We had a 23:00 sailing from Newhaven to Dieppe. It was a Friday and of course we were in search of fish and chips. This close to the sea - no problem. No chance. Newhaven is a very down-trodden place and it had nothing to offer - or so we thought. We asked a local chap who pointed us out of town and 5 mins later we arrived at Brewers Fayre. However it was 2030 and we were told that the kitchen was closed…..unless you were a guest at Premier Inn. Bizarre and frustrating but I wanted fish and chips so I booked a room at Premier Inn, returned to the restaurant and I was then able to order. Jacob was the host - great guy. Welcoming, chatty and the drinks were great (especially his own ‘signature’ mocktail which he made for my ancient mother. ). Jacob made the whole thing work and apologised for the admin. Once done he was flawless and the fish and chips met the mark. Kudos to the chef! But the idea of turning people and business away because they aren’t guests in the hotel is bizarre. I am sure the area manager would not endorse that. Anyway - the point is that looks can be deceiving and if you want great fish and chips in New Haven, the only place is Brewers Fayre.

Very under staffed, food was warm at its best and very slow at topping things up. Fruit juices were warm. Felt sorry for the two members of staff that were working as they were having to do everything and wasn’t coping to well. Would not revisit

Booked an overnight stay with the hotel next door. Decided to book with a breakfast - wish I hadn't. What can I say that will be a constructive criticism? - reserved table but only tables available were not cleared. - we ended up clearing a table in the bar area WITH the crap we cleared from our table still on the bar were we left it after we had eaten. - Table not even wiped down. Appear to have not been done for at least a few day. - Flies in the bar area (probably related to the point raised above) - Food temperature tepid. Considering it was under a hot lamp shows signs there is a delay between the kitchen staff and servers. - The only good thing I can comment on is the hotel room, the hotel staff, and the restaurant / bar staff. This venue really is the worst Brewers Fayre I have stepped foot in.

Food was nice and v reasonably priced. They were a little short staffed but Ella managing the bar and the orders at the till was lovely. Very riendly, helpful and polite.

Cold food! Cold plates! Finger marks on cutlery. Some items of food empty. Table placed directly under air conditioner (we moved). Staff very slow to clear tables and replenish food and crockery. Not a great experience!

Excellent meal, staff very friendly. No queues to order, quick service, food hot, good portions. Good value for money. Lovely end to our Anniversary. X

Both at dinner and this morning, it seems to be pretty short staffed but the staff that are here, running around after everyone are doing the best job possible… a particular stand-out was Sue this morning holding the fort superbly, with a smile on her face and willingly going out of her way to ensure all the guests had a pleasurable experience! Well done Sue!

Waited for 10 mins for eggs and beans when they came out they were cold as was the rest of the food. Also cold scampi and chips the night before.

Perfect for a quick stopover before a ferry. A better choice of ale would have been appreciated but meal was quick and tasty.

Went for father's day breakfast, food was good, busy and seemed short staffed, the duty manager Matthew was doing everything, taking money, keeping food topped up and fetching cups and plates etc. Well done to him.

Been coming here for years but over the past 12/18 months it has been going down hill and we have been thinking about stopping going, bad service, terrible food, items not available, staff not knowing what there doing, but this night everything had changed, a worm welcome, staff friendly and attentive, all staff looking busy, but best of all the food has greatly improved. Will definitely return to find out if it was a one off.

Been here many times. Always been average or barely edible. But today was a pleasant suprise. Excellent service and good hot, fresh food. Manager took the time to come and have a chat with us at the table. Will definitely return.

The food they have got looks like it's been there all night! Didn't have no scrambled egg no bacon and no beans dry breakfast would not go again

Disappointing. Keep taking more customers but cannot manage the people already in the restaurant. The only 2 members of staff actually around were nice but doesn't make up for the waiting time. 1 person behind the bar taking orders for food and drink. Not ideal if you only want a drink. 20 minutes just to order. Food touching 1 hour wait but it was mentioned upon entry that the wait was around 30 to 45 minutes. No clean cutlery for hot drinks, scared to ask for more as no one available. Just get more staff or limit the customers to ensure a better experience.

1 person behind the bar and one person running around serving food. Queued up for 20 minutes at the bar. Staff doing their best and friendly. Must be terrible management to employ so few over Easter holidays on a Thursday night. A local sandpits always the same.

The member of staff that greeted me was super helpful and friendly, even though there were issues with the new paperless meal deal offer with the Premier inn. There was a queue building up at the bar, and as I was on my own and didn't fancy the thought of finding a table, then ordering at the bar and potentially losing my table when I got back, she kindly offered to order my food & drink for me 😊

We had a family meal at The Drove on Easter Sunday the meals were excellent and the staff were very helpful nothing was too much trouble

The rudest people I have ever had the misfortune to deal with, walked in to restaurant, duty manager 1 fishy left! Spoke to the bar girl and said I would like fish, reply go find a table and come back. 20 seconds later in the queue, customer in front of me, he ordered the fish and she just looked at me and laughed! You didn’t get there in time did you was the reply! It’s a shame really as I have over 30 clients in the area and this place will NOT BE RECOMMEND. I suggest training courses required and remove the total incompetence of staff you have at this pub.staff laughing and joking, shouting when’s my break, I can hear them from the otherside of this pub, the music is blasting out of the kitchen when they open the doors. I would recommend a mystery shopping experience from senior management as this needs shutting down, unprofessional service and the worst encounter I have ever had!!

Food was good although lukewarm . Some food not available.service was slow but very friendly. Staff were helpful.First time we have eaten here.

This restaurant used to be a really great place to go and the meals whether on the meal deal or not used to be good value. On a recent visit we went for the 2 meals for £11.49 deal and had the smothered chicken, unlike before you only got a piece of chicken, bbq sauce drizzled over a rasher of bacon and cheese with chips. There was no salad nor did we get the garlic bread. We were not told upon ordering that they were out of garlic bread and we should have been offered a little bit of salad as a substitute on this occasion we feel as this was not value for money. As much as we used to always go to this Brewers Fayre I would certainly think twice in future.

I’m sure this would have been a great place if they had had any food. We waited over 15 minutes for more bacon, hash browns, tomatoes and were told there would be no more mushrooms as they had run out. By the time the bacon and hash browns had arrived, the eggs were cold and shrivelled. Overall not an enjoyable experience.

We had lunch here on Saturday 16th March staying at the Premier Inn on our way back to France. The staff were all very pleasant, attentive and helpful. Our meal was lovely, we had the sirloin steak and it was cooked exactly the way we like it. All in all a very pleasant meal. Sarah was so friendly and has a lovely relaxed way of conversing with customers, she’s a great asset.

Just would like to say my first time to a brewers Fayre - All of the staff from the manager welcoming at the door to our server Ashleigh were fantastic really pleasant! Some of the best service we’ve received just having basic manners goes a long way! Food was great and very prompt after our starters! Will visit again! But a special mention to the team as someone working over 14 years in hospitality they are great!! 👍

Went in Sunday morning mother's day around 10.55 started looking for a table for breakfast noticed a young lady waitress wiping everything down putting stuff away I said what do you get with the breakfast she said you have to wait at the entrance to be seated 🤔 she said anyway breakfast finishes at 11 o'clock 🙄 that's alright I said I'll wait for the mains she said they don't start until 12 o'clock I said an hour window from breakfast until mains yeah she said carrying on wiping down the tables looking at the reviews good job I didn't order anything useless.

Staff maintained their pleasant attitude despite being overwhelmed - they continued to be helpful - going the extra mile ! Food well presented and hot Will definitely breakfast here again

This place has come a long way in a few months. A little while back I would have avoided this place like the plague, but with new staff the food was great, service was really friendly and offered excellent value for money! Well done Brewers Fayre, we’ll 100% be back! If you, like us, had been putting off coming back to this pub, don’t, you won’t regret it, it’s so much better than before!

We went for an early dinner last week as they just reopened. Me, my husband and two babies really enjoyed everything. Food portions and quality was super. I had a burger and the nachos for starter. Then I ordered the s’mores cookie with ice cream. My toddler had so much fun drawing with crayons and had the macaroni and broccoli cheese meal. Drinks were all perfect too. Will definitely go back.

We had the most amazing meal here when they reopened. The staff were so willing to help. When there was a miscommunication about my son's salad, they made sure he got a fresh one exactly as he asked for it. As my little boy said - they get a 10/10 from me!

On the first day of the main easing of the lock down we came here for a meal to celebrate my wife's 81st Birthday, together with our youngest daughter. Since our last visit the Drove has been redecorated and the staff today were exceptionally good, kind, helpful and considerate and even providing a special Birthday pudding with Happy Birthday in syrup on the edge of the plate. The Drove has always been good value, and we tried some new items for starter Cauliflower bites and Tempura prawns....for mains Breaded Scampi, Beef and Doom Bar Pie and Smothered chicken. They were excellent and well presented. Service was just right giving an ideal pace to the meal. Our congratulations to the Manager and his staff for a really enjoyable welcome back.

This place is a bit of a hit and miss so can't always trust if you're going to have a nice meal, good deals during the week.

Booked with only a weeks notice ahead of Christmas Day, surprisingly reasonable but as with the restrictions in place, only half of the restaurant capacity was available, so we had a two hour slot which is more than adequate, 3 course meal was very well presented pate and toast was lovely, main course generous portion and delicious, the sweet by this time a struggle to get through, over all a successful Christmas Dinner just for two, tables were limited to seating 4 only so so families set well apart for Covid reasons, they could not put tables together, or I would have given the restaurant top marks but no Doombar on tap and limited decorations, but other than that staff excellent and as usual good food at a reasonable price at the Drove Newhaven, we left Happy and stuffed, so the traditional Xmas afternoon sleep was needed, so well done Brewers Fayre

We have visited Newhaven's Brewers Fayre many times and are always made to feel welcome. Jamie, Joss and all the staff have made our visits most enjoyable, with a friendly atmosphere and good food. Their diligence in making the restaurant a safe place to eat in these strange times is worthy of the highest praise.

We come here often as the food for the price is good. Its definitely one of the best chains we've been to. Today's trip was especially good and we had excellent customer service by Maz.

My wife and I visit once a week because of their seriousness in treating cleanliness and social distance policies. Their food and service are excellent. We’re having a meal from the Christmas menu next week.

Since the Covid-19 outbreak we have visited a few restaurants and noticed that the problem and the measures taken to address things has caused some changes to be made.As far as the Brewers Fayre at the Drove Newhaven is concerned this has highlighted how good the staff are and how seriously they are taking things.The service was very good and everything was being done as to the Government guide lines.Our server Mariana was first class and really made the meal enjoyable.Hopefully this level of care will continue as table service is so much nicer than queuing at the bar.

Came here for a meal with my family and throughly enjoyed the food. The front of house staff were lovely, looked after by Mariana, very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Went for dinner on Friday and came back on the Saturday has it was so good , staff are always friendly ( Zoe and Maz were lovely) all staff followed the cv19 rules , had the mix grill both times .Sherry trifle on Friday and meringue kisses on the Saturday ( try the kisses , I swear you won’t be disappointed). Didn’t feel rushed at all. We have just booked our Christmas Day dinner with them !! Can’t wait !!!!

Visited today as a family of 4. The service was excellent, food came out quickly and was delicious. It was my son's birthday so our server wrote 'happy birthday' on his dessert plate and apologised as not allowed to put a candle in it! Small touches make a big difference. Staff were all courteous and polite, one way system, sanitising stations in place. Will definitely be returning.

After several months of lockdown, the Drive opened in August with a slightly reduced menu list. All of the items are good quality and the friendly staff most efficient. We have been able to take advantage of all the special prices that have been offered independent of Government discounts. Highly recommended. The Drove had put in place very well thought out social distancing and it is such a shame that it will have to close on November 4th for at least 4 weeks. I consider the Drove as a very safe environment and premises should be judged by the efforts the Company has put in place for the safety of their staff and customers, not blanket lockdowns.

Very quiet on a few occasions but did pick up later busy Mon to Fri as special menu 2 meals for 8.99 was there Saturday eve no special menu but food was still good service fantastic

I had pre booked breakfast here while spending two nights at the Premier Inn next door with my wife and children. When we arrived we were shown to our table where our order was taken by Mariana. Unfortunately our food took an hour to arrive. For whatever reason they were clearly understaffed but that didn’t stop the other waitress I now know to be Georgia being very polite and professional throughout even though most of the customers were beginning to get a bit grumpy with the lateness off the food arriving. Unfortunately the other waitress called Jan was not quite on the same professional standard as Mariana and Georgia. I asked Jan for some more cutlery as we didn’t have enough on the table for my family to all eat, and given the way she looked and spoke to me she may have misheard me thinking I’d asked her for one her kidneys!Based on this I cancelled breakfast here for the following morning.Overall, food was average when it eventually arrived and one member of staffs awful attitude is undoing the good work of the other waitresses.

Popped in on the off chance of a table at lunch time .. woo hoo they did! So we booked ourselves in on the cv19 app. And was shown our table. Give the menu and asked if we wanted drinks while we decided. Drinks arrived just has we had decided. I was going to have the tandoori mixed grill and my wife wanted the bbq mixed grill. And OMG.. we were not disappointed. The steak on my plate was done to perfection. The sausage was fabulous and don’t get me started on the chips with the curry sauce ! My wife was equally impressed with hers. We would have stopped for pudding but we were both too full. I’m just sooo impressed with the food, the staff, how clean the restaurant was. We have just booked our Christmas dinner with them. And I can’t wait .And a little shout out to Louie who helped a mature couple download and sort out the cv19 app while we were there. He was soo patient with them ..Thank you guys x x

Well the covid rules are here and well policed. Booked through Premier Inn next door,arrived on time and all details given to the restaurant by hotel. Ordered drink and food,drink and starter arrived ,food nice and hot drink nice and cold. Staff are pleasant and friendly and I would have given 5 star apart from my second drink taking so long to arrive. The menu is small but what do you expect in these times. Overall,nearly 5.

I was extremely impressed with the safety measures and service today. Sanitiser at the door on arrival. Table service efficient. Disposable menus.i witnessed servers and barman regularly use hand sanitizer. Have confidence it was a safe visitor and feel comfortable tovisit again!

I visited with a friend today for breakfastWhich we didn't end up having Due to total over pricingSo ended up having the help yourself unlimited coffee.Of which I managed to have 2.As went back to go in the pub to use the toilets that I was well entitled to and found the doors to the pub were locked why? It was 11am time for the bar to open my friend and myself were sitting outside by the way.I don't understand why the doors were lockedIt's ridiculousCustomers had to turn away While the pub now looks very clean It's lacking in other aspects.We won't be returning

I have reviewed the Drove many times...excellent to terrible. We ate out on the "EAT OUT" Scheme twice in August, including Bank Holiday Monday 31st August. Both our August meals were taken on outside seating. We chose fish dishes on both occasions..beer battered Haddock and Scampi. The fish on our second visit was better than the first. The Costa coffee is still truly awful.....it always has been!. Service was prompt and friendly. A check was made to ensure our meal was OK. An efficient one-way system was in operation, togther with hand sanitisation. The Drove provide good value/quality meals.......although the quality of the food and service do vary.

Had a fantastic breakfast jack was brilliant and maz and Jamie and Nestor was fantastic too food was really good will definitely come to the drove agen thank u all for all the grate work keep it up

Went to Brewers Fayre Newhaven on August 25th to make the most of the offer. Had a really excellent meal from a shortened but compehensive menu. It was very busy, but did not have to wait long and when the meal arrived it was hot, good to look at and extremely tasty.The staff were very helpful, charming and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble.Would also like to add that great care had been taken with all aspects of social distancing and following all the government guidelines. Very impressive indeed.

We have been out for lunch a few times since restaurants have opened and no where has felt as covid safe as the drove. They had staggered sittings, tables spaced out perfectly and all other measures they put in place made us feel not only safe but also very welcome. From the moment we arrived the staff were so lovely. The manager who sat us at our table kindly added an extra seat and the waitress we had was so friendly and helpful. The food was great too- even my fussy children ate everything. We will definitely be coming back and also be recommending to others. Thank you for a lovely family lunch.

We have been going to The Drove for breakfast for years now, we love it. This was the first time we we were going back since lockdown. What a disappointment! They obviously had to adjust but we had to wait a very long time for our cooked breakfast, customers who arrived after us were served before us (I suspect people who are staying at the hotel get priority). Waiting staff were lovely and helpful but we found the manager aloof and quite abrupt. Sadly, we will not go back until things are back to normal.

Excellent measures put in place to reduce risks. Very clear and easy to follow instructions. Everything was well organised and efficient whilst maintaining friendliness. The menu was reduced, but where items had sold out, there were suitable replacements. All in all a very pleasant and reassuring experience. We were very impressed.

We have not eaten here for a few years and the place has had a redecoration as well as changes as part of COVID restrictions. Menus are disposable and recyclable and lots of clear signage. Staff were attentive and took social distancing seriously.We had the smoothered chicken as well as the ribs which was fine. Chicken was a bit dry. Dessert was lovely and alternatives were offered where choices were not available. Lots of parking here as well.

Our waitress Mariana was very welcoming and friendly. The food was amazing and we left full and happy

First visit since the lockdown restrictions were lifted.The restaurant was very well laid out and clear direction was given when we arrived on the seating arrangements and operation of the restaurant during these current times. Food and service was great and we were very well looked after by Simon who went above and beyond for us, we would definitely visit again.

The day we visited there were maybe two other tables so very quiet and although we were a party of 8 the delay on food was very long . The staff were helpful and friendly and the food was hot and tasty but to wait an hour for a meal and another hour for dessert was too long .

Well organised and not too busy (Sat early eve, booking for 4). Lovely attentive staff. Smaller menu, but very good. Thankfully had aircon on the hottest day of the year too. Gave us confidence, will be back.

This is the first time I have visited the drove since the lockdown. Wow what a difference fantastic facelift bright colourful bit dubious about going out with virus?..but need not have worried the staff were wonderful hepful nothing was to much trouble social distancing was spot on .breakfast was served of a tray hard to get used to but staff made it easy well done nesta and your fab crew 101% see you next time and thank you xx

Having used the Drove, Brewers Fayre in Newhaven before lock down I was keen to go back as soon as they re-opened and discovered that despite the new regulations the place is still a friendly, comfortable and welcoming restaurant. The staff are always friendly and accommodating and, couple that with tasty food that is great value, you have the ideal destination for either a quiet drink or a hearty meal that won't break the bank highly recommended

Nice to get back to our normal Friday lunchtime meeting with friends in our favourite restaurant. Quality of the food and service from all the staff was excellent. Great to be back.
