Riverside Brasserie in Lewes

Lovely staff good food just a little pricey at £8 for soup and over £10 for jacket with filling. But great for a treat

We visited this establishment for the first time today as we squally only venture to the one downstairs but they have become too expensive. I chose eggs Benedict and a avocado smoothie , my partner had a breakfast however she said there were too many beans other than that it was nice and she also enjoyed her smoothie which was the mixed berries one. My eggs Benedict could of been a lot better the ham looked grey and pale and the eggs weren’t at all fresh as the yolks were very pale , if the establishment uses fresher ingredients I think they would do well , it was very tasty but not fresh and the smoothie was to die for it was awesome , staff were friendly and helpful.

Honestly great place to either just have a cup of tea, or to grab a bite to eat while looking over the river. And great owner and staff. Always coming back here one way or another.

Had a lovely visit to The Brasserie. Wonderful service with a smile (and a pinch of humour). Food was tasty and good portions. The atmosphere was very nice, with rays of sunshine cascading through the roof sunlights.

Lovely upstairs cafe, views of the river and shopping street. Always a good experience here, everything made fresh too. Expect to queue for a few minutes at busy times. One of my favourite haunts all year round.

Best parts of the restaurant was the atmosphere, its welcoming, very quiet with ambience of other customers around, excellent views from the seating. The food was so-so, the pancakes were small and wera quite dry despite the mass amounts of maple syrup. The service was also excellent, I would recommend this place for a drink.

After cycling from Eastbourne this was a perfect stop for some yummy food, great chat with the owner and his family. Coffee was great too😉

This place is so nice. Menú has a lot of options, from breakfast to pastries. Staff is helpful and efficient. Good portions are big and prices, very reasonables.

The food is amazing, the staff are very attentive and professional. You always get greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly wave. The ingredients are of the highest quality! Nothing is too much trouble

We had the full English and chorizo hash with orange juice and watermelon juice. The full English was awfull, cold sausage cold beans really snotty eggs flavourless mushrooms and tomato. My wife had the chorizo hash and that was worse, the really snotty eggs were sat on mush, covered in flavourless cheese, then it had this warm sliced bright red Salami (not chorizo) in the mush it was a disaster of a dish. The orange juice was orange squash, the best bit was the watermelon juice and the setting. All this for £28, not good should of gone to bills opposite

Popped in for sandwiches and coffees - friendly welcome and service. Very nice food and atmosphere - would happily recommend you give this place a try.

Absolutely outstanding service, I was served by a charming lady who catered to all of my needs as I am Gluten Free. (Their carrot cake was amazing by the way!) I was also informed a number of the cakes are home-made! How amazing is that?!?

Went there for a cheeky lunch having spent a fortune across the road and found a jewel in the town crown today. We had a lovely relaxed lunch of Cottage pie “the Special” which my wife declared very good and awfully hot. My sausages and mash were excellent and very reasonably priced. Friendly, relaxed service and lots of fun. Thank you.

My food was passable although poached eggs were hard boiled. My companion had Welsh Rarebit, what turned up was 1 tiny piece of toast with some melted cheese on it with a couple of pieces of cucumber & tomato on the side, awful - £8.50 when I complained I was told by the person on the till I just take the money it’s nothing to do with me. I asked for the manager & he came over, was quite aggressive & told me all abt his overheads & outgoings & u know what the price is as it’s stated on the menu!!! He begrudgingly took £2 off the bill. Much better cafes, it’s not a brasserie to spend your money, don’t bother here

We had lunch here while wandering around Lewes. I had sausage and mash which was excellent, just what I needed. being centrally located it is ideal for just calling in

Yesterday I had the most amazing lemon drizzle cake which was home made by one of the staff. Delicious 😋 great atmosphere, highly recommend

I've been to this café on numerous occasions. The menu is always the same. I think I've tried most things!Roast dinner always roast beef. It's a cheap option and staff are friendly. Best tables are by the window overlooking river.

We love the Brasserie and visit every Sunday for a full English breakfast. Friendly staff who remember our order, great food and excellent value. Can't praise this place enough- much better than the overpriced, pretentious Bills!

Highly recommend for a private event! We held our drinks/canapés reception at the Brasserie after getting married up the road at the registry office. I cannot express enough how happy we were with Gaz (owner) and the team and the efforts they made to make our day extra special. Especially with all of the issues of trying to plan a wedding during covid restrictions, it was a breath of fresh air that this part of planning went smoothly and they kindly went out of their way to add all of the special touches we wanted. Incredibly helpful, collaborative and easy throughout the planning process, and the service and food on the day were absolutely perfect. The atmosphere at the Riverside Brasserie itself is light and bright, and we were able to decorate, but it didn't need much as the space itself is special. Gaz and team, thanks again for all your efforts and gracious hosting - we'd recommend you to anyone. Lindsay & Andy

Had breakfast with a friend... Really not very good. Scrambled eggs were overcooked - very dry... & ungenerous toast though to be fair they were happy to bring some more. The atmosphere is uninviting. Service very friendly.

We stumbled across this fabulous place this morning - all 5 hungry adults plus 2 toddlers. We didn’t have a booking but were welcomed in nonetheless and the food and service can’t be faulted. The English breakfast was delicious - fresh, beautifully cooked and plentiful. We were even given a colouring book, pens and reading books to keep the small ones happy, and it worked! Thank you so much for a thoroughly enjoyable experience and we will definitely be coming back regularly!

I regularly visit here for breakfast. Their full English is great value for money. They have a good selection of breakfast, sandwiches, jackets and lunches. The service is always 100%. Lee is lovely. One of my regular haunts, beautifully situated overlooking the River Ouse.

We went for lunch today and each ordered Gormet Burger. Service was a little slow but acceptable. The food was well presented and hot. Sadly my burger was very gristly and rifted up on me for some hours following consumption. I guess we will visit this establishment again although next time avoid the gristle burger!

It looked, and is, light and well located, as in the photos, and the staff are nice. But the kids menu is fishfingers and beans, nuggets and beans etc from frozen (I suspect), not healthy/freshly prepared food. But my real issue was having to eat dessert with all the crockery, empty beer bottles, soup tureen, plates cluttering the table. I asked three times for them to clear so we don’t have the smells and mess cramping us during the dessert. But nothing. That is really really amateurish IMO

Eat here regularly for breakfast with a friend. Sometimes lunch. They do a lovely full english. Lovely surroundings over looking the river. Staff are very friendly and remember you each time you visit.

Decent place, nice seating area by the river

I think we went in through the back door although the sign outside did usher us up the stairs. No matter, we both had excellent light lunches, served fresh and promptly. Although the town itself was quite full there were still tables available, I can’t understand why. Well worth a visit.

Back after lockdown thankfully. The food, service and welcome are just as wonderful as ever. It really is a gem.

Good for coffee and food menu stuff.

Nice open place, even in winter. We were seated by a very pleasant friendly staff member and given a menu and told where the heater control was if we were cold. You can order at the cashier or at the table. It's a quirky place with a fish monger and sweet shop under the same roof and a shop upstairs of some sort. Good coffee and a wide range of cold drinks, including Harvey's and an excellent menu upstaging the very well known establishment just a stone's throw away make this an excellent cafe. It is a treat. Very nice people, comfy, inexpensive, unpretentious. Go.

The staff are so warm and welcoming and the food is great and very reasonably priced. A really nice atmosphere and you never feel rushed. Free coffee refills - what more could you ask for. Always our first choice for breakfast, lunch or a quick coffee.

I think what makes this place is the helpfulness of the staff. The waiter we had was very patient and understanding with my fusspot children and went out of his way to help us. The food was good and reasonably priced. Coffee was decent. My 3 year old had a kids meals that comes with an ice lolly and they gave my 8 year old a lolly on the house so he didn’t feel left out. It’s stuff like they that makes a place special. Thank you!

Lovely place to grab a delicious Brie, bacon and cranberry sandwich with creamy coleslaw on the side. Good strong tea served by a polite, friendly team. Great Covid practice in place. Been here a few times now will keep on visiting. Well done.

Service and decor were very good, and we were able to charge our phones on the ample power sockets. Unfortunately the food left a little to be desired - our sandwiches were a little soggy and the crisps served with them were soft. It seems most people come for the cooked breakfast which is served all day. Fairly good value.

Looking for a hot drink and a snack we found this gem. Highly organised as to Covid19 precautions but striking the right balance with a welcoming manner, good value and excellent service. I recommend their bacon,egg and cheese bagel!

Such a wonderful place to visit. Always greeted with a warm welcome and big smiles. It’s clean and fresh with great views of the river. Staff are so friendly and always helpful, well mannered and happy to help in any way. The food is amazing! We are never disappointed and always leave feeling very satisfied. Track and trace in place and was very reassuring seeing sanitiser used on everything when other customers left. I felt safe and will always return.

We visit the brasserie whenever possible because no Matter what it is we are visiting for - we are always made to feel welcome. If that be for a just coffee or breakfast - it’s always ok. The food is excellent and always cooked to perfection no matter what requests I have. There isn’t many (if any) places like this in lewes any more. A full traditional English breakfast is hard to find here now. Great place to stop for my lunch breaks also. Outstanding service always. Very clean and reassuring seeing staff with masks and following guidelines to ensure the safest visit here.

Stopped here for breakfast and it was absolutely perfect. Eggs Florentine was delicious. The staff were very obliging in taking my request for some minor changes. Hubby had the full English and that was of a very high quality. Overall a wonderful dinning experience, great food, staff, decor And atmosphere. Would totally recommend a visit .

Lovely welcoming staff, friendly atmosphere. The food was nice, cream tea and fry up options! You can see the river from the outside seats. Only negative I would say were toilets were a little grim. Could do with being cleaned more often. Really enjoyed our lunch here.

Auch, wenn Lewes nicht zu den Touristen-Hotspots zählt, musste der Titel gewählt werden. Entgegen vieler Bewertungen war das Personal nicht sonderlich freundlich. Die Scones zum cream tea waren nicht frisch und sehr trocken. Wir wollen zum Sandwich keine Chips, erhielten aber die Auskunft, dass der Preis jedenfalls gleich bleiben wird. Das Sandwich meiner Freundin war auch trocken und „staubte bei den Ohren raus“. Außerdem haben wir nicht mit Cheddar Käse gerechnet. Das Lokal an sich ist nett und einladend. Der Ausblick aus den Fenstern auf den „Bach“ ist auch sehr schön.

Popped in here for lunch and the service and food were excellent. Coffee was wonderful and I had Eggs Royale which were perfect. My wife had a very nice jacket potato with a delicious filling. This was a quick light lunch whilst we were shopping and it was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.

Walked past this place many times so decided to go in this time.Food is fresh, smoothies very good but the service is so slow.It's quite an interesting concept as there are craft shop areas alongside the cafe. Views from the upstairs window or the river and Harvey's Brewery quite iconic.

Stopped off here for a caffeine hit to fuel our mooch around the town. Nice place, good coffee and the food looked nice and was reasonably priced.

Ah yes, the Riverside Brasserie. Don't be fooled by the name or the setting, as we were. This is nothing more than a horrid caff. Having handed my hard-earned money over to Dick Turpin for what can only be described as the most revolting scrambled eggs I've ever tasted, I will be sure to avoid this establishment in future. Totally watery, unfathomably tasteless, and truly revolting. It's not possible to make fresh eggs taste so awful, so I can only assume they were the long-life powdered variety. The yellow, watery gunk was served with two thin slices of white supermarket bread. The bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese wasn't much better. You'd think they could have toasted it, but no. We were really looking forward to a little treat of having breakfast out, but feel like we were conned.

I have travelled extensively throughout my life and have eaten at some really awful restaurants. I have finally found the worst. I have never been served such awful food. To call themselves a brasserie is a joke. I expected a home made hamburger with chips and relish. What I got was an overdone something. A plain unheated bun. Chips and an apology of a salad. No relish. I would usually eat whatever is put in front of me. Not this!!! They informed me they do not make their own hamburgers.

Our first time in Lewes and we had a wonderful lunch here. We were able to sit outside in the sunshine, our food was delicious, I would recommend the salads! The service was good, although was slightly slow! I would definitely recommend!

Visited Lewes for the day with my girlfriend and had a great time exploring the town.

Fancied the poached eggs but hadn't noticed that service stopped at 12.30. The chef agreed to cook some but explained that there may be an extended wait. Came out perfectly with a lovely light hollandaise sauce. Went above and beyond. Also great coffee

This is a great cafe in the upstairs of a lovely building in Lewes. It has great views over the river and watching people passing by over the bridge. The food is excellent and theres a great choice from all day breakfasts, eggs benedict served all day, jacket potatoes, burgers, scampi, fish and chips, so something for everyone. On my last visit we had jacket potatoes and I had the chicken, bacon and spinach in mayo filling and it was absolutely delicious and will definitely be back to have it again. They also do the best apple danish anywhere I’ve ever been and is topped with icing and almonds and is delicious. I have to have one everytime I go Lewes. Got my Husband to try it and although it’s not his sort of cake he actually said it was delicious and knew why I go on about it so much. Its a lovely cafe and has a great feel to it and the staff are all excellent, always smiling and happy and nothing is too much trouble, Can’t wait to go back very soon. Hope it never changes.

Lovely place with great atmosphere for a causal lunch, food good and great value

This busy cafe has great views over the river from it's first floor location. The service is good and they offer a soup of the day, a daily special and a very good breakfast.

Have visited a lot over the years and another recent trip confirmed it really is a fantastic cafe! Great value , brilliant portions and amazing taste. The customer service is always wonderful. A great place to go for lunch or for tea and delicious cake.

We recently visited the brasserie for breakfast and were so glad we did! The coffee and full english breakfasts we had were delicious and it was obvious that good quality ingredients had been used. We sat by the window and had a lovely view over the river, which really made the experience. The price was very reasonable and the staff were friendly and helpful. I'd urge anyone visiting Lewes to visit this place!

We stopped by here just before taking our train and the staff were so lovely and attentive. They offer gluten and dairy-free options which was fab. The staff made our day with their jokes. Would like to come back here when we're next on holiday.

Following our massive breakfast at the hotel, we only needed a small snack for late lunch.

A cold wet day was brightened significantly by the warm welcome we got at this place. The food (all day breakfasts), the service and value were great. Lovely location for people watching on the High Street and for the riverside views. Highly recommended

A very enjoyable Sunday morning had here. A particular challenge in the kitchen was dealt with in first class manner - couldn’t fault their service and bacon with maple syrup pancakes were fantastic. Beautiful spot by the river

Only had about 3/4 of an hour for lunch before I had to be back up the road. Staff were very friendly, you can sit at the tables, you pick from a fairly good menu, I had a Jacket Potatoe with Tuna filling on top & it was lovely. Waiter service & you pay at the till on exiting. I have a small pet hate about when paying staff take your bank card off you just to hold it against their machine, that's the idea of contactless, nobody has to touch your card, but other than that all good.

Always excellent coffee served with a smile. Lovely assortment of baguettes sandwiches and cakes available. The hot soup of the day is good here too.

Called in as I often do for refreshment whilst shopping. Good for breakfast or lunch. Good choices also lots of...

On entering we stood with a number of other customers for 5 mins in no particular queue, we asked a member of staff the procedure for ordering food, was told we had to wait until we could find a spare seat ourselves (difficult to do as when busy you only have a limited view of the Café), after a further 5 mins we asked another member of staff to be told we should have ordered at the counter on arrival, and should have then taken a bottle with a numbered spoon and waited until we found a table, which were advised would be at least 15 mins. Faced with the potential of having food served up before we had found a seat (again hard to do when you cant see most of the Café from the front counter - or other people jump into the seat before you) we decided to leave and try less busy cafés away from High St and the up hill. This chaos could be avoided if either they provided a member of staff at front who could organise customers arriving (as they do in Bill's), or even the industry standard sign advising customers to queue at a certain point and wait to be seated - and provide a member of staff who can arrange that.

Took my mum for lunch mid week and booked a table in advance which was just as well as was busy. This brasserie is in the upstairs part of a building by the bridge in Lewes high street. Get a window seat and you overlook the river Ouse. Not the most beautiful part of the river as it goes through Lewes - but I liked the location. There are a few pasta dishes; a special ; all day breakfasts; sandwiches and jacket potatoes. We opted for jacket potatoes and both were large and generously filled. Service was prompt and friendly. I will return

My husband and I, having booked a lunchtime meal here, actually had difficulty in finding the restaurant. Our sat nav failed us and eventally we got to it with the aid of Google Maps. The problem is that if you follow Monkey Island Lane from Bray village, you come to a gate preventing you from going any further. You need to access Bray Marina from the other end of Monkey Island Lane, off Windsor Rd. Once we arrived, parking was easy in the marina and the Riverside is well signposted. We started with Kir Royale followed by 3 excellent courses and coffee. The food was delicious. All the staff were friendly and efficient. We ate outside on the terrace, overlooking the R. Thames and the boats going up and down it.

Had lunch in Lewes and decided on the Riverside, the food was delicious but was let down by the painfully slow service.Must improve staffing levels to improve rating!

Popped in Sunday morning and had an English breakfast, arrived quickly and was very impressed with the quality of the food. Excellent service and will return next time in Lewes. Highly recoomended.
