The White Lion Hotel Restaurant in Lewes

Rapid service from a kindly bar person. A nice, relaxing pint of Neck Oil. Well - at half-one on a Thursday afternoon, anyway. Also saw a beer garden and a decent conservatory, although I didn't use either as I was happy where I was listening to the locals talking about horse racing and the coldness of the weather.

If it's close proximity to the Newhaven ferry you're after, this is an ideal place to stay. Lovely staff, quite old fashioned hotel but all clean and well cared for. Good breakfast. Pet friendly too

We had a lovely stay at the white lion, the room was very clean and comfortable, last time we stayed there we ate elsewhere, what a big mistake, the meal we had in the white lion was superb, we had six in our party and all were very impressed with their meal. Also the staff were very attentive, especially Martin and Jordan

Myself and 6 friends had a get together there last week for an evening meal and could not have been happier.. If the rooms are as good as the food and service then I would rate the hotel 4star for sure. Plenty of food on our plates and all served up piping hot .. Will definitely return 👍

The white Lion laid on some lovely food at a very reasonable price and also provided a free private room for a wake. They were very flexible with options when booking, the food and drink was excellent and they couldn't have been more hospitable. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Nice accommodation located close to Seven Sisters Natural Park. Clean and comfortable rooms. Great breakfast!

Was a great experience coming here during my Strongman competition. Was well rested and the hospitality was first class. Will make a future return.

Ci sono stato solo per una notte il 12 agosto. Camera enorme, pulita e con dotazione funzionante. Tutta la struttura avrebbe bisogno di una rinfrescata ma tutto sommato accettabile. La colazione inclusa, tipicamente inglese senza molte alternative comunque ben cucinata. Nessun problema dal Pub sottostante.

Wierd experience, only pub outside brighton charges for soda water. Not hugley friendly for a drink after work. Wont bother again.

Lovely overnight stay, with a great breakfast included too. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating - they even posted my lost shirt to me after. Very warm, family-run hotel. Highly recommended!

Reasonably priced single room with en suite shower. V friendly staff. Close to centre, and Coaster bus stop is just a few metres away. Excellent, hot breakfast. Not as noisy as some pubs I've stayed in. The exterior and the breakfast room would both benefit from redecoration.

Only used it as a pub livery for a Thursday evening conservatory was nice also a television in an a other bar for those who like that dog friendly too I liked it and would go back if that way again

I had the smallest cheapest room Which was perfect for a short visit. Private bathroom, comfortable night's sleep. Above a pub which is perfect if like me you like a drink before bedtime. Excellent cooked breakfast.

Pub rooms ok but pub vibe not for a hotel situation, very loud, locally attended bar very busy.. Close to Seaford town 5 min walk , plenty of shops etc . Newhaven ferry port close by too. Rooms clean and tidy , breakfast good too and was cooked early as we had an early ferry to catch..

Stayed here many times. Never had any problems. Food is fantastic. Staff are very professional and friendly. Really like this place for a weekend away.

The family room was clean, with everything you need from iron to sparkling water, milk, tea/coffee. Beds are comfy, and nice light and airy rooms. Breakfast is nice :)

Stayed for a week while working in Seaford. Had such a great time I stayed another week before staying in the bungalow we were doing up. Made a point to return at least once a week throughout the project to enjoy the fantastic food and the company of Mike, Paige, Jess and Alicia. And Tracy's desserts are to die for. If you haven't stayed or eaten here there is only one question - why not? You won't be disappointed!!

I have had three meals here so far and everyone of them has been worth the money ..good portions at a reasonable price..

My go-to place in Seaford. This time I was waiting for Barney the Border Collie to be pampered at "not just poodles" across the road. Beer was excellent food looked delicious, but I didn't eat. And, as usual, everyone, staff and customers alike, lovely and friendly.

I’ve been to eat here several times with my family so we booked for Mother’s Day today. On every level this was disappointing. We sat down and for over 30 minutes were completely ignored by staff. After asking a waitress how to order she said we have to go to the bar (which was interesting as we watched all the other tables receiving table service throughout). We were sat near the door and staff repeatedly opened the door and then left it open despite us asking to close it as it was cold. After ordering at the bar we waited another 30+ minutes for our food to arrive- still being completely ignored by staff and no explanation about why we had now been waiting for over an hour. We ate there a few weeks ago and had Sunday roasts which were fantastic. Today they arrived and were significantly smaller, minimal gravy as opposed to last time when they were large and covered in gravy. Vegetables were basic and boiled- not roasted like last time. Meat was tiny portion and the roast potatoes were undercooked. None of us (5 people) enjoyed our meal. The waitress slammed all our plates down and then there was no attempt to take dessert/drink orders at all. So another 15 minutes later I went to the bar to order dessert for 3 of our party. All 3 desserts were terrible. The trifle was watery, and the cheesecake was like a minty, foamy weird affair! When we went to pay the bar staff asked how the meal was, twice, so I said that I didn’t want to cause a scene but we were really disappointed because a couple of weeks ago we had a lovely meal and today was not enjoyable at all. She apologised but made no attempt to give a discount or offer a drink on the house. We paid the bill, and luckily before we left I took a second look at the bill (which again id had to request at the bar). We had been overcharged almost £50!!! We received a lack lustre apology once again, and got the amount we were overcharged back - to the penny! We were all appalled with every single element of our meal today and will find a new local as we certainly will not be returning

Excellent service and friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Room was clean and tidy. We stayed in the family room which was a lovely large space with separate sleeping areas. We ate in the restaurant food was lovely and service was great. Breakfast was the same standard and they were very accommodating, Would highly recommend staying here lovely atmosphere and staff.

We stayed here for a night. It was 5 minutes walk by the sea, about 10 minutes near the center of the Seaford. Room was spacious and beautiful, staffs were very friendly, and the breakfast was just amazing. Definitely going to visit there in summer!

I enjoyed my overnight stay here very much. Everything I needed was in the nice clean en-suite room. A good choice of breakfast too. Also the manager went out of his way to find me some Earl grey tea! A very pleasant stay!

Absolutely fantastic. Seven of us popped in on 02/01/2022 after a ten-mile hike at approx 3.30pm and the kitchen was about to close. The lovely bar staff had a chat with Chef and his mate, and they stayed open and served us all a banging roast dinner. Thank you! Up the Chels. HNY.

Called to check availability man was rude and said but and put the phone down. I only had a question. Will never go and stay now. Thanks mate I have the picture of my phone call for proof. I also just called back and asked if the man remembered my call. His reply was I did not hang up. Proves you lie. Thanks

Popular pub. Sports, food conservatory area. Very busy when I went but enough staff on so wait for drinks was not unreasonable.

Went in October 2021, with my wife and a mutual friend. Ate in the conservatory, which was a bit nippy at 7pm, but not a problem staff closed windows when we asked and other diners happy with that. I had pie 🥧 of the day, with mash and veg, which was venison and a full short crust pastry pie, no flimsy puff lids here. My wife and Friend both had scampi and chips. A few issues, just a bit lacking in getting it right, scampi came with no Tatar sauce, although clearly on the menu, came when asked, pie came with no gravy, came when asked, diet coke was flat but replaced with no issues. For dessert, sticky toffee pudding great, apple crumble not so topping not crumbly but a bit 'claggy' obviously been reheated. Only spotted the specials board later, looked like some good stuff on there. So all in all, reasonably good food, but attention to detail could have made it great. P.S. the chips were more like fries. Have been before, probably go again, but at 10.95 for a main expect a bit more.

I always stay at the white lion hotel. When I Come to Seaford to visit my brother. The owners and staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are good value for the price. Basic and traditional guest house style accommodation. Could have been more friendly reception on arrival. And towels that could hold more water would have been good. Expensive for what was on offer.

My partner our dog and I stayed the week here for a family holiday. Mike and the staff are so friendly, top marks for keeping our dog happy too. Glad they survived though the lockdown.

I just arrived today for over weekend. I was shocked when I saw my room cleaned to high standard. Im bit crazy about cleaning so im watching every single detail. Staff are also wonderfull people, very kind. Highly I recommend this hotel and for sure I will be back here 😍. Dominika

I've had very different experiences with this place. My last time visiting ended up with me in hospital 🤣 many years ago. ( My drink was spiked.) I've personally not visited since but I know my brothers and my father visit this place for a cool beer and a meal. They 100% recommend this place. So going by there recommendation go visit. Probably under new management since I last visited 🤣😇

Heavy metal music from 11pm until 4.30 am, all on offer for breakfast was a sandwich which was left outside the room at 10pm at night, not sure the hosts understand the meaning of hospitality !!

Went for Sunday lunch. Great meal, nicely cooked and served very hot. We'll done to the chef and his staff. It would appear that the White Lion specialises in drinking rather than food, which is a shame as the food is good.

I booked a hotel for the night. no one accommodated me and no one even answered my phone

I and my friend spent one night while on a trip around South England. We had two separate single rooms, and we both were unhappy and disappointed. The room and the bathroom were very clean, and the owner was friendly; however, the toilet doesn't flush properly and the water in the little sink takes ages to flow. The bed and the pillows are extremely uncomfortable, the people staying in the other rooms were very noisy, slamming doors and making loud noises in the hallway during the entire night. The window wasn't closing properly so I could hear all the noise from the main street, which was keeping me and my friend awake. Also, with the excuse of the pandemic, they say that for breakfast they only have a sandwich and a pack of crisps, no alternatives; it is absolutely ridiculous that you don't have even a very limited choice, especially because they don't tell you while you're booking. The website says that you have a continental breakfast, without specifying that, due to the pandemic, the service is temporarily reduced. It's very easy to find much better for the same price, I highly not recommend it.

This is a very, well supported venue, with a good selection of beers, lagers and ciders. Super friendly and welcoming staff, who work hard to make your visit a good one. Decent menu and very well priced, offering plenty of choices from locally sourced ingredients. Free WiFi, live sports in the public bar, free parking, but not exactly well thought out!!! Punters tend to park on the grass verge...turning it into a quagmire. Worth a visit.

We wanted a light lunch and found an extensive menu. We sat in a nice conservatory and were cheerfully served. We ordered a jacket potato and ciabatta which were very tasty and very good value for money.

Kind staff, friendly staff, I'm an African who stayed in the ensuite room after a nights work in seaford. They made breakfast for.me. room was tidy. Bathroom clean. Amenities sufficient. I didnt feel out of place or excluded. Quite despite being a pub. Quite neighbourhood. Comfortable bed. I'd return here

Very convenient location for me, I had a car, there was good parking. The room was lovely and clean and, well stocked. They are a very friendly place, and the included breakfast is just what you need in the morning. Very happy and coming back!

Nice pub/bar as part of hotel. Range of beers and gins, wide choice of beers that are well kept. Good food too for both lunch and dinner.

My family and I stayed for 2 nights in the family room which turned out was more of an apartment. It was spacious, well presented, clean and had a view of the sea. I was worried that it might be noisy being above a pub but it was really quiet. Food was excellent and management and staff were very friendly and helpful. We definately recommend the white lion to others visiting charming Seaford.

Had an amazing roast dinner for Father’s Day very reasonably priced had s lovely afternoon there well worth a visit
