Friendly staff member but she was the only one on duty at 3.00pm on the Monday we visited and she doubled up as the bar maid also. Food was average at best with the so-called roasted carrots accompanying my 'pie of the day' being served uncooked/so hard I could not cut them let alone try to eat them, whilst my friend's fish cakes were over cooked. The only saving grace was we had a '40% off mains' voucher so the mains only cost £10 per head + drinks at full price.

Nice pub with good atmosphere. Food was underwhelming- no seasoning and no avocado in an chicken-egg- avocado salad. We ordered some cocktails that were not great either. Very mid experience.

Went friday night to see Gabriella Parrish singing. Lovely atmosphere wth g8 entertainment. Drinks & service frm bar staff was excellent. Comfy cosy seating & surroundings. Highly recommend...will return.

Visited with my Mum on a beautifully sunny lunchtime after a walk along the South Downs and Telscombe Tye. The perfect venue for a cosy warm up meal indoors if the weather is rubbish, or in this case out in the warmth of the sun, with a lovely selection of drinks and food. Great food, good prices and variety, they’ve got friendly smiley staff, the manager came to chat too - seemed really chill and looking to do that bit extra to help both of us have the best experience. Will definitely be back - looks like they’ve got some great music events coming up. Thanks

Spend an impromptu evening relaxing in the in this beautifulpub, the team looked after us amazingly. The ambiance was just right and made us stay for more than we should. The food were lovely and catered for my partners allergy wonderfully. Top marks all round

Firstly, I'll get the negatives out of the way, I understand that it's expected that customers wait at the restaurant entrance to be seated, there are three primary issues here, if there are 3 or more people standing there waiting for several minutes it blocks the entrance, not once did a staff member say someone will be with you shortly, or similar, what is a serious concern is that it's an uncomfortable, unwelcoming feeling of being a sitting duck whilst the bar staff make fun of the customers, yes, thats correct the bar staff apparently get their kicks out of making fun of the customers ! The positives, the only staff member to come out of this experience with any credit is a male server dressed in black with a North Country accent, he's a professional amongst amateurs (in my opinion) , he recognised our discomfort and offered our party an alternative table as we were next to a table of 8 - 10 rowdy drinkers all shouting over each other (sorry, I'm back to the negatives) and the Fish and Chips were as god as anything I've ever previously tasted !

We had exceptional service from Summer who was welcoming, friendly and very efficient. The pub has a nice ambience and felt cozy on a chilly evening. The food is pretty average, just bog standard pub grub, nothing particularly wrong with it just no thrills!

A pretty decent visit to be fair. You always have to be wary of various reviews quoting names without much info, so I almost gave this place a miss. It was a fairly busy day and the wait at the bar was a bit longer than you’d hope for. A pint of Estrella for £6.05 isn’t the end of the world these days. Truth be told the garden/decking area felt a bit unloved and could do with a spruce up before summer, although it was generally quite pleasant on a calm day in early March. The manager chap (Irish and bearded?) seemed on the ball too and was kind to customers. A good pub by all accounts. Less on the spurious reviews would go a long way as people can spot them a mile off on Google these days!

Food was great. Scotch egg was very tasty as was the sticky chicken bites and the prawn cocktail. Lasagne is a firm favourite and the chicken burger was tasty and filling. Service was prompt and polite. All in all, a lovely lunch out

Great setting and our waitress was lovely. Food not so great! Chips and new potatoes were overcooked, singed broccoli, steak not cooked to requested doneness, mushrooms all cheese and no garlic, but worst of all, food for both myself and my daughter was tepid. Not great when you have fish! Won’t be back.

We went for Sunday lunch, I'm Gluten intolerant, and although the menu doesn't mention anything about what is available, Steve assured me that I can have everything from the roasts apart from the Yorkshire puddings, Simon was the chef and the food was great as was the service, worth a visit👍

It was our first time having a Sunday roast here and we were pleasantly surprised. We were met by a warm and inviting waitress Lily who made sure our experience was nothing but perfect. We were recommended the roast turkey (cooked by Ryan) which was delicious! The roast potatoes were our favourite part. We definitely will return, thank you Lily and Ryan!

was there yesterday sunday the 9th feb. ive been to this place a few times and can say ive not had a bad meal. but i had a roast lamb and it had to be the worse meal ive ever had. the meat was so raw i struggled to even cut it with a stake knife. 4 wot looked like new potatoes but fryed and 1 carrot cut in half. broccoli was so hard and 1 yorkshire. spoiled a brother's birthday

We often meet our friends for lunch at the Smugglers. A lovely pub which is part of the Vintage Inns group. The food is generally always of a good standard but on this occasion was a little dried up. However the service in the form of Cloe was excellent and very attentive to our needs. For anyone who hasn't visited the pub the views are spectacular overlooking the sea.

Steve is the best waiter, has lovely conversations with you and makes you feel welcome, we have been here a few times and had him serving us everytime, really good food definitely the best place to come for a Sunday roast 😍 will be back

What a lovely place! The pub is incredibly beautiful and welcoming, and so is the staff. The food was great, good portions and good prices - not easy to find a tasty turkey roast past Christmas. Steve looked after us with a smile on their face. I will definitely be back soon. Thank you all :)

Stalwarts Nicky and Cloe are a credit to your establishment. Why take the very popular (in the south anyway!) sausage and mash from your winter menu??

Food was gorgeous. Steve was a lovely waiter, very friendly and ready to answer any questions we had. Also seemed to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the menu!

Brilliant food, great staff, gets quite busy on a Sunday but very enjoyable.

After having been invited to dinner by our lovely friends, a table was booked online and we headed over. Our food (cooked by Amy) was very good indeed, despite running out of the veggie alternative for the roast, I was still able to order the roast just without the meat andy plate was full of beautifully cooked veggies and a Yorkshire pudding. The rest of our group ordered the lamb roast, fish and chips and gammon and all were thoroughly enjoyed. Lily (who served us) was lovely, friendly, attentive and efficient, ensuring we had everything we needed with and after our meal and made us feel very welcome. Thank you to both Amy and Lily for their excellent service catering for all our requirements.

Lovely first visit to The Smugglers. We had our dog with us and had not booked but a member of staff found us a great table. Our server was Debby who was super efficient and friendly. We had an excellent meal (fish cakes and lasagne). Hot, tasty and served very promptly. We were offered sauces and the drinks from the bar were correct. The dog even got a special treat. We will definitely be back. One star missing as an item we ordered was not available. Thank you

3/5 is always my start point and then varies according to experience. The staff were friendly and attentive. Sat next to open fire, fire beautiful just a little too warm. Our food was very good, only complaint for me was i ordered medium ribeye and it was rare, but other than that we all enjoyed our meals. Ive seen some complain about the price but if you want your meals cooked by proper chef with decent cuts of meat and fresg veg, you will pay a little more. Food 4/5. Staff 5/5. Environment 4/5. Cleanliness 4/5.

Location is great! Hence why we came. Food has been always a bit disappointing… It can get very busy on a sunny day, but if not busy - sitting outside is just amazing … I’m in two minds if to come back to this place or not ; I do sincerely hope they improve their food quality … service is not too bad, not great neither ; they take ages to bring anything , ie like ketchup etc … polite of course but not the best. My main issue though is the food quality , I don’t even want to go into the details ; attaching the picture maybe you can see for yourself , those broccoli the worst I’ve ever eaten in my life and fish is not impressive neither and a very weird sauce …… chips are average too , sorry guys but it’s my honest feedback and I hope you improve 🙏🏻

We went to Smugglers Rest last night for a birthday dinner . There’s a lovely atmosphere as soon as you walk in, lovely decor and cosy fires. The food was really good and the service was amazing. One of our party has an allergy and this was dealt with really well with great detail and understanding. We had a fantastic night- thank you, I would highly recommend a visit

My burger was overcooked, however Addisons service made up for it!!

No stars from me. Tried to order food and drink 2 minutes before 6pm today. It was like I was asking for world peace. Went somewhere with a lot more customer care.

A super pub with a roaring open fire, yummy homely food, clean tables & a fantastic outside area overlooking the sea with just the most lovely sunsets. Edie & Addison served me, they were very friendly & made me feel very welcome as I was alone & they couldn't do enough for me. Can't wait to come back!

We have visited the Smugglers for many years in its various forms. We hadn't visited for a while but made a return visit for lunch. The food was very good, the setting warm and comfortable. The service was exceptional, Debby our waitress was very friendly and efficient, we will certainly return in the future.

Very pleasantly surprised. Nice meal. Badly understaffed though. Poor girl rushed off her feet. Ordered meat feast pizza. Not sure what I got but it was yummy. Will return one day when next in area. Sure enough we returned and the Smugglers was our one and only choice. Not disappointed. Steak was excellent. Service from Addison was first rate. Will come back again next time we visit family in Peacehaven. Just returned again. Still good Would like baked potatoes next time if possible????

I ordered fish and chips first time I was there (15.09.2024) – it was fine. Second time (27.10.2024) fish and chips again was waiting over an hour for it and finally served a fish burnt to the core! With staff pretending that everything is fine I was boiling. Lucky you my sister calmed me down. The third time (26.12.2024) was with my friend. I didn’t want to go, He wanted. 3 course meal: 1. Soup – fine 2. Dessert – what?! – waiter was told that after soup they should serve a main meal not the dessert so he took it back 3. Main meal – duck and pork belly – both nothing special. They looked like they are taken out from the same jar. 4. After asking four times by the bar where is our dessert they served it again. They just put it somewhere while we ate dinner to bring it back to us again so imagine how whipped cream looked like. They served cheesecake with soup spoon to eat – unbelievable. Taking into account quality of the food served it varies from unacceptable to too expensive.

Very good food, a nice place for lunch. We come here a few times a year and it's always reliable. Service can be a little slow sometimes as they get very busy but that's a minor quibble.
