Just got a takeaway coffee but best coffee I've ever had!

This place does my favourite Cornish pasties of anywhere I have been...even if I'm passing through Lewes station on my way to somewhere else and I have at least 30 mins before my next train arrives, I make a point of rushing here to pick up a Cornish pasty! Yummie!

Friendly & accommodating service. Good prices. Tight fit for 3 people

I saw Biscoff yum yums in lewes and from the first bite I was hooked. Unfortunately they stopped making them until we requested them last week 24/6/23. Went in today and picked them up and was not disappointed. Soft, light and very gooey. Thank you bakeout and please keep making them

The young staff were very noisy today (21/5) at 1:30pm. They laughed out loud. The guy who made the coffee sand loudly. This confused the visitors. This staff behaviour is suitable for a nightclub only

My friend and I ordered 3 too good to go bags from yourselves! Jam packed full of delicious items and goodies! Would highly recommend, and at full price too 🔥😊

Lovely place but I was annoyed that the staff are soo hot in there and no fans are provided for them, especially the person making the coffees all day. Im amazed that the top boss won’t allow fans for them which is pretty selfish and cheap of them, I mean really a fan, that’s so the staff need to keep cool. I’m sure there’s-a law against that. So a fan plz for your staff will be appreciated.

Enjoyable takeaway lunch: cheese and ham croissant and cheese straws. Good quality, reasonable price.

Went in today for a baguette. Asked if I could have one of the darker ones as I find them crustier. The girl on the counter said “ they are all the same “which they clearly were not. Would it be such a hassle to smile and spend 5 seconds picking out one of the darker baked loaves. I suppose it’s just a job to her.

Friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of choices of food to eat, both savoury and sweet. Catered for vegetarians. Good choice of hot and cold drinks. Very clean.

Three reasons why this is the best bakery in Lewes: 1. consistently delicious sourdough. Other bakers are inconsistent - sometimes the starter has imparted very odd off flavours 2. they slice your bread - meaning you get much better value from the loafs 3. fairly priced - presumably there is not a premium being charged for some kind of boden like atmosphere. No pretension. Locals know it is just good, honest bread.

Lovely place, had a Cornish pasty which was really nice. Clean shop, staff very friendly and the bread looks so nice! Will return when visiting lewes next time

Hardly any meat in the pia at all for 3.50? At least a bit.

Over priced. We sat in for coffee and cake only to be served in paper cups and bags. There were 2 tables free, both dirty and had ask person behind the counter to wipe the table clean. They wiped ours and needless to say the lady who came in next had to ask as well. Wouldn’t recommend this place

They do really nice vegan food, but they use a chai latte powder containing milk even when you ask for a non-dairy chai. It could make someone really sick, they need to fix that immediately.

Discovered this independent bakery in Lewes , with fantastic selection of home baked sweet and savoury items , resonantly priced and indoor and out door seating. Dog friendly and staff friendly too , recommended.

Stopped here for a hot drink after a wander around the beautiful town. Husband had a Cornish pasty which he thoroughly enjoyed and a cappuccino and I had the best chai latte I've had in my life. We took away some sandwiches to eat on the downs that were also superb. Will go back tomorrow and would thoroughly recommend

We had 2 truly disgusting pizzas here which had been nuked in the microwave.

Found this place while exploring this area. This bakery located on the corner after walking on a lovely bridge in Lewes. Nice smell of baking, couldn’t stop myself so decided to stop to buy some bread. After try one, I wanna try all the other as so good in taste. Defo recommend

Just picked up a pasty and sausage roll to share with my wife today , we had half each of both items , 1stly sausage roll the meat was very dry and bland in flavour the pastry was very dark and dry , very poor quality , the pasty was even worse , the filling was just a mush of im not sure but I did see a pea in there , and an overwhelming taste of pepper , pastry again was dark and very dry , in all a very poor lunch , will not be going there again , would not recommend to anyone .

Good choice of fair with very good service at reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Most days o can’t help myself - fresh croissants and bread. Always friendly though sometimes busy.

Brilliant little establishment for fast service and wide range of snacks, hot drinks and cakes. I will definitely go back when in the area.

I’ve been coming into Bake Out for the last couple of years and normally have lovely coffee but the last couple of months they all seem to be quite cold and not very nice. They seem to have a new barista who seems to be incompetent. Definitely going to stick to Trading Post for my regular drinks now.

Best take-out pizza 🍕 I could get very fat here. I’ve been about 10 times 🤦🏻‍♀️

I used to really enjoy the coffee from bake out. Unfortunately the standard of coffee making has really declined over the last few months and the flat white I was presented with today was basically a white coffee and so hot it burnt our mouths. I thought I'd give them another chance today but instantly regretted it.

Everything shifted round for the better; staff delightful; hot drinks ok; pastries good... & the cheese straws... I'm addicted...

Delicious bakery, top class croissants, Danish pastries and cakes. They have a great range of artisan breads and sandwiches. Call in, grab an excellent coffee, maybe a cake or two and sit in the outside seating area so you can 'people watch' on Lewes's pedestrianised shopping street in the sun.

Small bakery shop, but perfect! The best ham & cheese croissant I have ever eaten, melted cheese is heavenly. We also loved the quiche and the sausage roll. As a lovely extra we had street musicians singing songs from 80s :)

Could not get a coffee because they were saving the milk for the following morning, In other words they could not be bothered to make one. This is what happens when you get young staff who just don't give a rats. Last time I was there same apathetic service. So the owners have learnt nothing.

Great sourdough bread, like the type you can find in Poland. Can't find any other place making such a good bread!

Popped in for some cheese and onion pasties, also picked up a spinach and ricotta bake. Yes, tasty enough, though the pasty was over done, and burned in places. Be quite happy to try again, though would also look around for somewhere else.

Bought 2 loaves today Sunday 10.20. Saturday bread. Stale. Sold full price. Why?

Lovely coffee and pastries today! Marmite cheese straw is amazing! Staff were also great with my mum who uses a wheelchair and really helpful!

....but a little tight for space. However the lunch was delicious and hot. Soup with cheese straws was lovely.

Poor service. Coffee arrived without a saucer. When I asked for one the waitress just gave me a blank stare. I pointed to my partners saucer and very slowly said S-A-U-C-E-R. I asked for hot milk. Was told ok. Got cold. My partner's cheese stick failed to turn up. Had to ask for it. And her cup still had the remains of the previous drink baked around the sides. Young staff. Incompetent. No wonder there were so few people there when other places were crowded. Avoid!

Had a roll there was way to hard . Cake had hair inside and tea is really bad there .

Offers a really good quality oat 'milk' as an alternative to cows milk, always happy to refill my coffee can on a busy Saturday Farmers market. A great selection of sandwiches and rolls to takeaway or eat in, outside seating too. Friendly staff.

Stop here most weekends for lunch, the staff work so hard under lots of pressure...food, and latte totally spot on, always my fave in Lewes!

After a couple of hours rambling across the downs we arrived in Lewes looking for a lunch stop. The Bake Out bakery and cafe looked inviting. The staff were so helpful and friendly. Lovely coffee, cheese and bacon panini and delicious sausage rolls. Oh, and the best ring doughnut I have ever had, naughty but nice. Great central location near the river and shops. Check out the Railway Land nature reserve nearby if you have time, a hidden gem.

If you want a really good cup of coffee, order a flat white here. The flavor comes through and the service is above par. Great place to sit outside and people watch or snuggle into the bar inside.

Great cheese scones and one of the best Mocha I've had. Good little pit stop highly recommended.

The best 100% spelt loaf I've found! Most others I've tried are like eating sawdust and cardboard, but Bake Out's loaf is just like white wheat bread in texture, but much nicer! Folks who have trouble digesting wheat should definitely try it!

Great place to stop for a lovely flat white coffee and a bite to eat. The pepperoni pizza was delicious and the Almond croissant, very tasty. Friendly attentive staff and a great selection of breads.

My partner and I went into Bakeout in Lewes at about 3.45 on Sunday afternoon for a cup of tea and a cake. We sat down and the tea arrived around 5 minutes later. At exactly 4.00pm one of the staff came up to us and said we had to leave, they were closed. As we had just poured our tea and drunk about half a cup I thought we should be allowed to finish, or at least given a few minutes to do so. The staff member was completely inflexible and said we had to go immediately, he would put the tea into a takeaway cup if we wanted but we couldn't stay a minute longer. I didn't feel like standing outside on a cold March afternoon drinking tea decanted into a paper cup after I'd paid to sit in a cafe. I asked for our money back and, after a lengthy argument, he agreed to refund us. I told him I'd be leaving a bad review for his cafe. The guy then started telling me how rude I was. Then someone else sitting next to us, who also turned out to be a member of staff, told us we 'must have very boring lives' to make such a fuss. We got our refund and, as we left, the first guy started mumbling insults as he closed the door behind us. Just astonishing rudeness and bad service from Bakeout. Never mind, they won't have to put up with us ever again!

Spotted this bakery on the corner after walking on a lovely bridge in Lewes and decided to stop to buy some bread as l rarely get to enjoy real bread since living in the UK. I got a rye sourdough and sliced myself a piece of that sourdough and l loved it. Now l need to try all the other!

I’ve been meaning to write a review for Bake Out in Lewes for ages but not got round to it. We were there (again!) this morning & I thought I must just sit and spend a few short moments out of my day later and write a review... why did I think to do it today? Because when I was sitting enjoying my pot of tea and delicious cheese straw I was listening to the staff at work and thought to myself that they are possibly the most pleasant, friendly and welcoming bunch of staff I have come across for ages and they are consistently so as well. We have been going to Bake Out for ages now and always the staff are so wonderfully welcoming and friendly as well as being efficient and professional - and they seem to be like it with every customer that steps foot in! I don’t know if this is because they are genuinely nice people (I’m sure they are!) or if it is a ‘culture’ that comes from the business owners, behaviour breeds behaviour I think. Either way complete ‘hats off’ to the staff. We pretty much always go in on a Saturday and they are a young bunch of staff working that day who are a complete credit to the organisation and to their generation as a whole.

A lovely cosy bakery. Either buy bread, or have a quick snack. Sausage rolls here are exceptionally nice. Two downsides are the pastry can be very crumbly and the food & drink can be very expensive.

I've not had coffee or eaten in here, however I can certainly recommend the sour dough bread. About the best I've had. Only problem is that by the time I've finished work they've sold out quite often. Update. Tried the coffee (flat white) and it's geeat. Cheese straws are mighty fine too.

Having driven down from the Peak district to find breakfast pre working this was a great find. We had coffees and a rather fine tuna melt coupled with a bacon and brie. It's not like being in Paris and the bread is made off site. However, it's a wonderful selection we got two loaves and eyed up another that we were given because I was taking a picture of it. Great cup of coffee al fresco in the active High Street with lovely service from the staff. Great position just near the bridge for people watching.

Me and my Girlfriend both had the Goats Cheese and Caramelised Onion Ciabatta. I cannot recommend it highly enough, food was lovely and was very quickly brought over after ordering. Staff were great too :)

Coffee very mediocre, forgot my bacon roll!

They do great bread of a similar quality to the Flint Owl bakers but about 30% less in price. Not tried much of their cakes as a bit out of my price range. Staff are very helpful and always slice the bread if asked.

Had a lovely lunch sitting outside, watching the delights of Lewes unfold, enjoyed a freshly made sandwich followed by a delicious fruit tart all washed down with a latte couldn’t have been better, the staff are both attentive and friendly. We will be back

Lovely bakery with very nice staff attentive and helpful. What an amazing choice of pastry. For every person and every taste there is something to find. I love cheese sticks and also sausage rolls. All fresh and delicious.

Bakery and Café with nice ambience and delicious pasties, soups etc. Highly recommended. Quite busy at lunchtimes, but there is a good reason for this! Similar prices to supermarket factory pre-packed sandwiches, but so much nicer.

All good, service good with friendly staff, serviced quickly in a busy lunchtime. Food was nice. Would go there again. 9/10

By far the best pain au raisin I've had in the UK; crisp pastry and rich fruit that goes well with coffee. Seeded sourdough bread is also excellent.

Good coffee and cakes/sausage rolls etc. Take out and sit on the bridge close by and enjoy. Quite pricey but worth it.

We were looking for somewhere reasonably priced in the town for a small lunch and this was perfect. We tried the sausage rolls - brilliant.

Highly recommended. The place smells wonderful. A little crowded - it was Saturday. But a great range of food. In the centre of historic Lewes. A good choice

I often visit the Bake Out store in Lewes and i just wanted to say how friendly the staff are everytime i go in, nothing is ever too much for them they always go that extra mile. The food is always fresh and nicely presented with a wide variety of options. Would highly reccomend.

There used to be a bakery here that was god ugly - but all the food was tasty -fresh and honest. Bakeout is none of those things. The Food is expensive and the pasties and sausage rolls are stale. A bit of grey paint and a few fancy chopping boards do not a cafe make. Avoid
