I write a review as I wait for my bill, which I requested 10 minutes ago… The food quality seems inconsistent here. The Lamb rump was very good, the heritage tomatoes were too cold and lacked any depth of flavour the same as the deep fried new potatoes which seemed to have been cooked a while ago. The beetroot and yoghurt dish was very good. The flat sourdough bread was extremely charred and when we questioned it the owner agreed and replaced it immediately. The staff seem committed and energetic but there is some work to be done to achieve consistent quality. There was a terrible smell of burnt meat when we arrived and the owner asked if we minded him leaving the main door open. No one checked in with us re our food otherwise I would have gladly fed back my comments in person - they seemed rather to busy even to fetch the bill. Sadly, disappointed.

Visited today for brunch. Food was delicious. So many delicious looking things to try it was hard to choose. Courtyard at the back looked quaint and appealing too. Service was very efficient, friendly and welcoming. Will return. Highly recommended.

Just wasted £8.50 here on a toasted sandwich and soup, both of which arrived a full 15 minutes after my partner's meal (which was horrible). The sandwich was dire and I couldn't eat the soup as it was so hot and came so late that I'd have missed the film I'd booked to see. The staff were apologetic but did not offer a refund or food that I could actually eat. It seems like chaotic system is in place there. Another addition to Lewes very underwhelming food scene.

Really delicious selection of fresh sandwiches including baguettes, toasties and filled focaccias priced around £4. The focaccia in the photo is the Brie and bacon focaccia which was £3.95. Staff will also heat it up for you which made it taste even better. Pastries cost around £2 each which is reasonably priced for a high street bakery and the cinnamon roll was very sweet and flavourful at prices at £1.90. There is not a large seating area and it can get busy but all in all a lovely place to have a light lunch.

A must visit shop if you are in Lewes. As on a ex-military reunion and I live in Northumberland, this shop is amazing with quirky, never seen before, ethical sourced gifts. I managed to get presents for all the family in the one shop. Hope one day to revisit Lewes. A fantastic town and a great shop.

The food here is always very tasty but the service was a let down today. I appreciate it’s Good Friday and probably very busy before we came in. The tables had not been cleared, my food came first, the hot drinks 15 minutes later and we then had to remind them that we were waiting for more food…. Cutlery boxes were empty, no glasses by the water tap and the toilets were dirty with a lot of “old” dirt around the back of the toilet seat. Not impressed today sadly.

We had our wedding reception upstairs at the John Harvey. Anton made the whole process very easy to organise. We decorated their function room which looked great. They provided a 3 course meal and everyone loved the food. The staff at the John Harvey were very professional and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Only my second ever visit. A first for Casta and Madge. A CAMRA Good Beer Guide pub and a Cask Marque. A Harvey's pub with 3 of their beers. Had a super Sussex Best. The pub wraps round the central bar, access from the back where there is a beer patio. There is a separate dining room and thus pub serves foid. One TV and a dart board. Accesdible toilet.
