Another meal out whilst holidaying in Seaford…. This time with my Dad and his wife. We went here for lunch. What a miserable day it was, raining and blustery winds but we walked in here and the welcome was very warm from the staff. It wasn’t very busy but that’s to be expected for a cafe on the seafront when the weather isn’t great…. but it meant we got served quicker. I had a tuna and cheese panini which came with a salad and crisps my Dad had ham, egg and chips, both were very nice and large portions. We then had a hot chocolate with the works… cream and marshmallows… well it would have been rude not too!

After a walk along the promenade we stopped off for a light bite and drinks. It was fairly busy inside but appeared to be organised chaos as they was calling out peoples food orders and them coming back in saying that no one had ordered that. We ordered our food no problems at all but when they brought it out that’s when there was issues. Half the order came out and the waitress said is that everything and I said no. She then argued with me that it was before walking off half way through. Rude. Then when they came out with the rest of our order no apology and said that the person who took our order had written the wrong number for part of the order. No apology or any reasoning.

Visited for coffee. Service was very friendly and efficient. We decided to have some cake too as everything looked so nice … particularly a new uncut apple strudel cake. We took a seat and the waitress quickly brought us two very nice coffees and two pieces of apple strudel cake - which tasted as good as it looked. We finished up whilst admiring the view. Highly recommend this pleasant and professional operation!

Lunch yesterday was so underwhelming it was a shame. Everything on the menu has chips or one form or another and the deep fat fryer was obviously well in use, to avoid this we had soup of the day which was very bland I am sure it was a tin with 2 small pieces of toast. Worse was it was served on paper plate and a paper bowl, even coffee was in a paper cup, I know its covid bit really, the wastage...we go to other restaurants currently and they do use china so I can’t see the reasoning behind this. Its such as shame as this place has historically always been awful and the new owners seemed to be trying to build it up offering better homemade food but they have slipped back into the old ways...we shall not be returning.

The Galley is well worth visiting. The food is very good, there is a good selection, the specials are well worth investigating. The cafe has made all of the necessary arrangements for COVID, it felt very safe, much better than many of the other establishments in Seaford. We will be going back soon.

Our family visited today (myself, mum and daughters plus dog) it was our first visit and we were so so SO impressed. We intially stopped for some lunch, all food was absolutely delicious (sausage and bacon sandwiches, squid, chips etc) the service and staff were very welcoming, chatty and friendly and best of all the view was beautiful.Dogs are allowed outside and inside on the right hand side on the hard floor which is always a big plus for us.Coffee was really really tasty. Then off we went for our walk up Tide Mills and back again and loved this place so much that we stopped again, this time for the best lemon cake I have ever had alongside more coffee, coffee cake, millionaires slice and brownie slice. All tasted home made and everything was very reasonably priced.I will be telling all family and friends to visit and will be back myself very soon.

Stopped off for dinner when cycling back from tidemills. Salt and pepper squid was delicious - although I wasn't expecting it to be battered. Fish and chips was also delicious - nice thin batter and thin cut chips with skin on. Sets it apart from fish and chips in town and the lighter version eats better sitting in the sun on a picnic table on the beach!Very good service.

What a great place, never mind how good the food and drink are (and they are very good) the new management have given the place a whole new lease of life. The greeting is warm and welcoming to everybody, the tables are kept cleared and CLEAN (previous management should take note)and the floor, even on a very wet day was kept clean and safe. This was always one of my favourite places to eat in seaford but thanks to some awful decisions by the board the franchise had been given to some clueless people who should never be allowed to run such a lovely place. I have not been in there for a year BUT now what a difference, a great menu with plenty of choices, loads of different teas and coffee and cakes which are fresh and delicious. Well done to the new management and I hope you have many successful years here.

Went here as heard it was under new management. It had a fresh painted smell on arrival and looked great compared to my last visit a few years ago. It got quite busy whilst we were there and a table of ‘members’ were moaning that it was! Surely it’s great to have a busy place than one table of members only buying coffee??? Surely the sailing club benefits from this venture with charging rent etc? Anyhow quite expensive coffee for a small cup, not filled to the top and not really hot. Food tasty but small portions for cost. I had an English muffin with a smear of avocado, three small halloumi strips and a poached egg for £6.95, a single shot latte and double shot mocha was £6.30. We enjoyed it but won’t return as better value in town. Nice location on a lovely day but freezing in there during bad weather, especially when they keep opening the large sliding doors on the seafront and then not closing them correctly, I was up and down like a yoyo☹️ Staff friendly but a lot of them for a cold wet windy day.

Just went to the sailing club for breakfast 2nd time in a week. What a mistake apparently having a large dog, although well behaved is not acceptable. The cafe is allegedly 'dog friendly' but considering there is at best a very small bowl of water available sometimes along with some free treats on the bar I'm not sure how that counts. Maybe the owner was trying to take our minds off the badly cooked food? The ingredients are always good but it depends on who cooks them. If you run a cafe the very least acceptable would be a properly cooked fried egg? Not the over cooked dried up version served. Bacon done to such a crisp it could have chipped the plate and the sausages had clearly been previously cooked sometime ago then reheated. If you couple that with the rude 'gentleman' who brought the breakfast on Saturday and continued to make snippy comments throughout our stay in the cafe on Saturday I keep asking myself why I went back today? We waited a very long time for our breakfast on Saturday, apparently they were busy? Yes there were a lot of people in the cafe but most had already had their food, so the wait was unacceptable. When I asked if our food was coming thinking the order may have been lost , I was snapped at and told they were very busy. I would have said more today but since we were in there for a birthday breakfast I didn't want to ruin it further. My advice stay clear unless you have a hair free tiny dog. There are plenty of proper dog friendly places who serve really good quality well cooked food in Seaford.

The galley cafe has an excellent location, right beside the sea, but the cafe is very mediocre/poor. The coffee is just about drinkable, but the food never looks very tempting. We have been regular visitors for a few years, and we have seen various changes of staff, but the present team are not very friendly, and have few hospitality skills. In the past the atmosphere was much more welcoming, and you were tempted by the aroma if fresh cooking. It could be a fantastic cafe, but needs someone with flair to make a success of the venue.

On arriving at a place like this, although awestruck by the beauty, one can see by the furniture and general scruffiness that expectations about the food should not be high, but the location is one of the finest along the coast, that in itself is actually faint praise as so much of the south coast is beyond awful due to careless development. However here the food is particularly poor and one wonders how anyone involved cannot be inspired by the surroundings and at least feel motivated to respond to nature, the enormous sweep of Seaford bay punctuated by the Chalk Colossus that is Seaford head, the huge expanse of the English Channel out of which the magnificent spectacle of the Dieppe Ferry coasts into Newhaven depositing bemused Continentals into a literal mountain of scrapped cars and Kentucky Fried Chicken, They press on quickly to greener pastures, Pity they have no reason to visit The Galley, come on Newhaven and Seaford Sailing Club, the catering revolution has started, get with it!

In defence of the new owners and others before, I would think that their 'hands are tied' when wishing to develop this idyllic setting. Primarily it is a sailing club - water sports with refreshments available. When not being used for club functions, what better way to receive revenue. Sadly, my latest visit was no better than before. Décor and furnishings tired. New layout for kitchen and bar cobbled together. The menu was A4 laminated sheets strung together with string. Pages illustrated with clip art and unnecessary descriptions. Our order was very simple but still managed to get it wrong. We had to collect our own drinks from the cabinet. Tables were strewn with dirty crockery and food debris on the floor. A real shame.

This cafe is in a great position on the walkway from Seaford and Tidemills and provides a fantastic facility for a seaside lunch, coffee or snack. I understand it is owned by the Sailing Club so visitors must check that they can eat or drink there before they decide to come for lunch - for example, the week I wanted to go with my family it was closed for the Sailing Club, which is why I have given it a lower score. It is possible to sit outside on the beach and I wonder if the Sailing Club would consider this so that local people can walk along for a drink during the times it is closed to the public?

Not sure why early reviews are so harsh, as I found a good welcome, reasonable service and prices you might expect. My egg and bacon sandwich was delicious, washed down by good coffee, just the job after a walk along the beach with my dog, and set me up for my return trip. I understand that it is an active Sailing Club so facilities are not to 5 star standards, and closed to the public on some days, but I might be tempted to become a Social Member, as where else in Sussex can you sit by the sea in the evening with a glass of wine in your hand and watch the sun go down! After having a chat with one of the members you can sign up for sailing classes as well.

I am not one to usually leave a review after visiting somewhere, but I felt compelled to in this instance having felt such a disparity between recent reviews of The Galley and my first experience of it. Having stumbled upon it with my family on a walk along the seafront we found a charming cafe with a very warm welcome from the staff. Being London based it was so refreshing to sit and enjoy the view of the sea on a glorious (and rare) sunny day. The cafe has a very relaxed atmosphere and it is clear that much of the clientele are regulars with a good rapport with the staff.I found the menu to be very well put together, and everyone found something to their liking. I can particularly recommend the coronation chicken sandwich. The mix is unlike any I have tasted elsewhere, but it is certainly worth returning for alone! Food arrived promptly and all plates were finished despite some very generous portions. All in all it was a lovely pit stop on our weekend break, and a place I would certainly recommend.

This was our second visit this year after the cafe had changed hands the first one was a serious disappointment after the lovely food and drinks from the previous owners. This time we were eventually served by an unfriendly older lady - I think she was the boss? I ordered a hot chocolate, I think I saw her put a spoonful of chocolate powder in the drink but when I came to drink it this was hard to tell as it just tasted of hot milk. I was offered cream marshmallows and so on all at an extra cost of cause. Had I taken all the options the cost of this would have been close to £4 for a very small chipped cup of warm chocolate. They have all the equipment to make decent drinks but this lady doesn't know how to use it. My friend had a tea - small cup again with hot water and a tea bags you have to do the rest yourself which for £1.80 seems a little extreme. I don't mind sorting this out we all like our team differently but this is not a burger bar and the prices are closer to mid Brighton hotels and high end restaurants. The chairs outside, as stated before are not good flimsy at the best and just off the local tip at worse. One wooden chair was actually falling apart yet still placed at a table. There are a fair few elderly or infirm customers who use this place who may not notice these chairs are not fit for purpose. For goodness sake please somebody sort this place out! Whoever is in charge of seaford sailing club you must step in and get some quality fare with decent prices back before its all too late!

What a disappointment our recent experiences at The Galley Cafe have been. Although the cafe was not busy, we waited a long time for 2 mic rowaved macaroni cheeses, one of which had to be sent back because it was cold in the middle. There was no garnish & was rubbery in texture. The cheese on toast was accompanied by a minute portion of sad looking salad. On a previous occasion the cups had been less than clean but we decided to give it another go, not something we shall be repeating. There are so many cafes & restaurants in Seaford offering a high standard of service & good quality homemade food that I can't envisage this establishment surviving for long in such a competetive market.

Where to start! A lovely location but as soon as you walk in that is forgotten by the dull atmosphere, I had to go up to the bar to order a coffee which took around 5 minutes to even be processed by the inexperienced lady at the till who I also noticed speaking rudely to the younger staff and later sitting at a table on her phone again bossing the younger staff around as they ran around doing all the work at this point I realised she was the manager who is obviously getting paid to do a job she can not do, after this I was ready to leave but I thought I would give it a chance by ordering a tuna sandwich which tasted at if it had been waiting in the fridge for a week to be eaten never mind the sight of another customers order been dropped on the floor and picked up and still served by staff, my coffee came slumped on the table almost spilling and a greasy spoon by its side, the mug had stains and the table was sticky and covered in crumbs. I am absolutely appalled by this over rated and over priced so called cafe, I will definitely not be returning and would not recommend it to anyone. Would not be surprised if this place had rats looking at the state of the filthy toilets which also had stains. How this place is still running I do not know, absolutely disgusting.

I agree with a lot of the previous reviews. We have visited many times but the place hasn't been the same since Jane and Clive left.Great location but if you want value for money and don't want to wait half an hour for small portions of food then sit outside and enjoy a coffee and the view.

Friendly enough staff with average food at average prices. Crockery and cutlery needs to be cleaner though. So much potential on offer with amazing views towards Newhaven Harbour and across the Channel.

I have been a customer at the cafe since it first opened and loved visiting in all weathers on a regular basis. Always a warm welcome, wonderful fresh homemade cakes and last year, comfortable chairs outside. So after the cafe was taken over by the new management I paid my usual visit and was so disappointed with the cleanliness, selection of food and attitude of the staff i did not return. Today I decided to give it another try, hoping it had improved. If anything it has got worse. Dirty and chipped crockery, cakes that looked sad, the uncomfortable outside furniture appeared as though it had come straight off the tip (we are not talking up cycling here) and the staff seemed disinterested. It was such a beautiful day I thought the place would be heaving, but it wasn't, obviously people have reached the same conclusion as me, it's not worth it.. There won't be a third visit!

This café lacks the competition needed to bring prices in line with the type of venue. It seems to rely on being the only seafront location to eat and drink which is amazing for surely an entrepreneur could see an opportunity for another in Seaford and also because it serves the clubhouse and Buckle Holiday Camp. Charges for a snack were higher than the equivalent than top hotels on Brighton seafront.

The new management aren't making the most of such a great cafe. You'll get lots of regulars if you give a better welcome and smile occasionally. I agree with other reviews that the prices have gone up and it will cost you £8 for a coffee and sandwich. The cups and teapots we were given were tatty ,chipped and not overly clean. When the food comes out you get no cutlery and have to get it yourself, tables and empties aren't cleared away. The food was nice but let down by the lack of service.

First time the other day with new management. Tomato soup (not homemade) took 25 mins to arrive although place wasn't busy, accompanied by a single slice of slightly stale sliced bread with a big dollop of industrial margarine on the side. Just 5p short of £5 - don't think so.

The only reason this places scores two is because of the welcome we get on each visit. We were regular visitors to the Galley for over 3 years seeing two different styles of management both very good always value for money in a lovely location and free parking available very close to the galley. Unfortunately the new management seem to be under the opinion they can charge what they like for very mediocre fare. Nearly £2 for a small mug of tea which is served to you at the bar and you have to sort out your own milk and sugar very reminiscent of a roadside stall. No more instant coffee instead overpriced small mugs of what tests like burnt coffee. No sign of the style of the previous management or the quality of refreshment, poor quality 'homemade' cakes which are fine when fresh but sadly this seems to be only once a week. Finally there are prices on the cakes but the quality is very low and the cake is dry and often crusty. My advice walk further along the seafront to the little kiosk.

What a charming little place the Galley Coffee House & Cafe is, right on the beach and just perfect for a meet up with likeminded friends, even their dogs are welcome. The weather was Force Nine today but the atmosphere inside was warm and friendly, last week we were sitting outside on the decking in the blazing sun! The new owners are trying hard to get things up to scratch and there seem to have been some teething problems but today it was just right. An enormous mouthwatering BLT for my husband and lovely coffee to accompany it. The cakes were just as delicious and the chocolate brownie was one of the best I have ever tasted. It's a quirky little place so don't look for starched tablecloths but it has a delightful seaside feel about it, quite rare in these days of the soul less Costa Coffee shops. Give it a try and you will be glad you did.

Two of us have been regulars here for several years. Changed hands about 6 weeks ago. We had a breakfast then and it was cold. Had another breakfast today and bill not cheap and food just average. Really need to try harder overall. Young lady serving was charming though.

This was a cafe we used to visit frequently before it recently changed hands. However, a recent visit was extremely disappointing as the standards have gone down. Part of our order was forgotten, the cutlery had to be returned as it was very dirty, the cake was expensive and was very dry. It needs to improve to reach the standards of the former owners.

We used to go to The Galley and enjoy the experience and it was always busy both inside and (weather permitting) out - but not anymore. Sadly, the unique location is possibly the only thing that keeps it going. We used to look forward to a generous cafetiere of coffee for two, coupled with expertly prepared and presented hot snacks and these used to be brought to the numbered table. Now you get mugs of coffee and a tray! We gave up on the snacks a few visits ago as the quality just wasn’t there any more, even though the prices were as high. On the last couple of occasions we went, the staff members seemed to be too preoccupied with conversations with friends to notice customers and the new layout is confusing as you need to ask about the (un-named) cakes and then go to another part to order your drinks. The cakes look and taste excellent but unless they get their act together I am afraid that it won’t last much longer. Such a shame!!

This cafe used to be lovely but I understand its under new management and on our visit a few days ago it had really gone downhill. The whole place felt grubby and dispiriting and the coffee was awful. We used to visit a lot when out and about on our bikes but think we may give it a miss in future. Shame.

We didn't know it had changed hands and gave it a go anyway. The previous owners did an absolutely superb job of running it. The girl who greeted us was very pleasant but then proceeded to sit there with a customer for the whole time we were there. In the past the owner and staff would have been buzzing around looking after people, dare I say cooking or even baking as it was lunch time. There was a young guy in the kitchen who managed to produce the special of the day, sausage and mash with bisto gravy which was okay but I can do that myself at home with my eyes shut. The toilets were a mess, the cutlery was stained, crumbs on my seat, the place looked tired. I am really upset as this was a lovely place on the seafront, the only place on Seaford seafront where you could sit and stare out to sea and still have beautifully cooked interesting food. What a shame, another once fabulous restaurant bites the dust.

We've just enjoyed a splendid Sunday morning family breakfast at the Galley with helpful, friendly staff. The cooked English breakfast was spot on and the tea and coffee was plentiful and served with a smile. Brilliant sea views and a wonderful sunny decking area for when the weather warms up a little. Also totally dog friendly- always appreciated!

I visited this cafe earlier today and the staff could'nt have been more helpful. We visited after a dog walk along the beach with my friend and her grandchild. We both ordered coffee and walnut cake which was amazing and very fresh. the service was friendly and quick, my friends grandchild wanted a small piece of chocolate cake which they offered to us free ! They helped us with the pushchair and gave my dog a dog biscuit. We could'nt ask for anymore. The cafe was busy and all the other customers needs where catered for in a efficient and friendly manner. Tables where cleared quickly. Give this place a try !

We are so upset, we're heartbroken, we are sadder than the saddest of things. We loved the Galley we really did. We would turn out on the foulest of days to visit the Galley. It was a wonderful place. Refreshing, clean, a fantastic menu that truly delivered. And the homemade cakes we mustn't forget those. It had a warm friendly atmosphere and was run with an attention to detail that simply made the place exquisite. The Galley has now changed hands and alas that's all gone! The place has had a finesse enema. We've never seen a new business look so jaded and tired from the word go. It's gone down hill quicker than a fat boy on roller skates. The staff aren't very thrilling and I suspect are on the NVQ programme which smacks at staffing on the cheap where the customer pays full prices for trainee quality. Let's be fair, with the Galley's location a monkey in an apron would make a good living, it's the best spot in town.Enough of my flippancy and what are the hard facts? Well It's grubby ! The cup I was given was soiled. The drinks order was wrong. My hand stuck to the table and the floor was filthy. The floor and shelves behind the counter were even worse, an absolute disgrace. The service was unbelievably slow and the food that was coming out of the kitchen hardly had one drooling. To compound it all our order went astray, they promised to chase it then weren't sure what we had ordered etc etc but by that time we were so glum we had lost our appetites and walked out. In fairness they did offer a full refund which we declined as no refund could possibly compensate our disappointment.

Same great views, and an even warmer welcome for dogs and more particularly their owners. Breakfast was good, would have preferred it on a hot rather than cold plate but sure that can be remedied. The new management have definitely improved the place with small touches, but in particular the very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and still an ideal spot to watch the sea with uninterrupted views on a sunny day.

I just don't know where to start. This was so unbelievably bad it's almost indescribable! I've travelled the world, eaten in almost every kind of establishment and this has without doubt got to be one of the very worst examples of a cafe ever!On entering the place was empty. OK it was 10am on a Monday but you do advertise being open for breakfast, so in I went. Despite being the only person there I had to place my order at the bar where they took it, once for their automated machine, and then strangely again written on an order pad. Why I couldn't sit down and have my order taken I just don't know.I ordered a large Expresso for some reason now know as an Americano and Eggs with Salmon on Toast. Two quite simple Item to prepare. The coffee arrived very quickly. It tasted like a dull Nescafé and not an Expresso at all. I've had better coffees from those automatic machines in the 70s (There may still be one at Lewes Station) The teaspoon had seen better days!I then had to wait in an empty cafe for 20 minutes to get my next course. Again I reached for the cutlery and found both knife and fork had remnants of previous usage. The dish I was presented with was wrong on so many levels which is remarkable as it only consisted of four ingredients, Eggs, Toast, Butter and Smoked Salmon. The pre 'buttered' toast was almost untoasted, the butter might have thought it was butter, it might even have had a label reading 'you won't think this is not butter' but butter it was not. The eggs were passable. The salmon? Well! I've not see smoked salmon like that in 30 years. I have seen salmon like that that's passed its best! I have added photos as I can't find the words to describe this unholy mess. The kitchen was a disgrace. I can't believe they cooked my breakfast in there! A member of staff had there 'hoodie/coat' hanging over food racks next to the 'specials' blackboard.I don't know who the new owners are of The Beach Cafe but I am absolutely sure they have no concept of catering!Go at your own risk and take Gaviscon with you, you are going to need it.Hope you enjoy the photos!

New cafe now open every day with lovely staff, creamy steaming latte coffee and coffee and walnut cake and bread pudding to really cheer a winter walk along the promenade and beach. We were greeted with a smile and genuine warmth, placed our choice at the bar and sat on comfortable cushioned chairs in a seaside themed clubhouse with sailing memorabilia. We were served with easy chatter and a smile, even though the place was busy. A varied menu was available although we only needed coffee and cake!It was a charming gently experience that I really appreciated on a sunny but bitter cold windy day.

We used to visit this cafe a lot, sometimes on bike rides, under the old management. Today visited under the new and sad to see how it has gone downhill. The decor looked dispiriting and the coffee was awful. Sandwich with stale bread and prices seemed to have gone up. If you cant get the small things like the coffee right, chances are the rest will be mediocre and sadly this proved to be the case. Unlikely to visit again.

This was a lovely efficient, reasonable cafe but changed management at the end of January . The prices have gone up and the service down. £9.75 for 2 black coffees and 2 pieces of cake!.When placing my order I had to repeat it 3 times before the distracted staff member managed to get it correct. Instead of having a table number as before you now have to give a name which is then bellowed across the cafe when your order is ready. The cake arrived one with a fork one without and we were asked if there was anything else - yes the coffees! Coffee finally appeared in mugs with tea spoons dumped on the table - they were of dubious cleanliness BEFORE being put down on the outside wooden table.. Whilst there we heard several complaints from other customers about incorrect orders and cold food. In all I will not be visiting again under this regime unless they rethink their prices and standards.

I have had breakfast at the Galley before and was very impressed. However, under the new management the quality and quantity of the food has gone down while the prices seem to have gone up. The only thing the Galley has now to recommend it over the many other cafes in Seaford is its magnificent location. I do hope that this can be put right and it's just a case of the new people finding their feet.

Another enjoyable night. Food and staff were great again. Matt is a superb host and engages with his customers so well. Sadly, not the first time some of the menu isn't available due to low stock. Come on owners, start getting things right and supply these hard working managers with the stock they need.to serve what is on your menus, so they don't have to constantly apologise to customers. They are doing their best and a great job, they need better support. Will certainly be back again..

What a perfect place to meet someone for a date! We went for a walk in the beautiful countryside, along the river Ouse, then finished off at the Anchor Inn. The lunch was delicious and the service was excellent. Will definitely return.
