Afternoon tea: Delish sandwiches and scones, cakes looked nice but were a bit sickly and soggy. Stingy amount of cream and jam for 2. Tea was also stingy, small pot, no hot water as standard. Some of the servers were also quite rude. For the price it was disappointing
Very popular local community pub on the Landport Estate in Lewes. We visited for a cards evening and the pub was very busy. Average selection of ales and not aware that they do evening food but they did provide sandwiches etc for the cards evening. If you want a good meal then you would be better placed eating elsewhere in the town as this is mainly a games/drinking pub.
Having had a walk round town to find a fish & chip shop we passed the old plough with lots of people sitting outside & it looked really inviting.
A welcoming staff member taking glasses back in let us go ahead of us & saw I was looking at the board informed me they do have a kids menu.
As the menu had fish & chips most of us went for it & when ordering the bar lady was really patient as we had to return to the table to ask a question.
She was lovely with my youngest too when she ordered her drink.
The meals were beautifully cooked the fish said hand battered & it was so crisp & light & the chips were crisp & fluffy inside.
The bar lady didn’t need to be asked to bring my youngests dessert as that was included in the kids deal. We had actually forgot so her attentiveness to our service was very good.
I often think it’s hard for waiting staff to get a balance of checking on patrons to be approachable/present without disturbing them.
All the staff were really friendly & able to help us as when needed it.
We will definitely return to the old plough as the menu looked quite wide usual pub fayre but our last meals were anything to go by we’re sure the rest of the menu will be of the same standard.
Thanks to the staff for a lovely meal & lovely service.
Arrived on a lovely sunny day and so the pub was very busy. A waitress saw us waiting and checked us in and showed us to our table. We had a 6 month old with us and needed hot water to warm his bottle up and this was no problem, the water was replaced 3 times. Food was good, not too much of a wait. Waitress was attentive and looked after us well - thank you Chloe, you were great!
We visited for lunch a few months ago and we were very disappointed. It was a Tuesday and the service was dreadful. We had to go to the bar to order our own drinks as nobody had come to take our order. Food was very average. Staff didn't have a clue and were walking past dirty plates. We asked for the service charge to be removed especially as we were charged service on drinks we had got ourselves!!!!! The waitress questioned why we wouldn't pay for service and we pointed out that we hadn't had any service. She said ' well we're short staffed' !!! That's not our fault. Never again!!!
As a fairly regular visitor I have to say I’ve never experienced any problems.
And today was no different.
We were advised there was a bit of a delay with food orders, but quite honestly it was only the normal 15/20 minute wait from ordering to when our food arrived.
The quality was good, it was hot, well presented, and the staff serving it were very pleasant. Same with the deserts, although I could have eaten a larger portion, even though I probably shouldn’t!
& a pint was less than a fiver. You don’t get that in many places generally.
Absolutely beautiful place and the food was fantastic, I had a game pie which was delicious, the staff was also very friendly and good selection of larger.
Great atmosphere, went in for food but stayed quite late for drinks and the cocktail offer. Had the tapas dishes with a few friends, quick service, great ordering on the QR code for splitting bills!
Lovely meal, really interesting ideas in a small but perfectly formed menu - 3 pasta dishes, 3 mains. The antipasti were large enough to share and the house wine was good. Excellent dessert. Wine a tad slow to arrive but the service was very friendly.
The eating area was very pretty and suited a village pub. Very rustic and charming. The staff were polite, cheerful and attentative. Good was good pub grub, we had steaks as it was steak night, cooked as we requested and all the trimmings were
great. Lovely treacle pudding and custard to follow. All in all a wonderful experience. Will be going again.
Another meal out whilst holidaying in Seaford…. This time with my Dad and his wife. We went here for lunch. What a miserable day it was, raining and blustery winds but we walked in here and the welcome was very warm from the staff. It wasn’t very busy but that’s to be expected for a cafe on the seafront when the weather isn’t great…. but it meant we got served quicker. I had a tuna and cheese panini which came with a salad and crisps my Dad had ham, egg and chips, both were very nice and large portions. We then had a hot chocolate with the works… cream and marshmallows… well it would have been rude not too!
