A great place to have breakfast , opens at 7.30 am so a good place to start the day if you’re doing the South Downs Way . Nice staff , proper coffee , good food . Just what you need to kickstart the day in Lewes Highly recommended, better than the other options

This place used to be one of my favourites but it seems like the passion to provide a good medium to high value experience has gone. Especially since pre COVID times. Not only have prices gone up making it not a valued experience but the quantity of the food on the plate for the same item found pre COVID has become less. I'd like to recommend this place to anyone but I'm afraid I cannot do that these days.

We ordered 2 lattes and a herbal tea,all of them came in paper cups which we were not happy about, asked about proper cups, said they had run out, beut everyone aftrr us had the drinks in proper cups. The herbal tea should come in a teapot with hot water, paper cup again, totally undrinkable do strong it was vile, had to ask for teaspoons. Totally poor service.😱

Absolutely love this establishment. Friendly and helpful staff, cannot forget to mention Owen their roaster, he is a wonderful fellow. Taught me all about the roasting process, bean origins and explained all their blends in detail. Hopefully I’ll get to bump into this guy again soon! I also noticed their management was really on the ball, it’s nice to see someone in a high position doing every type of job there. He was on the coffee machine one moment, cleaning the next then back in the kitchen. I asked Owen his name, I believe it was Will. A great couple of guys.

My only but quite major problem was with general hygiene. The tables were dirty and not cleaned between customers, the water glasses needed washing and wiping out before you could use them, the chef who we watched thru the ‘open kitchen’ window where we were sitting, dropped equipment on the floor and just picked it up to reuse, cutlery wasn’t washed properly, and both teapots arrived covered in kitchen grease which seemed very bizarre. I honestly don’t think they would pass a random inspection. It will definitely mean I’d think twice about returning. Food was fine - but my mushrooms sat on the counter under the hot lamp for about 15 mins before coming out (I could see them from our window) and consequently were not hot.

Been here twice. Last time good was good. Today, I ordered a croissant and toffee cake with two teas. I ordered at the counter and the servers didn’t indicate where cutlery or napkins were. When I enquired, I was answered a little abruptly; they were talking to a friend at the time. We carried cakes outside and waited more than ten minutes for two pots of tea. Café was by no means busy at all. I went in and asked if the waiting tray with two teas was mine. Tea served in a chipped cup.

The food here is always very tasty but the service was a let down today. I appreciate it’s Good Friday and probably very busy before we came in. The tables had not been cleared, my food came first, the hot drinks 15 minutes later and we then had to remind them that we were waiting for more food…. Cutlery boxes were empty, no glasses by the water tap and the toilets were dirty with a lot of “old” dirt around the back of the toilet seat. Not impressed today sadly.

We went in for a takeaway coffee in good spirits. The three staff at the counter didn’t acknowledge us for a good three minutes until we commented on the lack of service. No apology given. Dismissive service to take our order and then we were aggressively asked to move aside and wait for our drinks to make way for the other customers: one woman, whom the staff member took a lot of time chatting with causally seemingly not concerned at that point about other customers building up behind her. We then waited ten minutes to get an espresso and a peppermint tea. Not sure why the hostile service in what looks like a very beautiful cafe? But it doesn’t create a good vibe for the business. We will take our business elsewhere next time.

This looked a safe bet. It's a modern coffee shop with a decent menu and lots of cakes. You order at the counter and are given a number to display. The waiting staff then wander round with your individual items looking for your number. My wife had to ask where her coffee was. They were drinking it as they hadn't found our number. I ordered croque Monsieur as I had to get back to work quickly. It took half an hour. If you're in a rush order a sausage roll and cake. The food was fine but expensive. May as well go to Bill's.

Overpriced and mediocre food, with slow service. I ordered the avocado and poached eggs on toast, and asked if I could substitute the eggs for something else (there was no other veggie option that didn't have eggs). I was told I would have to pay extra for the substitution, which makes no sense. I ended up paying the full price (almost £12) for avocado and feta on toast, despite having no eggs and no substitutions. To make matters worse, the 'meal' took almost 20 minutes to arrive. I had thought maybe they might have given me a little more avocado at the very least, but what I received was a burnt piece of toast with a thin scraping of avocado, and a little heap of feta. My friend ordered the poached eggs on pita, and both the yolks were solid all the way through. Extremely inflated prices for barely edible food that takes far too long to arrive. I won't be eating here again.

We recently hosted our company's Christmas party at Trading Post Coffee Roasters, and I cannot speak highly enough about the experience. From the very start, the staff were incredibly helpful, assisting with event planning and ensuring everything went smoothly. On the night of the event, the service was exceptional — the staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure everyone was well taken care of. The buffet-style food was a standout. There was an amazing selection of delicious options that catered to a variety of tastes, and everything was fresh and flavorful. The drink options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, were varied and well-chosen, making sure that everyone had something they could enjoy. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and it truly made for an unforgettable event. As per previous review- tricky finding clean table as tables were not being cleared and had to sit at dirty table for some time - observed other empty, uncleared tables too, cutlery and knapkins not replenished and had to ask for them. No toilet roll in either ladies toilet and when I went to wash hands, both dispensers were empty. YUK. When I drew this to the attention of female staff member, she was unapologetic and dismissive. Coffee took an AGE to arrive and myself and another diner both went to chase this up. It wasn’t busy- 2:30pm on Sunday- empty tables at the front and only half full in the rear . Managers Morning Briefing should cover all of these very basic points.not the first time we’ve had really slow service here, despite giving it a second and third chance, still no improvement and wouldn’t recommend any more. Simple dishes of dishes on toast (rarebit) or beans on toast is very pricey for what it is. The food is acceptable but not high quality so doesn’t justify the cost, so I’ll assume the same line would be used that it’s because of the fixed and operating costs. What a wonderful town Lewes is! It has long been one of my three favourite in the whole of Sussex along with Rye and Chichester. It is full of great bakeries, book shops, pubs and coffee shops, Trading Post among them. I'm told it is fairly new and I have to say I've not noticed it before even though I've been to Lewes dozens of times, especially this part of the town. I had eggs royale which was made special by the inclusion of spinach and was therefore a cross between royale and florentine. I have to say this was one of the best I've had. My wife had banana cake with a coffee and peanut butter sauce. All this was washed down with a delicious cup of coffee. The atmosphere was good and the service excellent and efficient. We sat at the rear of the café and through the window we could see what looked like a very pleasant garden area albeit a little small. The prices were about average. I will certainly attend next time I'm in Lewes! I'm told there is a Trading Post in Brighton so will try that one next time I'm in town.

First off, the coffee was excellent. Clearly the primary purpose and expertise of this place. Had two types of beans, the moco loco was especially great as a hot coffee, and in an iced coffee too. The atmosphere is pretty nice too. Good place to hang out for coffee. So, 10/10 for that. But we went for lunch, and the food was not at all at the same level. Menu items looked good, and it tasted ok, but the ratios of ingredients were off, and the style of ingredients did not match the goals of the dish - for example, potato hash was more like a roast vegetable tray bake, and there were lots of burnt bits, and uneven cooking. Chickpeas in another dish were small hard pebbles. Maybe we chose badly. If you want food, choose wisely I guess.

Nearly £12 for 2 coffees and a flapjack, usual prices but you'd expect a decent cup of coffee, not a lukewarm cup of sour brown bathwater, not the servers' fault but obviously under staffed and under trained. Lol why is it always like this in most of the coffee shops I go to!

Ordered a takeaway babychino for my 3 year old, and they gave her a coffee. I didn't release until she had drunk most of it. When I told them their mistake, they simply laughed it off and barely apologised. Gormless staff, either inexperienced or poorly trained both of which are not ideal. A total lack of desire to rectify the situation. Also ordered 3 drinks and 2 came within 5 minutes the 3rd I had to wait about 20 minutes for, not the first time that has happened.

The perfect breakfast! If the English Tourist Board is still in existence, it should come here, take a photo of the full English breakfast and send it to all their B&B members and ask them to make sure their breakfast full English looks and tastes like this. Because it’s perfect! I won’t go into the detail - just rock up and have one. Thank me later. Oh and the coffee is excellent also.

Stopped in for breakfast whilst visiting Lewes. It is a place where there is both a bakery and a traditional English breakfast offering. It is a refined place, with high quality and a consequently medium-high cost.

Long term fan but recently has gone off the boil. Serving team left including the best baristas so quality of coffee hit and miss. Food generally good, along with service at quiet times, though very static menu. Main nightmare which is overly loud plastic unmusic from really in the day which rings the peace and quiet. Loudness and quality of the music had always been hit and miss but recently far worse.

First and foremost, great coffee. That's why I came here, and I was not disappointed. As I drink black coffee, the difference between good and poor quality really comes through. Secondly, the food offering looked good. I opted for a foccaci salmon sandwich, which was nice enough, but I wish I had gone for the cheese and ham on sourdough instead for a stronger flavour. I would order with confidence though, I suspect the food menu would be good also. Relaxed atmosphere and comfortable seats made this a lovely place to sit in Lewes, which has a lot of great food and coffee options.

We have visited 3 times now in the hope the previous experiences were just off days or a glitch, sadly not the case, 40 min wait for a very basic plate of food, previously had to ask for our hot drinks after 30 + mins and after breakfast was eaten, I have yet to have a hot drink with my breakfast order, breakfast today turned up 35 minutes after the coffee and was cold, we asked for it to be reheated, they took it away and when they brought it back however there was absolutely no difference in the food’s temperature and the food tasted horrible cold, there are plenty of staff, so that’s not the problem, we raised our issue regarding why it was taking over 30 mins just to get a coffee and the manager was defensive and rude, saying if we didn’t like it we didn’t have to stay?! Shocking customer service, appalling attitude shocked it keeps any customers.. really need training in customer service amongst other things

Trading Post was one of the few places available for an early breakfast on a Sunday in Lewes which is why we popped in. And we're very glad we did. Staff were friendly and helpful and there was a good selection of dishes (plus pastries) from which to choose. My wife's eggs Benedict with avocado was very nice although could have done wit( more avocado to satisfy her tastes. My sautéed potatoes with chorizo and a poached egg was excellent. Potato for breakfast! Both dishes were large servings and neither of us were able to finish. Very tasty, though. I had a chai tea which was different to any chai I've had before because it was chai-flavoured black tea and not the standard mild-based chai. It still had hints of cardamon and the like. Recommended as a place for a lovely breakfast.

I have been here twice for brunch. The first time it was excellent. Yesterday it was really bad. Ingredients listed on the menu were not used. We had to sent two plates back because the food was burnt (the burnt side turned over in the hope we wouldn't notice). In the end the hash that two of us ordered amounted to a bowl of boiled potatoes and an overcooked egg. Hopefully just a one-off bad day.

Not saying this to be mean but they really have the worst-trained, slow, uninformed staff. This is from several visits over many months. I’ve kept going because I love the coffee and food. (Albeit a dish I’ve been ordering gluten-free and today got told isn’t…) Lots of staff who are not that busy, just not focused on the job and not being efficient. Went to Bill’s instead (brunch costs the same) and the difference in staff attitude and working style is miles ahead. Several times I’ve been sitting at a table looking at my coffee on the counter getting cold and not being served to me! (Sometimes I just go and pick it up). Last time my food order took nearly an hour (it was quiet) - they had evidently forgotten about it but no apology. Even when I asked someone to check on it, they said ‘I’ll go and find out’, and didn’t but kept chatting to other staff and I had to ask someone else again. The list goes on. As per many other reviews here, tables are often not clean, whether it’s busy or not, bit of a grimey feel in general. Staff need to wake up and put their mind on the job.

Really lovely surprise, at the end of our walk we found this lovely pub, The Smugglers Rest, nestled above the cliffs with sea views and both a dog friendly area indoors and a non dog friendly area (very helpful if youre allergic, as I am). A good selection of vegan and veggie options on the menu We were in a late lunch/early dinner time of day, so we went for a selection of starters and picky bits, including the vegan falafel, all really good Excellent service from Lily, she was very helpful with our dietary requirements and knowledge on ingredients

Truthfully this was such a disappointing experience for all 4 of us. It was expensive, Brighton prices that simply werent justified. We had high expectations of this local pub as our companions had eaten there a few years ago. I asked what the pie of the day was, served with mash and veg, it was fish...what? There was already fish pie on the menu! We each had a 2 course meal in a soulless dining room that needed a refurb, we found it difficult to choose from the bland menu and 'settled' for fish and chips and fish pie. The staff were friendly which was the only positive. They weren't sure what was available on the menu. Sorry, but we simply can't recommend you.

Don't allow dogs. Nice staff but none seem happy. Sausage sandwich could have had a bit of butter, dry bread and cheesy sausage.
