Really disappointing take-out. first time ever we've had a bad meal from here after 30 years . The chips were hard and greasy and the fish looked grey. We did ring to complain after having to throw the meal away and the girl hung up twice and was then rude

Was a beautiful sunny day today which was only ruined by this fish shop. The chips were so soggy I had to peel the paper off of them. The battered sausage tasted like it had gone off and the spicy curry sauce was watery to say the least.

At last some tasty traditional Fish & Cips. Delicious.

Great fish and chips, also do battered haggis ! Staff friendly and smells like an old fashioned fish and chip from when I was young.

The staff here are as lovely as their food. I had the cod and chips and despite it being wrapped for the drive home by the time I ate it the batter was still perfect. The fish was flaky and tasted amazing. The chips were some of the nicest I’ve had. My partner has intolerances to gluten and dairy, I contacted the fish bar via facebook and they went to the lengths of sending me photos of the packaging for ingredients and batters to confirm that she could order from here. They do a gluten free day on a Wednesday every other week, which I find is great as it really is surprisingly how many people are actually affected by gluten. Being with someone that has such problems it’s nice to have a local establishment become a staple in our month as we can now eat a take away together again after years of her missing out. So thank you Newhaven Fish Bar, for being inclusive and making amazing fish and chips of course!

I have been coming here since my lovely neighbour told us about it and we both are delighted we did. Tje food is just fantastic so fresh and extremely tasty. The extra spicy curry sauce is amazing matched with wonderful customer service every time. That’s why we are only to happy to drive from peacehaven to get our scrumptious food . 5 STARS thanks girls 🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸

Chips were stuck together and definitely not just cooked. Fish was overcooked and dry. Far too much food. Should concentrate on quality not quantity!

Visited as recommended and for a Monday evening had a steady trade so a promising start. Ordered and was told 10 minutes, my response was as long as it's cooked doesn't matter how long . The fish was thick ,moist and flaky, unfortunately nothing else was good. Batter soft and wet ,chips under cooked,great shame as given the time to cook properly I am certain it would have been very good.

Tried their GF night and it was really great! The fish was well cooked and the 'breading' was as good or better than the non-gf version! It's worth a try even if you aren't gluten free. We were really impressed with the GF curry sauce as well!

Newhaven is not a place I have ever visited or ever intend to visit again. It's not the nicest seaside towns. Feels a bit rough round the edges. But the best thing about Newhaven is the fish bar. Large flakes of delicious white cod in a crispy batter and a good portion of chips made this chippy well worth a visit! Staff were friendly and price was reasonable.

Gross / Inedible. All overcooked, poor quality, poor service, very slow, limited opening hours. Will not return, regret spending £11 on a meal 'deal' there. Oh and they forgot to put salt and vinegar on it after asking.. Which I'm sure you'll all agree is the worst part of this!

My Favourite chippy on the coast. Parking is difficult but if you drive to the end of the road there is a massive car park overlooking the English Channel where you can eat your takeaway Mind the seagulls!!

When we've had fish and chips from them it's been OK with decent portion of chips, tasty fish and crispy batter. Delivery man is lovely, always friendly and quick if the temperature of the food is anything to by. So why only 3 stars out of 5, simply because even though they offer a delivery service as soon as they get busy in the shop they won't answer the phone! No phone = no order = no food. Just when you fancy having dinner delivered you end up having to find something else or cooking because they can't be bothered to answer the phone. Delivery if you're lucky, hungry or Kebab if you're not.

Best chippy in town and they accept payment with cards which is a big bonus for me, no excuse not to these days, but a lot of chippys don't surprisingly.

Good Fish n chips the batter is crisp and golden you can't ask more than that. The delivery man is always friendly and chatty It's the best chippy around.

Beautiful fresh fish and chips and the best curry sauce

My review from three years ago gave the shop 5 stars and, I posted, "My favourite fish and chips, very fresh." Since then, the quality has noticeably declined. I ordered a delivery three weeks ago - it arrived quickly and was hot. Disappointingly, after eating my supper, my mouth was left with a coating of what seemed like flour. Had the oil been used too many times? The two people I dined with also agreed with me about the deterioration over the past year in quality of the food from the Newhaven Fish Bar. I might try the food there again but, for now, I'll look elsewhere for fish and chips when I visit Newhaven.

Well it's not often you find an old fashion chippy that knocks it out of the park. I ordered an array of food and the staff were second to none, we have a large picky family including a veggie that don't eat fish (ps that's me). But the staff were very helpful and we managed to satisfy all. We had cod, haddock, veggie burgers, baggers, fish cakes, sausages, curry sauces and garlic mayo and more chips than you can shake salt at. The staff were so friendly, Charlie on the fryer making the crispiest batter to Simon - he is their delivery driver (possibly that happiest person I have very encountered). Keep up the amazing work you fine bunch of beautiful people, unit next visit x

Had fish and chips here a few days ago. 4 different orders and all served perfectly.Good fish and non greasy chips, just right. Staff very helpful and served with a smile.

Have been many times before, should have learnt from last visit!! Had to wait a good 20+mins, NOT worth the wait, fish awful, ended up throwing away, chips tasteless, weird taste, old oil ?! Definitely wouldn't recommend and will definitely not be going back again or recommending it!!

If you are local then look no further, this is the place for you. The Fish & Chips are second to none. Just like the staff and service. Don't take my word for it, give them a try ??....

Amazing food and friendly service

Last week I was in Newhaven and I was looking for a good fish and chips meal. Once entered in this take away restaurant, I ordered fried cod and fried chips: the worst meal after a while. For sure, the worst fish and chips I have ever had in my whole life. Staff is unfriendly and not qualified, hygiene level is super low (even if it has a 5/5 hygiene standard rate, I wonder how!!! Just look at the main door, windows, soft drinks fridge, food warmers, ...), at least prices are good. I give 1 point for the prices. Cod was completely unsalted, not crunchy at all, and I had to throw away their unhealthy chips: all of this has been deep fried in old and contaminated oil. It would be so easy to properly run a chip shop! For sure I will not come back.

This chip shop is overpriced and staff are not very friendly, do you're self a favour and go to horaces fish shop in Newhaven Town, avoid Newhaven fish bar.

Got to know about this gem from my neighbour . The fish and chips is just superb. The batter was amazing so is the spicy Curry sauce. We have been twice now and again the food was superb. And the lovely staff give you lovely service. I’ve eaten fish from all of the south coast and this is the best fish & Chips we have had in years.

Really great fish and chips every time- fast and delicious. Always excellent and friendly efficient staff. Don’t blame the restaurant if your food is not delivered on time or is cold when it arrives- that’s on your delivery driver/company. Pick it up yourself- you could probably do with the walk!

Undercooked chips and tasteless fish.

Just been reading the 1 star reviews, most start with I have been be a customer for 20 year. Then go on to say they had one bad order. Personally this should be a 5 star review, 19 years of amazing food is petty good going (it must have been good to keep you a client for that long)I have lived in Newhaven for 20 years and can confirm I have never had any issues. All the staff are amazing along with the very busy owner (the one at the back running around like loon). And the food is amazing, both my sets of parents alway have a take away from them when they visit as they say it's the best. So to sum it up, they will on average make 1 mistake every 40ish years, so be warned lol.

I had the urge for fish and chips after a walk at Cuckmere Haven. Cooked to order, the fish was some of the best I’ve had in ages. Light batter, and the freshest flakiest cod.

Used this place a few times and never had an issue, has always been OKAY. Tonight food turned up, on time, but cold, stone cold all of it. We had to reheat the chips and mushy peas, didnt finish the cold sausages. Called the shop straight away, whomever was on shift tonight genuinely has no idea of customer service, or reality in their trade. The way my call was recieved made it clear, with no surprise that my meal was A lost cause from the start. I could have dealt with spending money on a treat meal that turned up cold if we wern't met with such disgusting service. Well done Newhaven fish bar, you have outdone yourselves. You must be super proud of your choice of employees this evening, wasting peoples money and treating them colder than the food you serve. Bravo.

It's really good food! It's fish and chips but done well. With friendly service and decent pricing. Parking nearby can be a bit tricky but worth going with someone so one of you can stay with the car and the other goes in. Fish and chips isn't the fanciest of food but done well its a nice treat and these guys do it well.

If you can go and get it yourself. Delivery very slow. Was given an time of 80 mins , rang 20 mins ago and she said it was on its way left 5 mins ago. If I’d had known I would of gone to the shop.

Great chippy, one of the few places down south where you can get battered haggis. Initially thought the price of £4 was pricey, but it was enormous. With chips too, it took 20 minutes, understandable as it was a special order. Though things were taking longer than usual for most, due to the protocols for Covid. They adopted a very much 'safety first' approach and though it was a bit of a faff having to wait outside, it was proably for the best. Shame I live 100 miles away, as it was great.

Food is always well cooked and tasty. Friendly staff. Rang through our order and was given a time to collect. Contact less payment available in the shop. (Or they take cash) They can't take card payments over the phone.

Best fish and chips we've had for ages.

Placed an order to be delivered, was told it would take an hour to come - 2 hours later we were still waiting for our food to come. We had to phone up to ask if our food was actually coming, they assured us it was on its way and they were very busy. Aside from this, the food was fantastic and did arrive hot and fresh. Will definitely buy food from here again, however, will collect rather than order for delivery.

Middle of the road chippy, chips fair (new spuds). Far better than on ferry and cheaper wander down road to fort for suitably scenic eating

The chips were fluffy and hot and crispy and covered with salt and vinegar and 100% delicious.

Cod was firm and flaky but huss was soft and mushy - horrible. Chips ok. Won't use again.

Quite simply the BEST fish and chips in Newhaven. My wife doesn't really like battered fish, but on recommendation she tried it here. Light and crispy batter and she LOVED it! Also battered pigs in blankets.. I have seen that nowhere else. If you haven't been to this very reasonable priced and superb quality fish bar. You really should. Even passing through, it's easy to get to and friendly staff.

Heard about this fish & chip bar from a visit by the chef Tom Kerridge!!! Had already tried a take away fish supper but bit the bullet and booked a table. Cannot fault the crispy batter & the very tasty and crucially dry fish, was a wee bit disappointed that they ey had run out of the "whale" sized fish, but the large haddock certainly hit the spot! Chips were nice and crispy & pretty tasty as well. The only negatives were the curry sauce, which was sort of sweet and seemed more of an Indian concution and they did not supply tartar sauce with the meal, think you had to pay extra if you wanted it. All in all an enjoyable visit and will certainly be back in the very near future.

The chips are nice, although there were a number of bones in the fish. Service is fast, and Newhaven fish bar offer a wide array of products to order. Large chips could be slightly larger I guess and saveloy was a bit dry compared to my usual saveloys at a chip shop in Brighton who leave them in water in the cooker. Think mine was microwaved but wasn't paying attention. Overall, the Newhaven fish bar offers good value for money and friendly staff, which is nice. I would shop here again

Great chips fabulous portions. We had good Craic with staff about differences between Scottish and English bank notes. Scottish ones obviously better, all agreed.

Visited here for my birthday treat of haggis and chips. Ordered a couple of weeks prior as not always in stock. Told time of arrival and food was ready to go. Delicious, hot, enjoyable and we will be back in October for more.
