probably deter us from going again. Shame, though, as it was delicious & clearly lots of other people like it. Maybe they like their regulars & are less hospitable to one-offs but who's to say that one-offs won't turn into regulars. Anyway, an odd experience & not one I'll be rushing to repeat.

Very disappointed with the service here today. A quiet Sunday night with 8 other diners but service was rude. Asked for 2 papadom each, just got served one each. Waiter mumbled something about what the dishes were when he served them. No-one checked if meal was OK during the meal, and no opportunity to ask for more drinks. Asked for the bill as soon as we finished and couldn't wait to leave! Food tonight was average at best, and when I got the bill, I had been charged for service 10%! I refused to pay that and the guy even argued with me about that!!! WE WILL NOT BE BACK AND WILL NEVER RETURN HERE!

They even brought it out to our car where we were waiting outside. We were glad we did wait as the meal was superb. I had a chiken tikka masala which was good, but the star dish was the sweet & sour lamb patia: absolutely delicious. As we were travelling home from London to Dorset on Friday evening we decided to call in at the Purbani. As we are all lovers of Asian food, we were looking forward to it. Our first impressions when we arrived was that the restaurant looked pleasant, it was busy and the waiters were all friendly. So far so good!We ordered a bottle of white wine which when we had drunk a little, realised it was the wrong one. The waiter apologised and bought us the correct one. We all ordered our meals (4 of us in total) One of our party ordered Chicken Pakora as a starter, which unfortunately was very dry. My husband had ordered Chicken Korai for his main course which he couldn't eat as it was too bitter and had a bizarre taste which he couldn't describe! He subsequently told the waiter who straight away asked if he wanted another dish, he too had Chicken Bhuna the same as myself. Unfortunately this was very bland and lacked flavour, so subsequently that didn't get eaten either.I am from and Indian background, my parents are from India and we regularly eat Indian/Asian food, so we were very disappointed with the food we were given. Needless to say, we will not be visiting the Purbani again.

We visited recently for our christmas meal and overall we loved the food. There were a few of us so as you can imagine it was fun. I personally had a chicken biryani, and i enjoyed it. The rice was a bit dry and bland, but the rest was nice. Large chicken chunks and enough to make a good meal. A couple of people were not as happy with their meal, but that may have been down to choice. The restaurant was clean and tidy but tends to lack any kind of atmosphere. The staff are helpful and pleasant.Right the main reason for the 3 star rating is the price. It seems very expensive for what was average food and a lack of any real atmosphereWe will probably go back as overall the food was ok, just wouldn't be too often as its expensive

Called in on way home from day in Southampton and received a warm welcome. To save going through the menu we ordered the set meal for 2 = lamb rogan josh and bhuna prawn as the mains. Starter of onion bhaji and tandoori chicken was good but was a little bland, whilst the sauces for the lamb and prawns were virtually indistinguishable. All in all extensive menu, good service, nicely presented dishes and satisfying portions, but could do with better spicing of dishes. Would go back again to try something else.

I have had plenty of curries this one was ok but nothing special. The portions were big enough. Although it was pricey the decor and food was worth it.Very friendly staff.

Here on a sunday night and almost the only diners because Stockbridge is such a quiet backwater - too many people dont realise what they are missing by not making more of the wonderful menu and cooking in this restaurant. The modern decor is supported by a similarly modern twist of indian favourties with a great focus on flavours rather than heavy hot spice and the result is wonderful food that is quite a treat

Standard of food was excellent, as was the service. Lots of good choice on the menu and they were busy on a Sunday night with local people and out of town visitors like ourselves. We last visited about 8 years ago, the place was unrecognisable, would really recommend.

Whilst staying Stockbridge last week we visited here twice and here I must state that on trying to go at eight pm on Saturday they were absolutely full, they offered us nine pm but we chose to return the following night (too hungry to wait even one hour!)As usual the food was excellent and this time in beautiful refurbished surroundings bright airy and tasteful. Staff were as polite and attentive as ever. This restaurant is the 'icing on the cake' to our regular mini breaks in Stockbridge . Thank you Purbani

We are so lucky to have this super restaurant and take away on our doorstep. From the moment the smiling staff greet you at the door through a glorious meal to the time to say goodbye, the Purbani is consistently good.

Plenty of alternative places to eat in and around Stockbridge but if you like Indian food this is recommended. It's recently been refurbished with an elegant modern look. Extensive menu and food quality/presentation along with Service was exemplary. Ice cream sweets excellent value - if you have enough room for one!

Well established and friendly upmarket restaurant that has a strong local following. Has recently been given a bit of a facelift which has added to the nice ambience.

What a find! Amongst the not-so-exciting other options in Stockbridge, this Indian restaurant serves up truly great food. My jalfrezi was perfect, and the rest of my family were also really happy with their choices. The service was also great, top marks, I just wish Purbani was our local!

Just stopped in Stockbridge for the night and found this lovely Indian restaurant,so thought we would give it a go, and we are so pleased we did. We had starters of samosas and bhaji's with main courses of tikka, masala and jalfrezzi with rice and bread and it was absolutely gorgeous. The restaurant itself was very nice, clean with good decor. The staff were very polite and helpful. I can't wait to go back to Stockbridge to eat here again. Brilliant value

We could find very few places to eat in Stockbridge on a dark Sunday night in late January then we came across Purbani. It was very quiet but oh it was a winner - from entering to leaving. The place was very clean, smart and warm and the staff could not have been any more helpful. There was a very comprehensive menu on offer and our starters, which were excellent, were served quickly and when we tasted our main dishes both my wife and I agreed they ranked amongst the best curries we had ever tasted ...and we have lots of curries! Next time we are in the area we will certainly return to the Purbani.

We rocked up unannounced on a very busy evening and they willingly slotted us in. OK so we had to hustle a bit and get out before the next booking arrived but we still had time and were not rushed once. Right from the pops and pickles through the starters and mains, the food was tasty, very varied and clearly not out of a gallon catering jug unlike some I have reviewed recently. We had two starters, two mains with rice a drink each plus 4 pops and pickles which came to £54. In Stockbridge Hampshire I'd say that wasn't bad. I wouldn't hesitate to go again if I was down that way.

This is a wonderful takeaway but we didn't realise it wasn't a sit down restaurant any more. But the lovely ladies let us sit down and we ate our fill with some of the best food we have ever eaten. Definitely enjoyed the momo platter and the curries are to die for. Definitely coming back!
